[APP][9-08-2009] URL2Opera V1.0 - Associate .url files to Opera - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

As strange it might be OperaL.exe does not accept a .url file as command line parameter. Therefore, it is not possible to simply associate .url files to Opera and open them with it.
URL2Opera is a small programs that extracts the URL from the .url file and passes it to Opera. This way the association became possible.
Requirements and compatibility.
.NET Compact Framework 2 is required. For any other requirement and compatibility you tell me. I am not a professional mobile developer and I can only test on my phone, a HTC Diamond2 (Topaz) with WM6.1
Install
Run URL2Opera.cab. Could be installed in main memory or storage card but main memory is advisable.
Uninstall
Use Remove Programs in Settings.
Usage
Tap the .url file in Explorer. Opera should start and open the .url target page.
USUAL LEGAL DISCLAIMER
Use URL2Opera at your own risk! NO WARRANTY! Although running this application does not seem to produce any damage on my phone, I take no responsibility for any kind of damage or major or minor inconvenience caused to devices or data or person or whatever else due to this application and its usage.

Finally! It works on my topaz. Now i can put .url on SPB and open urls direct with opera 9.5!
Thank you for your lite app

Great! Solves many problems thx !

Cheers,

Thank you so much for this app. It solved a problem that I have been asking about but nobody knew the answer - How to place a shortcut to a url on the SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 desktop that will open in Opera. I appreciate your solution to this. It works great!!!

Ciao oruaM!
Funziona perfettamente sul mio Touch HD (Blackstone) con Opera 9.7.35523.0
Finalmente una soluzione definitiva. GRAZIE!!

Hi oruaM!
Your app runs like a charme on my Touch HD (Blackstone) and Opera 9.7.35523.0
Finally a definitive solution. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

Doesn't work with this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=721438!
Edit: It works after installing Opera 10 over the included Opera 10.

unhappy that it doesn't work on my installed Opera 10 which has a filename "Opera10-armv4i.exe"

Nice!
This works, nice work!
Is there an easy way to make the associated icons for the url links on your device change from IE to an Opera icon??

Q: default java network download settings

Hi All,
So I flashed to Cloudyfa's Shadow touch edition. Love it. I was using transformer previously.
I noticed when loadiing java apps (specificall opera mini) that the default option for accessing the network is "yes, ask me next time", vs. how it was in transformer "yes, ask me next session".
I really liked the way it was in transformer since I can just mash the "ok" button instead of having to change the selection everytime I start opera mini from scratch. I was looking if there was a configuration file or a registry key that sets this. Anyone know of how to change this option in esmertec java?
Thanks!

Well, you might like to launch opera mini directly with a Opera-Mini-shortcut without network-accessing-question >> http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-...ed-includes-info-new-java-midlet-manager.html
Making a direct shortcut to Opera Mini (or any other Java Midlet)
Since Opera Mini is a Java Midlet application, one annoying aspect is that to run Opera Mini, you must first run the Java Midlet, tap on the "Applications" list item, then tap on the "Opera Mini 4 beta" item. Luckily, some industrious users out there have figured out how to create a shortcut that launches Opera Mini (or any other Java app) directly. Assuming you haven't installed any other Java apps, you need to create a shortcut file (e.g., opera.lnk) pointing to ("\windows\jeodek.exe" -run s1_), or ("\windows\jbed.exe -run s1_"), if using Jbed instead.
Bypass network-access-security "only for Jbed": (to see all the content click here >> http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-...-info-new-java-midlet-manager.html#post656281
Just copy your \windows\appdb\selector.utf file into the same directory on your PC where the Fix.exe file is (within the attached zip) and run Fix.exe.
It will create a new selector.utf and backup your original as selector.bak.utf You can then overwrite your PPC's version.
If you don't trust the executable, you can always use your own hex editor to do the same thing. It's kinda big for a very small action, that's because it was written in Perl then repackaged into an exec. Source is also attached.
Note: by doing this, you can launch opera mini with Esmertic Jbed in devices whose local settings are set for non-wastern-countries.
Good luck!
Thanks for the link iiiox,
But I tried it and esmertec java still prompts me with a prompt before accessing the net.
Maybe I should ask cloudyfa since it's a specific difference between his roms...
anyone else know what I'm talking about?

HTC S740 many Question!

Hello Friends,
Yesterday i got my NEW HTC S740 smartphone! I have to say that i'm really newbie to smartphones but i love this phone!!
I found all the features of the phone and i have to say that i'm very pleased with it! My problem is that i can't - fear to connect the phone to my computer!!
When i insert the cd of HTC in my computer it asks me to download Flash player. I download flash player and then i install it on my computer but i still can't open the cd!! Also i have installed Active Sync 4.5 on my pc! What i wanna ask is, can i connect the S740 on my pc with only Active Sync 4.5 or i have to install the program of HTC (the one i can't find because i don't have flash player)?? How can i fix the problem with flash player?
thanks in advance
My Activesync has probs with Vista
Not sure if this helps but from memory my activesync didnt work with vista and I needed some other syncing software for vista. I found it pretty easy so do a google search on syncing problems here.
I now sync my TYTN2 to my iMac and it works great as the iTunes all come across with no probs.
Enjoy
My friend i have XP! What about the problem with flash player? Why i can't read the cd?
In fact, if you've installed ActiveSync, you don't need anything else from the CD (maybe except User's Guide from the second disk). It contains (packed in Flash animations) just sync programs and few links. Anyway, if so curious, try to explore the CD and run start.exe directly from there...
Working ActiveSync should sit (greyed) now in the System Tray on the right side of the XP's bottom Taskbar. Right click over the icon and choose Connection Settigs... On following dialog first check the box Allow USB Connection.
When you'll connect your Rose to the machine now, it will start working without hassles. If any problems, first check the manual and if lost anyway, let us know again.
Ok i will try to connect with Active Sync!
WOW it worked!! thank you my friend!! Does the cd contain anything else useful?
Not really... Just links to WM 6.1 Home on Microsoft... Have a look there on TotalAccess, they're some freebies avalable.
On little trick for other places - open the connection dialog (as above) again and have a look, if the last box (Allow wireles...) is UNchecked. If so, hanged on USB your Rose will connect to internet trougth PC - it's faster and 100% "free".
And have a look on your built-in mobile favourites on Rose - you'll find a HTC page with few links. One little warning - you'll find there a link to Adobe FlashLiite, which does not work on Rose... Good tip is to check Google Maps application and maybe SkyFire (alternate browser with YouTube support).
As Pocket Internet Explorer tends to ignore WiFi connection, alternate browser is good to have anyway. Another, very solid option is Opera Mini. Just be aware - it's Java application. After installation you'll find it in Java console (it's in Accessories folder).
Enjoy!
thank you me friend for giving me these useful tips! It's really helpfull and will help me understand better my smartphone!!
P.S. How can i see youtube and generally streaming videos on my S740? I visited youtube but i couldn't watch videos!!
Until Adobe will understand, that WM 6.1 Standard has no limitations in that (the FlashLite just denies to install), as far as I know, the only way I see is the SkyFire browser as mentioned above. Just read Privacy statement on their site first, you'd probably not like info they're collecting...
Oh ok! And something last...
I want to buy an extra card because i need more space! What kind of card does it take?? Micro sd or Mini sd?? Confusing!
Micro. Don't be confused, on commercial photos they look the same, because usually sold with adapter in Mini size (micro is then just delivered inserted in the adapter).
Crossfingers with inserting card into the slot as this is only thing which drove me insane on early beginning...
Therefore I would recommend you the largest possible card to avoid a need to change it. As Rose supports the latest standards of SD Cards, you can use any size up to 32GB. Speed of the card isn't really critical - major snail in file operations is Windows Mobile file system. But this is area of little wizardry, because it depends on size, brand etc. With hight probability the most critical operation from this POV is video capturing by built-in camera.
So my recommendation is - don't spend money for useless speed, prefere size (otherwise you'll after few changes of cards in the slot throw Rose against the wall ;-) ). And if possible, just for sure, try to record some video on the card in highest size first directly in the shop and you'll see...
So, what i need is a Micro Sd card 32GB? Right?
Yeap. First word of my previous post...
Obviously, smaller sizes works as well and some (1-2 gigs) are today sold for nothing...
Maybe it's time to open 2nd CD with the manual (promise - no flash, just PDF file). I understand first confusions if somebody meets first Windows Mobile phone and enthusiasm (especially in combination WM + Rose ;-) ) should be supported.
Nevertheless in this stage manual would be faster than me (leaving for single malt "dinner" with friends ).
Ok my friend. Thank you for all your help! I will open the manual!!

Opera Redirect - Use other browsers with Touch Flo 3D

I'm a fan of the Iris Browser from Torch Mobile. Seriously, it's a much better browser. But I've always hated that TF3D can't be configured to use it. Well now it can be.
Opera Redirect replaces OperaL.exe and allows you to configure which browser to launch when TF3D needs to connect to the net. You configure it through a simple to use control panel applet and can switch at any time.
IMPORTANT make sure you backup the file "OperaL.exe" from your \Windows directory before installing OperaRedirect. This file will be replaced upon installation of the cab and can't be restored. You have been warned.
Known Bugs:
Once install, Opera no longer functions!
No proper uninstall
Alternate Browsers MUST be install in their default paths and in main memory
Sometimes upon install, the applet doesn't show in the settings | system menu until after a reboot.
ToDo:
Copy OperaL.exe during installation and fixup the shortcut so Opera can remain functional
Add support for manually editing the browser to launch
Let me repeat: IMPORTANT make sure you backup the file "OperaL.exe" from your \Windows directory before installing OperaRedirect. This file will be replaced upon installation of the cab and can't be restored. You have been warned.

No idea. It should if Manila 2D launches the same exe for Opera.
Thank you. Works just as described. Now I get Skyfire to launch with tf3d.
we're on the same boat.. i just converted from Opera to Iris fan few minutes ago after experiencing Iris v1.1.7 just now... i saw your post in Iris blog and i'm downloading your cab.. i hope it works fine on my HTC Touch Pro WM6.5 Shep's ROM
Nice work bro
works great!
posting with it now
Sadly, Opera Redirect does not work with a Topaz / Touch Diamond 2. I would really like to open Iris browser with the TouchFlo Internet tab. Opera redirect's setup only sees Internet explorer, not Iris.....
Did you install Iris in to the default location?
Hi Joe; It seems a mod has removed all of my messages instead of the last one only First I would like to thank You for developing Opera Redirect. I hope I can ask You some things about it:
I managed to get Iris going. I can invoke Iris from the TouchFlo Internet tab. In my Dutch ROM, the default install path is "Programmabestanden\Iris Browser". So moved the Iris Browser folder to "Program Files" instead of "Programmabestanden". Opera Redirect could now see Iris and set it as default. The only thing is that if I start Iris from the Internet tab by tapping the globe, it opens with an address line in the top of the window that shows "about:blank", with a little button "Go" in the left top corner. Rest of the screen is grey and left... blank. If I fill in something in the search bar above the globe, and tap the spyglass, Iris starts and performs a scan with Google, which I set as home page, and directly displays the search results. I really would love to see that when I tap the globe, Iris starts and displays my home page instead of the about:blank page. Are You familiar with this? Also when I soft reset my device, Iris starts automatically since I set up Opera Redirect & Iris.
Hope You can point me in the right direction,
regards,
André
if anyone manages to download it from rapidshare, could they post as an attachment, it's only 16KB, then you don't have to screw with:
"This file can only be downloaded by becoming a Premium member. There are no more download slots available for free users right now."
I HATE RAPIDSHARE
EDIT:
attached the original cab off of rapidshare, enjoy!
I love this program, I installed in on my Touch hd, needed to update .net framework but then it worked fine, but it doesn't seem to have support for Opera 10 Beta, It would be nice that this could be possible because it is so much better than the old opera.
Any help from someone?
I took came here to make opera 10 my TF3D defaut (that opera 10 is AMAZING, not thing like all the others, untill Fennec comes out)
1) Cannot select opera 10
2) I have to click twice for IE to launch, to be more precise, it launches One in Two. Weird
Otherwise, great great app
Ok I found a way to get opera 10 Working!
Just install rename the Opera 10 folder in Program Files Skyfire and rename the Opera10-armv4i.exe to Skyfire.exe
Still when I select the Earth icon in tf3d, it opens Opera 10 one out of two times...i really have to figure that one out :/
EDIT: I take that back, it doesnt do the one one two thingy with opera 10. Perfect, that whole opera 9 forced on me really bothered me.

Great Work Man!
I would ask for one very small change that I would gladly make a donation for, and that I believe would address a fairly large niche that it otherwise lost;
people using cooked roms on X1 like 'Touch-it Xperience'.
Your program is the only thing among a sea of suggested regedits that can redirect my browser, nothing else works.
The small change I humbly request is for the program to recognize Opera 10 in it's default storage card path:
"\Storage Card\Program Files\Opera Mobile\Opera10-armv4i.exe"
Please !

New apps available: Time Synchronizer, File Editor, TouchPaint, Capture Tool, Securit

I released some new apps on www.touchxperience.com, I will release more when I will have some time... Those apps are still beta, let me know if you have any suggestion for future versions.
Regarding TouchXperience itself, the dedicated thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=631672
Time Synchronizer
Time Synchronizer allows you to sychronize your device clock with an Internet time server (using SNTP, Daytime Protocol and Time Protocol via TCP/UDP), but also with GPS satellites and cellular network. It is very easy to use: tap an icon to retreive time from the desired source, then tap Synchronize to adjust your system time. Time Synchronizer supports time zones, the time displayed is your local time. You can use any Internet time server, there are predefined addresses of well-known servers. Not all time servers support Daytime Protocol and Time Protocol, SNTP is more accurate.

You can use different kinds of tools/shapes (pen, brush, eraser, line, rectangle, triangle,...) with any color. It may be useful for example to draw a sketch when you don't have a sheet of paper with you, to draw a diagram and send it via e-mail, or simply to amuse children.

do you think that a additional install of .NET 3.5 would fix this "not properly integrated" issue?

I can't get to your site. It tries to load indefinitely, as if it was looping. You may want to clear your browser's cache and try again.
Maybe your site is being attacked or blocked by your ISP.

[UTIL][SYNC TOOL]MobSync Vers 2.0.3[SHARWARE]

I was searching around for a sync tool that would simply allow me to synchronise my camera and video files from my HTC Leo. I found this shareware application which does this and much more.
Synchronise any folder from or to your PC and WM device using your Activesync Connection.
Despite being Japanese in origin, the interface is in simple english and extremely easy to use.
Many of you may already be aware of this, but I thought it merited a dedicated thread.
The authors website and download links can be found here..MobiSync Website.
Registration after a 30 day trial costs $8, so great value.
Thread moved to Dev&Hacking - Apps&Games.
it's not freeware it is shareware
MobSync is a software allowing any file folder synchronization from the PocketPC onto the desktop--synchronization which cannot be done with ActiveSync(or Vista).
Supported ActiveSync4.5. or Vista
Trial time is 30 days. There is no function limitation.
Another solution is goodsync http://www.goodsync.com/ which can sync mot just mibole device but also sync sftp, ftp webdrive etc...... Not a freeware
Correction
I apologise, first post corrected.
Registration
I have now registered MobSync and the license cost $8, so it is great value.
I have been using this for a while and it is a great sync app. If you want a freeware version then you can try v0.94. However I found this didn't have the great functionality that I needed so bought v2.0.3. For a few £'s you can't go wrong - I know my documents are always up to date on my TP2, and if I change them, will update back on my PC.

Can you tell us exactly what functionality is lacking in the freeware version 0.94? You write "it didn't have the great functionality of v 2.0.3" (which is shareware).
I (and probably other readers) would liek to know--exactly what is that "great functionality" that is in 2.03, but lacking in 0.94?
Both will sync your files, correct?
I know with the pay version you can specify multiple folders and also filters for which files you want to sync. Also you can specify how to sync (copy new files, exact copy, keep same as...) this is all the functionality I use, and I know at least some of that was missing on the free version. It's been a long time since I used the free version, and it would be better you install it and see if it does everything you want. If not, give the shareware version a go, I think you can trial it.
