Ok...
On my WinMo device I had Microsoft MyPhone on which synced all my messages to their server.
Is there anyway to retrieve these to my Hero that you are aware of?
Thanks
Not that i know of, no.
I very much doubt that there is any way to link the android handsets into the service...and i can't see MS supporting that anyway.
i think i heard something was created on Modaco that might help a bit though....
Have a look here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/a...y-out-the-modaco-windows-mobile-sms-migrator/
but again, until the hero gets rooted, that wont work either...
I hope you can find something soon, or the root gets sorted quickly and easily!
Is that SMS/MMS - There's an app called G-Backup that backs up SMS and MMS (and it can do call log and Camera pics too I think) to labelled folders in Gmail, bypassing the inbox.
They get archived as threaded messages under labels SMS and MMS - you can set the app to back up to gmail every so often, or set it on immediate and it back them up to gmail as they come in.
I've used this for a couple of months, its a crackin app. xx

***Update 10/29/08***
Just found this update, supposedly from someone high up at Microsoft. Seems plausible to me.
***Update 12/1/08***
I "guess" that fix made the problem a little better for me, but it didn't stop the error. The good news is MS has released a fix for the problem.
We'll see...
I'm going the reverse the instructions from the preceeding "fix" (registry edit), delete my current gmail account, soft reset, apply the MS patch, then recreate my account.
***End of update 12/1/08***
If you've used gmail for outgoing email long enough I'll bet you've seen this error while trying to send at some point, which then prevents you from sending any more emails via gmail:
"The message could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again."
I've seen it using many dcd/no2chem roms using gps and non gps radios.
There are loads of "fixes" on various forums that suggest specifying server port numbers, requiring/not requiring SSL, etc. .It's been my experience that only one fix fixes the issue consistently.

Creating this new account with a different name is the only fix I've found that works consistently, at least for a couple weeks.
Status...
I said in the other thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2398125&postcount=82) I would wait to test... Well guess I am not good at waiting.
After recreated with a UNIQUE name it is sending fine. I will see how long it lasts.
Another thread here with some of the setup info.

Yup, I've needed to create unique names from Gmail to Gmail6 before to get messages sent.
Never seems to work for more than a couple weeks.
7-12 thru 7-18... Looks like I am on Gmail02
This is a real pain!
That it is!
All I've been able to do is file an error report with Google.
Sure would be nice if someone knew Pocket Outlook well enough to investigate...
I'm having the same trouble and don't use Google for email.
I monitor 4 accounts with my Tilt and the one that causes me problems is the Exchange account, using IMAP and SMTP. The other 3 IMAP accounts use Courier/Qmail and they have never posed a problem.
I even tried sending my Exchange account email using my Qmail SMTP server and it too triggers the error.
It has gotten to be such a pain in the ass that I'm evaluating FlexMail which works so far, but is a bit slow.
My money is on a problem with Pocket Outlook.

For what it's worth, I use a free app called Seven (http://community.seven.com/) to have my Gmail messages pushed to pOutlook my phone, and I've never encountered this problem that you guys are describing.. and i've been using it for about 8 months now.
Thanks for the tip on Seven. Nice how it runs behind the scenes, preserving Pocket Outlook's interface. Too bad how it'll only retrieve messages < 30 days old, but it'll be a good fix for me if it stops these errors...
Huh, I hadn't noticed that limitation, but now that you mention it, it would be kinda nice to be able to go back in my email history a little further (heck, we've got enough internal storage space for it). Anyway, good luck with it.
There's always native gmail...
I prefer to use native gmail running in GC's Java midlet. With native gmail, you get...
a familiar gmail interface
20MB attachments received right on your 6800
full access to read and modify your contacts
access to your complete gmail history, with search
your gmail labels
THREADED messages!
What's missing? A way for your 68000 to inform you, "You've got mail".
Updated first post.
Does this affect DCD roms or just the stock Verizon one? or both?
omg
I have been tearing my hair out since I have had my phone over this. could not figure it out, only solution was to delete the account and re-add
I will follow and try this
Thanks
Hi - I have a similar issue with gmail. Incoming works perfectly via imap, however outgoing emails do not work at all. I tried the smtp fix patch from MS, changing outgoing smtp.gmail.com to smtp.gmail.com:465 or 587 and it still doesn't work. Also tried to create the account again to no avail.
I used the standard settings on gmail site https://mail.google.com/support/bin/...y?answer=78886 - dunno what I am missing here!! Any help would be nice
I am trying this on a brand new htc diamond.
I am using FlexMail 4 and have never had a problem sending or receiving with gMail IMAP. I can not, either, send emails using ms pocket outlook. I can receive emails just fine. This is a bug in MS Pocket Outlook as described by earlier post.
I "guess" that fix made the problem a little better for me, but it didn't stop the error. The good news is MS has released a fix for the problem.

I don't know if you guys are using 6.1 or not, I just found this thread while googling the error message and found a solution that worked for me.
Here is the official Microsoft patch for this problem and it seems to have worked (at least so far) for me. I just downloaded the cab, my phone restarted, and sending emails works again.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...d2dd-44f2-86e5-1e53aad7fb7a&displaylang=en&tm
Hope that helps.
I was and still am running 6.1 (dcd 3.2.6). After applying that patch I don't get the error as often, but I still get it with gmail and my work IMAP. I haven't had to recreate any accounts since the patch, only a soft reset's required to start sending again. So, for me the patch has been an improvement but not a fix.
To me, a fix here will be the best part about 6.5, assuming they fixed it (I have no idea)...
Thanks all.
Just to say the MS patch seems to have fixed things - this evening at least.
Interestingly, I've got three different gmail-based accounts on my phone. Two of them stopped sending, but the third remained unaffected.
Thanks again!
Does anybody know how to turn off SMS threated mode (conversation) and make it normal like in outlook (just classic view - sorting according to date)? I had android 1.5, than tried 2.2 and 2.1 but i didnt found any option for this. Thanks for help...
Moved to Q&A as not development
Why would you want to go back to the old way? It was clearly worse. One of the greatest change I had from upgrading to a Hero was the conversation mode - just incredible. Why would you want to go back to a situation where you can't see the message you're replying to?
On topic - have you tried Handcent SMS and checked the options? That app is amazing.

thats because its sorted according to date like in Outlook. icould never use outlook with conversation mode in my work becouse it seems to me very chaotic. You only see name and number of sms, so you have to click on contact. Dont know why developers dont give us at least possibility to turn it off. i think its just a matter of small tweak or st....
The individual threads are still sorted by date though. So you still know the latest texts over the older ones, i.e. higher the contacts name the newer the text. You don't have to even look at the older texts as they're hidden in the conversation lists but available if necessary.
As I said Handcent is the most likely program to have this feature.
It's unlikely to be a "small" tweak as it requires splitting your conversations into Inbox & Outbox as well as then having multiple messages for each contact. This is a complete overhaul of the way in which it currently sorts, sends and receives messages.

i dont know if you have experince with windows mobile but for disabling sms conversation i need only 50kb tweak....
I have been using "SMS popup" on my android phones for years now. Never had a problem until I installed it on this new Rezound. The SMS popup comes up when a new text comes in, it just doesnt pull up the person's profile photo as it's supposed to. It's got to be an HTC/Sense issue. I've used SMS popup on AOSP, Samsung Touchwiz, and Team Hacksung's ICS port for the Galaxy S; all of which funtioned properly.
I know I can get handcent but I really like the way this HTC messaging app looks (and its ad-free, unlike handcent). And SMS popup is such a simple way to accomplish the popup on incoming texts and still allow me to use the manufacturer's messaging app.
Has anybody else run into this problem or have any suggestions?
Thanks!
Do you have your contacts linked? Maybe it doesn't know which one to grab...
Alternatively go with Go SMS which is free and does pop up.

Some contacts are linked, some arent. Either way, neither contact photos shows up.
The way my contacts are set up is, I have a google gmail contacts. None of those have any photos in them. Then I also let facebook sync my friends list to my contact list. Some facebook friends also have a google gmail contact equivalent. Those are the ones that are linked.
This is the same way I've always done my contacts on all my other android phones and it's never been a problem. This HTC phone is the first time I've ran across this problem. It's like the SMS popup is calling for a contact photo, but the HTC version of the contact app is calling it by a different name.
Weird, SMS popup works just fine for me pulling up the contact pic using sense etc (innefilibis ROM if that matters)
By the way, I used Handcent for years (with the ads blocked) but this is the first phone I like the stock SMS so much (with red theme bubbles) I didn't even bother installing it.
Hey, folks. I'm new, obviously.
I recently rooted and s-offed my LTEVO. I installed TWRP 2.6.3.0 and CM10.1 Stable (I also installed the exFAT fix). The problem I'm having and that I'm reading a lot of people are having is with MMS. I'm not sure if group messaging falls into MMS or SMS but I can neither send/receive picture or media messages, nor can I SEND group messages (although I can receive them). I'm not sure what's going on behind the scenes, whether there's a fix that I just haven't found (I have done extensive searching/trolling before making a profile to ask this question) or if this is a common issue which may have been resolved in newer builds. Essentially, I was wicked pumped when I found out that I could receive group messages from people because the stock, unrooted LTEVO would receive "multimedia messages" from everyone participating in the conversation individually instead of all within the same thread or whatever you wanna call it. But, as I've come to find out, I can't actually participate in these group sessions, I can only SEE them organized within one text thread (which is still better than stock, but disappointing that it doesn't take one seemingly essential step further). Also, I thought it was just crappy Sprint service, but it seems that I can't send or receive multimedia messages (that aren't in text form). I was excited, again, to see that the preview of the image I was going to send was minimally compressed, if at all. I was sick of sending people screenshots of blurry, illegible caca, but again this feature falls short and now I can't actually send or receive any form of media.
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong, or maybe what I'm just NOT doing right. At any rate, if anyone could shed some light on my unfortunate situation that'd be stellar. I'm forced to use Voxer for the time being.
I'm having the same problem. Any assitance is welcome!
I can't say I completely understand your issue but will give an answer with my best guesstimate as to a fix.
You are trying to group messages with others that have iPhones. iPhones natively send texts as mms while android natively sends as sms. Hence your problem (I think).
You need to use a third party messaging app. There are a couple that handle this but I use Go Sms Pro. It allows you to send and receive texts all while staying in the group without splitting the messages.
Once you install go sms pro you need to change a few settings in the app (you can find the correct group settings on Google easily) and disable the notifications from the stock messaging app (so you don't get multiple notifications for one text).
Hope this is what you were asking about as it is an issue for a lot of people.

I have been using an old GO SMS version up to now, being very careful not to update it since they have removed the one feature I kept it for, the inbox. I sincerely hate the threaded stuff, I have hated it since it first came in Windows Mobile, and then on the HD2 and up. Pansi was great, but didn't work anymore because updating stopped. I have no interest at all browsing a box where I see the messages I have sendt, I want it to be like a mail program, not a social media thing (I don't even have Facebook or other social media...). So is there a non-threaded/unthreaded/inbox style SMS app out there? I have spent an hour on Play to find it, but failed.
I've used about every SMS app that's out there and I don't recall this being an option. Lemme just clarify though as it seems like an odd request to me (no offense - not odd bad, just odd different). You want an SMS app that only shows their messages to you, but not yours to them? If that's so, the only half assed work around I could think of would be one that has the ability to theme all components of the message and make the out going messages blend in to the background.
So you haven't been around very long, then? That was the only way until around 2008 for smartphones, when Windows Mobile 6 came with threaded messages. Until now there's always been apps that supports it. Basically I want an SMS app that doesn't use threaded messaging, so I can go into an inbox and see the messages I have received, not the one I have sendt, yes. But blending in doesn't help, the main thing isn't the separate "conversations", it's the separate inbox where I only see the text of messages I have received, nothing else. So just like the inbox of MS Office Outlook, if that helps. Or like K9 mail for Android, if that tells you more. I just don't see why what's widely considered the efficient way to do things in mail is so different in SMS. Almost all mail programs has one inbox and one sendt box.
