Does anyone use a remote with their Hero. The one bundled doesn't seem to control music playback, and I'd like to use my own headphones.
The official one from HTC looks good. But are there other options?

Just for the record, RC E100 doesn't work properly with Hero. The phone detects it as a headset with microphone, but the sound is mono and none of the buttons work.
According to the HTC tech support, they're not aware about any RC E100 driver release for Hero in the nearest future.
Thanks for the warning.
Are there any remotes that do work with the Hero?
Sorry, no. I'm happy with my Sony HDH DS-970 Bluetooth headset, and I'm not really looking into any wired replacements.
E100 Remote - works with Tmobile G2
Hey all,
I had the old HTC Diamond until I moved to the world of Android, I cant believe I have not had a crash yet, with my winmo device had to restart everyday nearly. Anyways, I digress, with the Diamond I purchased the HTC E100 remote.
I would like to say I am happily using it with the HTC Tmobile G2(Hero) phone without any issues, volume keys work great, can change music tracks without any problems and able to receive and end calls with the mic. Just though I will let you all know that it does work !
Weird. It definitely doesn't work properly for me.

Are you able to control other applications, such as last.fm, using the remote?
Update: It seems the previous remote I was testing was faulty. I just tested a brand new RC E100 and it worked perfectly fine with Hero out of the box, so now I'm thinking about getting one myself, if I could only find some good earphones that could match HDH DS-970's quality of sound.
I haven't tested it with anything else but the default Music Player though.
I have just purchased a RC E100 Remote Control unit for my HTC Hero but am getting the same problems as previously mentioned on here.
While the answer/hang-up and volume control buttons on the remote work fine, the media control buttons (play/pause and skip-forward/skip-backward) buttons do absolutely nothing at all. While there is a CD included containing drivers for Windows Mobile phones, there are no drivers for Android so I'm not sure if this means that the remote is supposed to work natively with Android
The RC E100 is advertised on the HTC website as being a compatible accessory for the HTC Hero so I assume it must be possible to get it to work properly with this phone in some way.
I emailed HTC support a couple of days to try and get an answer on this (no reply yet) but would be interested to know how other people have managed to get the RC E100 working with the HTC Hero because from this thread it appears that this remote does work with these phones.
I'm running on the latest version of the ROM (v2.73.405.5) so I'm not sure if that makes any difference (i.e. remote control of the audio functions have maybe been "broken" in this ROM)??
I use the HTC E100 remote with my Hero (modaco 2.8 rom). Every button is functional and sound is great

Can you possibly tell me what the exact part number of the remote is (shown next to "P/N:" on the side of the box). And is "HTC Hero" listed as a phone model on the side of your box? The part number on the side of my box is "66H00001-13M".
Even though the RC E100 is listed by HTC as a compatible Hero accessory, on the side of the box I received the Hero isn't listed as one of the phone models that the remote will work with. I'm beginning to wonder if there is actually more than one version of these remotes whereby maybe only later versions will work with the HTC Hero

I have same part no: 66H00001-13M, Hero not listed as compatible. I use android stock music app, and meridian is fully functional with RCE100 too.
Works just fine for me.
Have the White GSM Hero and the HTC EC E100 (White) works perfect. All buttons and stereo work excellent.
It however does not work with an adapter like the 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 charger, headphone, sync. I was hoping to hook this remote up in my car while charging it and it does not seem to be possible. Remote works by itself just fine though.
Hmmmmm. I'm trying to use mine with the standard music app as well. Are there any settings on the phone that might need to be enabled (or ones that I might have inadvertantly disabled)?
If not then maybe I do actually have a duff remote. I guess all I can do in thay case is to try and get it replaced and see if a new one is any better.
Thanks for the help

Unfortunately not...I really wish it was that simple. The mute button on the side also isn't doing anything either
It's a shame I don't know anyone else with an HTC phone to try it on because I'm now paranoid that the problem is actually with the phone and not the remote. I guess I'll only know for sure by sending the remote back and getting a replacement sent to me.
I've just got this remote to use on my Hero / G2 and the remote is detected as a headset, the volume, back/forward and pickup/end call buttons are working fine, however the play/pause and mute buttons do nothing at all.
I'm running the latest official T-Mobile ROM (build 2.73.110.26).
Anyone got any ideas / suggestions as without play/pause working it's pretty useless!

actually, i got this one as well, and it works perfectly (play music, answer calls etc.)
it worked perfectly when i used the stock 2.73 rom, and it still works perfectly with modaco's 3.0 rom
what's also nice is that you can actually use 2 headphones at the same time by plugging in the wired remote control in the extusb, and the standard HTC earphones in the 3.5mm jack (although only the buttons on the standard HTC 3.5mm earphones will work when doing this)

I've currently got an open "ticket" with HTC about this issue but they're not being very helpful or quick with their responses to be honest. I submitted the original details of the problem to them 6 weeks ago but they still haven't given me any real help or possible resolutions. After 4 weeks of communication back and forth they eventually told me to just look on the list of compatible products for the HTC Hero I politely informed them that I had already done that before I ordered the remote. Apparently my problem is being urgently investigated but the last reply I had from them was over 2 weeks ago so it clearly isn't that urgent to them. It seems to me that they actually have no idea why.
The supplier of the remote didn't want to give me a replacement and just told me to get in contact with HTC for a resolution. This is dragging on far too long now so it looks like I'm going to have to go back to the supplier and demand they give me a refund.
This remote seems very hit and miss with the HTC Hero and I can't understand why some people can get all buttons on them to work perfectly fine while others have issues with some of the buttons not working even when those different people are running the same ROM

I have a Pioneer AVIC-D3 with a CD-BTB200 bluetooth kit that will allow me (technically) to broadcast bluetooth music to my headunit, and also to use as a handsfree through the stereo. Has anyone done this before? On the AVIC411 forums, a lot of people have had some serious issues with WM6 and synchronicity, but some people have downloaded JetWARE and been able to use one function or the other.
Any input would be awesome.
Ok...it seems no one else cares, but I got it to work with the phone functionality. It's rather cool sounding, and I like it a lot. The only problem I'm running into currently is that I can only send my contacts across one at a time, which is kinda lame.
question
do u mean u can play music in ur car, as long as the car is bluetooth enabled?
thats great..i dont have a car with that yet.. but i plan to, and thats great to know.. thanks

So you got it working. with out any bugs,
Try this: in the registry of your device HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\SYS\COD
change the value to 5374476 (DEC). That helped me. The Phone changes in bluetooth to a smartphone (I don't know the difference to WM5-6.1).
I used jetwaremobile.com and downloaded the hands free config profiles onto my wing and it works fine.
Hello,
My mate and I bought a few HTC/Dopod RCW100 Stereo MP3 Headset Controls (off ebay, but same as http://www.pressdigital.com.au/phon...ies/rcw100-stereo-headset-control-p-5871.html) but, despite saying that they'd work with the TYTN, they don't appear to. They do, however, work with the TYTNII, so it strikes me that it's probably just lacking a driver or something?
Does anyone know, or is anyone able to help? It's really frustrating.
In the TYTN, when plugged in, there is no difference. It is as if the phone isn't aware that the device is connected. With the TYTNII, it just works as it should.
Any help would be appreciated.

(1) You need the htc music plug-in 1.0 in addition to the driver.
The driver can be downloaded from HTC's website.
I cannot find the drivers or music plugin on the HTC site, and am not 100% sure which drivers I am looking for.
If you, or anyone else, has them, could I please arrange to have them sent to me somehow (email, downloadable link...)
Thanks heaps,

I also couldn't find them. Pressdigital Helpdesk initially sent me to HTC but I couldn't locate a driver download. PD then provided the cab of Audiomanager. When that didn't work sent me here, saying:
"The Audiomanager file seems to work fine in testing here - We'll continue to look into this but unfortunately there's only so much ROM "tweaking" support we can offer on HTC product. You'll find a fairly in depth discussion on the various ROMs and Audiomanager on www.xda-developers.com - including downloads of the various versions. It may be worth spending a little time on Xda developers - referencing the particular ROM you are running on your HTC."
Trouble is without knowing what version I need I'm a little lost.
I have a Dopod 838Pro which uses WM6.0
Hey all you gaming hd fans out there, just thought id let you in on a little discovery of mine.
The Foldable Bluetooth Gamepad DOES work with the HD
I got mine second hand off ebay, but heres a link to the product im talking about:
http://www.order-bulk.com/Bluetooth-Gamepad-For-Mobile-Sony-Ericsson-Nokia-Motorola-LG-Samsung.html?currency=GBP&language=en#googlebase
The first question is, does the HD fit inside the wings, which i can answer with a resounding yes, its a tight fit but with no chance of your HD falling out during a frantic button bashing session!
Its a little tricky to get working with the HD as the install disk, or this driver file:
http://www.gdbint.com.au/downloads/drivers/BGP100_v1502_Games_Included.zip
does not include the HD as a selectable phone, however using this sequence i got it installed:
added the gamepad to my bluetooth devices (not sure this is needed but it what i did)
connected my phone and laptop using a usb activesync
ran the setup.exe from the driver file and clicked a couple of next buttons and an agree
when selecting a phone chose the htc magician
then comes the bit that i had to try a couple of times, the cab runs on the HD and asks where to install, device or storage. the first time i tried device and the program wouldn't open, (an error about certification) so i tried again and installed to storage and hey presto everything worked!!
However there was one more stumbling block in my quest to play zelda on my phone, although the gamepad worked for navigating menus and such like, morphgear would recognise my clicks once i'd started playing. a quick search on google and reinstalling morphgear kicked this problem to touch however and here i am, about the play zelda: a link to the past until i run out of AAA batteries for the pad!!!
So if anybody else out there is into gaming and HD'ing then i would wholeheartedly recommend this product
I haven't noticed any difficulties while installing the driver. The gamepad works just fine, unfortunately the HD doesn't fit in the middle of the gamepad, what makes it quite inefficient, at least for me ...
on my gamepad there are two adjustable rubber grips inside the folding arms to hold the phone in place, try sliding these to the outside of the arms and the HD should squeeze inside:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3505774074/
good find thanks very much, I will probably be buying this tonight!
Many many thanks for the infos...
you just answered all my unanswered questions
ordering it soon.....
I've just received mine...
Works perfect.... more than perfect ..
installed on storage card and call of duty2, flux challenge, pocket clive (zx spectrum emulator) all work fine
Maybe just a barebly noticed lag in communication (a small delay in controls... and i am not so sure about it)

nice
thx for the informations
but i think it looks a lil cheap
isn´t there any posibility to use a normal bluetooth controller for example the PS3 controller ?
It looks cheap but take it from someone who owns one, the build quality on it is on par/close to with Genuine playstation controllers.
Buttons feel good, not mushy and spongy, sliders move smoothly and no poorly fitting parts or grinding in the moving bits. They are REALLY good.
I have to disagree. I've had this bluetooth gamepad for a long time, mainly used for the N95. The quality is average at best and no where near the comfort of any game console controllers. The most annoying feature is the extremely poor battery life. It doesn't last more than a couple of hours... It will cost you a fortune in the long run and frustrate you in the middle of a game.
If you want a controller I would rather use the iGo Stowaway Keyboard. The battery last about 90hrs. Not ideal but it doubles up as a QWERTY.
Hi!
i have buyed bgp100 gamepad too but it seems don't works correctly, A,B,C,D,R button are received from htc hd like same button...

thanks for all answer.
Hi everyone ... bought a BGP100 last weekend here: http://www.pearl.de/a-HZ1400-4046.shtml?query=bluetooth gamepad
But if i install the driver via PC (cab installation) and after starting the Gamepad application, there is an error message popup:
"Connection error! Sorry! We don't support this Bluetooth Gamepad."
Anyone has a solution?
hi, you have to install ms version not widcom, it works for me, but there is other problem: A,B,C,D,R are receive from the HD with same exadecimal code and it's unusable for playing...
if it works for you please say something on this board please.
Hmmm ... this Gamepad is absolutely not working. Tried a lot of drivers, MS Bluetooth Stack drivers, Widcomm drivers (with them, the gamepad dialog doesn't start), samsung drivers ... everything.
The same message every time: "Connection error! Sorry! We don't support this Bluetooth Gamepad." --- tried to connect directly via bluetooth, nothing.
I think, the gamepad isn't working for me (as it's not a MSI gamepad )

Try The Attached File
I know that this thread hasn't been posted to in a few months, but I hope that the information that I am posting will help someone. This is my first time posting anything, anywhere, on the web.... so wish me luck.
My current setup is a HTC Sprint Touch Pro flashed to ToO's CricKet rom(very nice). Whilst expirementing with emulation on the device, and mapping the keyboard buttons, all of the Action Buttons were showing up as the same location on the keyboard. Regaurdless of what button I pressed, they all came up as 020 if I remember right. After spending night after night of searching forum after forum, along came a solution. Posted somewhere in the deapths of our very own xda-developers.com I read about this program KforTP. Created by "Jack Wang", I am not sure as to how Mr. Jack came to developing this marvelous tool... but I think it would have happened like this...
Late one night in 2008 while at the bar, Jack sat sat freeloading WiFi on his HTC Touch Pro. Downloading emulators at speeds that would put The Flash to shame.
(Evil Laugh)
After a few rounds too many Jack became enraged at his phone.
"Why won't my Action Buttons map on PockSNES!"
Only it came out in a drunken slur. The bartender knew that Jack was terribly drunk.
"Hey et your drunk #[email protected] outta here!"
As Jack left the bar in his beat-up honda he turned the music up and let the windows down to keep his mind off of driving drunk. Rounding a sharp curve on a wet road Jack soon found himself spinning out of control. Lights were comming from everywhere on the dashboard....
"OH &$#% I'M GONNA DIE!!!!"
The car finally came to a hault, and Jack was deaf to the music wailinng from the speakers.
"Yeeeeeee Haaaaaaw!"
Jack got back on the road and drove safely home. After walking through the threshold of his abode, Jack knew that he survived that crash for only one reason.
"I must code a fix for my problem with the Action Buttons not mapping."
But any way the file is attached so give it a shot, and let me know how you liked my first post ever in my LIFE... any feedback would be nice.... Add me on Facebook... whatever.... oh wait, i never post my email address! But seriously let me know what you think. I have never tried this program on any device except for MY Touch Pro. The code may need to be adjusted if you intend to use it on any other device. I do not take any credit for this program in any way. The authors information is in the "about" section.
Welcome, new net citizen!
I'm looking for a Bluetooth remote to use in my car, to control my G1 when it's hooked up as a music player. This is both a safety and convenience concern.
The starting point is finding a remote control that transmits Bluetooth directly to the G1 (i.e., not infrared or wired). It needs, at a minimum, a forward and a stop button. Reverse, pause, and other functions are nice, but not mandatory.
The other half of the solution is software to control the media program in Android, which may or may not already exist; if not, I'll commission someone to write it. Maybe I can even offer a turnkey system for sale if there's enough interest.
I know someone's will say "search the forums", and I did. What I found seemed to be focus on wired remotes for another HTC phone, or remote controlling your PC with your phone. But if I missed a relevant post, please do correct me.
Ideas are greatly appreciated.

there is a remote for gaming used for the n95 i saw on a website it worked for android on a basic level. maybe that might help. in the development of this
Found this on another thread http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87Wc0KqnW2M that some people are using. Jabra BT3030
Aux cable from car stereo plugged into remote. Remote paired with phone. Not *completely wireless* but atleast you don't have to look at your phone.
Does that get you anywhere?

Hmm, I posted a reply to this, but it isn't showing up. Maybe forgot to submit.
Anyway, thanks for pointing this out. I had seen this a long time ago and forgot all about it. That's exactly the kind of thing I want. Here's the instruction manual, for anyone else who might be interested. It's about US$55.
The only problem I see here is that it'll register as a headset and thereby disable the sound coming out of the extUSB connector in the car.

It's the Zeemote JS1, and this blog has a video showing it interacting with a G1. This may ultimately be what I'd have to go with... it seems to be designed solely as a controller, without A2DP getting in the way. But looks like it needs some kind of interfacing software, at least on the Nokia. At US$20, I should just get one and play around with it. Cheaper than buying another car stereo with BT built in.
Dual Infrared + Bluetooth Remotes
FWIW, I ran across two rare, interesting items.
One is the RicaVision Vave 100 Universal Remote. Unfortunately, it's $349... but in theory, it would control both your car stereo (via infrared, which the majority of remotes use) and the G1 (via Bluetooth). It's able to "learn" commands from 24 infrared devices, and has a 2.4" 240x320 color LCD screen. No PC or internet connection is needed for configuration.
The screenshots show artist/track info being received from Windows, so it's Media PC-oriented, but still a possibility -- assuming you could program it accordingly. If so, just carry it back and forth between home and car: use it inside for your TV and PC, outside for the car stereo and G1.
The other device is the Ricavision SideShow Remote for the same price, also having IR + BT transmitters. This is purpose-built for Windows SideShow, and has fewer buttons -- volume, play/pause, prev/next, etc. It's smaller than the Vave, but still has a 2.5" QVGA screen. This is perfect for my car setup, but there doesn't seem to be a learning mode or any way to program, so the chances of it working are about zero. Boo!

If that worked in my case it'd be perfect, and it's the smallest form factor yet. The only problem I foresee with this and the Jabra is that they'll want to subvert my wired headphone output over to A2DP. But for $13 I'll probably take a chance.

Well, I finally bought a Jabra from there. I'll play with it and report back on whether it'll work like I wanted above.
Meanwhile, I didn't realize until looking more closely that most of them were fake. I've been burned by counterfeits before, and sure enough, there are a ton of them on fleaBay. I made this graphic to demonstrate:
Aside from the logos, they look identical. Price is an obvious warning, but not always. Location is another: I'm wary of shipping from Hong Kong. OTOH, just because it says Jabra doesn't mean it's real... the Motorola H700 is another example where it's nearly impossible to tell them apart online.
Unfortunately, even with VeRO and the rules against keyword spamming, this junk can be found all over eBay.

I just got a pair of these and thanks to your illustration, I'm convinced mine are counterfeit works well with all my other phones but the G1.

In theory, if it's able to connect to one phone's A2DP, it should connect to any. But I wonder if it has something to do with the ROM you're running?
I've noticed the G1 needs some finesse when connecting and pairing BT. Also, there are different steps you can take that all arrive at the same result (ergo, lots of trial and error).
Anyway. Now that I have the Jabra, my next problem is keeping A2DP, HSP and AVRCP separate... more on that soon.

Here is whats interesting; I have tried the BT3030 with several ROMS and I get the same results (I even tried it on stock and then rooted). When paired placing and receiving calls work fine. The problem arises when you try to listen to music, the sound skips constantly and I haven't figured a way to fix this permanently. Do you experience this problem (skipping sound)?

It's strange that it works with one phone and not another. But if it really is a counterfeit, all bets are off -- you may never figure it out.

I got 3 knockoff bt3030s back in october (from dinodirect... shady) at $15/ea it was an ok price...
I too have the skipping problems on my Droid, but I just discovered how to fix them. Go into bluetooth settings, long-press the jabra bt3030 device, select options, and deselect phone audio and reconnect the device. Now, no more skips.
I don't know if it's the bt3030's fault, I think it might be an android bug where audio gets routed over phone audio instead of a2dp. This is evidenced by the skipping audio--headset audio only has something like 8khz of bandwidth.
It kind of sucks that phone audio has to be disabled, but in all seriousness, I use the bt3030 for a2dp far more than phone calls, if I need to make a phone call over the bt3030, I'll reconnect the phone audio and disconnect it when I'm done.
Don't know if anyone still cares, but for the record, and for searchers, there are these options:
http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/217/sfID2/341/productID/1937
http://www.scosche.com/products/sfID1/217/sfID2/219/productID/1938
Both of these are very expensive though as they are part of large packages for cars. YMMV.
Hi,
So I did a lot of searching and didn't get a definitive answer. Seems as if the
http://onlyandroid.mobihand.com/pro...410&n=HTC Wired Remote Control Stereo Headset
headset works for some people depending on the ROM they have flashed. I have a HTC Rogers Dream with the 32B board and MGLINS 3.1 ROM. I am really curious if I can get this working on my phone. I have the old school casette adaptors and this would sound great on my phone. Plus I am bed ridden for the next few months so I would really love to be able to listen to music then have my hot laptop blasting heat on my face.
Could anybody shed some light on this?
Your HTC device may require a driver for this audio accessory to function correctly. If you experience any problems, then please download the driver from here, once the driver is downloaded, the file name needs to be renamed to zip.

Looking at your post, i was interested until i saw this. im a little confused on that. But if anyone can confirm this works on the dream on most roms, or what roms, it'd be nice. good find bro
First thing I noticed:
Compatible Devices:
HTC: HTC Hero, HTC Magic
Sprint: Sprint HTC Hero
T-Mobile: T-Mobile myTouch 3G
(One of these phones has built in FM radio?)
Dream/G1 not listed.
I wonder if it would work.
It has a built in microphone and uses any ear phones for the audio.
I can use my Skull candy ear phones with my calls! SWEET!
The file they offer for DL is an .exe file which opens up some cab files.
Funny thing...when I ran the install on my computer, with out the phone hooked up...it told me that I had the latest drivers on my phone and I did not need the file. I guess it's psychic.
Looks like a very nice headset. I wonder how long the cord is?
$7 cheaper on ebay, but they come from China.
Hmmm

Before you blow 30 dollars on this wired remote, lemme tell you this.....it DOESN'T WORK for Android phone. I bought the exact remote from a trusted ebay seller (his actual store/warehouse is literally 10 minutes away from my place, and I have meet the person).
The remote function doesn't work at all. Can't start/pause, skip track, etc. on my G1. Although, I tried it on my Tmo Wing (a WinMo phone), and it works flawlessly.
And the .exe file for the supposely driver download, it's WinMo drivers since it the exe file unzips a bunch of .cab files. As far as I know, there's no WIRED remote control for Android phone yet. The only thing that closely resemble that function would be a A2DP bluetooth headset, but bluetooth will suck your phone's battery juice worse that Edward Cullen from Twilight trying to be a vampire.
ichigoismyhomie - it does work for Android phones.
The manufacturer's site specifically states HTC Hero, HTC Magic, Sprint HTC Hero, T-Mobile myTouch 3G
All of which are Android phones.
Did you mean to say that it did not work on your G1?
Seems odd that it it will work on the mt3g, and not even be viable to work on the g1.
The 2 phones are sharing several other things, I wonder if its a simply a line in build.trout.prop file that activates the ability to use the headset.
So the questions are...
Can it be hacked to work?
and
What's it gonna take to do it?
and
Where can we get a headset to test on?

This is getting fishy. I was doing my own investigation on this wired remote. Apparently, the one I bought was a different but quite similar wired remote.
I found the same wired remote that OP mentioned on eBay, but there's 2 different model, E100 and W100. It's probably related to color but whatever.
I'm trying to get an official support from the HTC itself, because I can't see any official, 1st party online store from HTC at all. Every time I google'd "HTC store" or "HTC official store", I keep getting links to 3rd party sites that claims that they carry "official" HTC OEM accessories.
And also just like you said, it seems very odd that the product page for the remote that OP mentioned stated that it will work on mt3g and hero, but G1 is not listed as the compatible device. Those 3 phones are basically almost has the same hardware and inter-compatible software (with some mods of course).
Also, another yellow flag for me is that both eBay and OP's product page says that only use the remote on devices with integrated FM function, which is the feature that none of the HTC's current Android devices has.
so to answer your questions:
Can it be hacked to work (on G1, i presume)?
If anyone can confirm this remote works on mt3g/hero with a video proof, then I'm pretty sure this community can find the patch to make it work on G1.
What's it gonna take to do it?
see answer above
Where can we get a headset to test on?
I think you can always order it from OP's link or eBay. Feel free to try if you have 30 something bucks to burn. As for me, I think I would stay away because all these questionable indications (i.e. self-proclaim OEM title, non-existence for official HTC accessory store/page/info, contradicting product description with the FM-integration and no G1 compatibilty).
It would be really nice if it does work on G1/mt3g/hero, but until I get further info from HTC rep, or someone posted a video of it working properly on an android phone, I wouldn't waste my hard-earned 30 dollars on it.
OK here is what I have discovered...
The OP device. The actual E100 headset is getting mixed reviews.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550377
They are on Hero. Some of them have E100's that work fine, others have faulty ones. Some have exchanged them for units that work, and some are waiting for HTC customer service to respond.
I think that there is either a quality control issue.
OR...
Another possible reason these are not working is the fact that they are equipped with a "HOLD to lock" button. If people are getting remotes that are set to the locked setting, and they don't know how to deactivate the lock, none of the buttons would work. Which is the primary complaint, the headphones work, but none of the buttons do.
By googling - HTC RC E100 Music Remote Control Dream -
I found these things for sale all over the place.
A few list the G1 as a viable phone, MOST do not. Almost all do list the mt3g.
HTC does not appear to sell accessories directly. They sell through the carriers. So I am going to see if I can find one at the Tmo store tomorrow. If I can, I will plug it in on the spot and try it out. If it doesn't work I'll try a few more.
ichigoismyhomie - If you look at the ads, they say "Also, with the built-in FM antenna giving a signal boost, listening to FM radio stations* is crystal clear*"
The note below states "only on devices which have a radio."
The e100 is actually usable on several phones some of which do have radios.
The best list I found was this one:
Code:
Works with: Alltel PPC-6800, Touch, Touch Diamond, Touch Pro / AT&T Tilt2, HTC Pure, Fuze, Tilt / CellularSouth HTC Touch Diamond, HTC 6800 / Cingular 8525 / HTC Hero, Magic, Snap, TyTN II, Touch, P4351, Titan, Apache, S411, Touch Pro2, Touch Diamond2, Touch Pro, Touch Diamond, Touch Cruise, Touch Dual / Sprint Touch, Mogul, Snap, Hero, Touch Pro2, Touch Pro, Touch Diamond / T-Mobile myTouch 3G, Dash 3G, Shadow II, Shadow, Wing, myTouch 3G Fender, Touch Pro2 / US Cellular HTC TouchPro2, HTC TouchPro, HTC Touch / Verizon Touch Diamond, XV6900, XV6800, SMT5800, Ozone, HTC Imagio, Touch Pro2, Touch Pro
Another item of note is that several people who do have working e100 units have stated that the remote buttons only work on the default music player.
Tunewiki has a setting under preferences. Maybe that will allow tunewiki to be used instead.
I also found this, which is listed as working with the G1 specifically.
http://www.g1depot.com/htc-stereo-headphones/11A29A5248.htm
Similar idea, your headphones/ their mic. But no fancy nav buttons.
Serves the same function otherwise, which is my main concern.
Thank you all for looking into it further. I still can't seem to find any solid answer as well so I will hold off on dropping 30 bucks (plus duty etc for Canada).
OK I have called about 20 stores in the Seattle area.
No one carries these things, and those who made recommendations said, "The Web"
Global Marketing pisses me off! If everyone is going to suggest the web as a shopping outlet then we need to just close down physical locations and be done with it!
Sorry side tracked there.
Anyone know a place with a super great return policy?
I'll pony out the cash as long as I can return it if I can't get it working.
Someone with fast shipping, and no BS.
Let me know.
(Damn it now my mouse just broke....Not having a good day.)
So in my fit of rage at my mouse....
I went to ebay and found an OEM headset that allows you to add your own head phones.
Since this is the basics of what I want for my phone, and they were only $6 with shipping, I bought them.
I could not find the rc e100 for less than $25 and I was willing to lose the $6, but not the $25.
Also the OEM version is supposedly made for the G1.
I'll let you know how it does when it gets here.
I will continue to look for the rc e100.
But I have come across a few more forums which state that the HTC rc e100 does not work properly in a lot of phones.
Ironically, some of the more detailed feed back has been under our noses the whole time.
Go to the main xda forum page and do search for HTC RC E100 You'll get 200 hits in the XDA forums alone. (201 if you include this post. )

That's the exact adapter that I use right now in my car for my hands-free calling. I've had several different type, but this one has the best built quality. I hooked it up to my tape deck (or you can also hook it up to AUX in if you have one) and I can have the same function as having a fancy BT stereo system in my car.
Until the E100 is confirmed to work on G1, that adapter won't be going anywhere soon.

I bought an OEM/clone RC-E100 remote (branded 'Well' on the clip) for my T-Mobile G2 (aka HTC Hero) from eBay: cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200430375837

I can confirm that the play/pause and skip buttons do not work with any player I tested (Last.fm, HTC default) but DO work with TuneWiki. Thanks for the hint!
I live in the Netherlands and bought the G1 the day it came out, and hence never received a mini-usb -> 3.5 adapter. I've looked everywhere in stores here and in the states and in the UK (I travel a lot) but I can't seem to find it anywhere in stores. Something like this would be ideal.

You can get the same one here at Cnn.cn for only $8.99 plus S&H:
http://cnn.cn/shop/u110-headset-p-5472.html
I just ordered one. I don't have experience with this remote but I've had many positive experiences with cnn.cn. Everything they say is OEM is in fact OEM and genuine.
