Hi.
I have an Xperia X10 that I gave to my husband. He's good with computers etc.. and he went ahead and unlocked and rooted this phone. It's working awesome - EXCEPT - when you plug it into the computer via USB the computer will NOT recognize it. It says exactly, " "USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctions, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message"".
Here is a bit of background info:
Before my husband rooted the phone etc. the micro usb port on the phone wasn't working properly - it was loose and you would have to really wiggle it, bend it etc.. to make the debug engage. He did get it to flash/root/unlock/install custom rom successfully ( he installed doomkernel 2.6.29-modFXP-DooMKernel-v06) all while the phones usb wasn't working ideally. At this point he was trying out some settings and branded it as a X10i Generic. (This phone WAS a Rogers phone and we are in Canada). He then wanted to change the branding since x10i wasn't working too great. At this point the USB port on the phone wouldn't engage into debug or charge anymore so we took it to a repair place and they soldered the usb port back - they told us this was common (them coming loose). After they soldered it they said it wouldn't go into debug and that it was because (probably) of the firmware my husband put on but didn't really know.
From that day on this phone has never connected to the computer successfully - the computer won't even recognize it as a memory card - as soon as you plug it in it tries to install drivers and then the computer says exactly this::
"USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctions, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message"
Our computer is running Windows 7 (64bit) - and the phone use to work fine.
We have tried using SDK tool, installing drivers manually when the phone is plugged in, but the computer will just say that it is already up to date, and it names the phone ' UNKNOWN DEVICE" and has the exclamation box next to it indicating it's malfunctioned. Sony software (PC Comp. etc) also will not detect the phone.
Have been trying to get this working for about 2 months now. 2 months of reading, google searches, more reading, trying idea after idea, and it doesn't work.
Has this happened to anyone else? Can someone help out here? Is this a firmware/software problem (maybe because it's been branded as a x10i)? Or could this all be a matter of the USB port being improperly fixed?
Facing same USB malfunctioned issue
I am facing the same issue since quite long since i have rooted my Samsung Galaxy 2 SGH T-989. My phone gets connected properly but when i try to transfer any of the files from computer to my phone. It gets disconnected automatically after copying the stuff till 5% to 10% and shows ''USB device has malfunctioned".
I am also trying to search and rectify this issue, but till now i have found nothing. Please let me know if you come across of kind of solution for it.
Im sometimes facing the that unrecognized USB but, everthing working.
Sent from my X10 using xda app-developers app
I faced the exact same problem with my x10 mini. It wouldn't charge properly nor connect to my PC. I would have to wiggle the micro USB port and cable to get it working, which actually got me wondering if the problem was really the USB port. After I've bought a male-male USB to micro USB cable everything worked fine. Same thing happened with a brand new x10. I tried to use the USB cable I bought instead of the original one which came with the phone and you wouldn't guess, everything works fine.
So try to connect it with another USB - micro USB cable.

We have already tried connecting it to all of the (10) usb ports on our computer and we have tried NUMEROUS cables ( between my husband and I we have probably 8 cables, and have tired them all)

tried cleaning the micro usb port, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers in Pcs but it didnt work.
I switched off my phone, removed mem card, reinserted it, swithced it on again, connected my phone to PC(in sleep mode)
phone is detected as storage device and got notification in notification panel to select as charge only/files mode/ photos mode.
After ejecting and removing cable again back to issue. No detection. OTG also not detected. No Data transfers are being made but its only charging( even through Car USB port)
Anybody facing USB not recognised problem ? i hope its software related.
could anyone let me know of solution.
Thanks.
I am also facing the same issue
I thought I was alone in this issue.
Basically, my problem is, the wall charging and USB connect are reversed. i.e., I connect my wall charger, its showing as USB mode and when I connect the cable to a PC, its showing as AC Charging. I tested with Ampere app and when I connect to AC Charger, it is drawing only around 300mA(like it would do if connected to USB) and its drawing around 1.5A(like it would do when connected to wall charger) when connected to USB PC.
I have been having this issue for quite sometime and recently, I had upgraded to Marshmallow through OTA upgrade. I thought atleast this upgrade would fix this issue but I am still facing the same issue. I even contacted the customer care and nothing useful advice other than restoring to factory settings was suggested(which I tried and didn't work).
I guess it should be some software issue but don't know what it is or how to fix it. Any inputs would be welcome.
Connected by USB cable, my A3 is not recognized by my laptop. The laptop shows "unrecognizable device" on that USB port. So the phone can't be charged by the laptop and no file/data transfer is possible. I found this yesterday. It was all fine before.
Would it be the problem on my phone (by the recent OTA update)? Or the laptop? Which is managed by the company with some restrictions by policy which is changing over time...
Yesterday I had my Mi 11 Lite delivered. After setting up the SIM card and so on, I tried to connect it to my Windows PC to copy the photographs that didn't migrate during the device transfer procedure.
Plugged it into the PC, it failed to appear in file manager. It started to charge, but wouldn't connect otherwise. Tried all the usual of setting the default USB, turning on USB debugging, nothing. Tried various different USB sockets, USB hub, nothing. Getting very frustrated, I was thinking I would return it for a refund. By this time it had downloaded an update and requested a restart. As it restarted, it was plugged into a USB port and once I unlocked it, hurrah! It connected. I then copied over the pictures. Happy days.
A little later I re-connected it to the PC and again, nothing. I installed the Xiaomi connection suite and it complained that there was no device connected. Eventually I installed Smartisan's wonderful Handshaker which creates a WiFi connection and copied over some files using it. I was still annoyed though. This morning I thought I would try connecting using my Laptop. No connection there either. I tried a USB OTG flash drive, it wouldn't work. Thinking I really would have to return the 'phone, I rebooted it. When it restarted, I plugged the USB OTG drive in and this time it appeared. Plugged the 'phone into the PC, nothing. Plugged the OTG drive back in, nothing again. Rebooted it once more, USB OTG worked. Thinking I was starting to go crazy, a thought suddenly struck me.
When I had plugged it into the PC the very first time, I had plugged it into a USB-C port on the PC. When it restarted, it was plugged into a USB-A socket as that was the last port I had tried. As the USB-A port had worked, I had then tried the USB-C port, which didn't work and after that nothing connected to the 'phone worked.
My PC is a Lenovo all in one which should allow use of the screen and keyboard to be shared with a mobile device when plugged into the PC's USB-C port. My guess is that the PC is trying to connect to the Mi 11 Lite, offering to share the screen and keyboard which then confuses the 'phone and blocks all access to the USB on the 'phone until it is rebooted. Since I have avoided using the USB-C port on the Lenovo PC to connect to the 'phone, it has worked perfectly well.
Steps to try if your 'phone won't connect to the PC:
Unplug all cables from the 'phone and reboot it.
Make sure that the USB-C cable is removed from the PC.
Plug a USB-A to USB-C cable into a USB-A port on the PC.
When the 'phone has restarted, unlock it.
Plug the USB-C end of the cable into the 'phone.
I should add that I have been using the USB-C port on the Lenovo for all my other 'phones, including a Mi Mix 2S, TCL 10, Carbon Mobile and a Teclast Tablet and all have been fine. Only the Mi 11 Lite has not worked as expected.
I hope this helps someone. It may just be something that is specific only to the Lenovo PC and the Mi 11 Lite 5G combination, but it has had me baffled for hours!
I have the same problem, I would try your solution but my Asus laptop doesn't have a USB-A but only 2 USB-C ports and no way it connects. It works ok with my pc which has an USB-A port.
So I think there's no solution for me?
Also I have another
I have an issue with Bluetooth, it doesn't automatically connect to paired devices like my car (most importantly), speaker or laptop. First I thought it was the car but since it doesn't auto connect to other devices it must be the phone(s)
I have searched for a solution on Internet but couldn't find a fix. BTW same problem on my Poco F2 pro and Oppo X2pro. All are global rom.
Has anyone a solution for this problem?
I have tried repeatedly to connect my phone to my PC (Windows 11) without any luck. Normally I would expect that just connecting the USB cable would be enough but no (I have 2 identical phones). I can connect through bluetooth and transfer files without issue. I have installed this driver as I thought being a new phone it may need a new driver still no luck. I tested the cable on my old LG phone and I can connect and transfer, I also tested the cable that came with the phone. The phone is the Chinese model with that MIUI. The phone does nothing except recharge when connected and it does not appear in windows. I have enabled USB debugging. Anyone have any idea what the problem is?
After repeating the whole exercise it appears I may have had a faulty USB A to USB C converter connected to my PC (newish case). Works sometimes, sometimes not. Using a USB A at the back of the PC now faithfully connects and solves the problem.
