Guys i am gonna buy the HTC hero IN india.so will be very grateful for ur inputs.. just wanna know two questions:
1. Which HTC ROM update will work with my Indian HTC hero?
2. This is for the people in india...which colors are available in india currently? where i live they say that HTC have just launched the "BROWN" model in india and no other colour..i personally wanted the white one..so does anybody have any info on that?
I bought my Hero locally in Malaysia. It comes with 2.73.728.5, which is tailored to the region, compared to WWE 2.73.405.5. And those WWE updates don't work on my Hero.
I read that Indian hero will also comes with a tailored ROM and most probably those WWE update won't be applicable to your Indian Hero. So if you try to update your Hero with a WWE update, this is the expected error:

So no update will work on your Hero, if I'm not mistaken.
...
In Malaysia, there are two colors available, Brown and White. No idea about it in India though. One sure fire to know is to call your local distributor directly
what do you mean by tailored ROM?? i mean does it already have the latest firmware?? and whats the code of the latest firmware if i wanna check it out??
and i also heard a BLACK HTC hero is coming ...is it true?

i've never heard about such a thing. ROM versions released according to the region with diff numbers is not something new. It has always been like this with htc releases, WWE roms, WWE EE for eastern europe...... SW for sweden, HW for chino i think.... with diff numbers to recognise them. But that doesnt mean u cant flash it to your device.
The only reason why u might not be able to update through the update utility is if you had got the phone through contract or a branded phone.
what is tailored rom????
You can check your at Settings > About phone > Build number. I have a bigger number than the update I tried to apply.
...
I guess I'm mistaken then
My phone is not branded and I bought it directly from retail channel
What I mean by tailored ROM is that, the ROM is somehow modified in certain region/country. My Hero comes with the crippled SlildeMe's SAM instead of Market.
Lousy library.
I bought it with two years warranty but I void it in day 2 by flashing it to another ROM, just to get the Market into my Hero :-(
The reason I failed to update is most probably because of the bold numbers. I already have the update pre-installed to my Hero. My build number is bigger than the 405.5 update but with same Baseband version though.
^^ok..GUYS i am a proud owner of an HTC hero now...got the brown version and i am loving this phone...a little laggy sometimes but it has market on it..
so what should i do now for the official firmware update...mine rite now is
kernel version 2.6.27-8dd6deee
build number 2.73.720.5
software version 1.0.0.A6288
So where do i update from...mine is an european model..
AND just wanted to know one other thing...
my HTC HERO while charging just shows one LED on the right side glowing...but not the left one...is this normal??
Left one is an ambient light sensor that automatically changes backlight brightness to match.
^^Thank u for that info!
and mine is an INDIAN htc hero...so which update shud work for me?? u can see my build number in the previous post..
and another thing..if i m updating my phone and in the middle the internet connection gets lost...will i be bricked or the phone will resume normally??

It's the 2.73 that is the important part here, as the remaining parts indicate the operator and region I believe and 720.5 is an Airtel ROM.
All the latest updates are based on 2.73, so unless you want to apply a custom ROM, or need access to something not on your ROM (e.g. you gave SlideMe SAM instead of Market) you can probably leave it alone.
Regards,
Dave
so this means i have got the latest firmware??
@fox - is there a list that shows what the sub number mean? like how did you tell that 720.5 is an Airtel ROM?

I'm not aware of any list, but I've seen mentions of Magic ROMs on Airtel which have 720 as the third element, so it seems likely.

Only Brown is sold in India. You will need to import a white one, which currently is not sold in here.
^^so its it the latest ROM that we have in INDIA?? update byt HTC i mean..

Well the topic says it, what is the latest
unbranded HTC rom?
HTC has not released any official rom upgrade yet. You can find the Dopod rom in the FTP:
ftp://xda:/Uploads/Hermes
as always, upgrade at your own risk
Yup, been using that for a while now.
Works pretty well, but I like flashing.
Careful... they arrest you for that!
If anyone wants to tell me how to extract my ROM let me know:

Did you encounter screen alignment problem with Dopod ENG ROM?
Could you post a screen shot to show the information including ROM, Radio, Extension ROM... etc.

Thanks. One more question. What is the serial no. of your TyTN?
Mine is HT625F.
Hi,
I'm new to this site and thinking of purchasing the HTC TytN.
When trying to access the ftp site it asks me for a username and password. What do I use?
Thanks

some body have Chinese Rom Version for Dopod CHT 900? thanks so much
hi, does anyone know if the rom on the ftp site upload section "CHT9000_ENG.exe" will work on a german XDA Trion?....im thinking of buying the trion and i need to reflash it to english and also apply the keyboard hack as this device have the QWERTZ keyboard layout.......also on the instructions when flashing, when the error comes up and it says to re do it again.....do u actually have to start from the beginning as in unplug the device etc etc and plug it back in or can u just execute the file as soon as u get the error?......just want to be ready for this stuff when i get my device......hehe.....thanks in advance.
I've just bought a taiwanese CHT 9000. Does anyone here feels that it is stupid for the manufacturers NOT to make a factory HERMES/TyTN/Trion in ENGLISH Instead of making us going through all the risks and hassle?
COME ON! ENGLISH IS THE MOST COMMON LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD!
For the record, my CHT 9000 was shipped with the following ROM, which I believe was ONLY for the Taiwanese market: 1.18.751.2 (Traditional Chinese). After all, "CHT" a.k.a. (Chunghwa Telecom - www.cht.c*m.tw) is a Taiwanese(-only?) service provider. No real need here for English anyway. 99.5% of the locals want Chinese anyway and need the fonts for their contacts aand e-mail. I flashed to WWE and added the Chinese (mostly successful) by adding Monster Chinese 5.3 because I use local GPS navigation (Papago R12).
The English ROM found here (1.23.707.1) works okay for me (need to reset every day or two). It pairs up with an i.Tech R35 stereo headset okay (A2DP) but I'm still not sure about sound quality. Need to test more.
The hardware is HERM200. S/N=HT624F2#####
The keyboard's control characters (as seen in pictures if you look closely) are mapped differently. If these Chinese-keyboard CHT9000's shipped with an English ROM, there would most likely be complaints about the keyboard 'not working' properly.
EDIT: Thanks, Qing84.... my keybard is back to normal after a simple registry edit (using TRE v0.90) and a soft reset!
Personally, I can wait for a fix/patch for this. The on-screen keyboard works fine to overcome the mapping difference.
Now that I'm familiar with WM5.0, I _would_ like to revert back to the original ROM to test it out but it's nowhere to be found. Sooner or later, though, a revision will pop up.
-J Cat
Upgraded to the CHT 9000 English ROM, works perfectly so far apart from the different keyboard layout.
This can be fixed by changing some settings in the registry. It restore local language support for sliding keyboard after upgrade to a different language ROM:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oem\Qwerty
There is a key called 'Layout' and it is in Decimal
The default value of English ROM is 20409, and Chinese ROM is 20404 (both are in DWORD). The suitable value for German Hermes keyboard is 20407 (132103 in decimal), not 10407 (66567 in decimal). Probably Hermes use 20+country ID (409=WWE, 407=German, 404=Trad. Chinese, etc...) format for keyboard layout value.
Edit at your own risk. It works for mine.[/img]

Its Not the Same ROM So please Stop Trolling or I will Ask Dave Shaw to Shut You Down.
I don't see GB=(GREAT BRITAIN) Listed On The Official HTC Website As A Country All I See Is United Kingdom=(UK)
So Im Not Sure your GB ROM ZIP File is Official, The UK ROM I Uploaded However is an Official RUU .EXE
I'm not going to waste time arguing anymore if you want it download it if you don't then that's your affair, These however are not the same ROM'S
Why put an official in a zip?
Oh because yours is a dump ROM right and The one I posted is an "OFFICIAL" RUU.exe wm6.5 Update
No disrespect DaveyNavy - but BeeGee is a well respected member of this forum and has been compiling all of the custom and official roms on his own file mirror.
His questions as to what exactly your file is - are totally valid - and I think you should be a little more tollerant in your replies.
I had the official UK TD2 rom which was the UK one - as an update from T-mobile - but I am pretty sure it is identical to the dumped GB rom that BeeGee pointed out.
On an official UK T-Mobile device - you can use the update RUU that DaveyNavy posted without needing the HardSPL since it is an official update for a locked offical device.
Once you have HardSPL'd your device (and basically what the majority of us on this board have done) it therefore doesnt matter whether you use either.
I hope this helps.

dude ur so lucky the hd2's hardspl is locked down to hd2 roms.. if not you'd be having a brick in your pocket
if you hold down the voldown button at four when magldr counts to six before booting the rom you will see a bootloader of some sort? not knowing how magldr operates, i can assume it's an emulated bootloader=safe to flash from there? anyway, it doesnt show the hspl or sspl version, but an NSPL0.96.2250.0(no idea what this is) and some partition info....

wth?! dude are u drunk or something?

anyhow regarding updates...
i think it will be very difficult, at least initially getting OS updates, i doubt very much that MS will be publishing monthly updates on several different development branches, i would assume, and correct me if im wrong, that it will be more likely to recieve updates to Apps, ability to run other apps, hardware drivers etc
I wouldnt hold your breath for OS changes, until MS releases them and its also worth pointing out that Leo users maynot even be able to use these updates.
Depends on how MS deploys the update. If it's just a generic OS update that changes some dll's than there is a good chance that it will work out of the box on the HD2. If flashing is involved than it will most probably not work and we will need a new ROM.
Right now we can't really know how MS will deploy the update. Given the fact that we know for sure that it will work on ALL current WP7 devices regardelss of model and operator branding, I guess there is a fair chance that they will use a generic patch model. Fingers crossed
After a lot of questions from me to o2 germany over the offcial o2 Forum and Twitter o2 today announced the first Update for the German o2 Flyers.
It is not only the FOTA 2.0 Update from the Europe Flyers. It's Android 2.3.4 and Software Version 2.27.207.1 !
Update comes very soon. Here the original post/tweet from o2:

hi,
good to know, but yesterday i flashed my o2 flyer to the unbranded rom, because o2 took over 2 month to get that update ready. at least they are going up in the version number of android.
but i assume that the official htc updates are coming faster, so i unbranded my device. which worked really easy.

Don´t forget that an official FOTA update can brick an debranded/rooted device! LINK
hi,
nice to know. but i dont think that an official fota update will brick my device.
because there is no hardware brand in the device. its just software.

Some users thought the same with their HTC Desires - and had to pay the service fee to HTC later for unbricking their device. It´s just experience.
Fact is that debranding doesn´t change the internal ro.cid (some kind of branding id) of the device and depending on HBOOT / Bootloader changes in the FOTA update it can brick the device, so that you need special tools to unlock it.
But - feel free to test it!
oh okay. i will test it. when it bricks, i pay.
but when the internal cid doesnt change. do i get the official updates from htc or that from o2 ?
i asked o2 for debranding and they said they can´t do it.
so i did it myself.

The only way i know to possibly solve this issue is to do a data factory reset so the update can be downloaded again after the reset. Maybe someone ale knows a different/easier way.
Checked Nokia Care Suite for ATT, ATT DEV and any Rogers build.... nothing yet. But congrats, some of the updates look nice.
Product Codes
Hi Osso17
Hi, I'm from Italy too - Ciao - just writing in English so the others can understand, maybe someone find this interesting... anyway, I would like to know the product codes of the Lumia 920 that are able to install the Lumia Black Update, so I can download the Firmware with NCS and flash it. Can you share the one(s) that you know?

I also though that the ATT dev rom would have been updated prior to the final push, but I guess not. prior to me using the ATT dev rom on the 920 I was using a french rom, I wonder if that french rom got updated already !!! I will need to boot to windows to run the nokia care suite....

Mine is 059Q9L7, but the latest firmware available with NCS is still Amber. The Black firmware is not yet available on the servers.
updated my lumia 920 uk cv , update went smooth and fast , storyteller got updated as well but beamer unable to install and play to stopped working - redirects you to version which is not available for your device
update
resolved both using the proxy trick ( 103.13.29.118 in the Server box and 8888 ) and setting region settings to usa

Yes, of course. I have Lumia 920 from Poland (059R078), some time i had FW from Australia (059Q9P3) and now i have Germany CV (059Q9L9). You need only to have the same type - RM-821 for RM-821.

Think the Black update might be coming this week as in most European country`s the unlocked 920 is listed as `coming soon`.
I invite European and off course all other users to post it here when you received your Black update.
Thanks gee2012

I can see you're Dutch. My T-Mobile version hasn't found an update yet, what's the cause?

Provider updates take a little longer because of some T-Mobile apps or settings that have to be approved and tested by Nokia.
