Music Details editor - For Album art - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
When i download some songs they are normally "Album : Unknown Album"
I also download some songs through the iMusic Tao app and it annoys me when they dont have an Album as the Album Art Grabber cant give it an album art so is there an apps on the market that will allow me to edit properties ?
Also whats the best ways of doing it on the PC is it just the basic vista one ?
Cheers
James

On the pc you can use wmp.
Nothing on phone to edit meta tags etc. at the moment (unless there is in which case do share )

There's mp3tagger pro in the market, its 99p. Let's u edit tags and album art. I used to use the free version which didn't allow for art change but was worked very well to edit the tag info. I guess the pro version will work just as well. Think it was developed by a member on here if I remember correctly.

Yes, that's right, I am the developer
You can choose "load directory" or "load by album" in mp3tagger pro and then bulk edit the album and artist name for all mp3s at once (it really writes the info into the files). Then you can automatically search for a cover with mp3tagger pro as well.
Hope that helps,
Lars

Another option (since I hate WMP for music) is MediaMonkey. It gives you a lot of options for syncing to different devices. You can tell it to copy folder.jpg into the album directory when it syncs, and you can also tell it to embed the album art into the mp3 files. All my album art seems to go across just fine with it.

Hey just bought your program the other day, really like it, helps sort out my album art problem, just one thing i would really like to see would be grouping of files by a search name as you could have directorywith 100's of different music files in them.

Sounds like an interesting option, I will add a filter dialog in the directory/file chooser in the next version.

You may want to check the latest version of mp3tagger pro in the market, it now has a filter for loading multiple files inside a directory.

Album art

How do i show album art of my songs in tf3d music player.. sorry if this has been aswered but the only that comes up is for wmp... thanks in advance for the help yall!!!!Also i notice scrolling through the music the music pictures dont flip up or downwhen scrolling
Yea I'm kind of interested in this question too. Can't seem to find an answer to this specific question. Do you have to use (sync with) WMP to use the album art feature in the music tab of TF3D? I created a music folder on my microSD card and just dumped all my music on it. But it doesn't show up in TF3D, and I have to access the file to even play it.
Thanks.
I sync music to my phone using WMP on the computer, and it embeds the art on each track, so it shows on TF3D. You may also try the how-to in this site: http://discuss.pocketnow.com/showthread.php?t=23550
Wow, that article is a really complicated way to say, just drop an image in each album's folder on your device and name the image "folder.jpg".
I just looked at the sample music and saw that's how they did it.
i messed with my profor a long time until it paid off......
usinf total cammander go to the file wherethe music resides
make sure you gave the album art there
whatever the name is rename it to folder
then make a copy of it and name it hTC_AM_AlbumArt
soft reset and it should work
it did for me

i had trouble doing this at irst but i finally figured it out.very simple.
1st, get mp3tag and install
2nd: run mp3 tag and search for music files on your computer(your songs)p/s save all songs on computer and not on phone
3rd: download jpg files of artist for your songs, try to download the album jpg files(you can name it whatever you like)
4th: using mp3tag,edit each song album art by importing the ones you have downloaded for your songs i.e j-lo :love don't cost a thing(download either an ordinary pic of j-lo or the album cover for that song, call it whatever you like)
after editing the the songs album covers, exit mp3 tag
5th; open wmp and play your songs, save them as a playlist or several play lists.
sync PLAY LIST to you htc touch pro,and reset
off you go

Album Artwork?

Hi all, does anyone know how the music player picks up the album art? Some of my albums display the covers fine, some don't display them at all? My covers are named anything from folder.jpg, front.jpg, album name.jpg etc but I can't get some of them to display properly.
I us ea app to download the album arts for android. you can find it in market. it works great ad found all the album arts till now. it even gives some cover arts so you can choose from. the app called "Album Art Grabber" ok its not free but works great.

Second that, I have this program too, always find the covers for me, even on some singles I imported over.
I'm using the last.fm which automatically grabs the cover album for you.

I ran into this problem too. You'll need to rename your images to "AlbumArt.jpg".
Thanks all!

same for me here! however, it does not find alle arts, and if the song is really new and only released as a single (and you would want to have the cover from the single) -> no chance!

I had that with on mp3 but if they had a function to let you choose a album art it would be great.

I tried this (on my Hero) by renaming an existing Folder.jpg file to AlbumArt.jpg, but after the media player finished updating itself the images still weren't shown for the tracks in that folder.
Don't the images need to be installed into the ID tags?

Mediascape not showing/using Album Art

I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem and/or knows how to fix it.
I can see in Media Go that an album/song has album art attached to it (I can even see that there is album art in Windows explorer and iTunes). I've tried deleting/adding the art via 3rd party mp3 tagging software but that doesn't seam to make a difference.
I've tried copying the music using Media Go and dragging and dropping onto the memory card but the art still doesn't show on the phone. The funny thing is that it's not all albums, just a 'select' few.
I've also tried downloading the art via the phone itself however it either can't find the art or it's wrong.
Anyone know how to fix this?
I believe it has something to do with the aspect ratio of the album art. if it isn't a perfect square (500x500 or 450x450 for example) mediascape will not recognize the album art.
Thanks for the response, I've checked and that doesn't seam to be the case (some art which shows is not square and some art which doesn't show is square).
Also when Mediascape searches for album art it sometimes finds (wrong) old shaped album covers.
Any other ideas?
I had a problem like this before. Try this.
Go to your SD card and there's a folder called "albumthumbs" which stores a cached version of all the album covers. Delete all the files in this folder. Mediascape will then re-cache with all your updated album covers.
It fixed most of my albums but there are still a few that aren't right.
Hope that helps.
Nope, that didn't work either, in fact not the are more albums without art!
I had the same issue. I've not figured the reason, but I've worked around it removing the album art and adding it again with Mp3tag.
Did you try the "retrieve the album art" feature of mediascape ? (reading your post it's unclear whether or not you know about the feature)
It's really simple, just get a wi-fi connection, and it'll automatically read the album tags to get the proper album art.
I know it worked perfectly for me, also the phone didn't show any of the album art (even though some of my tracks had one) before doing that.
I tried re tagging my tracks with (Easy CD-DA Extractor) still no luck. Every single other player on my PC, stereo, Car etc. can read the the album art but not mediascape
This is my trick:
1. Clear all unnecessary tag from the file (eg: using eyeD3).
2. Inject album art to the file (eg: using albumart-qt).
3. Copy the file back to device.
4. Remove all Mediascape cache data (from Manage Apps menu).
5. Restart the device.
All the tools I use is running on Linux, but I'm sure there's counterpart tool on other platform.

I sprung for the album art grabber app from the market. It allows you search the net or add art from the SD card.

Tried this and no luck, either it couldn't find the album art or it was totally wrong (it looks like it searches by artist rather than by album).

I'll give this a go also.
I've email Sony Ericsson support, I doubt I'll get a usefull answer but if I do I'll share it with the forum.
Thanks all!
UPDATE: Baggyb your trick with album art grabber app worked a charm.
Many thanks!
Sorry for the bump, but I might have found something that could help aswell.
I had the same problem. Mediascape wasn't able to put the correct album art on the songs I had on my X10.
Every other mediaplayer showed the correct album art, except for Mediascape.
Apparently all I had to do was add the song name at the album name and all of a sudden the correct album art was shown.
With Media Go that's quite easy.
Just put your songs in the map "music" of your X10 and go to Media Go.
Select the tab "Music" (@Phone Card) and you'll see your music currently on your X10.
Select a song and go to properties.
Click on the tab "artwork".
Add the albumart of your choice.
Then go to the tab "music" of properties.
Copy the title of the song and paste it @ "Album"
And you're done.
Seems a hassle to do this at every song, but it works so for me it was worth it.
Sony really makes it a hassle to put album art into the songs, they should come up with a solution and tell us the consumer in their user manual. The user manual really sucks as there is not much detail info into the product itself...
Just toss the correct album art into the album folder and name it albumart.jpg . It's very simple and works 100% for me.

DO you have only new music btw?
I noticed that the Retrieve Album Art feature in Mediascape takes a few days to get the latest album covers... for example The Final Frontier album cover was only added a couple of days ago...
Ok. I also fond of tagging all my mp3 with album arts. Have wasted like all days long just to make it looks very nice in MediaScape And now currently, all my songs shows album arts in MediaScape.
Always use MediaGo for managing your mp3, also i don't even bother where they put the mp3 in sdcard. I already passed the "organize things in folder manually" life after i struggle to organize my 4TB stuff in separate hard drives
Second is to assign the album art to Album Properties instead of individual songs.
For songs that you already transfer to X10 without Album Art, by adding album art to Media Go and do the transfer again won't update the album art in timescape. You go and delete the content of albumthumbs in sdcard, then it will usually work.
No rules about dimension ratio and resolution for album arts.
Possible Solution
I have a SE Xperia Mini Pro.
I discovered the same problem. Album art would not display for Albums previously copied. (This was after spending 3 days sorting out Media Go with Art!!!)
I found a fix using an App called "Album Art Grabber".
Once I run it on the phone, it automatically finds the album art linked in the MP3 file. Once I run media scape the art has reappeared. Appears to work.

Android splitting Same Artist Albums ICS

I have looked around for a while now for the solution to this problem, however everyone can only seem to come up with a way to alter the files. I was hoping that the Android system would just be able to pick up media files like any other device.
The problem is that the Media scanner will split up an album (from the same artist) into different folders, so Album A with songs 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 will be split up into Album A 1,3,4,5,6 & Album A 2,7,8,9. Not only this but I am experiencing albums with Same and or Different artists being split up with 1 song per folder, so 40 song album gives me 40 folders. This apparently is due to the id3 tags and the way that the media scanner reads each album. For some reason the older firmware updates for android could only read Album and Artists then got changed to Album Artits.
I am running Ice-Cream Sandwich and was hoping by this firmware Google would have fixed this problem as it's quite an annoying issue, I dont want to change the ID3 tag for every album before I put it in my phone as it becomes tedious, dragging and dropping is what i feel should be the only step to get Music on your Android device.
Thanks for anyone that can provide assistance

If you're going to the trouble of downloading an album (presumably from a questionable source since the tags are messed up) is it really that much extra effort to drag a folder into your favourite tag editor to auto-populate/clear the Album Artist tag?
Edit: From a quick glance, there's plenty of ID3 tag editors on the Google Play Store too.

Yeah fair point, I just feel life if there is a folder with the same Album name the songs within should automatically be created within them, removing that extra step to change the files yourself. Ill have a look at the ID3 tag editors on Google Play, thanks alot for your help.
Even if there can be a change made to the scanner through the SDK even, that would be great for a custom rom.
anyone managed how to make this work like it should with ICS?
I have the following:
different %title% and %artist/ for every file
same %album% for all files
what I've already tried :
1) %album artist% with the name of the album
2) %albumartist% with the name of the album
3) blank %album artist% and %albumartist%
4) %compilation% tag set to 1
none of the make it work like it should. any suggestions?

Music app with proper sorting

My music library is very well-organized; I use a tool called beets to synchronize all my tags with the MusicBrainz database. As a result, on desktop, all my albums are sorted by album artist sort. However, I have been unable to find a single Android music app that pays any attention to the "sort" tags at all.
Apps I've tried:
Lineage/AOSP Music
Poweramp
Blackplayer
Foobar2000
Musicolet
AIMP
DoubleTwist
Oto Music
Half of these apps just sort the albums alphabetically by title (gross!). The rest sort by album artist (non-sort), so that half my library ends up sorted under T, for "The".
This is important to me because all my albums end up in a totally different order with album artist vs album artist sort. For example, "Miles Davis" goes under M, but "Davis, Miles" goes under D. So now when I open my phone, I can't find anything. Is there even a single app that gets this right?
Music folder>Artist folder>album folder with track number/name.
Poweramp works perfectly after it's configured.
Poweramp is managing a music library of 231gb; 778 folders and over 6500 songs for me on 2 twin N10+'s.
Tags are a waste of time because they generally aren't transferable. Playlists however are easily backed up and recreated with Poweramp as long as the whole music database is also backed up.
Thanks for your reply.

My library is already in this exact format already, in fact. Just switching from "Album" to "Folder" view in Poweramp doesn't change anything, but I can see how I could rename all my artist folders to the sort album artist instead. While I'm at it, I guess I should prepend the release date to each album folder—this would get me the exact sorting I'm looking for. With a library manager, this kind of overhaul is still a pain, but at least it's doable. Thanks for the tip.

I would have to disagree…I have a dual-boot system where Quod Libet, Cantata, and Lollypop on Linux, plus MusicBee on Windows, happily read the same files and all their tags. Android is the odd man out—probably because the Android MediaStore doesn't include the album artist
In any case, I think I answered my own question: GoneMAD. It can handle the sort artist tags just like a normal media player, and there's an artist>year sort option for the albums tab. All I could ever ask…somehow it managed to duck every single listicle I've read and it gets no attention on the Play Store. Go figure. I've been looking for this exact app for years.

Good to see you're organized. That's important with a music database.
I use Poweramp because it's rock solid and it's settings, all of them, can be 100% backed up and recreated at will. Advanced troubleshooting and throughput options. It's graphic equalizer is the best I've used and supports multiple presets that can be tagged to song or folder. The equalizer is a big deal and mandatory for me. I spent a big chunk of time dialing in the Buds+ with it.
It's only downside is it doesn't support video for MP4's and such.
