Sprint Hero - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok well I've never owned an Android device and I'm getting the Hero for Sprint, with that being said we all know it's a CDMA device so what all could i do out of the box to tweak for best performance?

by that i mean any apps or anything i can do because from my understanding these phones arent rooted yet.

Me Too
I'm also wondering the same thing, seeing I got my sprint hero yesterday....

Grab a task manager from the market, i use taskiller but there are several to choose from. I also turned off sense ui by in settings - manage aps - find htc sense and clear the default. Next time you choose the home menu you will be prompted, select "home" and set default. You are more limited with screens and widgets, but much faster.

Sync Error With HTC Sync & Sprint Hero
When I sync with Outlook on my desktop the Birthday Field and Anniversary Field has the wrong dates. It backs up the dates by one day. Ex. If a birthday is on the 14th on Desktop outlook, it shows up the 13th on my Hero. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Exchange and Gmail/calendar sync'ing

I've played around with this a lot since picking up my Hero last week, and have done loads of forum searching/googling too - but I still have issues.
FTR, I run Outlook 2007 (usually locally because I work remotely from the office) off Exchange.
1) Exchange/Outlook tasks do not sync to the Hero as standard? Is there a way this can be done? I've trialled Touchdown but don't like it.
2) Exchange/Outlook folders are a complete mess when displayed in the normal HTC mail app. I have something like 25 main folders, with each having 2-10 subfolders. But instead of appearing in the correct order, they seem to display randomly, which makes it an absolute pain to find anything. Is there a fix to this?
3) When sending Exchange emails from my Hero, they don't appear in the sent items in Outlook. But strangely they do appear in my Webmail version. Weird? Possible sync problem?
4) When sending gmail emails from my Hero, they too don't appear in th web version.
5) Have started using gcalendar recently. Still can't get tasks to appear on the phone, so have decided to use events to track things. However, when adding events via the web, they appear in the Hero's calendar, but when adding with Hero, they don't appear in the web version. Also, when deleting events on Hero, they don't delete from the web. Common issue? Fixable?
6) When I add an Exchange event on my Hero, that too doesn't appear in Exchange/outlook.
7) Coming from WM6, I was able to set peak/off peak sync times for Exchange. Is this possible with the Hero? Is it a case of "finishing" work and changing the sync settings to "never" or something like that? And then re-enabling in the morning? Not ideal if that's the case. Or I guess you could changes scenes to "social" and have no obvious instance of work-related stuff available? I'm trying this now because I'm on annual leave at last.
If you get this far then thanks for reading I'm mightily impressed overall with the whole Hero experience, and have spents probably a couple of man-days setting it up and configuring stuff, but it's just these little bugbears that are making it frustrating to get everything working properly.
Cheers

Can't delete hotmails on the flyer...

...and other thoughts.
I've set up hotmail as an Exchange Activesync account in the HTC Mail app. Contacts and calendar sync fine, but mail is a different story...
The mail gets downloaded to the flyer, I can view/edit/respond to those mails. But when I delete them, they reappear in the next sync, every time. I've fiddled with all the sync settings but no joy. Anyone else having hotmail issues?

I've only had the flyer a few days, a SE Asia version. I love the size, the hardware. My previous tablet was an iPad, and this is my first Android device. Previously was a longtime user of WinMo, then had an iPhone briefly before switching to WP7. Back in the day, Android didn't seem to play nicely with corporate exchange email so I never bothered.
I figured that in fairness I should try Android...and it is the polar opposite of iOS. It seems you can do anything...but the payoff is that doing it may not be obvious! Of course I love the flexibility and openess, but even for a geek it definately isn't straightforward. Then, I don't know how much of my experience is Sense and how much is Android. I am glad to be iTunes free, at least.
Obviously, it is an over-size phone when it comes to apps, but none of the phone advantages, like phone calls. Roll on Honeycomb! Pretty gobsmacked there isn't skype video chat available, given the prolific FFC devices running android.
So far, I can accomplish anything I have wanted to do (except delete email and skype video calls), but somehow it doesn't seem very neat or slick. Everything feels like a tacked-on afterthought. Maybe I will grow to love it, as I am not going back to iOS...maybe Win8 will do what I need...
I had this problem with the shift I think, it was all about the route you use to set it up. Under accounts & sync you choose mail instead of ActiveSync or something.
Go into your sync settings and change it to sync today only.

[Q] Corporate Calendar questions

I have a HTC Sensation, so I don't have the 'corporate calendar' app on my phone. Can someone who has it tell me if it syncs event categories from exchange/outlook? If it does, I want to see if I can get it ripped out as an apk or something like that. I've been spending most of the last 2 weeks trying to get a calendar month view of pushed exchange event data with text and color coded categories on my android,... and I'm still empty handed.
Found the CorpCal.apk, but can't get it to run... my guess is that it's somehow not compatible with my HTC Sensation on 2.3.5 Trudging onwards....

Calendar Widget since update.

Anyone else have an issue with the HTC Calendar Widget since T-Mobile's latest update for the Amaze?
Previously it used to show me events for things like my friends birthdays using the information from Facebook. Noticed today that it wasn't showing my my friend's birthday. Seems like it just no longer displays that information. Just me or everyone have this issue now with HTC's Calendar Widget?
I've even removed it from the Home screen, and re-added it. During the re-add I confirmed that Facebook was checked/selected still as one of the sources it should get data from.

Mine is displaying just fine.
Are you talking about calendar 1, 2 or 3?
I am using 1.
HTC Calendar Widget version 3.0.2118282653.140764
HTC Calendar version 3.02120283257.184156
View Mode 3/3 (small bar).
Set on first Home screen under the Clock/Weather Widget.
I've force stopped both of the above apps and done a clear data with no luck.
If I go to 'Settings|Account and Sync|Facebook' and then click 'Sync Calendar' to try and force it to Sync it ends up with a Red Exclamation Mark and the text "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." Same appears for 'Live Feed'.
The dates for both the last Calendar Sync and Last Live Feed sync to Facebook show as Mon, Dec 12 2:07PM which is a bit before the phone got upgraded to 1.43.531.3 from T-Mobile over the air.
I've also tried rebooting the phone and have even pulled the battery.
EDIT: Solution Found.
Found this via some posts on the net related to syncing Facebook contacts but appears to have worked for calendar as well.
1). from a PC, Logon to Facebook, hit dropdown on right of screen and select 'Account Settings'
2). Click Apps, then remove permissions for HTC Sense
3). On the Phone, Go to 'Settings|Applications|Manage Applications|All'
4). Find "Facebook for HTC Sense" and click it.
5). Force Stop, then Clear Cache if available, then Clear Data
6). Hold Power on the phone and select "Restart"
7). When the phone boots back up you'll have to authorize Facebook for HTC Sense again and then it will work.
Everything is good now. Calendar, Live Feed, and Contacts are all syncing now (before only Contacts were syncing).
Coming from Runnymede AIO V6 on my Desire and really liked the stock HTC Weather Clock Widget in 4x1. Does anyone know how to port just that widget to say, NRG's 2.27.12 ROM? Attached are screenshots of the widget and the details for it if that helps.
Cheers.

Figured out it is a Sense 3.5 option. Switched ROM's to Xboarder's Sense 3.5 RC1.7 and it is in there.

[Q] Sync issue

This has been bugging me for awhile. On my Evo 3D I have the sync icon at the top of the screen. It is basically there all the time. I have checked to see if anything is syncing and nothing is. I have set to sync FB, FB for HTC Sense, Twitter, 4 email accounts, HTC Sense, Weather, and that's it. I even went to far as to uncheck the sync option for each item and the icon is still there.
I'm on a rooted phone, no custom ROM though, just stock rooted and most up to date (with last week's update).
Saw a few posts online about the sync icon, but nothing like this. Those were legitimate issues where sync would hang on an account. That's not happening here.
Reset makes it go away for a day, but then the problem comes back.
i have the same exact problem here. and i am too on a stock rooted evo 3d gsm phone. when it's annoying i just go to settings/sync and torn off than on again the autosync option and then it stops.. in few hours, days the problem is back.
Try remove the HTC Watch sync in Settings-Accounts and Sync, this happens a lot with the stock rom.
It might be google news that's synching in the background. Check to make sure its on manual check. Also make sure weather is on "once a day check for updates" .

I don't have HTC Watch set up at all, so it's not that. I will try the Google News or weather options and see if that clears it up.
