I know there is a wiki and that's why I'm asking... I have this now:
herm100
ipl-1.01
herm100 spl-1.06+
That's on the bootloader screen, and I just did a hard reset. I've been using the default sh*t since it came out and have had so many problems. I want to upgrade to WM6 but I want to make sure it is as safe as possible. What should I do? Like what order? I saw some downgrade and stuff and I don't know.
I tried to upgrade to Hard-SPL-V7 like 100x with the Advanced Connection in PPC on & off. No matter what, I get the Error 260 ( my PPC says the bootloader is trying to run, I say Yes, allow it to run, and then it just disconnects from PC. happens even when I am unresponsive and don't click Yes )
I want to end up with a WM6 that won't eat battery, and will just load fast.
After you give me that advice... I had like 40+ applications before and I did so much to my 8525 to make it awesome and now it's all gone. So can you give me hints to this:
-Application to x out of programs
-How to make it stop shutting off every certain amount of minutes
-How to make it not freeze as often
-Any other hints.
Thanks in advance.
hi, i was haveing error 260 for the last few days
i changed my usb lead and the problem went away
i spoke to someone (cmonex) who said its a problem between pc and phone, try a different pc, but i found changing the cable worked fine
you could also try the thread where they update from the phone memory card, altho it never worked for me (tbh i havent tried it since ive changed my cable)
hope this helps, it might not but i did have same error code
Still the same error...
I'm using the default ROM now and I want to try out WM6 and first try the Hard SPL so it'll be safer. Any other advice guys?
Anybody? I really want to upgrade I've used this same ROM with the same errors for so long now =/
I have found im also getting this problem. earlier I updated to the latest radio software and that went ok and works fine. Now I cant update to anything.
First thing, I take it your Activesync is running fine... what version are you using. 4.5?
To it put as simply as possible. Get HardSPL on your phone some how.
Then stick on which ever ROM you want... Schaps 4.01 seems to be quite popular right now though he is working on a new one with some nice features so you may or may not want to wait.
I strongly advise people to use the MicroSD way of flashing as it's much safer. Many people don't have stable usb connections (and don't know it) which is why they end up bricking their phone. Even if you have HardSPL it's less hassle not to brick it in the first place.
Lastly, you have to search and read (and occasional ask), which is how most people here get their phone working the way they want.
Hey,
Like Wam7 says get Hard SPL on there...Here's a few ideas that worked for me. Please forgive any errors or omissions. Others may have better advice for you as well..
With an error 260, I believe you must first deal with your USB connection issues, ie: make sure you can remain connected properly to effect an upgrade on the bootloader level.
WIN XP: If your running AS 4.5 and getting a 260 error, try connecting to AS 1st, let it sync do all of its work...When the phone is chilled out, then start your wrapper for HARD SPL..There are some more ideas for AS here:
http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/667087/ActiveSync+and+Rom+8525?t=anon
VISTA: the native WMDC drivers for the HTC hermes aren't compatible when our phones go into bootloader..(That's why you hear 2 distinct "Disconnect/Reconnect" sounds when you go into bootloader)..Use Mr. Vanx's guide to force the connection. It can be found here: MR. VANX'S VISTA GUIDE
After you can connect and get Hard SPL loaded, 90% of your worries may be gone..You can still brick your phone but there's some safety built in.
Another good piece of advice I recieved was to flash your carrier's standard ROM and try it 1st..you may like it...If you don't then see if anyone has cooked a carrier specific ROM you may use...There are a couple of really good At&t specific ROMs: VP3G has a great one..Just try some out to see what you like. Thats the only way to get the ROM you are happy with.
Once you have a rom flashed, somebody told me to do a hard reset before configuring and customizing your rom...Maybe it seems to burn it in..Don't know..
I shut EVERYTHING down when I flash, programs, antivirus, software firewall, anything running in taskbar, SearchIndexer, I even disable my internet connection..I even throw my cat out of the room..15 minutes, its over and evrything can go back to normal..
Good luck..
Thanks for all your replies.. but this one, jesus christ. Dude, literally after I read this I followed the steps, and in 10 minutes I have Hard SPL AND the Scaps ROM there. Your advice is f*cking Godly, everybody who has my error... FOLLOW IT! His advice literally 101% solved my problems! Thanks so much bro!

Error [302] - updating to WM6 on a 8525
I'm trying to upgrade to WM6 and gets to 64% of the update and I get this Error [302].
Herm100
IPL-1.04
SPL-2.10.olipro
R 1.54.07.00
G 32.86u7020.23H
D 3.62
Anyone with this same problem????
Obviously I'm a n00b I just got my 8525 yesterday, right away I upgraded to WM6 went all day today with it working fine, I installed a PockMSN and Windows Live anyways to keep it short I FIGURED I WOULD just RE-INSTALL Windows Mobile 6 to get a fresh phone (didnt know hard reset did the same) Actually it was the 3rd time I flashed the OS and RE-UPGRADED to WM6 to get a fresh phone!!!!
~heres the trouble~
In the middle of the reinstalling WM6 I accidentally reset my computer, didnt realize it right away and, got ERROR 260 I believe, anyways I followed the directions, took out the battery and reset, plugged the USB back and RAN the Offical WM6 Rom of HTC site again and it keeps getting stuck EVERYTIME at 11%, I have tried it like 10 times and it gets stuck at 11%, and I get the same ERROR. Says Communication error 260. I have tried everything I know reset the computer, changed USB cords, and Nothing, everytime it gets stuck at 11%!!!!!!
Any Ideas about how to get my 2 day old Hermes back??
(I know i did a n00bish thing and I am sorry)
same place everytime!!
I tried to reinstall Active Sync, changed USB cables, switched USB ports, nothing!! I keep getting ERROR 262 (thought it was 260 at 1st) and wont get past 11% says no connection. I do notice everytime i try this process, Active Sync isnt connected, but the Hermes is connected to the computer! Cause if it cant read the hermes it wouldnt be able to even start the update process. But 11% everytime its stops

Perhaps you could try to flash using the sdcard method. So you would not be connected to a pc anymore. Who knows, it could solve your problem. I know one case where installing an official rom cured also a similar problem.
Quick summary of the sdcard method:
Use an empty sdcard formatted in FAT32
Copy the RUU_Signed.nbh file containing the OS to the card and rename it: hermimg.nbh
Enter bootloader mode (OK + POWER + Softreset). Normally, after the 3colors screen, you will get "Loading" followed by a description of what is on the card.
When ready, press power and... wait...
Good luck (The phone is NOT connected to the pc)
sounds good but I dont have a MicroSD card reader to do that. And I am using an Offical HTC WM6 ROM, thats all I ever used was the offical WM6 Rom from the AT&T site. Like I said, I was able to install WM6 already, but me being a complete idiot was Flashing the upgrade ROM to get the Hermes back to fresh phone factory settings. But I accidentally reset the computer in the middle of Flshing and since then I have never been able to get it to install again, everytime I turn on the phone I am stuck at the Tri-Color Screen, I am able to restart the upgrade process, but it stops at 11% says ERROR 262 and no connectivity!!
please anybody knows anything, this is the only thing I got, my mom got it for me! We cant afford to get a new one, or even fix it, it was a special present!

Ok. I am a bit annoyed if you cannot try the sdflash method (BTW you can ask somebody having a PC to prepare the card for you.)
There are different things you can flash on your hermes. Radio, OS, Splash screens, Extended Rom,.... The most tricky thing is the radio rom as a failure there has a higher probability to brick your pda.
This is why i believe it is very dangerous to flash right away without some readings and understanding about what you do. i hope you had some experience here.
Did you first install hardspl (olipro 2.10 )? This is not mandatory but is a very good protection against bricking. (here the excellent guide of mrvanx: http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=27 )
Did you flash also a radio rom? (Was it included in the "package" you wanted to flash?) If yes, i am a bit anxious that a stop at 11% is a problem... BUT, if you flashed a radio rom, it goes very, very, very... slowly. And gives the feeling that it freezes. For the "radio" part it is normal . I hope you did not stop the process too soon.
Once again, try the sdcard method. Or try to flash an official rom (most of the time containing a radio part...) and be patient. Can take till 25 minutes.
If this does not work, do not panic yet. Others had also problems before you: go there and start reading : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286755 and here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unbrick
There is a hope to solve your problem. Good luck
Try to flash a radio ROM, turn the device on and if it stays at the bootloader screen (the tri colour screen) make a note of the version displayed. Hook up the device with USB cable, dont worry about activesync.
Download and unzip a radio ROM upgrade (try this one), run the exe, select your bootloader version on the screen....follow the screens through and see if it works.....radio roms take ages to flash so DO NOT disconnect your device.....if it doesnt work you most likely have a corrupted radio bootloader.............which is likely since the radio flash takes the longest ammount of time the reset probably occurred halfway through this.................unlucky
Give it a try though.
The lesson to learn here is to READ THRICE and flash once.....never ever disconnect your device out of impatience (which i suspect has happened many times on a radio flash) and be carefull these devices are expensive

I could not say better
I know, the MicroSD method is nice, but when I got the phone the guy gave me a MicroSD card, but not the regular SD card to read it on computers ( i do have a card reader) Guys a super appreciate the replies> I am gonna try everything rite now, but real quick is my Hermes FUCT??? or is this error fixable??? It is just losing communication everytime at the exact same place, it just seems like something is fixable, but my sorry luck i cant get over the hump!! I will let ya'll know ASAP
okay, here is the thing, Every Hermes ROM update utility I have downloaded wont work, i start it and the VERIFY INFO ON HERMS windows appears about 2 minutes late I get ERROR 260 and it exits! Now when I use the OFFICAL WM6 upgrade ROM from the ATT/HTC site it seems to read the HERMES and wanna start the upgrade process, but thats where it ends at 11% No other RUU I have used or tried has even gotten that far, I just get ERROR 260 before it starts and I have to exit.
What it looks like is I cant communicate with my HERMES at ALL!! Active Sync wont see, only when I reset my computer and reset the HERMES and I plug it in a different USB port, it says Installing New Hardware and HTC USB something and then Hardware has installed and is now ready to use. But Active Sync wont recogniZe it
I'm sorry to tell you that but i think you ****ed up your phone and it is as useless as my ****ing jasjam.
please give us some detailed info s about your hermes like IPL SPL GSM STATUS....
When I am in Tri Color Mode I see.......
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
and SERIAL at bottom, then USB when I plug it in to my computer
I had upgraded to WM6 before on it, but me being a impulsive FOOL, i flashed it again to get me back to Factory Setting (didnt know HARD RESET did the same) and I accidentally RESET my computer in the middle of ROM Upgrading and ever since I cant get past 11% when I try to do it again (using the OFFICAL WM6 ROM from HTC)
and I cant get any communication with mtty although I dont know much about that app, I get a CANT load screen appear
is your phone KITL enabled.
hold the COMM manager button + POWER button + OK button (the one on the left side under the jog wheel) and reset with stylus.
if you see KITL dialogue then it is KITL enabled (MY bricked jasjam is KITL disabled)
if it is KITL enabled then read : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=PB_KITL_HERMES and your phone will be just fine.
if it is not then your phone is ****ed up just like mine
HA HA, me and my phone guy (well the guy who I bought my Hermes from) HAVE FOUND A FIX to get the phone outta Bootloader Mode and back into OS!! in my case WM6!! I have to do it 1 more time to fully confirm the method!!!!!!!! My friend is calling "SHOCKING THE PHONE" but not really shocking anything!! I am reluctant to share the method, but this site needs more people to actually HELP out others

Mmm... do i understand correctly your post? Are you hesitating to help others because your method is risky, or because you express some exasperation about people on this site? In this case, do not forget that all people here are exchanging ideas, questions etc on a totally free base without any obligation. In the limits of there knowledge. Encountering a problem after flashing a device is the only responsability of the user. We just try to help. But i prefer to believe that you found a method, still risky, that you need still to test
That said, it seems that there are an increasing number of hermes encountering a problem with the radio part. It seems that stopping a flash at 11% is a symptom of that. See some consolidation of those problems here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349461
I hope you will find a solution for your problem and moreover i hope that none of you bought a hermes second hand with an already radio part problem. If so try always to get your money back...
I AM trying to confirm my method BEFORE i share it, because it might work on mine, and I dont wanna screw anyones hermes up more

I am tring to connect the ppc to the pc with active sync but it doesnt. I have tryed it to 3 - 4 pcs but no luck and there for i cannot flash it. I also did a hard reset it reboted install all its programs by it self but it still doesnt connect to the active sync.
Any help how to flash it from the biginig pls ??
Thanks in advance
Succeded
Sorry to bug you before guys i have succeded to flash it and its all fine all i needed it it was to connect once .
Now if its posible i want to know if there is any article to read about the battery or any soft about it
Thnks again
Mate, install Hard SPL V7 (if you haven't already ) and use the sd card method to install roms...
Go to page 116 post 1160 of this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
for the sd card method to install Hard SPl. To use the sd card method to install a ROM, drop the steps with sspl.exe in them - I believe its steps 5 & 6.
Make sure the sd card is 2 Gb or less, formatted FAT32 and the .nbh file is named hermimg.nbh.
Cheers...
Hi mate
Ok after i flashed in the morning it started working fine for a period of time and then it started the moves again. What it actually does is that the phone is not working the device boots ok with the programs but the phone is not working at all and if it does whene i try to make a call the whole ppc is freezing.
I have tried the hard spl that you provided and i flash it. All ok. Now the problem is that after all the reboots and the freezing to get the phone working the system crash and i tried to flash it again to wm6 the one that i had for over a year now. It reboots the ppc perfectly and i can see in the three color the hard spl ok version 2.10 but when its upgrading to wm6 it freezes to 12%
Any suggestions pls
Thnks a lot
sounds like your radio rom has been corrupted. You can try to flash the shipped stock rom but it may be a permanent brick.
To check, go to settings>system>device info. Check you have a radio rom version and protocol version. If you don't then you have a brick on your hands, sorry...
This seems to be the Achilles heel with the Hermes.
Hi again and i am really sorry to bug you
Here is what i did after trying and messing around with the softwares of the ppc i decided to check for once the hardware like you said about the ratio. I basicly took the whole phone apart to pieces and cleaned it with alcohol and a brush, dodnt know if its the right way but i have to tell you that it worked. It stop give me troble with the phone it starts perfectly and works perfectly except for sometimes that the sigla goes off witch it shoudnt. With the hard spl that you provided it looks a little bit faster too and i am very gradefull.
The thing that remains is that from day one that the problem started the battery witch is new it ends really quick. two days ago before the problem it could last for 2-3 days but now it last bearly for one .
Any suggestions on this?
Thanks for your time.
Just remember that 3G uses a LOT of battery power when in an area that isn't very good for it.
If you flashed a new rom that is using 3G (also check which radio you should be using) and you were using the GSM network before, it could be this that is the problem.
I myself am finding that the battery is going REALLY fast at the moment as I'm working in an area with bad reception. The radio has to work harder to keep signal strength so the battery is consumed fast.
Cheers...
I have Imate JasJam and I installed this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=412895
my phone worked fine for a week but since yesterday I am facing this weird problem, my phone gets stuck and when I do a soft reset, the phone actually gets a hard reset every time.
what is the problem,
well after a hard reset I connected it to pc on active sync and it is working fine till now
ok it worked but I have another problem.
Many times when I reset or turn on the phone, it gets stuck in start and does not load windows, I have to hard reset the device.
What is this problem?
You either need to install a stock ROM before re-installing the ROM you want or you need to check for bad blocks using MTTY.
Do a search to find out about bad blocks...
man I am a total n00b can you please guide me the whole procedure I will be grateful

man I tried to install Hard SPL v7 but it didnt install, it gives this error make sure your device is connected to usb or is on the cradle.
I have the same problem and it is only getting worse
Have checked for bad blocks using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377389&highlight=mtty+wiki and none show up
Have tried jasjam and dopod original roms for Australia with no extra cabs installed but it is just getting worse
Connecting to a computer with active sync seems to make the phone work a bit better but only for a day or two
Cleared memory removed battery several times but device is just becoming more unreliable
Was going to throw against wall but decided to buy a htc fuze INSTEAD
Jasjam may still hit the wall
anyone have any suggestions
Thanks

Right, looking at the ROM sheharyar was using, its a big storage ROM. You need to install a stock rom first, preferably stripped of the radio rom, and go through the complete setup. It seems to stabilize the memory. You can then re-install the big storage ROM. It should now be stable.
If you need to install Hard SPL then go to page 116, post 1160 of the" Hard SPL or how not to brick your Hermes" thread. It gives you instruction on how to install via the sd card method.
After installing Hard SPL you can use the sd card method to install roms. Just drop the steps using sspl.exe. Also use a 2Gb or less sd card formatted FAT32. Watch the spelling of hermimg.nbh as it won't work with mistakes.
Also make sure you have good battery level.
Happy flashing...
Hi All,
I flashed my HTC Fuze with the below ROM
Calkulin's Visual HTC Kitchen v4 for Touch Pro and my mobile is dead now. I missed to unlock the phone before running this update (although very clearly mentioned in the instructions )
Since the mobile is not booting I am not able to flash it with any other ROM or revert back what I did. Computer does not recognize the mobile through ActiveSync. I tried resetting the mobile (Power button + volume down button + OK button), it even says restoring to factory settings, but after restart still hangs at the AT&T screen.
Can anyone please help me out here or I need to take my phone to AT&T service, but that would be the last thing to do as I think the warranty is void with this tampering.
Well, I'm pretty sure that Calkulin cooks for the Herman (aka cdma touch pro). This is your problem (and maybe not your only one).
Flash a stock rom off your sd card.
Edit: Wow, that link takes you to the cdma Diamond forum at ppcgeeks. What were you thinking?
Thanks a lot Ted...!
Thanks a lot Ted. You are my "knight in shining armor". Atleast I have some hope, I think
You just said "Flash a stock rom off your sd card.". Can you please let me know or direct me to a post that tells how to flash rom off the sd card? I am however searching for the best fit for my set.
Also, I think i need to search for an appropriate ROM for my fuze this time.
Thanks again.
Um yeah...you might've just bricked your phone. Your best bet is trying to reflash your phone with an OEM ROM via a MicroSD card, then going to one of the cooked GSM roms on this forum.
Look at the stickied threads in this forum for the procedure and links to an ATT rom.
If that doesn't work, you could try going to an ATT store and playing dumb...there's a small chance they'll replace it under warranty if it hasn't expired yet. If all else fails...you might be able to score a fuze from ebay on the cheap...I'm sure there's a lot of people upgrading to touch pro 2.
Thanks for your reply.
streetlight22 and Ted, Thanks for your reply. I will try this today. Keeping my fingers crossed . If this works, I would be happier than ever (not because I could save some bucks.. but because I love my fuze and can't see it dying).
Every where the step says "renaming the ROM nbh file to RAPHIMG.nbh or something like that. I am wondering if I also need to rename the .nbh file to something before running the update.
The rom image will be named ruu_signed.nbh (if it's a custom rom) or something longer if it's a stock rom. You should try a stock ATT rom image. Just rename it, stick it on the root of your sd card (must be FAT32), and see if you can go into bootloader. If you can't get into bootloader, you're screwed. Remember to hold volume down for several seconds after soft resetting. Press it down before soft resetting. If the tri-color screen doesn't appear, you're in trouble. It should appear briefly, then go grey with a message like 'loading image,' then it will tell you to push power. But if you flashed a diamond cdma rom, you may have totally screwed things up. Most people seem to recover from cdma touch pro roms, but if it's from a different device, you may be screwed.
Hi, if the tri colour screen appears you can try flashing trough your PC, it should find new hardware (htc hot sync or similar), then there should be USB written in the lowest part, then you can flash watever you want from the PC in the manner you are used to.
It worked.. it worked.. my fuze is now up and running WM 6.1. Thanks to all...! Special thanks to Ted for his quick reply and the tip "Remember to hold volume down for several seconds after soft resetting. Press it down before soft resetting". This is what I was not trying inorder to connect fuze with my laptop. My set is back to normal, up and running cool...
Once again thanks to everybody. xda-developers is really really a life saver . Great job guys, keep going...keep helping newbies like us.... we really need u
