This picture is from an HTCpedia news article about the TP2, but I can't find any info about the stand/docking accessory holding the phone up. Has anyone seen this before and can point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
Thats not a Toch Pro 2, thats the Touch HD 2... go to www.htc.com, its currently on the front page... or go to the bottom of http://www.htc.com/uk/product/hd2/overview.html
Your Phone Loves the Road
The optional car kit is striking in looks and in functionality. Designed to attach to most surfaces of the interior, from a curvy dashboard to a smooth windshield, it’s sure to guide you to your destination without obstructing your view. As soon as the HD2 is put into action, the interface transforms for the simplest on the road experience. And when your trip comes to an end, you’ll be happy to know that your HD2 has been charging up for your next endeavor outside of the car.
Awesome! Thanks for the correction and the info.
Found more info here. Looks like it will be and exclusive to the HD2. Too bad.
Thats pretty cool. Would be nice to see something like that released for the TP2. We seem to get screwed on all the good accessories over here.
When I saw it I thought it looked good, like you I think its a shame that there is nothing like that for the TP2

Hi , I get tired of holding the device at reasonable level in front of me while watching episodes/movie during flight.
It seems possible to bend some plastic to fix the HTC to the raised eating tray (jam the "holder" between the closed tray..)
did you see something like this before ? - or any similar solution ?

Not seen one but sounds great!...sounds like you have the idea.
It isn't too difficult to make something like this from aluminium, or even perspex plastic just some considered bending.
I am a steel fabricator(amongst other things!) next time you are on the plane take some cardboard with you and make a dummy one with it, then you can use it later to make one from something more substantial.... and sell them all over the world to Iphone users!
yes, it would need to be a flexible material, yet hold a device without acting too much as a a spring.
I don't think "one size fits all" - it have to be adjustable in height/distance to the user.
Too bad a suction cup won't work.
I use one of these in my car. Works great.

I found !
It's sold as accessory for a certin crappy, censorship, survelliance-device.
- but it works great for Touch Pro2 too !
it's called "in your face" viewbase
you can find it on Ebay
I know there is some interest in these and I myself was waiting for someone to do a write up but I'm impatient and just got mine so I thought I'd throw some info out and hopefully help someone else out since I've already gotten so much out of this forum. The first thing you'll notice is that the plastic feels really cheap. Honestly almost repacked it to send it back because of how light and cheap it felt. That said and in particular because of the lack of alternatives, I gave it a shot. And on the whole I’m glad I did.
Putting it together and installing is pretty easy. I'm a nug and I did it without reading the instructions. Putting the gtab in and taking it out of the mount is also pretty easy. There are two sets of supports; the bottom stays stationary and the top is adjustable and easily fits the gtab in landscape and now that I think about it possibly in portrait too I will also see if my elocity a7 fits in it in landscape but I know it will in portrait (I’ll post a separate review for it in the elocity section if it works). In my prius, the position is as good as I could have hoped for making for easy inputs at stops but it’s not too useable while driving. While driving there is a certain amount of shaking but not too bad I could easily read off it with quick looks but it could be disorienting for some.
Also the cupholder mechanism takes some massaging to get it set well in the prius’ cupholder but it is doable. In my element it’s a whole other story (expectedly). The cupholder mechanism fit perfectly into my e’s cupholder but the cup holder is so low that this mount is worthless in it or any other car that has cupholders below seat level.
At this point I have no idea how durable this mount will be. I don’t know much about different types of plastics (I barely know the difference ABS and PET) but the material that this mount is made of does not inspire confidence. That said the plastic does not seem too brittle and therefore more likely to hold up. Time will tell and I will update as appropriate. I hope this information helps someone out there who was looking for a similar mount.

I bought the same one. Seems a little flimsy with the weight of the gtab. Moves a lot more than I would like while driving.

I have a Prius also. Do you mind taking a few pics so we can see what that setup looks like? thanks!
The next few days are pretty busy but I'll try to get some quick pics up. what year prius do you have? mine's an 09 so I can only speak to the positioning for 04-09s I haven't seen the interior of the gen3s.

It does move around a bit but once I set it super tight, I found it manageable but then I may be more tolerant the others.

The viewing angles have never been that big an issue for me. I personally don't understand what all the fuss is about. in this case in particular that issue is moot since the mount's angle is adjustable.
Thanks for the review and I look forward to the pics.

I have an '05 and my wife an '06. I should be getting my gTablet tomorrow, but I won't be surprised when my wife finally sees it and asks for one of her own
Anyone find a better car mount for the Gtab than the one talked about in this thread? Also what's the deal with all these Gtab owners also driving around a Prius? LOL.
I like the unit, I have a iPad 1 and iPhone 3G, but now use a EVO 4G. I had a Nook Color rooted and it was nice, just wanted the extra power and cameras. The Asus is nice quality, and I do like it, still got some issues with it overall, but I think the keyboard dock will really push me over the top. I have not been able to get any updates. I read about the bricking issue and that it was pulled, but the camera frame rate sucks!!, so I hope it fixes that mainly. I will say that Honeycomb is nice, but will still give the upper hand to iOS. Apple has the polish, and yes I know they have had a lot more time and control it all from start to finish, but they have done a good job. I always say that Google seems to be a company that has the thought process of throw a lot of stuff at the wall and see what sticks. The problem they have is that a lot of stuff is sticking to the wall and someone needs to come in and bring it all together with some nice polish and streamlining. I wasn't getting much battery life, then I turned off the AWESOME water background and now it seems to last a lot longer in standby. The screen is very very good, better than my iPad. Speakers are ok, nothing special. Weight and size is nice, looks and feels a bit longer than my iPad. I laid them on the table and the iPad is a hair ticker, but the Asus is longer. The Google Market has the annoying feature of when I look up a app, it doesn't show it installed already like the phone does. So if I see the Youtube app, it showes FREE instead of INSTALLED. Youtube app is nice. Polaris Office is a nice app also. Not a lot of stuff in the market yet for tablet, I know this will come. Camera seems a bit blurry and white lights glow way to much, but again, I hope the update fixes this. I really want the keyboard dock, anyone know the date or where to get this yet?? I assume it is not out in the US yet? Oh well, just thought I would ask a few questions and post a few thoughts. Did I mention I am really really looking forward to the keyboard dock??? LOL

Found this the other day in my parousing for accesories for the tab but noticed it hadn't been posted here.... decent selection, close to 300 designs.... Stupid cheap... about time i've been looking for a while for more than just the carbon fiber ones.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ViewSonic-G-Tab...tem2a11553fb8&clk_rvr_id=245990579742&afsrc=1
I ordered one of these and in discussion if they had any alternative's that had more of an astronomy type back ground the person i was in email contact with indicated they could make these as customs with a pic that you provided. If that interests any one contact them and see what they might could do for you.
Holy macaroni.
http://www.ridicgraphics.com/2011/designs/viewsonicgtablet/
The first thing I noticed is that 99% of these "skins" are in portrait mode. I use my gTab in mostly landscape mode.
The second thing I noticed is that there is no link to the wallpapers for these "G-Tablet Skins" for you to download and use to blend with the skin on the bezel of the gTab after you purchase and apply one of these. I saw there are wallpaper links for other devices but couldn't find one for the gTab.
So this may be exciting for some folks but I didn't find it useful. What I would find interesting would be skins that could look good in either portrait or landscape mode (like the carbon fiber skin I already have).
Also, since I have my gTab in a CLIP case about 85% of the time I seldom think about the skins anymore.
If you want the skin in landscape just ask them. I'm sure they'll accomodate they offered me the ability to make a cutom from a pic that i sent them... i wanted an astronomy theme.. but decided on #246 ...
the back ground.. you download the one for the NOOK color list under "ebooks"... it's an android tablet after all... (you'll have to do some creative cropping to get it to fit right)
I can't find a way to lock the wallpaper in landscape, is that possible? In other words, I want to be able to use my tablet in portraite mode but have the wallpaper still be in landscape mode so it still matches the skin.
I havn't figured out a way... may be there is an app that allows you to have multiple wallpapers... one for landscape and one for portrait...I remember seeing something along those lines somewhere... it may be a feature that is specific to certian Launchers also.. did a quick search and there was an app but it wasn't rated very well...

yeah i saw that somewhere too i thinks its something like multipicturelive or something.......
HOLY COW!!!!!
If the selection from the Ebay dealer listed above wasn't quiet what you're looking for.. a shlew of skins turned up in a search on Amazon this AM... check it out... a bit more pricey.. $17.95 ,still not bad compared to the $30 selection we used to have.... but a TON more designs......
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...VIEWSONIC+GTABLET+SKIN&ie=UTF8&qid=1310642213
Did anyone get theirs made? How did it come out? Does it cover the sides like the carbon fibers do? I only ask because I just bought a P3 case on eBay and everything's going to be covered (even the left speaker ) except the sides where the power button is and the other side. Thanks if anyone can help
has anyone gotten these yet and tried them out? i really want to know about the quality and stuff cuase i was interested
I got #246 the grill looking one from the ebay store.. and no it doesn't cover the sides.. there is about a 1/16 inch (1.5mm) around the perimiter on both the front and back... wich is desirable on the back, keeps it from picking up and collecting dust and swarf... the front is ok.. i would look better benig all the way out to the edge.. but the guys at ridic graphics (ebay store) said that they were having issues with people stretching them while they were putting them on that's why they cut the perimiter in a bit.. graphics look pretty good.. not grainny at all... applied easy enough, though a second set of hands made it easier, someone holding the skin up while you locate it is ideal...... over all i'm satisfied...
thinking of seriously getting one from the amazon store because of the astronomy backround selections they have.. if i do i'll comment on them as well...
About time someone started making these. Anyone have a picture of the fit quality once its installed?
I posted some pics in my original thread on Android tablets forum...
they show the bo-bo'd bezel cut line but Ridic graphics sent me a replacement that makes the gap around the top skin more uniform..

Now that I`m getting my dongle I`m wondering if anyone out there has tried a car mount for their Prime. With the large screen and now functional GPS this would make a phenomenal in car GPS unit. My only concern would be damaging the Prime due to a bracket not supporting it properly causing it to fall. Anyone`s experience would be appreciated.

I have this one from Arkon, and love it. The extension arm rests on my dash, and the suction cup is relatively low on the window. I have never experienced any problems with the Prime falling out, or the whole mount falling down, because since the arm rests on the dash, there is minimal weight applied to the suction cup.

Love the sticky pad it has. Same sticky pad that is on the mount for my HTC phone. Same sticky material that the whacky wall walkers had in the 80s. sticks to ANYTHING. Still waiting for it to come in .... was very hard to find on ebay, its the only one of its kind that i found after days of searching for a non piece of crap.

I haven't got my dongle yet, but the tabs that hold the Prime are adjustable, so I'm guessing that they can spread far enough apart for the dongle to fit.
If someone can measure the length of the dongle, I can measure it.
Bob
I just measured my dongle.....man that just doesn`t sound right. Anyways it`s 7 1/8 inch wide. Can you let me know if this would fit with your mount. I`ve looked at tons of mounts and yours seems to be one of the better solutions right now.
Thanks

Well, the spread on the mount tabs only gives about 4" of clearance. BUT, in reality, you only need one tab on the top holding it. Attached is a pic of the keyboard (since I'm using the TP for the pic and it shows the edge of the dongle area) and the keyboard still holds solidly in there. Also notice my mounting. The extension arm (adjustable) rests on the dash, so, with the tablet supplying a downward weight, the suction cup would be "pushed" into the window so it's not like phone/gps attachments where everything tends to pull it off the window, the TP is actually doing the opposite.
The tabs are spring-loaded, so in order to insert the TP between the tabs, you would insert the top of the TP, push upward, then slide the bottom in.
I can't really tell you the force required, but it's definitely not minimal.
I think that the TP, in the mount, would stay in position even in a front or rear end collision.
I made one search my user name & you will find photos here

Looks legit tho
I received my Arkon windshield mount today. With the dongle attached I can use all 4 feet of the bracket because the bottom of the bracket is spring loaded and easily accomodates the dongle while still keeping the tablet very secure in the mount. I haven't tried it in the car yet but the build quality seems quite good.

Did you get the same one I got, or did you get one of the variations? I was wondering if you ever got one after looking at the different options. I know that I am very happy with mine.
If you don't have a Nav program, I strongly recommend CoPilot Live Premium.
There are a couple of threads here that discuss the different options.
Bob
I got the same one. Really like the build quality and it holds the tablet very securely even with the dongle. I am trying to decide between sygic and copilot. Reviews seem to be fairly evenly split. Its too bad there is no copilot trial. I've been playing with the sygic trial and really like it.

I'd suggest going to the CoPilot site and take a look at the video. From what I understand, all the add-ons for Sygic make it more expensive then CoPilot Live Premium....and I would definitely recommend the Premium over the standard.
You might want to take a look at the comments in this thread....Quite varied

Quick update....I took my tablet for a spin in my car this afternoon. The mount is really solid and secure. The tablet is not going anywhere. If anyone else is looking for a car mount this is definitely a great option, especially at $40.
So I ended up purchasing Co-Pilot Premium and unfortunately I was really disappointed in it. I did a lot of reading of reviews and watching video reviews and it seemed like a great deal and I really good piece of software. However, the Canadian maps are ridiculously out of date. I live in a rural area of Ottawa (the capital of Canada). My house was built on a new street 11yrs ago and the street isn`t even on their map. I have also quickly noticed a few other road changes that were made in Ottawa at least 8yrs ago that are not reflected on their map. I really like the program itself, it`s fantastic...but with the map being so out of date I`d be hesitant to rely on it for a trip. I have contacted Co-Pilot and requested a refund due to how badly out of date their Canadian map is....but I`m not holding my breath.

I am surprised that their Canadian Maps are so out of date. However, they are not alone in this issue. My niece moved to a new house (similar situation) a number of years ago. So long ago, I don't remember the dates. But I had the same problem of finding her....I used Google Maps, Mapquest, Navteq Maps, Teleatlas Maps...None of those companies showed her development till very recently.
Do you know that other sources have your street identified? Maybe you're in the same boat I was...where nobody has it.
CoPilot does have a nice feature where you can identify map errors. They will check them out and fix their maps accordingly. You can submit a map Update on this page
http://www.copilotlive.com/us/support/
or even in the app itself, by going to "MyCoPilot" then selecting "Submit a Map Improvement".
FYI: Most map changes take close to a year to get to the consumer. Navteq will make changes, then quarterly will send them to the software vendors. The vendors then massage the data to meet their program requirements...After all that, it is eventually released as a map update.
I'm not sure that Sygic would be any better, and avoid NAVFree for now....They showed my location in the 'wrong town"
Bob
Yeah I was shocked. My address and all the streets around it were on google within a year. They're also on my Garmin and have been for some time. I have submitted the corrections to them and opened a support ticket as well. Sygic shows all these locations properly as well.
