can anyone recommend a quality fm transmitter? dont have an aux input in my car radio (damn thing has everything else but no input!).
I believe belkin might make a mini usb transmitter. But u can use on of those tape deck converters with a headphone attached. That's what I use from time to time. I'm not sure if ur radio has a tape deck lol considering its dead tech lmao
lol! My radio's not that old. Couple of years but was one of the better pioneers. Quite a few bells & whistles, sat. radio, ect., just no stupid aux input!
this one is £4.99 ($8.15656) it is really good once you find a free frequency and powering it from the car cigarette lighter is a must because it is SH*T when running it from batteries
Are you sure it doesn't have an aux round the back?
I picked up an FM transmitter from Netto for £1.99 or £2.99 a while back, quite big though. They were selling it as "Wireless headphones" as it came with some FM headphones.

In Italy is not possible to use it as described. The problem? No free fm freqeuncy, and even if found one in the car is mandatory to change frequency to find new frenquently. So useless, the only solution can be to remove the camble of the antenna and to put it near the fm trasmitter but in this case we have to rennunce to the fm radio.

Same for me. I have the Belkin transmitter, but never could use it.
You just struggle to find a free frequency, and a few kilometers later, it is all jammed already.
I even tried to find something like 3 different frequencies for different parts of my daily trip... and I failed...
And even when I found some working frequencies, sound was rarely free from perturbations.
Note that country legislations are different (I am in France) and maybe in us you can have a transmitter with stronger emission, which might improve the situation a bit.
( linked Belkin product : "This product is compliant with the EU standard for Band II Low Power Devices for use in Germany, Switzerland and Iceland" so maybe try a US version instead ? )
I did not try unplugging external antenna. If it did solve the problem, you would have to find a way to have a switch to plug/unplug it... (not so easy !)

for me the only solution that can let it work properly is to find the cable of the antenna in the car. After discovered out where is located try to put the trasmitter very close to the antenna cable. It can work. Another solution can be to reduce a little the power of receiving signals of the antenna, that can let to listen good the frequency well trasmitted and at the same time to
free some others.
Found this on Cellphoneshop.com
http://www.cellphoneshop.net/dashfm.html
Dude fmtalk kicks ass!!
update: I tryed to use the fm trasmitter buyed without the battery but only using the alimentation from the car. The things seems to work really good now. Even with a not clear radio station is trasmitting with more power and the signal of the fmtrasmitter is going over other signals.
If is possible to reduce a little the power of the car's antenna it will be really really perfect!
Here is one from Dealextreme.com.
Pros:
Cheap
Puts out a strong FM signal
Remote is nice, even though it's goofy looking
Charges and transmits at same time.
Cons:
Low Volume
Bad bass output
Takes forever to arrive.
Cheap plastic.

Yep, just got mine today as well. Works fine, remote is goofy as hell (have yet to try it though). It could fit a little snugger, but it holds will concidering the extra thickness with my battery.
No weird hissing and strong output with pandora and music on my sd card.
4/5 for it "just working", but doing it well.

OK.. I picked out the Holux GPSlim236 and TomTom Navigator 5 USA. I was wondering if anybody else has this combo on the wizard and how well it works? I am open to suggestions for different gps receivers and different USA navigation/mapping software as well..
Thanks!
Yeah, I've decided on the Holux as well, but I'm leaning more towards Inav by Iguidance...but still haven't ordered...still trying to see what works best...
i've heard reviews that some ppl had to do some workarounds b4 Tomtom worked.
Thanks to all the positive feebacks from ppl in the UK...however...any1 in the US have any comments??
I'm using it right now and it works great. the only catch is that the latest TT 5.21 (with bluetooth fix) only works with the latest US maps v567+

I use the Adapt BT GPS unit, with the Nemerix 16-channel chip. Works like a breeze with TomTom NAVIGATOR 5.21, this is the one:

It gets a fix very quickly (around 30 seconds when switching on), runs forever on 1 battery charge (10+ hours; uses the same battery as the Nokia 6600 which I used with it before the Wizard).
Works with all kinds of other software as well, highly recommended!
Can't find any info or any place that sells the Adapt Receiver in the US and very hard to find it outside the US as well...
I see now that it is sometimes re-branded as 'Oasis Media Bluetooth GPS'. It is technically 100% identical, except a different lettering on the outside. It sells in various online shops for about €65, which is about $84.
Here's the shop that I bought it from with a link to the product: http://babelfish.altavista.com/babe...nl_en&url=http://www.pdashop.nl/product/19348
I also saw that Adapt already has newer models, the AD-500 and AD-700 which are smaller and feature a mini-USB jack for direct connections.
AD-500: http://babelfish.altavista.com/babe...nl_en&url=http://www.pdashop.nl/product/18249
(€95 ^= $122)
AD-700: http://babelfish.altavista.com/babe...nl_en&url=http://www.pdashop.nl/product/21808
(€99 ^= $128)
Thanks to Babelfish for some funny translations
OK.. I will keep the Adapt one in mind? Anybody in the US have any opinions on USA-sold BT GPS devices?
j0bro, got the same one as you......never had a problem
I use TT5 with a nice little blue QStarz BT-Q880 32-channel GPS receiver which even has a magnetic base (and comes supplied with a metal plate to affix to a surface in your car, so it won't slide around when cornering/braking)... It says it's 32 channel, has a nifty Auto setting so that if you have it plugged into your car charger it'll autosense when the car's turned on and only turn on then. From cold, it doesn't take long at all to pick up the satellites, and from a warm start (put into Off then turned to On or Auto within a few minutes) it's instantanous, which is handy if you ever need to reset your device.
TT5.0, GB Plus map. The little QStarz bugger looks like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/32-CHANNEL-BL...itemZ9731155991QQcategoryZ75327QQcmdZViewItem ...
Got it for a song too, only about 45GBP which I didn't think was bad at all considering at the time inferior devices were selling for at least 15/20 quid more (plus ridiculous postage!) The device works fine as either Other NMEA Bluetooth GPS or Other Bluetooth GPS, just pair it on your phone (instructions + paircode come with it) and then set up Bluetooth Serial Comms and instruct TomTom to use COM6 to receive data (it's 6 IIRC... Yeah, sounds right). Like the Adept someone mentioned earlier, it does last for aaaaaaaaages on one charge, but typical my luck, it had to run out of juice one day whilst I was driving down the M40 - so there's me, plugging in a car charger and trying to plug the jack into the unit, then trying to reopen the crashed TomTom and correctly configure my journey to continue... All at 75mph! Ooer :S ... Good job I had a phone cradle otherwise I would've been royally screwed, but yeah, the GPS unit is great. Very small, unobtrusive and the LEDs are clear enough to see even in sunlight so you can see exactly what it's up to.
Awesome man... QStarz sounds like it has it so far with the 32 chans.
In fact.. this unit is sold in the US as the "Rikaline GPS-6033" for those interested for around $85 USD.
Ya learn something new every day
OK.. After much research, I have decided on everything at a very reasonable price too.
GPS Unit: i-Blue Bluetooth GPS [NEMERIX GPS Module V3.7]
http://www.semsons.com/ibhiseaublgp.html
Software: TomTom Navigator 5 USA
Memory Card : Mini SD 1GB
And a powered cradle mount:
http://store.yahoo.com/semsons-inc/ipocrmowiins.html
All for... $274.99 USD... Not bad. If anyone has any gripes about TomTom, my alternatives are i.Guidance,Route 66,Mapopolis,Destinator.
Let me know what you think!
OK.. I am assuming nobody has anything better to suggest than TomTom.. If you do, let me know or else I will make the purchase soon.
This is a good thread to read too:

I picked up the Semsons package with the Solarius receiver and iGuidance. I finally got it to work after some bum info from Semsons and some good help from the nice folks on this forum.
The receiver seems to work fine although the solar seems to be more of a gimmick since the battery goes fast and after sitting in the sun in my car it doesn't seem to pick up enough of a charge to make it usable again so the iBlue does sound nicer, especially with the auto-detect feature. I'm still not fired up about iGuidance -- it seems light on features but that's compared to my experience with NeverLost, not any other PPC products. I'd also still suspect my performance issues with it are the result of a patchwork installation. I'd be very interested in knowing what Tom Tom is like in comparison, maybe someday I'll pick it up too.

I'll be quite honest and confess that I didn't pay for TT5 (blagged it off a mate and got the GB Plus maps from someone else), but I paid for the device to use it on and I paid for the GPS receiver, and for a student that was still way more than I should've spent
My experience with TT5 is on an Alpine, which has those (in)famous SD card access issues, but when it works, it works really well. I can't fault it, of course you have the 'famous' TomTom interface (which really is quite good), it's easy to use, clearly laid out, and has some nice features like muting TomTom sounds during incoming calls, routing them automatically to loudspeaker if you don't have a headset connected, all built in (which I'm sure all the others do as well like the Garmin units and the other various all-in-one solutions), but yeah, can't fault TomTom really.
ok im running 5.0.2H and it has stereo bluetooth right? have to make sure of that first lol.
In my car I dont have bluetooth, I just have the standard AUX input. So I was thinking of buying some type of adapter to plug into my AUX plug on my cars headunit that can then connect via bluetooth to my G1 to play stereo music.
Can someone recommend some good devices that would help me get this done? Thanks
didn't your G1 come with a headset??? if so you can plug any normal 3.5mm plug into it and it should work fine foger the dongle thing. personally mt G1 camr with a two piece headset, one that plugged into the phone and allowed a 3.5 mm headset plug, and the earbuds that plugged into the first piece. just get a male/male 3.5mm jack and plug it into the first piece, it should work fine
yes I know I can plug a stereo aux cable into my g1 with the dongle but I dont want to. i want to connect wirelessly via stereo bluetooth
any help please?
I've got a friend who uses this dongle with his car sound system and it seems to do the job pretty well: http://www.porta-charge.co.uk/accessory_0283.html
Also try searching google for '3.5mm bluetooth adapter' and a few show up with some reviews.
EDIT: Actually I think that device I linked to is a transmitter that plugs into his iPod and transmits to his bluetooth stereo. Try googling for '3.5mm bluetooth receiver', seems there's a couple of devices that will do that for you, they seem pricey though.
Something like this, perhaps? http://www.gadgetworld.co.uk/p/Mavizen_BluDock_Bluetooth_Receiver.htm
I'm gonna get this but it the website has really slow shipping times since it's from Hong Kong...

Looks good and a good price too. Pleast post how well it works when you get a chance. Are you running Haykuro?
Im interested in that too.. anyone confirm working?
So considering that godsfilth never posted his evaluation of the Motorola s705 I thought that I would. I figured the specs and price was good, it's still available for $30 from Amazon. Long story short, it works like a charm. For reference I'm now running Dudes .92 with the new radio.
The music streaming connected right away from the default media player. Play, pause, and track changes worked fine. If you hold the "phone" button it will do the voice dialing. I've always found it a bit flaky myself but that's android not the blue tooth adapter.
Once connected it basically acts as the mic and speaker for the phone. The only drawback is that the track controls on the device only work with the default media player. I use mixzing a lot, and the audio comes through fine but if i try to use the controls on the adapter it also launches the default player. I think this might be on the android side though.
Overall, it's well worth the $30.

(mentioned earlier by amgupt01) from DealExtreme for $13. Works like a charm - PlugnPlay. Never again wired headset!
Shipped in 9 days to Sweden (from HK) - actually it arrived to Sweden after 5 days - then the Swedish Postal Service went on vacation, obviously - Not bad, considering shipping is free from DealExtreme.

I just got the s705 in the mail today. The FM receiver works just fine but the BT is a little weird. Like benmyers2941 said, only the default music player will respond to the input from the headset. But when music is playing, every now and then, the playback would pause, then immediately resume at random times. I don't have a clue why. Could the device be faulty, is it my G1, or my FW. I'm running JF's 1.5.
Edit:
I think I have figured out why it was showing these symptoms. I did a wipe and switched to Haykuro's latest and the symptoms went away. After the wipe I realized that I was also running Open Overclock beforehand. If someone could try to use this device while running Open Overclock and confirm/deny that the symptoms are present, then that would point out whether it was the FW or Open Overclock.
Nope. I don't think it's Open OverClock. I think that the device is defective. It will only do that "pause and resume" thing when I'm walking. For what ever reason I can't fathom, it worked perfectly after i made the wipe yesterday. But today, it doesn't work properly. I even put both the phone and s705 in the same pocket. I've tried restarting both while on a walk, but that didn't help. Also, I've had regular conversations on my BT125 with no problem, the same with the default earbuds the phone came with. Does anyone know how I can determine which has the defect?
Well, the usual way - Try the s705 with another phone and/or try your G1 with some other A2DP headset. Can't see any other way to find who to blame.

Hey,
Just a thanks to you guys for the headsup about the $13 bluetooth thingy from dealextreme, just got mine yesterday.
When I heard that the G1 had no 3.5mm jack I was really dissapointed.
As gadgeteer and an audiophile, I was keen to try bluetooth stereo out, but to be honest I wasn't really expecting much (I mean, the G1 doesn't even have a equalizer!)
How wrong was I! Sound quality is excellent, I truely am shocked! I could quite happily replace my Sony mp3 player with the G1 and stereo bluetooth.
This little bluetooth jack will keep me happy until the market in bluetooth headphones explodes after Apple enters the fray.
One comment though, sometimes I can hear the pitch of the audio speedup or slowdown.. not sure if this is the receiver or the phone, not too fussed about it though.
Oh, and having no wires running around your body totally rocks!
Yeah, after a few weeks, I'm still very satisfied. With my use (biking to and fro work) it lasts > one week between charges. Haven't noticed any pitch drift - but then all I listen to is .977 The 80s Channel using StreamFurious. Beats the hell out of any OTA radio station where I live!
One thing - Without using too great force, I managed to pry away the clip - and the spring just vanished into thin air! The clip was easy to put back, but now it's just dangling there. So be carfeul when "operating" the clip.

Maybe it's just bad luck.
I bought one pair of these off ebay and the microphone didn't work.
It's paired and connected for phone and music. Music control and playback is great. When a phone call comes, the music stops and plays my ring tone in my ear. I answer with the button on the side, but this is where the problems start. While in a phone call I can hear the other person, but they can't hear me. The microphone simply doesn't work. I try tapping and blowing to register any sound, and there's nothing.
All the websites say this is supported by the G1, but I'm starting to not believe it. Does anyone have any experience with this? Am I doing something wrong?
Then I bought a pair from Best Buy. Same thing.
Thank you.
The same thing happened to me actually when I was testing out various bluetooth headsets. Looked like a bit of an idiot in town talking to myself haha. I've not had a chance yet to test a different headset and indeed if the recent fixes (look in the development section for the thread by Meltus) actually work.
Well, IDK, because I have Cupcake and it doesn't work. I think I'm just gonna throw in the towel and return the Best Buy one... and use it just for music, not phone calls...
Official Cupcake (OTA) or a modified one? If you haven't already I would recommend rooting your mobile phone and slapping on the Dude build, this along with the Meltus audio mod has fixed the bluetooth issue.
In my signature there is a link to the FAQ if you need instructions on how to root etc.
Oh man. I used to mess with my Wing so much. I had open touch, touch it, thought about ICP, and everything, but the G1 seems like something I really shouldn't mess with. It seems too... integrated.
On top of that, are there any guarantees this would make my s9-hd work in call?

I have the S9 headset and works fine with my phone, i am running JF1.5
s9-hd
i have the s9-hd bought from someone off of craigslist. pairs perfectly and bass hits hard
Hmm... guess I am s.o.l. Maybe I'll give it another shot, but I think I'm just cursed.
The music is great, the sound quality in call is great, but the mic won't connect, or something.
i had the same problem while on JF 1.51 so i decide to try another rom and it been working fine on cyanogenrom idk if ur into the rooting of ur g1 but that seem to be the only fix for me
I am using the S9 SYN1902 A, they work fine for me on jf 1.50 and jf 1.51.
I had some problems with the s9-hd at first on my G1, but have eventually grew to really like it. I wear it everywhere listening to podcast and shoucast streams using Streamfurious. It has worked about the same using the stock mod and now CM 3.8.6.1.
1. first off it didn't fit my head, but kept stretching it before each use and after about 5 days it now fits perfectly and I can wear it for hours without any fatigue or ear strain.
2. You have to make sure that you turn bluetooth on the G1 first for auto-pairing to work properly.
3. I'd like to get an arm case for the G1 because the audio will cut out by having it in pants pocket. I can use it no problem by placing it in my laptop bag on the go.
4. I have had a strange problem with pairing the headset set, but that was resolved by turning off the radio and turning it back on.
Do these have InEar headphones or standard ones?

the first ones (they come with different sized buds)
JJ, they are more like the in-ear version (but I would say they are not quite as tight as other noise-cancelling in ear headphones I have tried - a good balance imho).
I have this set for almost a year now using it daily (while commuting to work, during exercise, commuting home, and sometimes in the evening while hanging out at home). They have really worked great and I have definitely gotten A LOT of use out of them. However I think they are finally starting to flake out on me. They still work, but not the colored light no longer flashes while I charge it, tho it still seems to charge. Also, some other times while working out the volume starts to beep uncontrollably. Turning the headset off and on again doesn't always work, so I think some sweat might be seeping into the unit causing it to short out. After leaving the unit sit for a while (1hr+) it again seem to work just fine. go figure. Also the adhesive on the back of the unit is definitely starting to peel more and more. If I am unable to mod the S9-HD to breathe more life into it I might be back in the market for a new A2DP headset in the near future.
ciao
My Atrix worked flawlessly for the last 6 months on Jokersax's ICS rom and CM9. Last month my headphones stopped working, and a work or so ago speakerphone stopped working. 2 days ago the ear speaker went out. The mic is still working fine, I just get no audio whatsoever.
Any ideas?
It's at a repair shop at the moment, but the guy called and said he's not seeing any issues with the speaker itself.
If it is software, what might fix this? I even tried flashing a new rom with no fix.
My first question is does the headphone out work? I would guess that if the headphone jack audio is fine then you might need to replace or repair the jack on the phone. There is a switch built into it that cuts sound to the speakers when headphones are plugged in. It is unlikely for that to stick, but not impossible. Fortunately. That repair is very easy to do. I have pics of it somewhere. I'll put them online if you need them.
If it isn't that and you can't find audio at the headphone contact points on the board you probably are going to need a new board.

I have pics of it somewhere. I'll put them online if you need them.
If it isn't that and you can't find audio at the headphone contact points on the board you probably are going to need a new board.

Headphone was the first thing to stop working.
My ear speaker also stopped working. I tried flashing different roms but apparently the problem won't solve. My first guess is this is a hardware issue. Try do the same as in order to make sure.
This is exactly what happened to me. All of my audio outputs were shot. But if I whacked my phone against my hand, sometimes the headphones would work, so I'm betting on hardware. I have tried multiple roms but none seem to work. You can try flashing a GB rom, like Neutrino, with a full wipe, just to make sure its not software. GB roms have all of the official drivers needed for this phone, so they would be the roms that most likely fix it, if it is software.
PS: JdgM3NT4L if you could please put those pics of the headphone switch on here or direct me to them, I'd appreciate it. I'd like to see if that makes a difference on my Atrix. Thank You

You know what, I am so sorry that I let this slip. Here are the photos and an observation.
First pic shows the headphone jack from inside of the phone.
I simply removed the battery cover, removed 8 screws and gently pried the back off.

This photo shows me beginning to remove one of the contacts.
This one shows one of the contacts removed.
And this one shows the camera board where the headphone jack makes contact.
And if you want to simply replace the whole jack it comes out easily, those are available on ebay.
If I was not able to repair your problem by taking those pins out and checking them for breaks, and possibly re-bending them back into shape.
I think that I would consider either a new jack. Or a new camera board, since that is the first point of contact. Also that is where I would check for audio. It would be a little difficult getting the battery in place and manipulating the phone to play while it is apart, but doable with enough resolve.
Please accept my apologies for not responding sooner. I really meant to get to this way before now...
Just wondering what the options for adding DAB functionality to an Android head unit are - The FM reception on my unit is very poor.
I've been trying to find info on anyone using a directed HMHD-1000 with an android device/head unit.
Hello.
I work on a Solution for DAB+ in Germany. I have a Calearo 16v DAB+/FM Antenna. So i bought this: http://www.ebay.de/itm/NooElec-NESD...Tuner-Black-/151167807992?hash=item23324db1f8 and put it with Adapter http://www.ebay.de/itm/380790704616?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT at my DAB+ Antenna.

Hey Folks.
My Solution for DAB+ with my Joying Stereo works very well. It should work with any other Android 4 Car Stereo.
What you need - Hardware:
- Nooelec Nano Stick with RTL2832U + R820T Tuner
- in my Case a Adapter for my Calearo 16v DAB/FM Antenna - a SMB/MCX Adapter
Software:
- RTL2832U Driver Playstore
- Wavesink Free for DAB only MP2 Files (Playstore) or Wavesink Plus for DAB+ and Recording (Playstore)
How to:
Connect the Antenna with the Adapter and the nooelec USB Stick. Put the USB Stick in the USB Port of the Radio. Install the Software. Start Wavesink and search for Channels.
Enjoy DAB+ in you Car Stereo.

Cool, thanks.
The only thing I can find close is this..
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-USB-...e-MCX-Input-/201349905111?hash=item2ee163bad7
Do you think this would work with the driver you mentioned? the description says its for windows.
I just dont want to order the Nooelec as it is in the states, and could take weeks to arrive, by which time i'll have lost interest in this project..
Looks good to me. Chips are the same, and the Design looks even.
Excellent, and finally... This plugged into the same usb port where you would plug in your usb hard drive?
Thanks for this information.
Yeah. Just one of the USB Ports. Which One doesn't matter.

I just need to find a decent internal DAB antenna now as the one which came with USB adaptor was very weak, even on the roof.
I had to drive to the top of a hill to get a decent reception..
Thanks again..:good:
You're Welcome. I have this Antenna. The great Signal is worth the Installation Work. : http://www.calearo.com/eng/automoti...tennas/16v-combi-am-fmdab-dab--pno7677932.php
the Installation is in fact really easy. Loose the Screws from the Headlining (German: Dachhimmel ) loose the Old Antenna tie the old Anntena Cable and the new Antenna Cable together and pull the Cable with care to the a Pillar. Fix the Screw from the new Antenna and fix the Cable at the a Pillar behind the Dashboard to the Radio. You need a good Hour or 1 1/2 Hour. Excuse my imaginatively English
Hi Michael,
thanks for this good information!!
Two questions:
1. do I need root?
2. did you check DVB-T as well? (the stick can DAB & DVB-T)
Thanks
Markus

Based on your video it looks like you've got an e46, I'll be picking one up soon so if you come up with a good antenna solution let me know!

I have root through a custom Rom. If you have a stock Rom with Android 4.4 go to factorysettings press *#hct#root# and you got temp root, install superSU and you got Perm root.
I didn't check DVB-T. In Thuringia are only a few Channels from ARD/ZDF. I don't need them in my Car.
I tried allready with the code, but can't install superSU or SU?
Nevertheless I ordered the stick and will give it a try.
With my Joying Rk3188 1024x600 Android 4.4 Stock Rom the Code worked perfect. But it should work without root.

Yeah mate, E46 here..
Still working on the antenna, not so easy with these being built into the rear window.
So got my DAB USB today, but only get 3 stations (the strongest in my region).
Could it be because of the crappy antenna?
