Anyone try using their TP2 with a Celio RedFly yet? If so, did it work? How did the RedFly handle the touchflo interface?
thx
-j
Why would you? It's the same resolution as the TP2, and the TP2 doesn't lack a keyboard...
Yes it works, i installed it for my father who is using it in his chauffer car as a bigger screen due to some software for his job.
Thanks!

Much easier to type on the Redfly keyboard
Redfly has the ability to recharge the Tilt
Larger screen makes it easier to see some applications (maps, images, etc)
Can plug in a USB thumb drive to the Redfly and access the files on the thumb drive
Can output the screen of the Tilt to a projector if needed (I'm a trainer, this is a big one)
Can use an external mouse or keyboard if necessary
Makes it a laptop replacement for those of us not lucky enough to have a laptop
At least those are MY reasons for using them in tandem. Anyone want to add to this?
Installed Redfly on my ATT Tilt 2 with NRG Photon installed. After installation, screen would show anything but black. Had to hard reset and restore with Sprite Backup.
Email from support:
Stephen,
The Celio Corp Engineering team is currently investigating support for the new ATT Tilt 2. Assuming that no significant issues arise, Beta support for that phone may be available in the near future. For a complete list of the currently supported phones, please visit http://www.celiocorp.com/smartphone.
We do appreciate your interest in Celio Corp and our products, and we hope that you will subscribe to our newsletters at http://www.celiocorp.com/subscribe to insure you get the latest news and product updates.
Windows mobile 6.5 in general though will be supported starting mid November, and so phones using 6.5 OS will be released as compatible periodically after being tested as compatible.
Thanks,
Jeff S

Just wanted to report that with nothing more than installing the application from the Celio website, my Tilt 2 and the Redfly work well together, and the screen resolution matches exactly. That makes a HUGE difference from my old Tilt in usability.
Waiting on celio
HMMM,......yeah i tried the wm6.1 utility from the website on my fuze which i was running arrupenthals rom and i thought i bricked my phone. i too got the solid black screen and then almost a brown stain....lol, had to hard reset fuze, however been simultaneously running my tilt and wifes tilt on redfly and it is working perfect. last week i got my tilt 2 and called tech support talked to stephen also, and he gave me the same spill...."we are beta testing 6.5 and will have it available mid november.", personally i think that SUX, HOW LONG HAS CELIO KNOWN THAT 6.5 WAS BEING RELEASED, I THINK THAT A COMPANY THAT BASES IT FLAGSHIP PRODUCT ON WINMO USABILITY SHOULD BE THE FIRST TO HAVE A WORKING DOWNLOADABLE UTILITY THE MINUTE WINMO6.5 RELEASES..................CAN I GET SUM LUV?????????????????????.....ALSO THEY HAVE SWITCHED TECH SUPPORT CENTERS, SO THE GUYS DOING ALL SUPPORT ARE NOW NEW
Celio put out an updated driver on 11/4. I can happilly report that I am posting on my redfly paired with my tilt 2. Remote desktoping is wonderful.
I do not see an update for 11/04, Please tell me the version number as I don't want to have to hard reset the phone because I tried it again. I see no 6.5 WM versions working yet on their site.
thanks
Glad I searched and found this thread before posting the same question. I appreciate J...geek's reply about my question for a bluetooth keyboard. I don't doubt it would work, but I am glad I kept searching and found this Redfly device. Helpful thread. Wish is wasn't so expensive.
I got a question: I am dumbfounded that there is not more information about the battery in the redfly. I finally found that it is an Ion. How many recharges can it endure? Also, when it needs replacing, how?

First, sorry if this violates the ettiquette of this site. If so, mods feel free to delete.
I'm selling my XDA. It's been upgraded to 64 megs RAM by pocketpctechs, and has WM2003 and the ATT always on radio stack. It has paint peel marks, but works fine. It would also make a great 2nd unit for any of you tweakers.

Tony:
Why are you selling? You're not going back to Treo are you? Good luck!
David
No, not the Treo, but the Sony UX50 and a Siemens S55 BT phone. Back to Palm OS! At the end of the day, the landscape browsing combined with the landscape hard keyboard sold me. If the device had come out as a PPC, I would have gotten it instead.
Also, believe it or not, I'm actually happy to be going back to 2 devices! I find that I need my phone all the time, but my PDA only some of the time. A nice tiny phone is great for nights out, quick errands, etc. I don't need my PDA at those times. Either way, not a decision I took lightly. I know I'll get another PPC too at some point, maybe an XDAII, maybe the upcoming iPaq 4xxx with the hard keyboard...

Ok first things first - there is no "Athena" anymore. It is known as the "Advantage"
The x7500 was released March 07 & the x7501 was released June 07
There are 3 VERY IMPORTANT differences between these two units. Namely, 3 things the 7500 DOES NOT have.
1. The x7501 HAS A BACK LIT KEYBOARD
2. The x7501 HAS A SEPARATE GRAPHICS ACCELERATOR CARD
3. And commonly known - the x7501 comes standard with WM6
Regards,
Simon
Do you have any links that say your 1 & 2 points? Amazon for example doesn't list what you claim. Also note the 7501 removes the front camera from what I've read online.
I dunno.......???

Can ANYONE verify this? I know, I'm a newbie/lurker, but I've seen two X7501s. Neither had a lit screen. I'd be off the fence and in line if this is for sure.
1- nope, sorry, no back lit keyboard
2- still using the ati imageon
3- yep, its wm6
no video camera
no tomtom software included
I have 2 of them, bought 3 weeks ago at compusa in az.
1. Wrong
2. Dunno
3. Yes

what about the microdrive, is it still a drive or SSD ?
it doesnt have a front cam.
it doesnt have a backlit keyboard.
BOTH have the graphics accellerator.
There hard, hardware wise identical, sans the front camera.
with regard to Athena and Advantage Athena is the htc internal codename and Advantage is the product name, think Hermes and TytN

I think that page is incorrect besides from everyone here saying it has no lighted keyboard the picture is showing the x7500 not x7501 I believe.

The page is incorrect! It is NOT backlit, and the X7500 has MORE features....NOT less than the X7501. I have one of each, and I can tell you these things for CERTAIN!!!
X7501 = Less features-Less cost (Typical for the US carriers,I might add!)

My Keyboard is backlit by my screen
That is funny. And it give the keyboard a 3D look.
Threads like this that spread such dubious misinformation should be locked immediately. It is irresponsible of the OP to post this info without individual verification. A wiki somewhere on the 'net is not the definitive source of information. The users on this site have far more information and always will.
And finally, we are a technical site and we will always refer to HTC devices by their internal code names. So, Athena it is
I've heard people complain about the lack of backlighting on the keyboard and thought, so what, I can read it from the screen. WRONG! I ran into a situation last night when the light was only slightly dim and I couldn't see the symbols on the keys worth a damn. It needs a backlight. This could be a real problem for some folks. I'm thinking about getting one of those reading lamps people use to attach to their books for reading in bed.
I have basically left the keyboard behind. Once you start doing Block Recognizer text input you can input faster than typing (typing on the Athena board, but equivalent in my case to a normal laptop KB).
And yes, I can even do it in real vga mode, no problems.
The Block Recognizer text input is basically the same as the Palm Graffiti input method, it is genius!

What software are you using for that?
It's part of the OS. You don't need software, you just change the input method from Keyboard to Block Recognizer.

Sorry, I'm new with WM6. One feature that got me interested and buying the X7500 Advantage was for the remote desktop. I recall reading a thread about that and was able to download WM6 RDP-Finster. However, I wasn't able to get it to work till now. Please advise on an error message stating that my computer is not set up for remote desktop. Please help me out here as buying the advantage most features didn't come in as handy as I thought it would be. One would be, the Tomtom GPS, one free map, and how sad, I live in Canada, meaning, they don't offer the free map here. Anyways, back to the topic, please advise on how to get remote desktop (I'm currently using Vista Home Premium) to work on my Advantage.
You could also try using vnc. I have successfully vnc'ed into to computers from my AT&T 8525. Just search up vnc mobile.
And I think there is a free program called pocket streets or something. I don't know if it does gps, but you could give it a try.

I suspect your problem is nothing to do with the Athena or WM6 - it is to do with Vista Home Premium. If you are trying to connect from your Advantage to your Vista machine it won't work as Vista Home Premium does not allow incoming remote desktop (i.e. terminal server) connections - another example of MS cutting down its own software.
There is apparently a solution but I haven't tried it:http://www.unet.fi/fransblog/2007/08/30/enable-remote-desktop-connection-on-vista-home-premium/
Yup, just use VNC. Install it, set your password, open a hole in your firewall for the right port (or ports, if you enable both Java viewer and direct connection). Done.
As for the maps - just buy an aftermarket product. I couldn't stand relying on the data connection for map info since cell service can be spotty in my area, so I bought Delorme's mapping software. It comes with full North American maps. There are other options on the market, too.

looks like a really good pogram but mot want A free solution and abiet most vista pc's are preloaded with either home
basic or home premium that leaves you to a free solution like the vista premium hack mentioned above or VNC. also the aspect that the t-mobile wm6 official rom seemed to be missing RDP was a let down when realising that the original wm5 rom had it in there was quite dissapointing heheh

I'm getting fed up! I have a 16 GB T-Mobile Ameo (x7510 Athe400) with NO means of unlocking it, NO optimised ROMS I can load, and somewhat less than helpful approach from the admins here who cannot even be bothered to create a sub forum for the x7510.
I've had the Ameo for two months now and while the 5" screen is nice, and I appreciate the on-board GPS, the fact is I got it above all else as a tool to do my job. Specifically, to use with Remote Desktop to provide quicker response times in delivering network support to my clients.
I used to be the proud owner of a Universal. The Uni doesn't have GPS, nor an accelerometer and the screen is smaller. It has far less memory (64 and 128 MB models).
It does have 3G and a FAR superior keyboard and my Ameo has never seemed as responsive as the Uni, even though on paper the Ameo should be far superior!
In my car I used to use a Bluetooth rearview mirror as a hands-free solution as I cannot abide those silly earpieces that makes you look like something out of Star Trek! Except I couldn't get it to pair with the Ameo. Oh it paired with my Uni, my Wizard before I broke that, my Touch (elf 256) and now my Touch Diamond, but NOTHING I did could get it to pair with the Ameo!
Result: I had to buy an i.Tech Clip II handsfree device!
There are many little things wrong that I can live with, but the volume of these are stacking up to the point where I'm begiining to think that overall the Ameo is a heap of junk by comparison!
With the default T-Mobile ROM there is NO benefit whatsoever from having an accelerometer! The 16 GB storage is nice to have but not absolutely essential.
I've noticed some others got fed up with their Athenas. Does anybody have any compelling arguments to change my mind about the Ameo?
x7500 is the way in my opinion.
It's all about the rom. Get a secondhand or new Ameo x7500, unlock it, stick MichyPrima's 5.1 rom on it, get a 16GBsdhc card and off you go.
I was on the verge of ditching my ameo as it was getting old and other new shiney phones are always coming out. But now the MP 5.1 rom has changed all that as my x7500 is now fast as f+?k for most things. I even use it before my laptop at work as it is just better. Here is a list of stuff I do with it. (I'm trying to arrange for my boss to donate to Michy! by the way.)
Geotagged photos
downloading rss podcasts, video and audio
gRemote (works well with Vista on my HDTV)
listening to music,
phone calls (video too) with A2DP headset that switches back to music seemlessly.
Facebook (Snap2face) actually use this for work.
Crosswords
Audio notes
Youtube + Blip.tv
Weather
radio (via wifi)
flashlight (gets bloody dark where I live)
Gps navigation (google maps & TomTom)
Sprit level
Altimeter
File transfere (only thing microdive is good for IMHO)
Alarm Clock
Presentations with video out.
Audiobooks.
Email.
All of this works without a hitch and I charge my phone for 1.5 hours a day, (switched off=way quicker). I have tried many other units including iphone et al and not found anything that comes close. I am a technology advisor for artists in the area so this Ameo gets about 10hrs use a day and has only broke once which was my own stupid fault.
hope this helps.
P.s I never use the keyboard as the on screen is faster.
Thanks Matt. The problem is mine is an x7510 and there is no unlocker available for it.
Worse yet, what little technical info there is on the x7510 is mixed in with lots of detail about the x7500 and x7501, both of which have substantially different hardware.
I was lucky - Olipro's unlocker failed at an early stage and thus didn't brick my x7501. I ran the unlocker because it wasn't made clear anywhere that it is not safe to run on an x7510.
Others weren't so lucky and are now the proud owners of some rather expensive paperweights.
Despite this the admins here don't rate it as an issue at all and refuse to even comment on requests for a seperate x7510 forum under the Athena forum, let alone create it!
The Athena forum leans toward nasty, with various indivuduals having a superior attitude with callous disregard for others. I may not be able to code an unlocker, but I'll give them a right run for their money coding apps that tie Active Directory, Exchange and 3rd party SQL DB's together.
The Uni, Wizard and Elf forums don't suffer so much with bloody overinflated egos.
You know, people must have some SERIOUS self-image issues if they need to constantly "prove" to others just how superior they truly are! Saddos!
Having said that, there are some truly gifted and talented people here who selflessly give and don't have the attitude. Being friendly costs nothing!
Also, it's a bit like a night in a pub: never mind the loud-mouth little pip-squak trying to convince the world what a fighter he is - but watch out for the ones that don't boast!
To be fair, yes I can see benefits the Athena has, but with the exception of the on-board GPS and HSDPA I feel I was far better off with my Uni. Certainly with the Uni there was miles more support and none of the attitude problems. So I may yet sell my Athena and buy another Universal.
I think he meant sell your new one and get an old one.
To be fair most Athena users are busines speople who would have kep it ristiine, so you're pretty likely to pick up an X7500/01 in great condition pretty cheap.
I know what you mean about angry people here, but sometimes people need to be told to shut the f*ck up and search.
And with regards to an X7510 subforum, I think the mods dont see any advantage to it. No top devs have one, so very little chance of hard-spl and therefore custom roms, and o it will just be full of people moaning about having no unlocker.

My advice to you would be to speak with Olinex and Pawel directly and see if you can convince them to come back to this side of the world to do a bit more work with the X7510's. I totally understand your frustration, however I still believe that the X750(x) is still the better way to go for the 7510's. Both because of Hardware and software support. You can get the housing for the 7500's and replacement keyboards on ebay. And as you already pointed out the ability to do ROM updates on the likes of the 750(x)'s. If I were you I wouldn't give up just yet though. But if infact you can't wait then maybe you can trade in the 7510's for the touch HD and join the likes of Pawel and Oli over on that side of the world. I myself have to skip that one though, because their's nothing like my X7501 to date, well I stand corrected the (X7500's) are better.
At work we have the 7510's and to be honest im glad I have the 7500 of my own. the support for the 750* is fantastic on here as you are well aware, but the 7510 is so close yet so far away from it, its just TOO much like the older version to be worth starting over. As already said here you can sell up your 7510 to someone who wants "the up to date model" and replace it with a 7500, then you are away. well that is my veiw for you as well.

Hi Artic Matt, which headset are you using?
I have 5.1 ROM and too much problems with bluetooth stack and a watch MBW 150, maybe because the headset, no the ROM I don't know. But the vibration funcionality of the Jabra is nice for the athena.
anyone mananged to figure out that ap4 and ap5 had a x7510 spl that was a hardspl and then also ap4 and ap5 were made with the x7510 in mind. meaning the hardspl and roms for the x7510 are already there. cmonex might have to correct me but i believe the ap4 rom together with the spl upgrade will give u a hardspl'ed and custom rom run'in x7510.

I thought this process was leading to some bricked 7510s, hence the request for a new subforum...
Plus, are the drivers for the flash drive in there?

LOL br0 and you don't even read the comments to find out? Nope, your just too busy wasting our time LOL but seriously,
This is Adam Katze from Amazon:
I have an HTC HD2 running ChuckyRom Winmo and DarkStone Froyo2.2 with Cyanogenmod 6.1. In Winmo the keyboard works as intended and does essentially what I want it to do. However, when I boot into Android (which I use as my main OS), the keyboard does not work.
The product comes with a CD and what it leads you to believe are the necessary drivers to run the keyboard. I installed the program and then tried running it, only to repeatedly get an error saying the one time registration had failed, and the program closed. After some searching on Google I finally find that the manufacturer hasn't renewed their license with the company that provides the software drivers for the phone. After spending 28 dollars on the keyboard, I find that I now have to pay an additional 10 euros to download the software that the manufacturer claimed would come with the product.
Additionally, I haven't been able to get the keyboard functioning on an Android build that doesn't have Cyanogenmod 6.1 installed, so if you're running a stock phone it seems like you're S.O.L. there too Be aware of this product and the countless other "mini bluetooth keyboards" that are seemingly made by different manufacturers but are all exactly the same product. Using multiple brands for the same product is usually a sign of a disreputable company.
As for the keyboard itself, it's very light and feels sort of cheap, but it is sturdy enough. The power switch is a bit difficult to slide, and the mini-USB port doesn't seem to be very well attached. My power light flickers and turns off frequently while charging, and wiggling the wire around usually brings it back on for a while.
Overall, this is a very cheaply made product, but unfortunately it seems like its the only bluetooth keyboard of its size available at the moment for a reasonable price. If you are running Android, I strongly suggest you DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT.
