Strange Bootloader/message after device repaired - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

Hi all
I recently had my TP sent in for repair for a defective lcd and navi panel, whilst testing they also found it necessary to replace the mainboard aswell.
After booting into teh bootloader the screen has the following information on it:
Raph100
SPL-5.05.000
MicroP-Raph (LED) v13
MicroP-Raph (KEY) v5
PSOC-Raph STAGE_CVT v0x36
PCBID 0x80
RID 0x0
I cant see any mention of the ipl version!
before i had it repaired, the bootloader would say
IPL-1.90.0000
or something along those lines
does anyone know why this is? also, would it be safe for me to flash the hardspl?
many thanks

Not strange. Do you by chance have a nbh file on the SD Card?
Or it may have bee security unlocked for the repairs & left that way.

Hi there
No NBH files on the SD card,
I was just a little wary of flashing anything to it and then it just messing up!
if you could tell me how to make a dump of the rom i'd be happy to upload it somewhere for you if its any good to you
i originally got wm6 for the htc tornado, so im a little familiar but thats with the old process!
cheers

come on, someone must have an idea?!

just do a search on how to dump your flash..
hopefully there's some interesting stuff on there
ie. new, improved and updated drivers

HTC just released rom updates, so Why a dump?
BTW, Mine always has that Data. I think you are confussing this with the Tornado. The HTC devices have NOT shown you any "IPL" info in a long time. Welcome to 2009. Only SPL info is shown in the BL screen. 100% positive.
BTW, Is this CDMA or GSM device? Don't flash anything until you unlock it & use the Olinex unlocker. You CANNOT unlok or flash with JumpSPL like the old days, so forget most of what you knew & start reading.

its a GSM HTC Touch Pro
previously, all i did was flash the hardspl and flash away, didnt bother with unlocking or anything as the device is already sim unlocked

Yes, but if u want to change radios ever, you need to be unlocked. Not sim-unlocked, security unlocked.
This is way different than a tornado.

Yes, but if u want to change radios ever, you need to be unlocked.
This is way different than a tornado & you've never seen anything about IPL on it & never will, garanteed.

My good man, I've been using the Raphael since october 2008 and have flashed many radios/roms
i understand the handset needs to be security unlocked should i want to flash a radio from a different device (experia/diamond/hd etc)
was just wanting to make sure htc didnt accidently send me something weird which might screw up should i attempt to hardspl
many thanks for your input

i was gonna unlock my 8525 via pof's unlocker and downgrade solution when i read this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1062526&postcount=7 I then figured it wouldnt hurt to just called cingular and see if they would give me the unlock code...i placed a call to cingular's international department and get them to send me the unlock code in less then 12 hours by telling them i was planning to go on a trip out of the country on sunday and what is the soonest i could get the code..i then acted like i didnt know anything about getting a phone unlocked and he recommended that i place international roaming on my phone yada yada yada..... i declined and asked if i would still be able to roam while out of the country.. he said yes... i said thats fine.. but i would also like to have the phone unlocked incase i would like to buy a sim and use it for making local calls in the country that i will be in.. he said sure no problem... he submitted a request and in less then 12 hours i had the unlock code in my mailbox... i hope this helps anyone on cingular trying to unlock there phone with no modding...
now the second part of this thread is relating to the bootloader versions.. now i know that my bootloader is 1.6.. is it necessary for me to still use pof's method in combination with the downgrade in order to supercid unlock my phone in order to flash the rom with different hermes roms even tho' my phones sim is unlocked....is it possible to use pof's file to supercid unlock and then reflash back the same radio with no patch and same cingular rom to have the phone back to fully stock out of the box with the exception of having it be fully unlocked with the sim and sid..... also.. .is the same necessary for flashing the radio with different versions??..from what i understand you can "unhind the ext roms to see them but not activate themm.. and in order to use the features in the extended roms do i need to be supercid unlocked in order to unlock the ext.roms??i have fit4cat tweaker installed already and it makes the changes making me feel like i am accessing the ext.rom features already... and if so when i cid unlock my phone can i just pick and chose the .cabs to install from the different options on the different roms... .. i am not in an area that supports Edge .. but when i am will it display so on my screen with a E? or is that a mod i will need to do as well.. and i also see a feature in fit4cat that enables hsdpa.. i thought my phone would default using the connectin if it was available.. am i wrong.. and the ptt hack that someone on this forum created as a .cabs.. do i need to have it supercid ulocked to use that as well...
im sorry if alot of you have answered these questions time and time again.. i have really tried to answer my own questions for the last 8 hours or so with reading the forums and wiki's.. after a while it becomes a blur...
Ps. when using mtty.exe and i hook it up following exact settings and instructions when it connects it says CLIENTCLIENT then i hit the I to type info and i get CLIENT again.. no prompt.. ??help<< i was not in bootloader mode...oops.. it worked fine after i placed it in bootloader mode
thanks in advance

Yes, you need to patch the radio to CID-Unlock. It doesn't matter if the phone is SIM-Locked or not. This needs bootloader 1.04, you can have it by flashing cingular's 1.30 rom.

is it possible to use pof's file to supercid unlock and then reflash back the same radio with no patch and same cingular rom to have the phone back to fully stock out of the box with the exception of having it be fully unlocked with the sim and sid..... also.. .is the same necessary for flashing the radio with different versions??

Yes, it is possible but you need to downgrade your bootloader to 1.04 for this, otherwise you won't be able to flash any radio (patched or not).

You need to have a SuperCID phone in order to UNLOCK the extrom, this means WRITE to it (i.e. delete cab files you don't need and use it as storage space, or put signed cab files from other ExtROM). If your Hermes is not SuperCID you'll be able to unhide it, but will not be able to unlock it.

i am not in an area that supports Edge .. but when i am will it display so on my screen with a E? or is that a mod i will need to do as well..

It will not display "E", and the previous hack used in HTC Wizard for this doesn't work on Hermes. It displays "G" if you are under GPRS or EDGE coverage and "U" or "3G" if you are under UMTS/3G or HSDPA coverage.

and i also see a feature in fit4cat that enables hsdpa.. i thought my phone would default using the connectin if it was available.. am i wrong..

Cingular ROMs have HSDPA enabled by default, you don't need to use that option from fit4cat hermes tweaker (it won't hurt if you do it), but it is there because not all roms have HSDPA enabled by default.

ALL I answered is in the wiki, but probably explained in a bad way because I am not english native speaker, I would be very glad if you EDIT the wiki and explain it better/clearer than it is, so other people like you can understand it next time they read.
one more question... if i flash back to the cingular rom that is a 1.6 bootloader after i have done this whole process am i still able to flash to whatever i want providing that i have flashed from 1.6 to 1.4 unlocked sim and supercid previously.. basically does this flash the cidlock back on it.. or must i keep the bootloader in 1.4 in order to keep flashing roms
On another note.. i read these forums all night for the first time and i want to tell you Pof that you are the most helpful person i have ever come across on ANY forum board and the xda members are lucky to have you here... also extremely intelligent... thanks
extremely grateful
Abe
The main reason to SuperCID your Hermes is to be able to flash "whatever" rom you like, without having to bother with bootloader versions. If you use SIM & CID unlocker v2a to make your Hermes SuperCID it will be SuperCID forever, so the CID lock will not be back anymore.
Basically, after your device is SuperCID you only need to go back to bootloader 1.04 if you want to be able to flash extracted radio-upgrade only, as this is not possible with other bootloader versions.
is the patch u put in the radio overwritten when i apply a new rom???
the radio file is included in the rom you flash right?
or you can just find the radio file and flash that alone??
does the radio flash require it to be hooked via active synch or dissable
i have gotten Error 120 country id error twice now trying to flash ur radio flash.. any advice?
i should be outa noob questions shortly..
thank you again
if all goes well(im in the process of this whole precedure as i type...30% now) i shall write this in the wiki in n00b language...

It doesn't really matter, as the RUU will kill activesync anyway, but I always recommend to disable activesync and start the update from bootloader mode (tri-color screen).

Hey abe,
thanks for the tip on getting my phone unlocked...It worked like a charm.

FUNDAMENTAL requirement before trying a WM6 upgrade

I have been reading all across the forums how to CID unlock, upgrade etc. However, I am not able to find the ways to do seeminly essential homework before trying to upgrade. These for me are:-
* Finding a way to completely backup all the stuff from original tytn. Like ROM, SPL, IPL, Radio, CIDlock etc. I feel that this is important as if ever I feel like going to the tried old one I should be able to and to preserve the warranty also. Also, the method to roll back if needed. This should be covering re CID locking the phone etc.
It makes sense to create a way to bring the phone to its completlely original shape if we need it
Thanks
Alber

You do not need to back up your spl, ipl, etc. because if you need to roll back you can just reflash them on, and they can be found around here and in the wiki.
You cannot un-CIDunlock, but if you use hardspl v7 it will "trick" your phone into thinking it is (when in reality it isnt) so that you do not have to actually unlock it. If you ever need to send it in you can just flash the old spl over it.

HardSPL does not CID unlock. pof's Free Unlocker (a sticky thread) does the SIM and CID unlocking. HardSPL is a new set of bootloaders allowing upgrade utilities to access and read/write to the phone. The most important aspect of this (besides bypassing the CID check) is the security - it has some overwrite protection built in to prevent you from accidentally corrupting the bootloader area, rendering your phone a brick. HardSPL is a safety measure.
If you check THE WIKI here on xda for the Hermes, you will find some stuff on extracting. It is most probable that it will be FAR easier to find new versions of everything you have, rather than trying to back up and restore. The wiki contains MANY shipped ROMs to allow you to restore back to basically the original condition. LOOK HERE for MW5 shipped ROMs and LOOK HERE for WM6 shipped ROMs.

what about the radio upgrade
the htc108 thing
its confusing
on pof's sticky it says to downgrade the radio if u have the htc 108..
but on the radio upgrade sticky, it says u can upgrade any phone[hermes] using custom ruu..

Thanks a lot for the reply, I appreciate the time you spent in expaining this to me and providing these links.
I was wondering if HARDSPL is like shelltool where it will only allow upgrade or flashing of OS part. So, once I use the HARDSPL and flash say HTC official WM6 release or Dopod WM6, will I be ableto to get the bundled radio and SPL and IPL upgrades from these ROMS? and if yes then will HARDSPL get replaced by these SPLs and IPLs built into the ROMS? One more thing, will an upgrade like that can brick the phone as if I rum the official ROM it will try to upgrade the SPL and IPL (I am not sure).
What is the preferred way of upgrading ? unlocking CID by the tool or HARDSPL ?
I have read somewhere that lockwiz tool used for Wizard can save CID also and some tool and put it back also but I dont know how and if the same tool can do it for hermes?

Alber

Most cooked roms are os only, but a few have a radio, etc. included. If its os only, flashing will only change the os. You can separately flash radio.
Hardspl is the best because its reversible. Well thats not the best word to describe it....id say because its not permanent. But u know what i mean

Mcorrie1121 is right. I will add a couple of things.
1. HardSPL is not *necessary* for flashing anything, it only makes it safer and allows you to flash ROMs with CIDs that do not match your device without CID unlocking. Your ROM is basically a few parts - OS, Radio, IPL, SPL, ExtROM, MainSplash and SubSplash. The HardSPL will replace the SPL only. Most non-carrier ROM releases are OS only. Most carrier ROMs (as you pointed out) have ALL of these things. As Mcorrie1121 pointed out, you can easily find a radio - check the wiki, search, etc.
2. Once you have upgraded to a cooked ROM (and HardSPL), you will still be able to upgrade to a Shipped Official ROM. You may need to "unpack" it and use the CustomRUU instead of the shipped updater. That is OK though.
3. HardSPL will not allow overwriting of the IPL/SPL except by another HardSPL (see mrvanx.org downgrade guides). You will not have a problem. It will keep your bootloader zone safe.
4. I don't think there is a preferred way. Some people unlock CID, others do not. There is no reason to *not* unlock it, unless you plan to send it back - and I have never heard of someone getting service rejected for this reason. Wring ROM, yes. CID unlocked, no. That said, maybe try without CID unlocking first and then if you find you need to do it for some reason, then do it. You really do not have to do it, since the Custom Updater bypasses the CID check anyway.
5. Regarding the 0108 Radio BL issue, don't worry much about that - it is an old problem. Just don't go below whatever version you have now.

Dear, please help me with one thing-I am terribly confused about the procedure to upgrade my JASJAM to WM6. I understand that one way is to CIS unlock it and install on it the official and dopod releases of WM6. I wanted to know how can I do the same using the HARDspl. I know that I can install the HARDSPL but after that what ??? Can I then run the offcial RUU from HTC or Dopod or I am supposed to do it some other way as I am afraid that it may contain the SPL and IPL and can break by phone OR I have to use some customRUU (I dont know) OR I am supposed to extract the OS from these official releases (I dont know how) OR ..
Can you please clear these confusion??
I have:-
* I-Mate JASJAM, CID locked i suppose as when I run official HTC or dopod it says this update utility is not for this
*I really wanted to save my devices complete state and a way to revert it to the way it was like SPL, IPL, OS, Radio, CID lock etc.

There are upgrade guides there and guides to put it back the way it was (OS, Radio, IPL, SPL, MainSplash and SubSplash) - it is all covered.
The upgrade guides will get you through the upgrade process. The only thing you need to do after that to use an official upgrade is to unrar (using winrar or something) the executable file and take the nbh and us it with the CustomRUU, which can be found HERE .

Idea for permanently CID unlocking G4?

I was just thinking about the whole IMEI-CHECK website... Is there any way to build a program that based on IMEI, can generate the unlock file for the program used by IMEI-CHECK?
Here is the G4 WIZARD unlock program provided on their website for people to take apart and disect to see if you can figure out how to make a program to generate the unlock file based on IMEI.
I know warez are frowned on here and this is why I only posted the program which can be downloaded here but technically the program is freeware, it's the unlocking service that isn't free and thats what we're trying to fix.
well i guess if it was so easy, people would do it before .
right now i'm flashing with Softspl , and no problems - i'm happy with it ! .
Yes I was using SoftSPL for a few days but since then I got a handset exchange and was gifted with a G3 which got CID unlocked as soon as I put my battery in it.
I am just thinking about it because I used to have a G4 and SoftSPL is simple and almost the exact same thing as stand alone RUU, it even calls the RUU when it is time so it is even the same number of clicks but it just isn't the same thing... I don't have to worry about any of it at all. I can flash happy from one custom rom to the next and never even think twice(is this gonna mess up my phone?) I just don't even have to think about it since even my IPL/SPL can be changed. All available roms are now safe for me to just run the Ruu and be good to go.
I think that is why it would be nice to see a way to permanantly CID unlock so that you COULD change the IPL/SPL and not have to worry about permanently bricking your phone if you accidently flash a rom with the wrong IPL/SPL.
I'm sure you can see where I'm coming from too...
No...
Even with a CID-unlocked G4 (By IMEI-check), flashing a G3 RUU still bricks the device, so it is not related to unlocked or not, it is a matter of G3 or G4 IPL/SPL.
What CID-unlocking in G4 gives is completely the same with SSPL.
Hard SPL for G4 already exists
Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332320
With this 2.21.olipro SPL the fix is permanent (until another SPL is flashed over)

I have just downloaded and run this file with my phone attached to my computer and Activesync 4.5 running etc ->
RUU_Hermes_DOPODASIA_WWE_3.54.707.3_6275_1.47.00.10_108_Ship.exe
It went ok to the point where it said Invalid Operator ID or something similar, in other words, silly old Orange have stopped the upgrade from going through somehow. What are my options now? I'm guessing its still possible to upgrade (although i don't know how, as i'm very novice at upgrading phones!)
please let me know what i can do now.
hi i have a a orange spv m3100 and recently put on a wm6 rom upgrade found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320829
i did put hard spl v7 on before i upgraded to this. it all worked fine and i was not stopped by orange as it lets you put roms on that are not the same CID as your device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
hard spl v7 is on this page and once that is on your hermes the rom should go on easily
ok will look into that, thank you.
a friend at work suggested using the Black firmware, would that be advisable? he has had success with it.

The reason you get an invalid vendor ID is because you havent put HardSPL on, and your CID doesnt match that of a dopod device (see the filename). CID is something you NEED to know about before flashing stuff dude, the more reading you do the better you will understand the device and the flash process. These devices are shipped with a CID which restricts them to use only ROMs intended for them....so your device will only flash Orange ROMs in its current state.
ok i have got as far as flashing the Pro Black 3.0.1 rom, it went well, only thing was, the phone was still locked after the upgrade, so i just ran the v3a unlocker on it, and it has now been unlocked.
my question now is why did it change the radio? what radio is best for the SPV M3100?
I should mention i am in the UK.
What was the radio before? Check what your friend has as this may be the best. Don't go for the latest update and Make sure you use the sd card method to flash (less things go wrong as it is dependant on the sd card inserted in your phone and your battery being charged, NOT on a flaky usb cable and pc that can be pulled out or reset/turned off). This is the riskiest part to flash making almost 100% permanent bricks if there is a problem.
My advice, use the one that your friend is using (if he knows anything about flashing he probably is a ppc flashing junkie like just about everyone else here) and use the sd card method.
As a footnote, radio roms are carrier specific - your carrier decides what is the best radio rom and using the wrong one means call dropouts and/or severe battery drainage or you.
Cheers...

very foolishly, before flashing the phone with the unlocker, i didnt check the radio ROM. (though i have a feeling it was around the 1.38-1.48 mark)
i'm on Vodafone though. Isn't there one standard radio (to rule them all) that most of us in the UK can get away with?
edit: im looking at the HTC Official Europe WM6 rom that comes with the built-in 1.48 radio, it would make sense that they know what the best radio is, since they make the phones...

after much reading of the threads on this forum, its starting to make sense.
one thing i still am not sure about is SSPL.
Should booting into the SSPL bootloader allow me to flash *any* rom, cos thats what this thread is claiming -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293651
but when i just now tried starting the SSPL-HERM.exe and then running the HTC WM6 firmware that i found through a bit of guesswork, it still got to the same Invalid Vender (sic) ID part!
Am i using the SSPL-HERM file the right way?
about the radio i am using vodafone as i unlocked my spv i have 1.47.30.10 found on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326995
this is working well for me at the moment.
as for your question about flashing the roms i use the hard spl v7 which i flashed the offical htc rom with i then used this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
to unlock my phone and super cid it i have since flashed black satin and schap's wm6 pro 4.31 and both went on fine
gd luck ask if ur not sure about any of this
Flash Hard SPL back on as it has been downgraded to 1.10 olipro instead of 2.10 olipro. This is for safeties sake.
You don't need to use sspl to flash os's from the sd card IF you have SPL 2.10 olipro installed. Just rename the .nbh file (on sd card) to hermimg.nbh and reboot into bootloader with sd card inserted. Too easy..

Newbie needs help with updating T-Mobile MDA Touch plus (aka HTC Touch Dual)

Hi @ all,
after reading many and many threads here in this forum (and even others) I thought I gathered enough information for starting with update my T-Mobile MDA. The original image shows the following versions:
ROM-Version: 1.35.111.13
ROM-Date: 03/14/08
Radio-Version: 1.58.21.24
Protocol-Version: 25.65.30.04H
I saw that HTC offers an official WM6.1 build for this device and since I'm running WM6.0 with many obvious bugs (and slowlyness) I decided it can't get worst.
Fortunately I found the download-link here in this forum for the official WM6.1 Professional build in german, because HTC denies access telling me that this build can't be installed on a foreign (OEM) device. After downloading the image from the link I've found here I started the updater. But even this updater refused attempts telling me that the VendorID is wrong.
As stated before I read and read and read before trying the update - but it went wrong finally. By using uSSPL 1.16 I started the update process with the original HTC updater. Everything went fine until 15% then the updater again quotes that my device has a wrong VendorID. From that moment on I saw only the rainbowscreen telling me the following:
(Top right corner: RUUNBH)
NIKI200
SPL-1.18.0000
CPLD-4
I assume that the SPL on my device is guilty of deciding which firmware to install. Luckily I found a way of still booting my device using MTTY 1.42 and sending "boot" as command. Then it booted - but I have to do that right now every time I boot up the device - it doesn't bootup by itself :-(
Here's my first question: How can I achieve that the device boots up completely and automatically again without sending a "boot" command?
I certainly still want to upgrade to ANY better OS than the current one - it just sucks! So, here're my further questions and I know there are many, many threads here and I think that read all of them according to this, but I'm still confused:
Q: What do I need as prequisites for updating this T-Mobile branded device with the official HTC Image? I'm sure SPL 1.15 and 1.16 are "too old"(??) for dealing with this brand new release firmware, right? Maybe that was the cause why the update failed.
Q: Is it necessary to install a hardSPL before starting the update? I would prefer NOT to modify the hardSPL because if I brick the device totally, I lose warranty - I just want to prevent that! If anyone tells me here, that there's really no risk of flashing hardSPL and that this certainly will work (due to his/her own experience) then I sure would proceed. BTW: I'm a newbie to this forum here and by dealing with consumer PDAs and flashing them in general, but I'm working for a company who's manufacturing such devices for the industry in rugged environments as technical supporter/consultant therefore the basics an beyonds are clear to me - only this specific field is new.
Final question: According to my questions above, a structured list (Step-By-Step) of what is necessary to do to "convince" this T-Mobile device of loading foreign Firmware is highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your support!
Reingucker
If you can actually get in with the boot command from mtty you're in luck.
If you're getting the vendor ID error then you'll need to unlock the device (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395945)
You don't need to install a hard spl, once you're unlocked and booted copy over the sspl file from the spl thread to your device (the device itself and not the SD) then take out your SD and run the sspl
This will then reboot the phone to bootloader and allow the rom to be flashed without a hard spl. As the new rom comes with spl 1.22 this will be installed.
WOW - thanks very much for this fast response!!
I've read the article of the link you quoted. There it is said, that I have to flash hardSPL 1.15 before proceeding. So I guess, there's no way around of modifying the device in such a manor that it would be noticed in cases of warranty repair, right?
Cheers,
Frank
hardSPL is an advisable safeguard while flashing but you can always revert to a stock SPL afterwards if you need to.
If you went to SPL 1.22 you'd need to do that anyway if you needed to return the device as T-mobile don't have a rom with that spl yet.
Dear randomelements,
THANKS VERY MUCH for your fast response and help!
FINALLY I DID IT!!!
BUT :-D one question left:
Now I've flashed the official HTC Image with WM6.1.
Is there any way of getting the T-Mobile splash screen back onto
the device? I've found the splash-screen flasher, but do you know
where to get the T-Mobile splash-image?
Thanks again very much,
Reingucker
There are some t-mob roms around for download (links are somewhere in the forum)
Using the nbh tools the splash screens can be extracted from that and repackaged.
I'll have a look when I get home tonight.
OK, great - thanks!
In the meanwhile I'm searching around for this as well. If I'm faster I'll let you know.
Since my device is "still" on hardSPL 1.15, would you recommend to upgrade to 1.22 or is that not necessary - or, better to say, what would be the advantage resp. the disadvantage?
Cheers,
Frank

I have 1.22 for two days now an it is so fast. I think there are no disadvantages

It's usually better to have a later SPL and everyone is saying that 1.22 makes the device run smoother.
Liquid Silver has created a 1.22 HardSPL so you might like to give that a try - I've been using it without issues:

*** Request Completed ***
OK guys, especially randomelements,
I'm through! I did everything I wanted to do... Time to setup the device aknew.
Thank you very, very much!!
Hope the device works more stable now.
Have a great day!

Grrrrr.....
Okay, one more thing....
I tried to replace the "animated.gif" in the /windows directory.
But the file is a system file and I always get an error message
that this operation isn't allowed.
How can I replace this?
Thanks in advance,
Reingucker
You can replace it with Resco Explorer or Total Commander, because these File Explorers can overwrite system files!
*** Request Now Really Completed ***
OK, thanks for the hint....
I achieved it by changing the registry entry that links to the file...
However... learning that these two apps can do that helps certainly...
Thanks again and....
GOOD BYE for today!!
Cheers,

You wrote you need an update from WM6.0 to WM6.1,
i think you are a german user, so if you want a original WM6.1 from T-Mobile try this <<link>>
Its the T-Mobile Update to WM6.1 including the start splash screen
