sorry about posting this but Im new to this phone, I had a disc come with my phone that contains cab files for software and games. It has a brief instruction document that reads copy all the cab files to the My Documents folder of the SD card or phone. I put them in the SD card to save space, I cant see a My Documents folder so I assume its the root level since in the address bar it reads /My Documents already. But I dont know how to run these files. How do you switch storage device so that you can browse to the SD card?
so you used the File Explorer application to go to your \My Documents folder?
No. Where is the file exlorer app located? I just ran active sync, went to my computer\mobile devices. In that menu I had an option which was the main level, but another icon is displayed which reads mobile device. I go into that Icon. In this screen it reads \My Documents in the address bar. There I can see a folder that reads SDCard which has my data, I put pics and music which I can detect. Anyway in this same menu that reads \My Documents I put all the cab files there but I have no idea how to run these files on the HTC phone.
You can copy the cab files in any folder on the sdcard, no need to copy in my documents.
Once you copy the cab files you need, on your phone, just navigate to start, programs and you should find file explorer, it's like your windows explorer on your computer, using file explorer navigate to the folder where you copied cab files are. Just tab the any one cab file, it start installing and will ask you if you want to install on the phone or sd card (to save storage on the phone). Select one and install. After install, you should see a link in start/programs to launch the programs.
Hope this helps.

You sure you named it correctly?
Per the wiki at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing:
- Empty (erase the contents) of your microSD card from the Windows Mobile file explorer or format it from your computer using a card reader (in some cases format doesn't work) make shure it's formated in fat32 format. As a precaution you might want to check the MicroSD card for file errors. i.e (Properties->Tools->Error Checking)
- Extract the .NBH file from your prefered ROM upgrade: In windows use winrar (right click) to extract the contents of the exe file. In Linux / MacOS use cabextract.
- Rename the .NBH file to HERMIMG.nbh and copy it to the root folder of your microSD card.
- With microSD card inserted on the phone, start the bootloader (hold Ok button on left side and POWER button at same time and stick with stylus in RESET on bottom).
I'm on dial-up at home.. is there any program or anything I can install on my Hero to download files onto its SD card (through HTTP or torrents) and then transfer them to my computer from there, without having to tether?
Simply put, yes this is quite possible. However, it's a multi-part answer.
From the browser/GMail app (among others) you can download certain file types. Other file types are supposedly not supported, but I'm sure there are ways around that. Perhaps the Dolphin browser would allow you to download any file type, but I'm not sure, I don't use it.
Once you've downloaded the files you want, simply plug in your Hero to your PC, then on your phone, drag the notification area down and click the "USB Connected" notification to turn on USB mode. This will essentially transform the phone and its SD card to a USB drive for your computer, so you can use Finder/Explorer/Nautilus to browse the SD card and copy any files you want. I believe the HTC browser puts files in /downloads/, other apps might use other locations.
I have a few hundred apps on my SDCard from my MYTOUCH but I can't seem to find a way to put them n the SDCARD for my X10 using the SE PC Companion....I could just use the other SDCARD in my X10, but then the phone does not recognize my folder where my pictures are. I also have word documents on that SDCARd I would like to keep along with mybackup pro app back up files are there also.
Just mount the drive onto the PC so the computer sees your X10 as a removable drive. Then you can just stick the APK or whatever into the right folder through your PC. PC Companion is used for backup and restore for the most part. Not really transferring files, its not that efficient.
possible work around
you can't directly open files on the SD card, but you can use any file manager app from the android market to access the SD card and open files (APKs) from there
i personally use AndFTP which is also an ftp client
Hi. I have Android 4.1.2, which is stock on my Virgin Mobile ZTE N9810 phone that is 4gLTE. It is also called Sprint Vital on Sprint. On the Android 4.1.2--when I hook it up to the PC via USB; it does not show folders like the app ES Explorer does on the phone. My problem is that older versions of Androids showed all files and folders on my Windows 7 H.E. PC. This version does not. I need to access the download folder on the sd card but can't. On the PC in Windows Explorer, it does not show all folders on SD card, including the folder "Download." I have a video on there that i need to transfer to my PC, but because it's not showing that folder, I cannot transfer the file. I can work around that, but don't want to. I want access to the Download folder. Tried searching in Windows Explorer too and it comes up empty. Don't understand why this is so different than older Android versions. Also tried to get to it from the Phone folder verse SD Card folder. Still no luck and cannot find mnt folder either with Android 4.1.2. Even tried changing the USB connection option, like "Install Driver", "Connect to PC Software," and "Media Device (MTP)"-default option.
Note: If I go to Phone/Download, images and pdf files are there-even though they are on sd card-, but this folder with a video is not. Also, I have Show hidden files and folders checked in windows explorer.
So in summary, I need to access the SD Card download folder on my PC from my phone through USB, but it is missing and folders do not show the same in Windows Explorer as they do in ES Explorer on the phone. It is almost like the phone chooses what to displayon my pc.

This is a first for me and I've tried Google with not much luck but after I rooted my v10 I've not been able to see the files I downloaded on internal drive. It happened right after instaling no name Rom hence the only 2 files that show we're the first 2 I downloaded but I've downloaded more since then but they don't show when conected to my computer. This includes pictures as well. But the files are very much there they show with any android file explorer and the only way I've been able to view them is if I pull them the internal folder and move them to the micro sd. I've never come across this issue before was wondering if anybody had any advice.
