Change Bluetooth connection profile? Car handsfree - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good day.
In my car I have a bluetooth handsfree kit (Sony Ericsson HCB-400) with microphone and conversation through car stereo. It says in the instruction manual for the HCB-400 it supports both handsfree profile and headset profile.
Does this mean I can use the handsfree system to broadcast music over the car speakers through bluetooth?
In that case, how am I able to change the connection profile for the HCB-400 on my phone? Only option I get is "use for phone audio", wich is checked. Didn't do any difference.
Any ideas?

Not sure if it helps, but just pairded the Hero today with my newly purchased Bluetooth Car stereo...
After pairing etc. On starting Bluetooth on Hero, it automatically connects to stero and plays tunes etc. (provided I swtich to the correct Source on the Stereo). If I then try and make a call from the Hero, the Stereo automatically changes mode and works in Phone Mode. On ending the call it goes back to audeo mode.
So in principle, it can be handled seamlessly, but can't say for your own instance.
Easiest option is to just try it and see what happens...

Thank you for the reply!
I understand that you have a car stereo with integrated BT handsfree? In my case, a handsfree kit is mounted on top of the original stereo in my -03 Nissan Micra. Do you have any more options than I do if you long-press the actual BT connection in settings?

Hi,
Yes the stereo itself has bluetooth support...
On the Hero, if I go to bluetooth settings and Long Tap on the actual device connection itself, then I get to a screen that shows both audio and phone profiles with seperate selectable tick boxes.
Both were already ticked...

Do I really have Handsfree profile on 2.06 or what?

I upgrded my imate to 2.06wwe.
I also patched my registry key for the handsfree profile to become active.
I paired my Jabra BT250 headset to the imate, which assigned it the handsfree profile.
I even get the handsfree icon, whenever the imate discover the Jabra headset.
So please can anyone tell me, why I see no difference between headset and handsfree profile.
I suppose to have options such as redial directly from the headset, but it just doesn't work.
Do you think something is wrong?
Maybe something in the configuration?

try to use handsfree instead of headset hardware...

hmmm.. let's think... handfree hardware... ???
I am already using handsfree hardware.
Both imate & Jabra support and enabled for handsfree.

Hi amir,
did you say, you used headset??

We are joking right?
There is no hardware in the world called "handsfree". this is a feature.
The Jabra BT250 headset, support both headset AND handsfree profiles.
Check here. Look under "Supported Bluetooth profiles".
i would say, that headset is a small earpiece with mike in it + bluetooth. however handsfree is a set of separate speaker, mike, it has couple of buttons and it is used mainly in car.
my headset has one button for picking or hanging up phonecalls + volume up/down.
i would say, that every handsfree has two buttons for calls. separate green and red button.
that makes difference for me...
my headset doesn't support handsfree. maybe because it is a headset. not a handsfree.
i don't know about yours...
...so what was the reg hack, you did, to enable handsfree?
do you think, that the problem could be there then?

I'm really not kidding.. )))

Bluetooth Definition:
Chip technology enabling seamless voice and data connections between a wide range of Bluetooth devices through short-range (typically less than 30 feet) digital two-way radio transmissions. Bluetooth version 1.1 is an open specification for short-range wireless communications of data and voice between both mobile and stationary devices. Bluetooth specifies how cell-phones, WIDs, computers and PDAs interconnect with each other, & with office or home phones that are Bluetooth enabled. Bluetooth is a technology, and not a brand. This makes it possible to mix and match virtually any Bluetooth technology device.
The only concern that arises is to determine if the Bluetooth items use the same "profile" to wirelessly communicate with each other, such as "HFR (hands free)", "HS (headset) ", "DUN (Dial-up Networking)", profiles commonly available in many current production cell-phones. An example of alternate Bluetooth profiles available are "FTP (File Transfer Protocol)", "FP (Fax)", "SAP (SIM)", "LAN (Local Area Network)", "SP (Synchronization)", and many Video & Audio Bluetooth profiles.
Many Bluetooth products only support one profile.
Most current production Bluetooth headsets handle the "headset" profile, but no other profile.
Car kits generally support ONLY the "hands-free" profile, and a few (especially Parrot car kits) support "hands-free", "headset", & "DUN" profiles.
The Motorola Bluetooth USB Data unit uses a "DUN" profile.

Bluetooth a2dp & headset conflict

Hi,
I use my iMate Startrek with a set of a2dp headphones (the iMuffs), and I have to manually tell the phone to connect to the iMuffs using a2dp through the "Set as wireless stereo" option in the settings, can this be done automatically?
Another thing is that if I get a call while listening to music, the microphone on the headset doesnt work very well, and I have to shout for the person to hear me. I think that the mic in the headset is not being used. Has anybody had this problem and solved it?
Does anyone know if there are some registry settings that need to be tweaked to get these problems solved?
Thanks a lot.
I use an itech s38 and doesn't have a problem with the mic.
I do have problems with automatic connections.
after setting up properly, if the headset gets disconnected,
the next time it reconnects by itself is always on the headset profile
and mostly only connects if i make a call
So even when no indicator is shown I would assume that seconds
before ther call is answered the sound would be transfered to the headset
that's not so much of a problem
what really sickens me is that if i wanted to
listen to music via the headset when headset profile is connected
i would have to
1.hit the stick once to go to comm manager
2.hit "2" to turn off BT
3.exit to make sure action is done
4.hit center to go to comm manager again
5.hit "2" turn it on (making sure it doesn'ty connects to headset profile first)
6.hit Settings to go to BT settings (hit one or enter to getto that's two presses)
4.hit menu
5.hit devices
6.hit menu
7.hit set as wireless stereo
8.hit done
9.hit done again
10.hit exit
11.hit start
12.hit windows media
13.mess another big while in windows media playlists
..........
now that's too much ... many places i could use the home button
to exit quickly .. that's not what's frustating
what i need actually is a shortcut to the BT devices page
and a smarter profile to connect to wireless stereo for me
without having to turn off headset profile first
I am using HP Stereo Bluetooth headset with my QTEK 8500. It works fine besides the reconnection. If I turn the headset off in order to reconnect I have to go to the BT settings and set the headset to Stereo Headset again. I beleive your problem ocurs because your headset is also a handsfree headset, which HP is not.
I do beleive this behaviour is by design. Although I do not seen to understand the logic behind it.

bluetooth sound issues

it has been discussed before but I still can't get it.
I do have sound via bluetooth in my car when answering a call or initiating a new one.
but I can't hear anything from the phone applications like navigation or musicplayer.
how can I change that?
It has nothing to do with the bluetooth kit in my car as a blackberry worked seamlessly with playing music via BT. Even my old HP ipaq 514 also made sound announcements through BT.
Any settings to adjust?
You must change a bluetooth-setting.
- Comm Manager
- Settings (right button)
- 2 Bluetooth
- 1 Bluetooth
- select your BT car-stereo from the list (don't click)
- Menu (right button)
- 4 ... wireless stereo ... (don't know the English name, in Dutch "Als draadloos stereo instellen")
In my experience, each time you reconnect the device, you have to do this again because it automatically resets to the handsfree setting.
thanks! sounds promising.
but it doesn#t work as expected. the phone is either a BT headset or a BT stereo. not booth at once. hmmm not sooo good
Ok but this will only work if the car supports A2DP, correct? Because I have a BMW and when it is connected that option is not there. The BMW bluetooth module supports just headset profile.
But if I use a normal bluetooth headset I can actually get regular audio out of it some times. The car strictly works with phone calls. Perhaps sometimes audio is sent to it but ignored, I mean it can transfer phone numbers (dial in car screen), phone book so of course it should know how to tell if it is in a call or not?
the features you describe are part of the rSAP bluetooth profile, where actually the car is the phone and only borrows its identity from the phone. totally different story.
so if you do a call actually the car holds the connection to the network. Your phone is only involved as kind of remote sim-card reader.

[Q] Bluetooth Media Audio defaults to On

I want to use the bluetooth phone connection in my VW Golf, but not the media audio connection. I untick the Media Audio option under Bluetooth settings -> long press VWPHONE, but it always defaults back to being ticked the next time it connects. This is annoying because the phone routes the sat nav directions (CoPilot and Google Nav) over the Bluetooth audio connection, and sometimes auto starts the last media file on the phone.
Is there a way to force the phone not to default back to being ticked? Or turn off Bluetooth Audio for all connections (I never use this feature)?

I have a VW golf too with bluetooth on my phone and I am using it for playing song and answers my phone. But not for navigation...
I'am not sure of what your question is... Can you clarify?

My issue is that the sat nav verbal instructions are routed over the bluetooth media audio connection. As I'm not using that function on the car stereo it means I don't hear them. If I turn off media audio in bluetooth settings the nav instructions are routed to the phone speaker and so I hear them, and calls are routed to the car stereo. Problem is next time I get into the car the bluetooth media audio defaults to on, so I have to turn it off everytime I get in the car. I'd prefer it to remember the setting, or just turn off bluetooth media audio completely as I don't use it.
Sounds like you have the same issue that I have with a 2010 Seat Ibiza FR. I've noticed that the kit effectively pairs twice with my Atrix, first as a headset then as a media capable device. This approach means that the phone bluetooth setting will never be retained.
I've raised the issue with Seat UK who frankly aren't interested, and have yet to find any way of blocking the 2nd connection from the phone side.
I'd be very interested in any resolution / workaround you can find; this drives me nuts too...

[Q] Auto-play audio when connect to car bluetooth

Hi.
When I connect to the car bluetooth, music automatically starts, of course even if I did not listen music for days. I am using default Walkman.
How to turn it off?

If I uncheck "connect with multimedia function" in options of Car BT (only telephone function active) problem dissapear. But for me it is no solution.
I prefer possibility playing music but only with manual start, and without switch deep functions.
In Xperia Z it was possible but I forgot how.

No I mean if you check smart connect, it may be auto playing the music because of "event occuring bluetooth connected", don't uncheck multimedia audio in the bluetooth settings otherwise you wont get audio from your phone when playing music or videos etc,
I've got my phone connected to my pc via bluetooth right now and it isn't autoplaying music when I disconnect/reconnect bluetooth (I've been toying around with it) and it seems it'll only autoplay music if I set up the smart connect event.
Please explain where I can find this option?
For now in SmartConnect in Events tab I have four events, all are OFF.
In first tab I have BT headset, charger etc and of course Car BT but inside there are the same options as for ex BT mono headphone.

Hmm, if all the events are turned off then I'm not sure, could it be your car stereo requesting the music to be played immediately on connection?
I checked it out and I did not find any such options, this is rather standard (basic) BT device.
Right I've just been to my car to check if my Z2 plays automatically when it connects to my car's bluetooth and it doesn't, I have to press play on my car stereo or the walkman app for music to play.
I have to ask though, with your original Xperia Z, what version of Android is it running? I ask this because it's only been since Android 4.3 that bluetooth audio and associated protocols have been fully put to use (excluding any 3rd party bluetooth stacks). My One X is on android 4.1 and only responds to previous and forward from the car stereo the same was true with my HTC Desire on Android 2.3. Z2 on 4.4.2 responds to all the controls and also sends song information to the car stereo, the car stereo is a fairly old JVC KD-BT11.
I think it's more likely that your car stereo is trying to play music automatically when it connects and may have tried to do it with the Z (if the Z wasn't on 4.3). This is all just mostly guesswork, otherwise I have no idea why it's happening.
Hmm.. I have update Xperia Z to 4.3 but as I remeber problem was solved on 4.2.2 or earlier.
Thank you for assistance, tomorrow I will inspect car BT options again and I will back here.
Is it possible that Throw function can make a mess?
When I swith ON Bluetooth (even away of car) I see for a while icon of Throw function... and when I connect to car BT I see it again. When I connect mono BT headphone this icon don't show up...
I've check options in car BT - there is option "auto-play BT" but it is OFF all the time...and music starts automatically.
For me Throw function is mostly suspected...
