GPS Problems - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

Hi all (excuse me for my bad english)
I know that many people have GPS problems with the Raphael. So do i. After having read many thread's I havn't got the sollution yet.
2 months ago I flashed my MDA Vario IV back to the original T-Mobile Rom. This action was not succesful because this ROM was very slow and anoying. The only nice thing was that TomTom did work after waiting some 2 a 4 minutes to get a Fix.
Now I flashed the Raphael back to EnergyROM Warhawk, August 11th 2009 WWE, and i must say that the performance is great! A very nice rom, stable and fast. Except for GPS fix. No navigation possible. Not with Google Maps, TomTom, and even the HTX GPS tooling (I can see 6 to 7 sattelites, but no fix possible).
Before I'm going to spend many and many of hours reading threads (again) about GPS problems, can someone tell me what to do to fix the GPS fix problem? Is it the Radio Rom? and so, whitch Radio Rom do I need to use for Use in europe (Netherlands). Do I need to go back to the T-Mobile shop and let them fix it? Are there other sollutions to fix the problem?
(PS: 1,5 year ago when I bought the Raphael the first 2 or 3 times there were no GPS problems at all, after using it for ssveral times the problem occured)
I Hope someone can help me, Please advice...
Best regards,
A. Donker

I can tell you that there are no problems with the GPS in the NRG Warhawk ROM, since I use the same ROM on a Raphael /AT&T Fuze and it works fine for me.
That said tho, it does take a while for the Fuze to get it's 'first fix', since it needs to download all the ephemeris data and the satellite almanac before it can start operating. In some cases, depending upon your location, this can take up to 12 minutes to occur.
My best suggestion is to use the Chartcross GPS application on the NRG Rom and watch as it gathers and assimilates the satellite data. I know it seems like a long time, but it WILL get that first fix. Once it does that, subsequent use of the GPS will get a fix VERY QUICKLY.

Try another one

Hello adonker
I just want to said that probably the problem is the gps software or the radio? I have the EnergyROM Warhawk, August 11th 2009 WWE and with iGo8 i get a fix in about 7,8 minutes, some times more but with nDrive 9 (the best gps software in the moment) i get a fix in max in about 5, 10 seconds. Try with another different gps software just to make sure

Thanx for the reply,..
I just downloaded the GPS hotfix from the HTC website,.. And guess: The fix is there in less than 10 sec.
This i found very strange because I dit apply'd this fix many times before without any succes. Maybe because the radio is nog different (Newer?)
Patch found at: http://www.htc.com/nl/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=140&act=sd&cat=all
Hope this helps other people...

A. Donker

I had the same problem with my Touch Pro. This fixed it:

thank you all for this information. ive also had GPS problems after flashing from stock AT&T Fuze ROM... I will try these solutions.

Upgrading Australian XDAII

I am using RomVer:1.60.00WWE 12/3/03 RadioVer: 1.08.00 ExtRomVer:1.60.44. Could anyone give me a suggestion on what upgrade I can place on my XDAII? I run copilot live on it and works well but battery life is crap.
Can I install the XDA Developers rom or will it not work with the Australian XDAII version???
 THANKS
O2 Asia has a 1.66 ROM, which seems to be on all of the devices that have been bought recently. I had it put on mine when I had it repaired last week. I havent noticed any major differences between 1.60 and 1.66 and when I called O2, they said the only differences were that some extra carriers details were added to the AutoConfig tool. I think there were a couple of minor changes too, but nothing great.
I haven't tried any of the Xda Dev's ROM's, but there is no reason why they wouldn't work. You will be voiding your warranty by aplying them though.
HTH's

THANKS
WIth the setup I have at the moment I find that there are a few bugs like system hanging a lot.
is there a place where I can download ready made roms for the XDAII?
I have just installed Omega1 Batterypack2003 and I am having issues with it. the program keeps hanging and I have to soft reset the device for it to start again. Is anyone familiar travroute and a bluetooth gps. And tweaks or problems they are having.
I can not get updates for the maps in australia as the site takes me to the overseas updates
Any help would be great.

GPS is not working on xv6800 + dcd 3.0.1

I've gone through the steps as been precisely articulated in the wiki on seting up the dcd 3.0.1 on a verizon. My phone is working now after a few minutes with Verizon tech. But for some strange reason I can't get the GPS to work. I tried using the google maps but it doesn't lock the satelite at all. Is there a specific settings that I must do? Or a special program I need to install? Please help!!! I've searched on the forum and everybody said their not having problems with the 3.0.1. Thanks for the help
I've used wififofum and still got no fix on GPS. What do you think is the problem here? Please some one help!
Just to be clear that you did flash the spring radio...3.35....Try using holux gpsveiwer(they show if you are trying to get satelites) and see if you are actually trying to get a fix

1st - Read TalynOnes EXCELLENT internal gps FAQ Post here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363431
2nd - If it still doesnt work, try cooking a new rom and reflashing. I dont know why it should be so, but it does work sometimes. I have flashed a cooked rom with exactly the same options and one works with gps and the other doesnt. There is a lot of variability with the titan units when it comes to the operability of the internal gps unit so you might have a dud. But I thought that too at times, but a reflash and a studious look at the post above has made my gps work "almost" perfectly.

Can a cooked ROM help GPS

I am using ROMeOS and can only get GPS to connect 1 out of 20 tries. It is beginning to look like It is a hardware issue since so many people are having trouble and they all have different situations-different ROMS.
Is there a particular ROM that is having luck with GPS?
Hi,
there are several threads on the GPS issue. It's not hardware. Search for "HTC GPS Tool" and run that. It will get a lock within a few minutes and after that your other programs should be fine.
I have switched to NATF's ROM and am having better luck. If it is not a hardware issue than I bet one of the cooked ROMs is better than another for GPS.
What I dont know is how well a particular ROM works with GPS. I could flash every ROM and find out for myself, I could read all 200 posts in every cooked ROM thread to see if anyone is having good/bad luck with GPS or I could ask;
"Is there a particular ROM that is having luck with GPS?"
I'll go first. I am now using NotATreoFan's ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444784 and am now locking on to GPS with in 1 to 5 minutes.
Any other ROMs working better for GPS?
I am using PROven's 1.03 and get the lock every time in about 10 seconds (with latest iGO).
I applied some tweaks mentioned in GPS lag threads.
I've used both NATF and ROMeOS and both I get a lock within a 1 minute if that much. Before I ran HTC GPS Tool, it took a very long time to get a lock. After I ran it, I can now get a lock in TT very quickly. I also get a lock in Google Maps fairly quickly.
One other thing I did do was within the WinMo Systems, there's an External GPS setting. I changed the hardware port from Com4 to Com1. Not sure if that helped also. Give that a shot.

calling out the greatest cookers her on XDA

My idea is if the gps is working fine on the htc hd2.
Is it possible to cook those files and software in a rom for the raphael.
And then look if the raphael gets a faster gps fix without 3de party software or other tricks.
This is just an idea of my to try it out and watch what happens.
So if you like this idea can you try this out in your new rom ?
Thank you already
Do you think that 10-30 seconds is too long for a GPS fix? That's how fast is GPS fix on my Raph.
If it is 10 -30 sec a would be happy.
I would get nothing or i would wait 1h 30m.
It's very annoying if i have a fix and then it is gone again.
I have used a lot of programs registery tricks or other tweaks roms and radio's but i won't work for me.
I am using the gps for walking in the forest so i can get my way back.
Several times i was lost and needed to find my way back on my own.
And it won't hurt to try this out.
If this works out with the htc hd2 files and programs other cooks can use those files in there roms.
Check your radio number, then install suitable rilphone to it and then use QuickGPS
Currently getting GPS location under 30 seconds consistently by directly starting google maps.
Using:
Latest Energyrom 10/29
Radio 1.14.25.35 with corresponding rilphone.dll
I've never found any benefit to using 3rd party apps except maybe for enjoying the beautiful screen gpstest shows for 5 minutes before it even starts to work.
There are rare times when I can't get a gps lock with google maps when i actually tried gpstest only to realize that it can't get a lock either.
One thing you can try is to simply run quickgps before you use gps...especially if you're in a new area.
Seems like in the woods (geocaching), the GPS really fails to track anything. If you move slower than 1mph, it really doesn't update your location, and you can be walking for a mile. Walk faster and it'll find your location lickety split.
I get a fix in about 15 seconds on the second floor of my house with my Raphael. It just hates tracking when you're walking slow. :/

Interesting... Now I know why my raph gets a fix faster when in a moving car, rather than when I sit at home
And yes, running QuickGPS before Google Maps really helped me a lot...
So that is why i can't get a fix in the woods i need to move fast really fast to get a fix.
So raphael gps is only useable in my car.
But what will happen if whe use the htc hd2 gps drivers on the raphael ?
If this makes the raphael gps better why not trying it out?
I would like to port it to the raphael but i don't have the know how to do it.

Those drivers won't work on your device. The hardware is different. I can't even use Topaz GPS drivers on my device without breaking GPS completely.
Thank you captain for your answer.
So i now know it won't work because of the hardware now i can spend the time on something else.

New radio 0000.0321 observations

Just to let you all know how I have found this new radio on my TG01
I have tried changing to this radio with various roms but with no luck, however using Mirlog's new MiROM1_rel. 5 with this radio cooked into the rom I have not had any ARM FATAL messages.
I have also noticed that since using this rom the gps start-up is almost instant without having to use GpsMod. Previously on both 0016 and 0017 radio the gps would take a good 10mins to get a fix without GpsMod so good news
But I have also noticed that on this radio both with GpsMod and without after 10-20mins use the gps stops and does not restart. If I exit and restart IGo then it works for a few minutes and stops again and if I soft reset it works again for a bit longer but stops again so bad news
Call quality is better than previous versions but not brilliant however the quality is consistent no matter who I call so this is better overall
Mobile internet is faster, browsing sites, downloading and sending emails zips along now compared to before. I have to be honest and say I have not measured the speed but it is noticeable so good news again
So generally a much better radio all round but the gps dying all the time is too much so I will reflash and change my radio back to 0017
How has everyone else found this version?

To be honest i have found GPS sucks except on official roms, strange i know, but always get loss of signal after so long and it never really recovers to be reliable until i restart my phone. Call quality is much better, closest competitor for us uk users is 0300 but this is definately better.
Which version did you use ? iGO Primo 1.2 ?
Primo but last years version, I did play with 1.2 but its rubbish (looses gps every few minutes, then reboots my TG01 and no TTS even following all the instructions)
When it stops even if I exit Primo and open GpsMod it shows nothing.
The original TG01 custom roms used to be like this but they were radio 0016
wow, your report seems great. I'll try out the radii tonight!
With Primo 1.2 and latest Radio 321 i loose GPS about 15-20 minutes...
My first test was made using 300.76... GPS works without problem...
But since 321, my latest test, i loose GPS like HTC device especially HD²...
Then i think you are right... everything is better but GPS loose every time...
I need make a test with other Navi software... or GPS tools...
i will ask Nokser NOW !

Maybe.. anyone test Navi etc. in my ROM, because in this moment me TG01 is dead ...
Dead, like real Dead ? or something can be made to restore device ?
@ Nokser Fan users...
I ask help about feedback with Navi software, can you confirm keep Sat fix is rubbish !!
To keep everyone updated, I used Mirlog's radio kitchen and switched to 0018 radio (which I have never used before) and the gps is working ok combined with GpsMod
In conclusion anyone wanting a good stable fast radio use 0321 but if you need a good working gps then switch back to 0017 or 0018.
Same conclusion !
To have a good issue with calling and browsing and something other than GPS... use 321...
if you want stable and good feature back to original Radio provided by Chef's...
Important:
If you use new RADIO-....0321, then you must try too new driwers+new apps..
I have this same problems in other radios..
Nokser... you share nothing with XDA... only ROM with new feature...
All users give not a good feedback about your latest ROM because you use a method to force user to stay with you !
Method does not really good, but your ROM seems to be good !
Then Where is New Drivers ? where is New apps ?
share something... or do not say : hihihhi ! use new 'from my rom'
But this all opinion isn't from my test ROM, only from test Radio...
So funny, i love You Nokser !
and about your GREATEST drivers and apps ?
You give something to communauty or always a Chef's Secret ?
forgive ... . I do not understand ...

I will be devils advocate. I do not know Nokser's roms but if they are really good , they are much more worth than all this idiotic animations, skins, pictures and other production for "children" so do no say that Nokser share nothing. Good rom is everything.

i agree Fxdjacentyfxd. We should stop flaming other members... At least we have developers, lets not try to make our TG01 community any smaller... Be grateful. I know i cant exactly talk as i havent developed any thing for our device, but i try to keep things going Please everybody calm down.
• idiotic animations ? like bootloader !?
an exemple ? a rom ?
• Skins ? for what ?
• Productions for children ?
If you want be The Devil's Advocate With Al Pacino and Keanu Reaves...
Give an example , a name to purpose material comparison !
Other, i m not a Judge, i think you watch lot of series on Justice !
EDIT:///
I m not an aggressor ! But when he asked me long times ago, i don't use his technic... then i ask him to share, to explain more about Radio version !
Answer : MY rom, MY drivers, MY apps !
Maybe i m an stupid idiot but i can't understand why it make it like that !
