Light - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, our heros must have a light meter of some sort in them because of the auto backlight feature. But tricorder shows no data for light and the android sdk looks like it hasn't been implemented yet.
How can I get access to the data from the sensor?
Thanks

Anyone? Tried a simple app that registers a sensor listener for SENSOR_LIGHT but it never outputs anything!

It does indeed have a light meter.
This is the little LED looking thing on the LEFT of the phone at the top.
Directly opposite the actual LED.
If you cover this over when having selected auto backlight, you will notice the screen brightness change.

Thanks for the response, good to know where it is! Still having no luck accessing it through code! Downloaded the hero kernal to have a look in there but don't know where to look!
Really frustrating as there must be a way of using the hardware!!

1) write your own driver... which is probably beyond your capability.
2) smash it in with a screwdriver... pretty stupid
3) open the Hermes up and unsolder it... smarter, but voids your warranty.
that my friend is about it.
or... change the registry. Not the precise control you're looking for but this will shut off all LEDs if you're annoyed by your bedroom looking like a UFO landing site at night:
[HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\AllLEDMgr]
"Index"=0
Note! Disables vibrating too.
VJImpoto should be a safer alternative to the screwdriver method.
However, AFAIK, on the Hermes disabling the driver is not permanent, it has a habit of re-enabling itself from time to time.
There are other solutions though, but at least for me, I haven't had the time to re-write VJImpoto to address this caveat.
Also try VJPlumBum for a brief orgasmic spasm.

Hey Sleuth,
On my way the vibrating function still works.
I just place it face down so you won’t be disturbed by aliens.

"[ROM] MiniCM7-2.1.7 [28/12/11]Gingerbread 2.3.7/CM7.2" Addition / Keyboard lights
Hi,
Happy new year to all of you & Special thanks to nobodyAtall for this great ROM.
Since I can't post to his thread directly I have to post here. I followed the thread carefully and have an addition to the keyboard backlight problem:
The settings in the phone do indeed work. However, the sensor in my Mini Pro sometimes has "-1" as value which is not covered by the settings with start with "0".
The keyboard lights then do not work since this sensor value is not covered. Setting the phone to sleep and sliding out the keyboard makes the sensor working again most of the time.
I am trying to figure out when exactly this happens so you maybe able to find a solution to this.
I think some of those that have the keyboard backlight problem maybe facing the partial "sensor -1" problem which I have.
Maybe this post could be moved to the correct thread.
Btw, I can't find the "Thanks" button. Where is it?
It seems to me that this always just happens when awakening the phone in an area where no light is shone into the sensor.
No matter how i try it, after waking up the phone, the light sensor only starts working after light is shone into it
One time, I even managed to get it stuck at -1 with the kb lights on and not turning off anymore too btw
aand the thanks button should be next to the buttons for quote, multi-quote and edit btw
Hi Carpe Dimi,
thanks for replying. If I understand you correctly this is some sort of bug in this ROM which needs to be fixed. Or is this a problem in the kernel or the hardware? Something does not seem to read out the sensor values correctly.
Its somehow paradox that light needs to be available to get light ...
looks like i have to carry a torch light to light up the sensor
fun apart, i too have no lights on the keyboard. so just using like an ordinary X10i mini phone.
Maybe this is usefull for someone: you can also shine an ir light like your remote control into the sensor to make it work again.

black tape it or use permanent marker
Hello,
I think ales47 is searching for the possibility to turn off LED only while charging. Otherwise, in normal use, he wants the LED to work normally.
Is it possible to turn off the LED only while charging phone?
Yeah i too think of the same thing. actually the green light is very much bright than the yellow one. i have to keep it upside down to keep the light off. other than that i have no idea to consider you.
or you have to use a light form or something (that it wont hurt the screen) when you charge. and the miss call notification is very annoying at night too. every flash will kill your sleep slowly. i have to clear the notifications before i sleep.
Any other suggestions?

Seriously, you are very helpful to us
haven't tried it out myself, but in settings - profiles you select a profile, and the last option PHONE, the last option again is LIGHTS MODE and is set in no override.
You could create a profile for the night with the setting switched to OFF.
Hope it works

I once tried the profile thing but i had no notifications. but this is regarding a light steadily lighting. i guess it is for the notifications only.
I don't know why it bothers you at night... at some point I can't even sleep without having light on phone... Put a tape over the LED? I just think it's not possible to change this...
Hey bro you really should search before starting a new thread
Have a look at this, i suggest you read the whole topic.

[Q] WT19i / LWW auto adjusts screen brightness ?

Hi,
Since a couple of days I've noticed that my screen flickers sometimes.
Mostly when I'm moving my hand while holding the phone...
Is it possible that the light sensor auto adjusts my screen brightness ?
If so, how can I turn it off ?
Thanks in advance,
Niels
If you have rooted the phone, you can install Disable Auto Brightness for Xperia phones. or you can disable it manually editing the file /ect/hw_config.sh.
Search the forum for the tutorial
Thanks for your answer !
So unless you start rooting or changing files there's no way to stop the flickering ?
Unfortunately, no. By the way, this problem usually affects st15 models... as far as i know, you've been unlucky
Okay, I'm sure now that it's really because of the lightsensor and not just a problem with my screen.
I was standing near a window and when I put my finger on the lightsensor a few times the brightness was clearly automaticly adjusted...
I'll look for the tutorial, thanks for the info !
Other solutions, if any, are still welcome though

Hey, my ST15i does also automatically adjust the brightness....it's not a problem mate When i am outdoors the screen get brighter but when i am indoors my screen automatically gets darken
Yes I now, but I find it annoying, it gets flickery sometimes..
I want the screen to stay on the brightness I've set.
today I was wondering why this phone doesnt have auto brightness adjustment feature, because I have to manually turn brightness to zero when using phone while on bed at night. I looked into settings and no such feature found, I wonder the light sensor actually works
Yes it does, I've tested it.
Try standing near a window or holding it near a lamp and put your finger on the sensor... (The screenbrightness may not be set to 0 if you try this..)
I too find it strange that there's no possibility to set the auto adjust on/off..
Niels
I don't think there is any auto-brightness option in LWW as I've not found any. if there were any then they would have provided an check box option turn it on/off. but the brightness ups and downs happens to me to specially when i've put the brightneww to lowest level at night. could not explain myself.
yup it works (just checked thru window operation )

The fact that you can't turn it on/off doesn't mean it doesn't work. Actually, the auto-brightness is always on. You can disable it manually editing /etc/hw_config.sh or using the app Disable Auto Brightness Xperia. You need root anyway.

LIghtflow work for you? Non-Rooted? (Resolved)

I seem unable to get Lightflow working. Anyone having success? (I'm not rooted).
If so, can you share what all you had to do to get it going?
I use light manager, and it works as promised, I am also not rooted. (SD). I haven't tried light flow, but I can confirm light manager works with most of the colors

Hmmmmm.....must be some setting problem. Just tried Light Manager, and it doesn't work for me either

I'm using Lightflow and it's working as usual for me. Didn't have to do anything special to make it work.
Thanks for the input guys.
Turns out that me LED indicator setting under was turned off. I believe i dud that SetdudLdudevice on initial setup, thinking i was turning off charging LEDs, and that LF had its own control.
I'm good to go now, and feeling a bit embarrassed ...
Anyone else having problems with the LED being shut off after notifications are dismissed? I have all my Light Flow notifications set to stop after I clear the notification from the notification bar. But it's not working. I'll try contacted the developer.
Weird, not had that one.
But I have noticed several problems with Lightflow. I have contacted the developer, but no respose as of yet.
With Lightflow, things I've noticed is:
1) When added a new Notification, if you test it, the LED colour does not match the one you've selected. But it'll still work for the notification.
2) Colours in the Cyan range don't seem to be replicated corretly - but I don't think that's to do with lightflow. One my phone (SM-910F in black) there's a fine, wire mesh kind of pattern over the surface of the phone, which covers the LED. Seems to distort what colour comes out.
If I look really closely, I can see a hint of the correct colour if that makes sense. Not sure how a developer could sort that out, as the program is probably working correctly.
Pretty much Sea Green, turqoise, teal, light green all seem to come out as Light blue. Even using the hex manually still results in this. Same with Light manager too. Really really annoying!
Of course it could just me my old eyes playing tricks one me!
3) Sleep mode doesn't quite work properly. If you set it to disable vribrate only, and leave everything else on, it disables everything, not just vibrate. A small issue, but hey, I'd like to use the feature.
Apart from that, it works perfectly. So nice not to have to switch on accesability to get it to work
