3 Mobile - HTC Touch Pro - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

I was wondering if anyone knew of a radio rom update that would allow the HTC Touch Pro from 3 Mobile Aus to roam on to the Telstra Next G network. They advertise that some newer phones can. Any info in the area would be helpful. Also if you are with 3 Mobile in Aus what rom radio do you use?

Hi there,
This topic has been covered in great detail in other threads in this forum - most of them late last year when the device hit the shelves and the short answer is no it cant be done as the hardware has been found to lack the 850mhz radio.
In a few months it probably wont matter as Vodafone will switch on their new3G 900mhz network extension and i can bet you that 3 users will get access to it. It wont make sense for VHA to operate a national 3G network and only give half of its subscibers access to it whilst the other half roam on its competitors network. Just my opinion and what I would think would make good commercial sense and im sure these guys will be looking to get a return on their investment so I would wait and see what happens. Our touch pro works fine on 3G 900 as I have used it in Optus' 3G 900 zone.

I forgot to mention that the best radio for use on the 3 network is 1.11.25.01. Since flashing this radio I can talk through what used to be dead spots in their network.

Best Radio in the USA

I just got the phone and I cannot find the right radio to use in order to get 3g speeds:
. What is the best radio to use in order to get 3g and HSUPA speeds over 300 kbps/sec? I use to have this speed when I got my AT&T 8525 that is ancient now. How do I get the speed I use to have off the 8525 on this phone?
Thank you for your responses in advance.

Do you mean HSDPA?
(downlink - tower to phone)
or
HSUPA
(uplink - phone to tower)?
Is your posted speed from the downlink test?

well as u see i am new at this. i read a lot from these forums since i love the htc product. but i don't know how to tether or anything like that. i just installed the radio i just displayed hoping to be able to get 3g speed. but it stays at edge at all times.

and the site u used to determine my speed i just found off google is a downlink site. and still my speed is slower than edge speeds.
Keep in mind the tower that is servicing your phone can have crap for bandwidth too.
I was near Gretna, VA on a trip and had full bars on 3g. I swear they had a dial-up modem on the other end of the tower though. Google maps were loading up slower than a typical edge connection.
In the end, it may not be your radio that's giving you trouble.

I tried it through out Atlanta today. Different towers and several areas of metro Atlanta. West Atlanta, North Atlanta, and East Atlanta.
Keep in mind my phone is the htc touch pro. I do not have the brand names from t-mobile or AT&T.
Should I try a different rom or is that a useless effort?

You may have a hardware limitation. I noticed on the various Rhodiums that were around and for sale, the unlocked Touch Pro 2's stated they were not ATT 3G compatible, although they were 3G compatible. Apparently there are different implementations of 3G.
You may want to look into whether that is something in the firmware associated with the radio (Radio ROM) or the hardware itself.
Sounds like sprint
If you have the SPRINT service or a SPRINT phone, you do not have the "3G" icon enabled. This is because SPRINT uses the EDGE network and not the 3G network. They say that their network now (REV A) is actually what they consider 3.5G and is supposed to be faster than regular 3G . I have no issues with my phone with the speed, however, if you want the 3G to display, find a custom task bar and that icon will change to the 3G. Once again, SPRINT does not display "3G"
Hope this helps.

i looked into the hdw side of things ... it looked like it is compatible according to the specs. i did notice there r some firmware update on htc that was released this yr. i'll have to look into that.

i thought of that too. that this rom my not have the 3g icon, but from time to time it will show "G" and then back to "E". and as far as i know ... i shough have close to 300kbs or more for downspeed. and i right?
thanks everyone for all of ur input. i'll look into all of it and get back to u. thx again.
If you have a standard Touch Pro (not Fuze or T-Mobile version), there's a very good chance you accidently picked up European version of it. European version will have European 3G, which is not compatible with US 3G frequency bands. Look into your documentation and see if you phone supports the following:
AT&T uses 850/1900
TMobile uses 1700/2100
European frequency bands are 1800/2100 if I remember correctly.
I have the Fuze and radio 1.14.25.35, and I get 396kB/s with only 2 bars...
Oh, and I'm in Connecticut.
lame!
something has got to be wrong man....i live hours away from 3G and if i even look at my phone wrong i lose reception!
BUT i got 281-392 Kbps!
Have you called your provider?

That could be true, but the documentation i have states:
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
the 850 and 1900 Mhz should not matter if its in europe or in usa, right???
but there is a new updates. i Used IE on the phone and my speed is incredible. i was able to test 3mb and it came back with speeds higher than fast 3g. just like my old phone. but under opera it would not go any faster than 40 kbs. i used another browser called skyfire. and i went to mobilespeedtest and got: . i went to cnet brandwidth test and got 3632.3 kbps. lol. amazing it looks like opera was my problem. hear are all of my results:
opera: (after testing using the other browsers now i get these results)
mobilespeedtest.com
cnet bandwidth test
.6745 mbps
IE:
mobilespeedtest
.408 mbps
Skyfire:
mobilespeedtest.com
cnet bandwidth test
3.2588 mbps
is it me ... or does your phone get warm when u use the net for a long time???
I doubt that the results are valid with a browser like Skyfire. It does all the rendering on the skyfire server instead of on your phone. It's probably reporting the rates in between the test site and the Skyfire server. Skyfire is fast, though; it's much faster at bringing up a full webpage than any other browser. You can open up espn.com in about 5 seconds.

[Q] Not able to connect to Internet

Wondering if you can help me.
In my office my colleuge and I have an hd2 on UK o2 pay monthly. Untill about a month a go we were getting HSPDA internet access. Now we are only getting EDGE. I contacted o2 and they stated that the area is a very high coverage area and we should be getting HSPDA.
What makes matters more interesting is two other colleuges in my department in the same building, one has an iphone 3 and the other has an iphone 4, both guys are on uk 02 pay monthly and are getting full 3g access. I am getting 3g and hspda in other areas.
Does anybody know why we are getting edge instead of at least 3g?
thanks.
I had a very simillar issue, so perhaps the solution I found will work for you. A co-worker of mine bought an HD2 (immediately after seeing mine). In many areas at work the reception was terrible. I also noticed that at home, when I first had the phone I got 3G often, but after a few weeks I was suddenly stuck on the EDGE network (If I got any reception at all). Since messing around with the Android port I was forced to flash a new Radio ROM and it seems that was my problem all along. At home I now get constant full bars HSPDA. At work I get reception in places that I never did before. My coworker (still using stock radio) is having the same reception issues I used to have.
So my advice is try a few different radios and see if that helps.

Yea we did try that the other night thinking it might be a radio issue we went from 2.5 up to 2.12. What rom / radio did you use if you dont mind me asking?
Does anybody else have any ideas? This is happening with two ok uk hd2's in the office! My colleuge and I have tried multiple rom and radio upgrades but nothing is working but my other colleuge on iphone can get 3g sitting beside me
ive had this issue too, never knew how to fix it :/
AGHHHHHHHHHHHH Going to call o2 tomorrow and tell them I want to swap for a new phone, I am not getting the service I should be!!!
Ive tried just about everything I can think of. Ive tried updating the ROM, Radio, rilphone.dll - also tried going back to stock rom, yet my colleuge sits on his iphone right beside me on 3g its madness!
have you tryed puting your phone into flight mode then .ack on again let thephone pick the strongest hsdpa mast signal up. welcome to tbd way o2 works lol we get it all the time in york and leeds
That is a very interesting idea. I will try and report back thanks man!
I am really getting no ware with this. Phoned O2 and they tested phone in my network said that I should be ok I should have full hspda access, my colleuge is sitting on iphone with ull 3g and has a o2 dongle which has hspda access. I am getting fulll signal strength, changed the sim card and tried multiple radio and dll file combos and this is driving me nuts. Any help would be appreciated.
I have been doing some further testing and found something interesting. When I am at home and can connect to HSPDA. I went into the base band and changed it to WMCDA got full access. I then changed it to GSM band and got Edge. I then went into work to test it and tried to force it to WMDCDA but it wouldn't even connect at all no coverage.
I tried it back on GSM and full coverage but only edge support. Any ideas?

Worth getting Titan on T-Mobile?

Just recently discovered this phone and love it!
However, i'm on T-Mobile. I'm not one of those people that have to have fast speeds on a phone and I'm usually around wi-fi.
Would this phone be worth getting and then using it on T-Mobile?
Hello! Maybe this one helps you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_IrKOXeZ7w
i have been using mine on t-mobile for a couple months now and it does suck not having 3g all the time. cant download certain things or some apps simply wont work running on edge when your out and about. works excellently on wifi. i would say if you get it for a good price do it. the screen size is awesome and its a fast phone. but i wouldnt drop $600 on it for it to run on edge. i won mine at a windows phone event night and unlocked it for $30

I totally agree with the statement from shamoozoo. I did the same thing about two months ago. I bought an AT&T phone and paid the price ($16.00 US) to get the unlock code to make it work on T-Mobile. Everthing works well except the data. Only getting Edge as the maximum data speed. Someone wrote in another thread about a pending T-Mob/AT&T data roaming agreement that will give us faster speeds and that it'll happen around the summer of this year so crossing my fingers on that one. Also, waiting for the unbranding ROM which will get rid of the AT&T "stuff" on my Titan and give me the internet sharing (tethering) for free.
t.mobile were not doing the deal I wanted so went with vodaphone. When using WiFi everything is instant. Don't know if it is the same with other networks. Even playing games online is instant. I love this phone.
HTC Titan x310a (AT&T) on T-Mobile...
Hey there. I too am a T-Mobile subscriber, using the AT&T branded version of the HTC Titan, and here's my 2ยข; When I saw the announcement for this phone, I was blown away, and just HAD to have it. I had a buddy who's with AT&T, and was eligible for a phone upgrade, but didn't want to use it, because he liked his current phone, so he allowed me to use it, so I got my Titan for $200. The biggest drawback, which others have mentioned here, is that, due to the AT&T radio firmware, which is incompatible with T-Mobile's 3G & 4G network, I'm stuck at 2G (EDGE). Also, I cannot use T-Mobile's Visual Voicemail. Other than these 2 issues, the Titan is phenomenal! Now, here's the good news; XDA-Developer members Cotulla, and the Dark Forces Team are currently working on a HardSPL & custom ROM for these incredible phones! Once they are finished, and make these tools available to the community, we will be able to flash custom Windows Phone ROMs, and different radio firmware, which will allow our Titans to use T-Mobiles
3G & 4G network bands! So my opinion is thus; the HTC Titan is an EXCELLENT phone to use on any GSM network. Good luck!
Hello,
I am in the same situation, I got the ATT Titan activated on T mobile and I get only Edge signal. Let us know when the Rom is done, I will for. I got My Titan free so nothing to lose but will like to have working on 4G.
Thank you.
I don't think alternate ROMs will get you 3G on T-Mobile. Until proven, that's just wishful thinking.
Radio Firmware doesn't change the actual Bands the phone uses its simply a hardware limitation. When and if T-Mobile does data roaming with AT&Ts 3G then yea you will have 3G/HSPA+ until then your stuck with EDGE until they light it up in your area.
And even if software controlled the radio bands we would first need compatible tmobile firmware for the Titan that would work with WP7 very restrictive OS.
The only way an AT&T-branded Titan will ever get 3G on T-Mobile USA is if and when T-Mo refarms their spectrum to use 1900MHz band for UMTS.

[Discussion]T-Mobile Unlocked HOX+ Users

Hey yall I just wanted to start a discussion thread for T-Mobile like me who are braving T-Mobile's refarmed network and using the HTC One X+ (International or unlocked AT&T variant). Maybe we can get a few tips and tricks together to make our user experience a bit better.
For example, such radios yall are using, any build.prop edits that might help data speeds or GPS locking speed (if you are using the international version like I am).
Ill update the OP with the list of suggestions, maybe an FAQ.
I've been using the Phone Info app to turn off the LTE radio, although I'm not entirely sure that is does. I use the GSM auto mode which is the default on 3G non LTE phones. The default on the One X+ is GSM/WCDMA/LTE
Is anyone experiencing weak or wavering 3G signal (over PCS) as discussed toward the end of this thread (scroll down about halfway on page three)?
http://forums.tmonews.com/index.php?topic=18318.40
The very knowledgeable posters there say that T-Mobile is using less power on PCS (WCDMA), as compared to AWS, right now. And probably won't turn it up until they start shifting AWS to LTE.

Yep, my Nexus 4 gets constant HSPA+ where I get spotty PCS
I have a question for you guys that are using the HOX+ on T-mobile.
What type of sim card are you using?
I know that on the original HTC One X, you had to use a non-gba sim card that said 50.01 on the front to make it work, and that if you used the one that said 50.05 you wouldn't get data even if you change the APN settings.
I just bought this phone a few minutes ago on Amazon and I know Houston is a 1900MHZ pcs market so that's not an issue, i just want to make sure I don't run into any issues with the sim card I have as it is fairly new.

Well I cut my sim from a regular SIM card so there aren't really numbers on it. I think you'll be safer with a newer one than an older one so you're fine.
Also located in Houston and getting pretty good 3G
I tried to sign up over at tmonews forums and registration for new users is closed. Anybody have any insight as to when that will reopen?
I believe one of the reasons TMO has to go with lower power at first is to measure the impact of their new 1900mhz spectrum usage in the existing market in question. Since other carriers are using the same spectrum they need to make sure they do not cause interference. The best way to do that is short and long term RF studies. Start off with a refarmed freq at lower power then over time bump up the power and make sure it doesnt cause any new interference. If so then your able to go to a higher power. Im sure the FCC has time constraints for this but add into it the amount of towers im sure the carrier would rather accomplish more with each visit. So if an upgrade or tweek is needed then they can also adjust the power.
Forgot to add i recently acquired the ATT version of the HTC ONE X+ 64GB and it does ok in the Dallas area. Had it switch a few times to G and E but for the most part i stays on 4G. HSPA+21.6 DL speeds go between 2megs down and 9 megs down.
Prior to that i was using a Nexus 4 and TMO GS3. I seem to have better speeds with my GS3.

The forums have been like that for a while (at least months). Don't know why. Perhaps you can email the person who writes the blog and ask about it.
I live in the Orlando area, I am on Straight Talk. I was using an at&t compatible SIM from straight talk and got up to 7mb down and 1.5mb up but these speeds were not consistent, a few days ago I switched to a t -mobile compatible SIM from straight talk and now I get consistent 12mb down and 3mb up. I was very surprised! I'm so glad I did this switch
I am using an at&t 1X+ which I unlocked.

4G not showing

Hey,
I've had the phone for a couple of days and have flashed it with smiui rom. Its working really well but i have not seen the 4g icon at the top of the screen, all i see is 3g or H. I had read online before i brought this that it would work with O2 4g.
Has anyone else had this and know how to resolve it?
Thanks

I'm assuming you're in the UK? If so, sorry to break this to you, but O2 4g currently only works on Band 20 (800MHz) (see here for more), which the RN2 doesn't support, it only supports Bands 1, 3 and 7 (1800/2100/2600MHz). There has been some attempt to unlock addition LTE bands in this thread using NVRAM hacks, but no dice so far.
To be fair, Band 20 is not the best for 4g, and is mainly used for rural areas to fill signal holes (there is some interesting info over on the OnePlus forums here). It's often not much faster than 3G. I personally am with Three in the UK on a Redmi Note 2, and I get some 4G in Central London.
So tl;dr wherever you got your info about O2 4G support for he RN2, it was wrong. Perhaps they will expand if the merger with Three goes through, otherwise, you're stuck.
f*ck
thanks for letting me know
