So I've been using the Energy ROM for about a week now and I think it did this in the 8/1 build too...
If Im using the phone for a period of more than 10 mins the outlook app will open to the e-mail (10 mins is the time Ive set to check my email folder)
If Im not using the phone when I turn the phone back on after 10 minutes it defaults to the email folder. Even with S2U2 set to unlock to home.
Is this a ROM bug or some setting I've screwed up?

I have this bug on an older WM 6.5 build that I am researching.
I'll let you know if I find anything.
I have mine set to check every 2 hours on my IMAP e-mail, but it still opens every 10 minutes or so, connecting or not.
I can confirm that...
I changed my send/receive time to 2 hours today as well and outlook is still opening every 10 mins or so.
Im going to try flashing the 8/1 build again... I dont 100% recall if it was doing that in the older energy rom build or not.
it has done that in every 6.5 rom i've tried...most annoying
this does not happen to me or anyone else i know with energy rom. are you guys all using POP vs IMAP? just curious, we need to start eliminating what you're doing different. imap is the choice protocol if your provider supports it.
This won't sound like the answer, but bear with me...
Check the box to enable the 'Account Picker' under Messaging > Options > Accounts and you should find that it suppresses the messaging popup without actually forcing you to use the [annoying] account picker in regular use. Manila (if you are running EnergyROM standard) will still open messages directly. It has worked for a number of people, including myself. I hope it works for you as well.

Yep Im using 2 gmail accounts both default IMAP setup. No POP accounts and no outlook email.
Well, Im using pop server to check my roadrunner email...
I've checked the account picker box...
and now instead of messaging opening completely, I just get "messaging" across the top and have to hit x to continue...sort of like its running in the background (checks every 5 minutes) but not completely hidden

Since upgrading my phone more than a month ago, since then (and I believe before that as well). When I go into my Outlook configuration screen my only choice for email type is Text, and it's grayed out, and won't let me change it. Yesterday (after I had first flashed 3.2.6) I saw that I could change it. I was in the process of playing with Sashimi trying to get it to work the way I wanted, and after getting all that setup, I noticed that I am locked back in to TEXT only again.
Is there a registry change or am I installing something that would be preventing me from choosing HTML.
Thanks,
BTC

HTML push e-mail is only available when connecting with an Exchange 2007 server. If you are connecting to an Exchange 2003 or later version of the server software, you can only send and receive text e-mails. This is a limitation on the server software and nothing to do with the mobile device.
Ah, wonder if it showed me the drop down because it hadn't synced yet.
Thanks for the info.

Yes. Once you sync for the first time it figures out what the capabilities are of the server and then will only offer you those options. I was pretty confused the first time around also.

Hi all,
There doesn't seem to be an option to switch off repeat notifications. Whenever I receive an email and I don't read it immediately, I'll get a repeat notification sound every 5 minutes or so until I acknowledge the email in some way.
I have looked to no avail, so am hoping that someone can point out where this option is. I have set up quiet time from 10PM - 7AM, but this isn't helping outside these quiet hours.
Hope you can help.
Thanks..
I think its a gmail bug. Except for me I get the messages report in winmo. Even if I delete them they come back. Fu!$&ng annoying. Even though I don't use winmo, I still see them if I have to do a restart or something
I've never bad this problem at all...

I'm using an app called Improved Email. Not syncing to Gmail, but internal mail app grabs corporate exchange, improved mail to another exchange server and also a hotmail account. Still don't see an option to disable the repeat notifications..
Are you having this problem with Gmail, or a different mail app? Because there are a few bugs ive noticed with the Gmail app like mattfmartin said. Sometimes I wont receive an email in WM but the moment i boot up into Android i start getting notifications from old & new emails.

Hi, I don't use gmail at all. I don't have a problem receiving email either, its just that when I do receive emails the notification sounds keep sounding every 5 minutes until I go into the mail application and read them which I don't often have time to do so the repeat notification sounds become quite annoying after 15 minutes or so, especially at work where they annoy other work colleagues as well.
my phone beeps one time, then the orange light stays on until i check it..
this must be build specific.. perhaps post in the build thread.
I dont use gmail either. And I get the notification repeats for everything. It's especially annoying for voicemail, and it doesnt matter if I have new voicemail or not, I check all the messages and then the notification comes back 5-10 minutes later, then I check again and there are no new messages... It's just annoying really though, not that big of a deal...
Has anybody else problems with extreme slowdown when downloading more than 20 E-mails or so? The download itself goes slower and slower, and then it starts affecting the rest of the phone. I sometimes have to turn off the phone because it becomes totally unusable. I use the latest Energy ROM with Max Sense but I have had this for a long time.
No problem with my mail accounts, have downloaded close to 40 mails from one account without hanging/slowing. I too use Energy, tried latest 29007 & 29017 builds but for me 23699 Dinik is my choice due to better sense stability & software scrolling compatability.
What email account is it and is it IMAP or POP3 ?
I have never tried the Dinik ROM, maybe I should try it? I have never had any problems with instability, though. But I stay iwth the 21-series ROMs, the one with the bottom start menu clashes with so many of the standard programs that I use.
The account is a regular mail account with my E-mail services provider online.no, and I use POP3 to download. I tried just now to hard reset the phone and download the 126 messages that are on the account from today and yesterday without using anything HTC on the home screen, and this time they came like clockwork. So it's obvious it's something with the updating of the HTC stuff.
You hard reset & avoided HTC homescreen both in 1 test ?
So which one actually resolved it !
What programs do you have issues with on bottom start menu builds ? I use the 23699 as it is 100% compatable with all software I use. 29xxx is a pain & with no real benefits to me.
My account is POP3,also have IMAP account. All work fine via Sense menu Mail tab send/receive button. Hope you can eliminate this problem.
I know it isn't the hard reset, because I actually did that earlier and had the slowdown. Should have mentioned that, sorry. The hard reset is because I changed ROM today, so I can experiment a bit without having to do Sprite Backups and restores all the time. And I have to do a reset (I think...) to make the messaging system forget that those mails have been downloaded before.
I actually can't remember what programs I had problems with, but I have tried the 29xxx builds several times and always flashed into a 21xxx after a few hours. Last time I tried was last fall, and I haven't changed any of my core programs in 2-3 years (there are no updates to them), so I'm quite sure I can't use that now either.
But I see one difference here: You use the Sense mail tab. I don't. I only use the messaging tab and open the original Windows Mobile messaging. I really don't like the message system in HTC, and I even turn off threaded messaging. You can say that I'm a bit old (pushing 50) and set in my ways when it comes to what I like. Still I found out that the Max Sense build really fits me, so I have stuck with that. I'll try downloading mail with the mail tab and see if that changes anything. I'll be back with the result soon!
Nope, that did not help. I get the same slowdown after a new hard reset, and putting in the mail tab when it goes beyond 20 E-mails or so. I really wish I could find a solution for this, it's bugging the s...t out of me.
I get this too but only on a gprs connection. Hsdpa or wifi is fine. Also using an energy Rom.
Sent from my fingers to your face...
Yeh I too do not use threaded sms but I do like sense tabs for quick sms & email viewing although 99% of any mail task is handled directly within WM mail client.
Many of my apps never got updated for WM6 but they are all luckily working ok for me.
I use GPRS Edge mainly for mail checks & downloads. Have regular inbox amounts around 20 to mid 30s & never had an issue !
Are you downloading the whole mail or have you capped a limit in the settings ? might help you pending on your needs !
I have a 2 kb limit, so not the whole mail. What are you using?
I have 2KB for Hotmail account & 20KB on my work accounts.
Do you have same issues via WIFI/ActiveSync/GPRS connection methods !
If software conflicts are ruled out & it happens on all connection types it is either related to your mail provider server or more likely a slight problem with your chosen ROM flavour.
Always WiFi, never any other type of mail check. I have a mobile router in my car, and I'm in my home office 99 % of the work week, so I don't need anything else. I'm guessing that it's something with the Max Sense ROM. I tried downloading only the headers just now, and that only moved the slowdown fase to around 30 E-mails. So there is something weird here. I may have to try out one of the Cookie Home Tab ROMs even though I love the Max Sense way of doing things. I'll probably get back to the Max Sense, though. If I'm careful to download mail and delete it from the server with my computer I won't get over 10-15 mails.
Mmm, is their any way you could forward priority mail to another account specifically used on your device thus limiting mail you recieve ! I realize this may not suit your use but thought worth mentioning since of your love with current ROM.
I count myself lucky my favourite ROM flavour & older 23699 build works 99.9% perfect in my daily use ... good luck ...
No, there isn't. I'll just have to live with it, thanks.
Hi Everybody!
A week ago I finally received 3.2 to my Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi only. Right after that I found that IMAP client stoped working - it is downloading folders list but not any messages. Does anyone see such things? And it looks like WiFi wake-up issue didn't fixed as well. Here is my tab params: kernel - 2.6.36.3, build - HTJ85B P7510XWKL1
Greetings!

same tab, same update but not these same problems.
Kernel: 2.6.36.3, Build: HTJ85B P7510WXKL1 to confirm.
Thanks for your input!
I just made hard reset but it seems didn't help. Also after this update home screen shortcuts became too sensitive - they try to move to 1st or 2nd screen instead of just move to another cell on the middle screen. Wierd.

Maybe bold, but going back to factory settings? If the problems keep on persisting that is.
Already did - nothing was changed Probably should talk with local support
I have had the same issue after the update. I tried getting Samsung support but no luck, they just said check with your network admin for the correct parameters. Wasted 40 minutes trying get the support person to understand the problem and gave up.
IMAP Email issue on Android 3.2
Grrrrr! I Spent 10 minutes on phone w/ GoDaddy to verify IMAP settings...They are right (big surprise). Spent 43 minutes on phone with Verizon w/ both tier 1 & 2 tech support....Nothing! THEN spent another 50 minutes on the phone with Samsung...again NOTHING! They ALL say, "haven't heard of this issue", even though a quick Google search shows...LIAR!! My inlaws are VERY mad, they spent $700 for something that worked great for a month, then the update came and now their emails do nothing, and email is one of the main things they wanted a tablet for...they travel in an RV a lot.
And the strangest thing is tht I can send an email from the tablet IMAP email account in the native Android "app" and it does go...it's just not showing what's in the folders.
I downloaded email apps which work fine, so for everyone to just throw their hands up and say nope not my problem is NOT ok! These people (my inlaws) are about to go to Verizon and have a WORD (meaning my father-in-law will yell....a lot!) I kinda don't blame him....$700 for something that I have to use a "bandaid" on to view email...IS rediculous.
Come on Samsung/Verizon/Android just admit there is a problem and fix it already!
If anyone figures out a workaround other than an app please email me.
Hi,
I have updated my device two days ago and have the same problem with IMAP, I can see all of the folders but cannot see the body of messages!
Any hope to fix this?
Thx
Is the IMAP problem with the stock email client? I've never had any luck with the stock email app and IMAP, beginning with my Droid Charge back in May of last year. I've used K9 (free app) and currently have nine IMAP accounts (IIRC; including two Gmail accounts) set up. No problems with them getting push notifications of new mails.
I'm not a huge fan of K9. It works flawlessly for the most part, but occasionally clicking "show pictures" in emails doesn't work (ok, more frequently than 'occasionally'), among other things. Still, for reliable IMAP notifications and sending, I can't complain...especially for the price. Still, I wish it were a little more polished. <shrug>

That is frustrating, same issue with native email client after upgrading to 3.2 - IMAP will not show any messages in the folders. I hope ICS upgrade will fix it.
Today I chatted with Samsung Tech support. Here was my issue:
"Wifi Galaxy Tab 10.1 GT-P7510. After geting OTA for Android 3.2 the Samsung "Email" app would not show any messages for the IMAP account that I have.
So far I have tried removing and re-adding the account, clearing out data from application but that does not help. I can see folders created under my Inbox but no messages will show, just "Load more messages 0/0" which stays the same after refreshing. If I create folders via webmail those will show up on tablet, but once again without any messages in them.
Following last support agent advise I have done a factory reset and then a Hard Reset but issue is still there. "
here was reply from Samsung:
Augustine: As you have performed all the troubleshooting steps it needs to be isolated at the service center. As we performed all the troubleshooting steps and issue still persists, the device needs to be serviced. Let me provide you with a link where you can file an online service request. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/request
I'm wondering if anyone knows of any apps/utils that notify you of new emails (without actually checking email directly on the phone). What I mean is, an app that I guess checks it in the background or whatever, then pops up letting you know you have mail "to check". When I had my "other phone" there was an app called Ultimate Notifier that did this - I didn't have to check my email constantly, and I'd only get notifications that I had email "to check" when I did.
I've found a few apps in the market, but none seem to either work at all, or even do what I'm wanting to do. I know it's not an issue to check email every hour or whatever, but sometimes I prefer to just be notified that I have an email, and if I decide to check it, I check it, if not I don't, at least I was notified anyhow.
Hopefully there's "an app" for that, lol. It's the only thing I miss coming from my "old phone" If it matters, I'm using AquaMail, and the few that I have found are for K9 mail (and haven't been updated in years).
Thanks.

I'm confused. All email I thought had this built in. I use Gmail, Yahoo (through built in email app) and Outlook through touchdown. Gmail and outlook are push so every time I get an email I can have it notify me. Yahoo checks every 1/2 hour and notifies me if I have a new email.
why would you need an external app unless you don't have nay kind of setting to auto update mail or push?

Because I don't have it set to update. I generally do, but wanted to have it the way I had it with my other device. It'd just notify that I *had* an email (it wouldn't pull it or anything), and I could choose to check it or not check it. I know it seems silly, but it's just the way I preferred it I suppose.

OK not sure if you do this to save battery life or whatever but if so it would not make sense since the other app would be reaching out (push) to see if there was any email. So it would be a wash one vs the other.

A bit of battery saving. I'm not sure how the app I was using with my other device worked (It was called Ultimate Notifier), but their system checked my email server(s) to see if I had messages, if I did, it'd just send me a push notification - I wasn't "polling" any email servers on my end.

Umm...Ultimate Notifier was made at a time when Push email didn't exist outside of using MobileMe. It was made useless when Apple allowed Push mail with Gmail and POP3 boxes. What you were, in essence, doing is polling the Ultimate Notifier server in the same way that phones today poll Gmail (or other boxes). It used no less battery. In fact, if you know how Push notifications work it doesn't matter if you have 1 service (in your case Ultimate Notifier) or 10 services, you're not using any more battery. The only thing using the battery is downloading the emails, which probably accounts for about 10 minutes of battery a day.
In essence, there's no need for an app like that when every email app can do it natively. It uses the same amount of battery. If you liked how it looked and such...that can probably be done with a few other apps (different email apps or notification apps).
