Hey there
I've just bought the HTC hero and im loving it, although there is one strange thing; when connecting to my wireless router/1.5mbit/500kbit) it's slower than when i run via my mobile net, and it's very noticable in programs like Backgrouns and etc. is there any kind of security options i would need to disable ? btw i have a linksys WRT54GL
regards

Long-time troller, first-time poster.
I'm a network engineer, so I know a thing or two about WiFi and what not but this has got me scratching my head.
For the life of me I can't get my Nook tablet to connect a speeds greater than 54Mbps via WiFi. I've got my Galaxy tab next to the thing and it's connecting at 65Mbps.
It's not an issue of frequency I actually disabled 5GHz spectrum on my AP to check. The AP is a Cisco 1142 dual radio 802.11a/b/g/n WAP. But I've also tried with a Cisco/Linksys e1000, and a netgear what-cha-call-it at a friend's house. No dice on WiFi speeds above 54Mbps
Even my Xperia play connects at 802.11n 2.4GHz speeds.
I'm running 1.4.0 Rooted if that helps. Plenty of reboots to kill a cow if anyone thinks that's the problem.
I'm thinking that B&N have the nook locked to 802.11g speeds.
What do you all think?
Something is up with the wifi for sure. If you google nook tablet wifi problems, you get a ton of hits. I could get my nook tablet to connect to my router but could not get the internet to work on the tablet. After rebooting the router and the nook several times, changing several router settings and doing everything under the son, I finally changed my security from the N to the G only setting ( Dont really remember which is was) and this fixed it. Keep in mind my android phone, my wifes blackberry, my playstation 3, my friends mac book and my in laws ipad have had 0 problems connecting to my router. I think its safe to say its the nook tablet.
Yeah I've seen the issues with the WiFi on Google and even here on XDA, but everybody seems to be having issues with not connecting, or connections get muddled up and they have to reboot their nook.
I'm still thinking Barnes & Nobel deliberately throttled the WiFi to support only 54Mbps max. Although I have no clue as to why they would do that.
yea i think they capped all the hardware cuz even the sound is low but when rooting and using a android media player its way louder
Hmm... I wonder where items like connection speed, and volume would have their parameters kept. I wonder if with Root one could edit them?

Tweaks can be done i think.
Where to look? : system/build.prop and system/etc/
Hi all,
i'm using the official WM6.5 on my HTC HD2.
I noticed when I browse internet with my pc using the HTC HD2 USB internet sharing, the connection speed is slow.
Slow means up to 1/4 of maximum speed.
If I use the same sim (so the same operatore) with the same settings but in a internet key, the connection is faster (and correct, of course).
I've tried in different pcs and i have always the same behaviour.
Some advise?
Thanks
What is max hardware/firmware rated speed on your usb key ?
HD2 max is 7.2Mbps, Maybe worth experimenting with different connection setup software on the HD2 to see if can reap any benefit.
I use WMWiFi Router (now free) & have used it for WiFi & USB internet tethering & found speeds fast on both ...

it's a Vodafone K3765.
So a quad band 7.2Mbps. The same speed .
I'll try downloading WMWiFi Router
Question:
Is there some application useful to check the connection speed directly on HTC HD2?
Maybe always WMWiFi Router ??
Thanks
Pocket speed test, but is essentially same as using a web based speed test.
Also worth checking through advanced phone settings & HSDPA in Advanced Network setting to see all correct.
Installed WMWiFiRouter and it seems work ok.
I haven't done so many test but now connection speed is ok.
Thanks!
OT: why you don't have upgraded your HD2 to WP7.8?

Because if you have over 10 years experience with WM OS then WM6.5.x builds are simply hard to beat for professional use. WP7.8 is awful in some basic functions/flexibility on an original device & has a few issues on HD2. Locked down & minimal setting OS was not the way to go but MS went the Apple route, the smart phone is becoming a dumb phone ...

Hi
Just got my 16GB WiFi Tablet Z running 4.1.2 (build 10.1.C.0.370) a few days ago and I've noticed that while I have my Bluetooth headphones connected (to avoid using those pesky port covers ) the WiFi performance of the tablet becomes very poor and erratic. The tablet doesn't disconnect from any networks, it maintains a connection and the signal strength shows no change but pages become very slow to load (if they load at all) and YouTube videos will not buffer properly. It will then work fine for a few minutes but then have issues and become unusable afterwards.
I've had this issue every WiFi network I've tried. 2 in the house (2.4Ghz) and a 5GHz one along with the mobile hotspot on my phone.
I've never had this issue on any other device I've had (OG Nexus 7, HTC One, HTC One X+, Samsung Galaxy Note, ASUS Transformer TF100) so
I'm wondering if this is a software issue that may be fixed with the upcoming 4.2 update or a custom ROM or is it still there on other ROMs and it is a hardware issue?
Thanks

First Time i connect with Bluetooth (Keyboard) the Wifi connect was lost...i had to restart the Tablet.. I hope it is only a Software Problem
This is a known issue for this specific tablet. It's on the Sony mobile discussion forums for tab z. Bluetooth and wifi work fine separately it's just when they are on together that issues appear. For me, wifi didn't stop working all together, it just took far too long to even load the most basic of websites. No response from one just yet.
Sent from my SGP311 using Tapatalk 4
UPDATE: Just updated to 4.2.2 and from what I have experienced, it seems as if they have fixed the issue. I can use my Bluetooth headphones and listen to music without any Wifi problems
Could anyone else confirm this?

I am still facing this issue.
hey all..
I am having some weird problems with Android devices on my company wireless network.
My company makes games for Android and Ios and we test our games a lot on a variety of devices.
For whatever reason, some of our Android devices, which range from older version Samsung Notes, right up to Galaxy S4, have trouble with wireless speeds.
I am starting to believe its Android mostly because other devices have no problems, such as laptops, Iphone 4s and above, Ipads etc.
When I say they have problems, I mean they tend to lose connectivity to the wireless network and then reconnect, or their speeds are just way too low.
Iphones for example tend to get anywhere between 15-25Mbps when I've tested them. My Laptop is able to get 50 (I realize that a laptop is not a fair comparison).. and yet some of the Android devices here, Nexus 7 tablet, Samsung Galaxy Nexus (4.2.1), get around 1-3Mbps.. Also, my personal phone, an LG Optimus G, running Cyanogen Mod, gets 3-5 Mbps on the same networks as the other devices are on.
I don't understand what could be the reason for this huge discrepancy between devices and its very perplexing. At home on my Asus router, my phone gets a constant 20Mbps always.. and that's just a single router. Here in my office we have a 12 Access Point Wireless grid which provides signal to the enter building.
I have tried many different things, from adjusting the networks to only be G type, removing encryption for testing, upgrading phone OS's and making sure they are their current version.. also adjusting the wireless options such as turning wifi off during sleep, turning off the optimize wireless switch, everything I could think of.. and yet on some devices it just crawls and I don't get why.
Has anyone come across this before? I'm racking my brain here trying to get to the bottom of this ..
Thanks for any ideas and suggestions.
How about reducing the DHCP lease time on the router?
On a much much smaller scale, I've managed to deal with some devices having issues on my home wifi by turning on static IP via the device wifi settings for the connection.

Thanks for your reply.
I will try to change lease time on one of the networks and test to see if there is any change.
One of the devices that i'm having the most trouble, I tried to join after setting a static IP and found the same issue.. disconnecting and slow speed.
this is whats so weird.. I also have a Gtab 3 and am getting 30Mbps down and 30 Up.. its blazing fast, same network, different android version.. but not disconnecting and works fine. It just doesn't make sense.
I also had an Iphone 4s user come up to me and he's having the same trouble. It will disconnect frequently, and when we run a speed test its crazy slow. Meanwhile other iphones have no problems..
I recently purchased a M8S PRO as my android tv box. I upgrade [purchased it] specifically because it supports 5ghz and i thought the wifi would perform better.
However whether Im streaming with the browser or even playing movies off my nas i have latency issues
I believe this is due to the internal wifi chip because i also have a nvidia shield tablet which has none of these issues even if i put it in the same location as the M8S PRO
Should I buy a range extender or a new wifi dongle for it (like this one)?
Does Android support more then one wifi adapter? Will i be able to disable the internal one?
Or should i try a custom rom (i dont see how this will help but maybe im wrong about it being a hardware issue)?
Try various configuration in your router, you can try 20 or 40 mhz bandwidth, maybe disable legacy modes and use AC only, I had issues before with 5Ghz when legacy modes were enabled like A B or G. let me know, as I just purchased this box and im still waiting for it. , also you can check the 2.4GHz band.
regards.
screw these dam things
as far as i can tell the wifi chip in this thing sucks
i put the dam thing right next to the router and its still horrible
topping out at 400-500 kb/s on lan transfers over a minimum presence 5ghz wifi
sorry for late reponse, i was loading lede onto my router and trying other things to fix the issues i have with this device playing items across the lan (via samba)
