I've got a new SD card to replace the original 2GB one, but what do I need to do to migrate data across? I have copilot installed which holds data on there.
Should I copy the whole folder structure to my PC, then copy this to my new card?
I would love to know the answer on this too. I assume just copying everything across would work though.
I done this when i got a new 4gb sd card. i had copilot on the old 2gb and just copied over. copilot had to set up again as it was a new phone but it remembered my transaction ID and all the maps i had installed
Yeah, on the PC
create a new folder and open the window -
Next open the window for your current SD Card (either in fone via USB or take it out and do it via card reader)
Select All in the old card window and then drag accross to the new folder window, then minimise
Now put in the new card, open it's window
Select all the stuff from the 2GB card in the new folder window and drag across.
You DEFINATELY want to keep all folders and folder structures, and this is the easiest way. I usually keep the stuff on the littler card for a bit til I'm sure its all worked OK.
Dayz
Excellent, thanks Daisy.

This is just strings and ids miss matches. Try it. It says that but you check the gallery and they are there. I may stock updating 3minit frameworks for this project until T-Mobile updates the firmware. You guys have no idea, thousands of lines of code to rewrite.... There will be a few miss matches. Everything works perfect though. Besides the mentioned long press menu.

Hey guys and gals - i've read about the hidden files on the Evo 3d's SD card. Can anyone tell me exactly how to 'view' them in order to transfer everything to my new 32gb card coming soon please. I've searched and saw to go to tools and to view hidden content or files etc, yet when i go to tools on the drive i see nothing of the sort. Any and all help is appreciated
*when i look in the data folder the green hornet movie and all files associated w/ it are in there, so maybe the files are not hidden on my device for some reason? just a thought*

I'm on Windows XP so it might be different for you but what to do to view hidden folders/files within another drive/disk is:
-Start > My Computer, then select your drive (E:, F:, etc).
-Hit the tab at the top labeled Tools > Folder Options > then the tab that says View.
-Look for the box labeled 'Advance Settings' then make sure you click on the option that says 'Show hidden files and folders'. Then go back and see if the hidden folders appear. That should do it and I don't think the instructions can be too different across XP/7. Sorry if this doesn't help at all!
Thanks, i am a fairly new windows7 user coming from xp. Your instructions did help, in windows7 had to go to ORGANIZE->FOLDER & SEARCH OPTIONS->VIEW->SHOW HIDDEN FILES
Don't really notice much difference (didnt really know what to look for that was missing anyway LOL hope this makes changing to a 32gb card smoother!

Haha I feel you! I just moved to a 16 gig yesterday and had to do the same thing. Glad I could help.
another quick way is go to orb and in search type in folder options on windows 7 pops right up .
Can you help me? My files on SD card are not totally hidden. But whenever I check the properties to see how much amount my files consumed, there's a big difference.
Here's what I did. I open the SD card, select all files and check the properties, which is 1.9 gb in size, but 3.08 gb on size on disk. Another thing is that under computer where my SD card is in f: drive it says "25.5 gb free of 29.7 gb".. I am worried that my SD card have some important files which are hidden, but I don't know what to do. I want to reformat my SD card, but I want to make sure that I have backup all the files. Please help me!
I have a new 16GB SD card that I want to put in my Evo3D.
Is there anything I need to transfer over to make it work? or does the phone create all the folders/files on start up?
Thanks!

The phone will create all the folders and items needed, which are very minimal.
If there is any issue, i.e. new card didn't come formatted correctly, android will prompt when you insert it to have it formatted.
If you miss the prompt, or it doesn't provide the prompt and you still want to format, its available under Settings->SD & Phone Storage -> Erase SD card.
Congrats on the new purchase. I'm still at 8 and need to upgrade one of these days...especially with these large nandroids and ROMs. Hope that helps!

Thanks! Thats what I thought but wanted to make sure. Much appreciated!
This is my second full day with the phone and I am loving it. Not rooted yet, I think I will wait a bit.
odd
so, i wanted to upgrade my card, too.
16gb class 10.
copied the contents onto my desktop.
copied them on the new card.
however, just for kicks...i went into settings to play w/ the erase contents of sd card toggle.
nothing.
any idea why if it's an option you can't actually do it?
does one have to unmount it first?
thanks in advance...
So I got my 32 GB card today. I plugged in my phone copied my external sd stuff to a new folder, switched cards then copied the folder contents on to the new card. I also transferred some pictures from the internal memory to the new card. Now many of my apps claim to be not installed any more. I never did use anything like apps2sd or anything like that. I figured it would work for me to keep internal for apps and external for media.
Thoughts, ideas?

let me guess, you copied the files and folders with windows explorer? if so then you missed the hidden folders that start with a dot (.) which holds the apps that are/were installed to sd..
If u still got the old card and havent formatted it yet you can still copy them, just enable "show hidden files" in windows explorer (google it) and copy them.

Mac OSX. Still don't remember installing any apps to sd, unless the apps themselves did it. I don't have any directories, etc that I copied or moved that pertains to the apps

So I put the old card back and the apps are working, so that is good news. Next step is I am creating a disk image from the old card (disk utility ftw) and I will use that to restore on to the new one, making it a carbon copy.
Hopefully this works
Slow process!

Now that I have everything working again, I'll be sure to do a backup before I break everything. Since it's been a couple weeks since I did one, I am relieved that I didn't have to restore
so the deal here is that i wanted to put a 16gb sd from 8gb that i was using. i had the old sd card (8gb) in my phone, i copied the whole thing on my computer's hard drive. put the new one in my phone, then formatted, then copied back everything from the computer.
Now, i only see 129 apps on the phone out of 285 i used to have. most of the apps i used to have were moved to sd using apps2sd.
i tried searching but i found results regarding how to backup before using new sd, or how to format etc. if i got blind for some reason and have missed the thread can someone please direct me to the right thread? or else can someone please help me that how can i get those apps back?
thanks for any kind of help.
P.S, not rooted.

According to me , you have the hidden files and folder disabled on your PC. So enable it, the from your old sdcard(8gb) copy a folder named ".android_secure" and put it in 16GB, then check again if that worked.

Thanks for reply, will try this..
If you do that you may be subjected to random freezes, lockups, etc. Not saying this for a 100% but usually that's the case. When you install apps and run them certain apps place folders on your sd card that are linked to the app. Also if you move apps to your sd VIA program/mod they are stored in the android_secure folder located on your sd card. When you format, move, alter, etc the folder from the sd or alter the contents inside of the .android_secure folder you remove/break the links, and just dropping the folder back on the SD will work but in most cases it dosent restore the links correctly from my understanding. IMO your best bet is to just uninstall the apps you had moved to your sd and then reinstall them. Also for future reference don't move or alter the
.android_secure folder folder if you have a nandroid that has some of the apps you installed moved to the sd. This is just my understanding. Hope this helps

use a linux based system to copy the files and folders over...it overtakes the permissions left behind in a windows format

thanks for the solution. but i dont have linux based system nor do i know anything about it, been with windows since 98..
I just upgraded to a SanDisk 32gb from my old 8gb and now i am missing a lot of my apps. They show in the app drawer, but when i try to open them i get the error that the app is not installed.
Here is what i did, hoping i could save everything.
1. I removed my 8gb card and copied everything to my pc.
2. Then i inserted the new card and copied all the old files to it.
3. I inserted the new sd card into my s5 with the power off on the device.
4. Booted the phone, and the apps show in the drawer, but upon opening the apps i get the message that the app is not installed.
Any help?
Ps> sorry guys that i haven't been around much this month. I had to fire 4 employees of mine over a two week span and pick up their work.
I will try to be more active, for those that missed me. Hehe

You are making an erroneous assumption that a file by file copy would save you from having to reinstall apps. An sector by sector image would have been a better approach. One of the descrepancies between the old card and new is apparently leading the OS to conclude that the installed app files are no longer available.
It might be tied to a volume serial number or erroneous path, etc. But my guess would be that you missed copying a hidden system directory. In any event, try again or reinstall the apps.
.
Thanks for the response @fffft , i already formatted the old sd card and gave it to a buddy that has an s4 and had memory issues, with his kids installing every game they can find. Lol. I see a hidden folder that contains about 1.86 gb of data that looks like the files that i am missing, it seems that it was just copied to a different place on the new sd card, im trying to place it correctly, but if it doesn't work then i will just reinstall.
Thanks again.
