g1 key problem - G1 Accessories

My g1's DEL key is stuck, I have to press really hard to use it.
Does anyone have similar problem? Any solution?

A new keyboard would probably be the answer as it is the only key that is malfunctioning. If it were the whole side of the keyboard I could see it simply being bent a bit, but it doesnt sound like that is the case.
And by keyboard I dont mean the part you see, the button area is a separate piece behind that. Fairly easy to swap out if you are careful and patient.
If not, send it back to HTC and there is a good chance it is under warranty still.

Heres a link to a Pcb Keyboard, Should be what you have to problem with...
http://cnn.cn/shop/tmobile-inner-keyboard-p-5056.html

i was expecting solutions like opening it and remove obstacles...
no warranty for me as my g1 was imported, i was too eager for android
i brought my g1 to beaches a few time so i won't be surprised if some sand got stuck in the gaps

Well, Go on amazon and buy a torx screwdriver(s), For THIS MANUAL/GUIDE. Page 18 has the tools you need, I would also recommend latex/Hospital gloves + Compressed air...... good luck. What were ya doin with it?.... shoveling and making sandcastles....

opening the g1 just takes a bit of patience, I've opened about 6 now, and my primary one a few times, once to replace the pcb board for external speaker issues. I did have some dirt on my keyboard pcb board which caused 6 characters to show up everytime I hit the "a" key, and once i cleaned it with a non abrasive lens cleaning rag it worked fine. just be extra careful of the ribbons and the connections from the lcd housing to the mainboard(which you have to remove to access the screws to remove the keyboard.) goodluck

Keyboard Issue
My keyboard doesnt always type a space when pressed.
Only if i hit the direct center of the spacebar the sides arent as sensative anymore.
Is there anything I could do?

Same problem with the space bar
I have to hit ini the center.
I tryed to open G1 without the kit, and i failed (isn't easy).
It's very annoing when I write
If I decide to keep G1 I'll buy the kit to open it, and maybe a new keyboard too.
But Sholes/Droid/Mileston is asking me to buy itself (but.. I buy g1 only 5 month ago )

I solved the problem!!!
I used this: http://www.duecielectronic.it/g20.htm on the keyboard, without open the phone!
The product is a dry contact cleaner (by the way it's liquid.. but it's work.. I used removing battery) and I used on the keyboard without open the phone.
Now my space bar is perfect!!
!! Before the contact cleaner isn't evaporate, the keys seems broken (you can't press them, because there is the liquid.. I have pressed keys so the liquid moved and now the key are perfect)!!
Sorry for my bad english!!

yep
My d and f keys get stuck and sometimes the get some how double pressed, e.g. dd ff df

O2 XDA II Broken Power Button --> Bootloader Mode

Hi all,
I have an O2 XDA II which was flashed last year to WM2003se.
Now I would like to upgrade it to WM6.1, but I cannot enter bootloader mode (using [Power Button] + [D Pad] + [Soft Reset]) because my power button is broken. This means, I also cannot do a hard reset, unless I remove the battery for a long time.
The phone otherwise is working quite well.
Is there any other way to enter bootloader mode?
Thanks in advance!
First, some advice. Several people have asked this question and it has been responded to in other threads. On forums, ALWAYS try and use the search function before asking. It might save you some time, and it also may give you further ideas or solutions to the problem. Now on to the response I gave someone else last year. Read the whole post.
IT IS POSSIBLE!
BUT DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGED OR FRIED PDAs
I know because I myself have done it on an I-mate (Himalaya). It took some trial and error but I am now running WM6. In my case though, I had to completely remove the power button from the device. The previous owner dropped it on its head, and I got it for free, unfortunately most of the top is missing, including the power button.
SO, on to how I did it. I took a paper clip (metal) and put it about 1cm down, slightly to the right of where the power button used to connect to the motherboard. Make sure you have turned your XDA/IMATE on before doing this. You'll find that when you find the right area, your device will turn off, or the screen will go dark (like holding the power button for a second or giving it a quick tap).
If you manage to hold it there for the right period of time, while pressing the other bootloader buttons, then you will be able to enter bootloader.
This took me close to an hour to get just right, on both occasions I have done it, but it eventually worked.
Note: I have no idea how exactly this worked, but it did. My IMATE was useless without me updating the rom, so I had no worry about frying it if I did something wrong, that is why I was OK with playing around with its insides. BEWARE that you MAY DO DAMAGE to the device.
Good luck.
Hi my power button is broken too.
I'd love to upgrade to WM6 but can't get into bootloader mode...the paper clip approach sounds risky!
Is there an application that can get me to bootloader mode? I've searched but come up with nothing.
Any ideas?
I tried everything before doing the paperclip trick, it was the last straw for me. I did a pretty intensive investigation to other possibilities but couldn't find one.
Maybe you can find something that was a similar shape to your power button? It is a long shot but it may work. If the power button isn;t completely broken off you may still be able to use it.
Thanks Jadel.
Naaa the button has completely come off.. on its side..facing the front of the XDA. Interesting to see that other people have damaged the power button.
I might give it (the paper clip approach) a go and see how it goes.
Thanks,
Taz

Same power button problem here... I found this thread and it inspired me to another idea that works very well. I disassembled the unit according to instructions I found here in other threads. I found my button was broken off from the motherboard completely and in addition it was mechanically so damaged that is was unusable for resoldering. I disassembled the (very small) switch under a microscope and it is basically a small round steel disc that works as a spring. It "clicks" when you push the center of the disk. In the center of the switch is a contact point so when the disc is pushed it makes contact and when released it clicks back. (works like the clicking frog we used to play with as a kid). It solders onto the motherboard using 4 solder pads. The two top pads are both connected to the ground plane of the motherboard. The bottom ones are 2 separate contact islands and are not connected to each to each other. (infinite resistance between them). I soldered 3 wires onto the pads, one ground and both lower unknown contact pads. Brouhgt the wires out through the broken button hole in the cover and YES, it works like a charm. If I connect the ground wire to the lower right pad it switches on and off and I can also hard reset the unit. I have not found out what the function is of the other (left lower pad) connected to ground. Maybe it has to do with holding the button longer then a second to switch backlight on and off. In my case I cannot find any functionality. I can now manually short the wires or I can solder a small microswitch to the wires and flash my original QTEK 2020 to WM 6.1. I am going to try that this week end. Anyway no unreliable fumbling with a paper clip.

[Q]Opening hd2 to fix keypad

I recently purchased a mint condition HD2 however I noticed pressing the edge of the back button also sometimes presses the power/end call button. I already read up on opening the hd2 but is it easy to remove the keypad from the screen?
look at this
Diassembling: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL-jnUKufC4&#038
Assembling: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8Q7mXdcJ54&#038
Removal of the keypad from the digitizer/screen is in that video..? Not sure if srs
Yeah, removing the buttons themselves is like the 2nd or 3rd from last step, and removing the underlying part that the buttons contact is the step after that.
It looks horribly complicated in the video, and that's under perfect conditions.
You own a dog? Imagine a dog hair getting in there...
And you know how it looks easy in the video and then you try it yourself and it all goes wrong?
My buttons have the same behavior as yours, can be kind of annoying, but if you get used to pressing them squarely, you'll hardly notice it.
I wouldn't risk taking it apart, maybe I'm a wimp

[Q] Volume keeps turning itself up

When ever I have the phone on the volume will keep turning up stopping me from doing anything on the phone. I tried restarting it and it has been fine for about 4 months and not covered by warranty since bought from someone has anyone else seen this problem.
If so how could I sort it out. It has had a custom rom and hspl from when I bought it meaning it was fine when he had it as well but now the phone just won't stop turning the volume up.
Thanks if you can help!
I wouldn't know, but it sounds to me your 'volume-up' button 'hangs'.

This is the weird thing the rock switch is fine. Guess may just have to take it in for repair or sell it and get the HD7
Loved this phone
"My stuff doesnt work, ah well too bad i'll just send it on ebay"
I hope ur being 100% transparent and warning potential buyers...
I much prefer the old style of presentation of the HD2 than HD7, plus i love physical buttons So will never switch my HD2 for HD7, even if it was possible to do so for free
The volume buttons may be misaligned/shorted by some conductive residue. If you're up to it, open us your phone and peel out the white portion above the volume buttons, cleaning the contacts with alcohol and realigning the metal buttons if necessary. Just be careful not to over-bend the flexible ribbon cable that attaches the volume buttons to the mainboard. This should solve your problem.

[Q] Menu button flashing issue

Hi to everyone in this forum. I've recently received as a present a new toshiba folio 100, but, since I'm experiencing an annoying menu button flashing, I've thought of it as a software problem so I upgraded the folio using the foliomod1.3c and applied the rotate patch and also the 1.3c fix patch. The menu still flash with no apparent logic. I've tried to kill all applications running and it's still there. It seem to come up and down at random. I ask to all in this forum: do you believe it's a hardware issue or is a software issue? Because if it's a hardware issue I'm going to try to have a new folio from toshiba. I'm overall very pleased with the work that Dexter made to make the folio an usable machine but this flashing is driving me crazy. I use the folio basically as a portable scientific pdf reader so I need to concentrate on what I read and this flashing is really annoying. I would like very much to thank you all in this forum in advance for all the suggestion/help you could provide.

I have a request that serve All those who suffer MENU crazy button .
Is it possible to prepare application you can setting ON/OFF the MENU button
Most of the time useless button.
sometimes button jump after 10 minutes, sometimes after an hour
Usually I fix the problem by changing the settings with FolioButtons 1.1.
If you could add to FolioButtons on/off operation for menu Buttons was the best.
Hi teknoraver,
Can you add enabled/disabled menu button in foliobuttons application ?

I am pretty desperate about this issue, because none of the methods seem to help...
Right now the buttons work opposite- Menu button flashes mad and none of the other 3 responds...dont know how it happened
Just a thought- while the folio is booting up the menu button ALREADY flashes! I have zero understanding in there but isn't it a process that loads / starts early in the line?
I appreciate everyone's effort trying to solve this bug as it makes this handy tool a useless pile of crap.
I was wondering how many folio users are suffering of this crazy buttons madness.
Mine was crazy from the very beginning; I sent it back for repair and toshiba only did a firmware restore... Nothing changed at all!
It makes my folio almost unusable!
bye bye crazy buttons
After two weeks of testing and a complete breakdown of my folio100, I finally find the problem or just crazy buttons and freezing of the screen.
I drag a thickness in the screen in the bottom right corner of the screen to isolate the audio connector and it works better than a miracle again.
The only downside is that the screen comes out slightly from the slot but nothing really bad.
The thickness I put slightly too big or-1.4 mm I'll Demount next week to put a finer and I'll try to take pictures in passing.
Note however that the loss of waranty is innevitable.
Sorry for my bad english ;-)
I think it's a hardware issue and even a build quality issue.
If i hold my folio at the side of the buttons, i get the flashing buttons problem (even the foliobuttons app will not help), if i hold it at the other side, i've got no problems at all.
Do you have an animated background? Because I saw that some people had this issue with an animated background...
Hi Mshr73, nice first post indeed
Could you post some pictures of what you did?

I really don’t want to be too quick on this, but Dexter’s 1.4 seems to bring relief to this issue - for 2 days I have been running this mod the menu button stopped flashing!!
Any similar impressions on this?

No way pal, I guess I'm in the opposite situation. It still happens to me, and sometimes I think it even got worse... well, I can always look at crazy keys as a "special feature" that no other tablet will have!!!
I just tested without thickness under the screen, with foliomod 1.4 and after a few hours I again the problem of crazy buttons.

Well, I just finished dismantling e reassembling my Folio. Following your hint, I cut a piece of paper and put it between the audio connector and the back of the screen (yes, it was metal vs metal). I'll see whether it's gonna work or not. Crossing fingers for now.
Not that I'm so confident in leaving a piece of paper stuck right where the DC input is .
BTW, did you try with a smaller thickness? Even if this is the problem, I'm wondering whether a piece of paper would be enough or not.
thyself can someone. post pictures of before and after details?
we will be much appreciated
i didn't have the crazy buttons issue this far in 2 weeks, just my home butten needs to be pressed harder. I'm pretty sure it's hardware related, i read often that users experience it when changing from an warm room to a colder one, or in regions where its verry humid(some circuit closes maybe...). so Mshr73 is on the right way as far as i can tell.

Anyhow, it is so disturbing, that I was already considering to send the tablet back to Toshiba...
I'll try to do this weekend if I do not have too many customers. I post the result Monday.

I'm looking forward to your pictures, too... because my trial simply didn't work.
I tried with both a single piece of paper and then with 2 pieces wrapped in tape. I put these spacers between the back of the display and DC/audio connector.
In both cases, the crazy keys phenomenon started to happen after 15-20 minutes of usage.
In most cases, it starts to show when I unlock the device. As soon as I unlock it, home and menu buttons light up with no apparent reason and go crazy for 10-30 seconds.
Then, I even tried to loosen just a little the screws (I read, somewhere in the forum, of a guy who said that he solved his crazy keys and screen lag problems this way). I mean, all screws are now locked but not too tight. Well, I have to say that I don't have any screen lag anymore (I even removed the piece of paper, from the battery area, which used to solve the issue before) but crazy keys still happen. I'm going slightly mad

I think that to raise the screen to solve them but I'm still not 100% sure.

[MAYBE FIX?] Home button gone bad

Hi,
Got my s2 pretty much as soon as they were released on o2 and it's been great until now, but the home button has just become 'rattly'. There's more movement and noise before the button engages, as if something has broken underneath it.
Anyone else experienced this?
Just hoping o2 will replace with a new phone, and not refurbished..
Edit:
May have fixed this - I pushed left and right sides of button with both thumbs reasonably firmly (but not hard), and the button seemed to click back into place..
Bought mine on the 5th of may, no noise/rattling here.
Spoke to o2 and they're happy to replace, but have no stock now..

Bit worrying that this isnt an isolated problem.
Would be interested to know how long it takes for it to develop for other people's phones?
It's worse for me on the left side of the button, same for you too?

I noticed this yesterday, too, on the right side. I've had the phone for 17 days.
I've updated the first post with what I think is a fix.
I have this rattling too, noticed it yesterday. Pressing it firmly fixes the issue for some 10-20 clicks - but then it's back again.
Same here.. Often the button clicks but there is no registration only when pressing it firmly it will exucte,
It just started on mine too it seems.
Home Botton issue..
I hate the home button, I like the buttons on the Samsung Captivate better.
I had a issue with my home button, after I put on an aftermarket screen protector. I tried to use water to help apply the protector, and it seemed to have gotten behind the button, causing it not to work after drying. After tearing apart the phone and getting behind the boards I didn't see a way to the button, it seems you have to separate the screen from the frame to get to the electronics behind the frame (most likely destroys the phone). I did notice double-sided sticky tape behind the frame, most likely industrial type.
Put the phone back together and got some Flux-Off that I had for cleaning circuit boards , applied it at the button just as the water got into it. Fixed my issue and the button is making good contact now.
All that just for me to say, it worked better with the older design.
I don't know about your buttons, but mine has stopped rattling. Perhaps some glue needed more time to settle.
