Perfume burned a hole through my screen cover - G1 Accessories

Well, I was at the mall yesterday and my friends ambushed me with several bottles of perfume, many sprays of which hit my G1, specifically the screen which was covered with a protector. I wiped it off immediately of course. When I got home, there was a small hole near the center in the protector, and it looks like the whole screen protector is flaking apart. Ive already ordered a new one, but why would this happen?

The only thing i can think of is the alcohol in her perfume found a weak spot in the protector?
Then it spread like cancer, i mean look at what alcohol does to a liver

got any pictures of it?

since ur a girl you should order the mirror screen protector

The base of most spray-type scents/perfumes is an organic solvent. Typically alcohol (of the 'rubbing' variety) but possibly something synthetic. I probably don't have to explain what happens when organic solvent comes into contact with weak plastic.

Bad perfume. Didn't you know that the G1 can sense one's you shouldn't buy? haha

is it bad that i actually need you to "have to explain what happens when organic solvent comes into contact with weak plastic"? other than it burns a hole, but more so why?

Strong solvents will dissolve plastic. The plastic becomes plasticized. A more rigorous explanation can be found in an organic chemistry textbook.

I dropped my TD2

Hi,
Unfortunately today I dropped my Td2 to the city streets! My my has broken!
The two corners on the top damaged and metal place under the buttons. But the touch screen not!!!
Has anyone information where can I buy frame for Td2 in the internet? I couldn't reach the service in Hungary.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck. If all else fails just thought I would mention I have seen a faulty one in the Marketplace in case of any use.
Hope you get sorted.
Look at this!!

Who knows what the silver color frame is made of.
It seems to be some kind of metal "cap" on a plastic frame.
But what metal ?
What do you think/know about it ?

Sorry to hear about your crashed device :-(
May be you can tell us now what material the silver frame is really made of.
Metal or only sprayed plastic ?
Under the 4 buttons is metal but the corners on the top are plastic.

Finally I chose the official service because warranty. The price will be 75 eur.
That sucks that you dropped the phone. I have dropped mine twice at home on Hardwood floors and once in the street. The one in the stree was a ig one. Luckily the only damage is to the top left corner. It has a tiny indent. Doesn't bother me much.
Its made of plastic with matal framing in it.

Get a lanyard, then before you start doing anything slip the lanyard over your wrist and you can't drop it.

I'm not sure from the pictures but can anyone tell me if the front frame comes with the (touch) screen already in place or do we have to glue it or whatever ourselves?
Oh! Almost forgot....... I dropped my TD2 and the front frame is a bit damaged in all corners!
Has anyone bought one of these housings and found it to be complete (not missing the camera metal cover) from ebay?
I have been bitten once and am twice shy now.
Also trying to find concise disassembly instructions.

[Q] Doesn't lie flat

Does anyone's handset not lie flat on its screen? Without anything on it (screen protector, case, etc.) mine can rock on two of the corners if I push them down. I noticed my iPod does it too so I thought it was weird.

Did a quick check and mine does that too. Probably just a slight plastic warpage due to mfg tolerances.
Mine lays perfectly flat. It doesn't speak very much, so not sure if it lies.

You "lay" a book on the desk. You "lie" down on the couch. Hence, my phone doesn't "lie" flat on the table. Look it up. Someone's a little too eager to make a stranger feel dumb. Now you just look silly lol. Bummer man......

debadge x2

I saw some threads about this in other phones (like bionic)
Now I know we can't get the verizon off the face of our phone since it is under the glass
but it IS possible to take it off the battery cover by rubbing gently with a penny or a fingernail.
I just scratched it off using my thumbnail and it looks nice without the Verizon in white under the red Droid x2.
Wasn't sure if anyone had done this before. Not a big deal but it does look smooth and nice
Edit:: if anyone knows of a way to get the Verizon off the face of the screen please let me know

I heard if you put a tiny layer of something over the logo and then take a sugar cube and rub off where the logo is it will come off. Haven't tried it myself though.
EDIT: I think it was scotch tape, some sort of tape.

Yeah the Verizon logo on battery cover came right off for me. And it was as simple as scraping it away with my thumbnail.
It came off just like I was scratch a lotto ticket ...very easy for battery cover logo.
Now in the face of the phone is a different story lol
It IS under the glass
That's what I thought.thanks for confirmation.
I wonder if I can get to it by taking the phone apart
. There was a video on youtube that shows how to take it apart and put back together. Not sure if that area will be accessible to alter tho.
maybe ill grab me a broken x2 from ebay and try it out sometime

AT&T? Yeah I don't think so lol
maybe I had one to many beers today but ur posts make no sense to me at all so far hahaha
Use tape to cover the lower screen area, mark out the lower nonscreen area including logo with a sharpie, so you have a black area on the surface to match the lower screen where the logo is/was. And put on a screen protector.
Ahhh. I get it now lol .like painters tape for a straight edge lol
..why did u think I work for AT&T? Cuz I don't want Verizon showing? Haha
Im thinking clearer now can ya tell? Lol

Glass Replacement

So, I see only one other thread about this, but I dropped my phone (Clumsy me left it on a chair, it slid off, and spider webbed my phone(SUCH a short distance)) But, I've bought the replacement part myself, and I plan on doing the repair myself. Is there anything I should know before I actually do this? Has total disassemble of the phone been done before?
Not to hijack your thread, but it drives me nuts how my LGOG seems to seek out-on its own-a way to dive off my coffee table/sofa/end table...no matter how flat and non inclined I sit it two seconds later and...CRASH! floor time...luckily mine has been taking it ok. So I feel your pain, and hope you get the help you seek.

I replaced the digitizer on an HTC Vivid and used 3m double sided tape and doubled that up so the screen wasn't directly on top of the lcd. The video for that one recommended doing that to keep some weird effects on the screen.

Whats the youtube vid name?
Maybe try some silicone glue
Maybe try some of the silicone seal (blue silicone glue) to attach it. If nothing else you might try some electronic stores (specialty or other Cell phone repair stores) for the glue that is needed. I would opt for something that isn't so hard on stuck and maybe go for something that holds tight and seals well but doesn't make it damn near impossible.

[Q]anybody try to take off the factory film on Z ultra?

I'm taking off the film right now but it look like there is no film on the front....
I need little help here
Dude, WTF!
Just kidding. Yes, there's a film on the front. It's just really really glued on there. There's a whole thread with annoyed people trying to get it off. It's here in the Q&A section. You'll need a razor and a heat source (not a flamethrower) if i remember correctly.
EDIT: Here it is.

I didn't take the progress pictures of it so I'm just gonna explain.
First, you need hair dryer and razor blade. heat you ZU about 10 to 15 sec with hot air and start to take it off.
this film is very odd it is not gonna peel off, instead, it is gonna break in piece( very odd material...)
it will take about an hour.
after you've done take off the file, you will see massive amount of adhesive on the screen.
I used acetone to remove the adhesive.
I might post about how to take off the z ultra film soon since it looks bit brief (I don't have enough time right now )
Awesome job. Did you get a glass protector to replace it?

Wow. Just Wow.
I got about 1/10th of the way through. Darn it all! Can't go back now.
I started this assuming this wasn't going to take an hour. It did. Sharp, sharp razor. Lots of pushing around and post removal of the film, a little more razor. NO scratches. No divets. Wonderful.
The results (contrast the back with the smudgy and gashed - small lines) with the front and it's night and day.
I'll leave the back alone but I'm very satisfied with my even more gorgeous viewing surface. Not my favorite way to spend a mid-afternoon, but it worked.
