No hard spl on hermes.....!! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hi,
I am trying to install hard spl on my hermes, checked everything (activesync etc.) but as soon as the installation starts, am being asked to allow the use of the programs on the hermes....the hermes comes up with a soft return...and afterwards I get an connection error... Any help will be highly appreciated...
Kind regards,
Anton Will van Zoelen
PS used version 7 of hardspl

Go to page 116, post 1160 of the Hard SPL thread for instructions on using SD Card method. You need a 2Gb or less card and it must be formatted FAT32.

Hi,
Thanks for your quick response. Will do...
Kind regards,
Anton Will van Zoelen

Hi,
Did excactly as was said but when I started the program SSPL-HERM.exe the pda did soft reset and nothing happended. Did not format the micro SD as it is FAT32.
Any advice....?
Thanks...
Kind regards,
Anton Will van Zoelen

SSPL.exe must be on the phones memory when started or it won't work, Are you sure that the sd card is Formated FAT32 as it comes default FAT. Check you renamed the .nbh file properly - hermimg.nbh .Also sd card MUST be 2Gb or less...
Cheers...

This exact thing happened to me. For some reason it isn't compatible with windows 7 or vista. If you can't get it to work on the sd card, try doing it on a computer with windows xp, make sure you have .net update on it too. Or you could try xp mode on windows 7. I ended up just using xp on my netbook.

Alex1261 is correct -- you could install and use Windows XP mode assuming your current hardware configuration is compatible. To learn more about Windows XP mode, please go here: http://bit.ly/lvAjC

windows xp mode uses virtualization. i'd reaaallly recomend against that, and even then i don't know if you can bridge the USB ports.
point: use xp on standard hardware. netbook, as alex said is a good way to go.

use the [Easy Hard-Spl v7 beta v0.1] by qwasde2
it,s really usefull i tryed it,s by me
it,s for win XP and vista and se7en users

Hermes USB problem [prevents flashing of roms]

I've been having some usb problems with my Hermes for a while now:
- it nearly always can't charge with standalone usb chargers now - it will only charge by connecting to computer.
- connection issues with WMDC 6.1. It connects at first but after a few minutes, the activesync connection is lost [it still charges though]. I have Vista ultimate x64. I've been using bluetooth to sync anyway.
I've just thought, oh well, I'm sure the problem will go away when I finally update my rom next time. But now I can't do this, because of this USB problem. The usb connection is lost [orange led light turns off] as soon as the flashing utlity puts the phone in bootloader mode [first time I tried this today, windows was installing a "htc usb sync" driver at this point...weird]. As a result of this I get an "update error" 284 and I have to reset battery and start all over.
Should I try activesync 4.5? A different vista x64 driver (can't find any), or a different OS? I hope there's nothing seriously wrong with my herme's USB port! Can't see why, I've looked after it well.
Thanks for your help! I don't want to be stuck in WM6.0 forever!
If you have an xp machine, you could try activesync 4.5. Does your usb port look okay as far as connections to the motherboard? No cracked solder joints?
Oh yeah...I managed to keep the usb connection in by holding it in place with my finger, rather nervously, while the rom updated!
I had a good look at the Kaiser forum where they're having problems with the usb port's weird htc shape, and loose connections...I think it's the same with my Hermes.
It still can't charge with regular chargers though. Only laptop.
Mate, you can use the sd card method to update your rom if you've flashed Hard SPL. MUCH SAFER than "holding it in place with my finger".... I believe that could be a way to bricksville...
I'm assuming, of course, you HAVE Hard SPL on your Hermes...
1. Format sd card fat32 and copy the .nbh file of the rom onto it. Rename it to "hermimg.nbh.
2. Insert sd card into hermes & go to bootloader - OK button, power button and reset with stylus, hold in until tri-colour screen comes up.
3. Follow the prompts.
If it doesn't do anything then either you've not formatted the sd card fat32 or have renamed the .nbh file wrong. Make sure you have at least 50 % battery power and DON'T reset in the middle of a flash...
Easy as pie...

Thanks for that quick guide to SD card flashing! I've decided I'll do that method for the much riskier radio upgrade.
Yep, I've got Olipro 2.10. Cheers!

Cannot Sync anymore - serial NOT usb on BootLoader Screen

IGNORE BELOW I GOT IT RESOLVED. On the phone itself the female usb connector had 2 of the 5 "connectors" entangled with each other inside. I am going to be careful from now when I plug any usb cables in it
Hi All
I cannot seem to sync my phone using any USB cable anymore (ERROR [260]: CONNECTION). It charges fine, but the computer does not see the phone at all. I have tried different cables, different computers, but no luck. I have Actisync 4.5 installed. When I try to reinstall the ROM also (Power + OK button) I am getting "serial" showing at the bottom of the screen instead of "USB". Any ideas what is causing this? The phone is working great otherwise. Every single feature works except USB . Note Well: The phone is NOT stuck on BootLoader screen, it boots up fine.
Is it possible it's the USB connector on the phone is damaged? But as I said it does charge the phone when connected to the computer.
PS I also did a "clear storage" to default the phone back to the current ROM I have installed and also I have checked "usb to pc" enabled on the phone.

If you have this problem, try the SD card method....
(assuming the Hermes has Hard SPL v7 installed)
1. Format sd card FAT32. Copy .nbh file of the rom you want on and rename to hermimg.nbh .
2. Insert SD card into Hermes and reset to bootloader.
3. Assuming all things are right, follow prompts...

HTC TyTn(Herm200) Error 260 during hard-SPL upgrade

Hi,
I would very high appreciate if someone in this community could help me with the Hard-SPL upgrade problem. I read a lot of threads in this forum and in other forums. I tried to follow several solutions but I get stuck all time during the upgrade to hard spl 2.10 with an error 260.
I connected my mobile via USB cable. WMGC 6.1 is running on my PC --> synchronizing has finished. Then I started Ruuwraper on my vista PC --> after I answered yes to upgrade to hard-spl 2.10 --> on my mobile appeared enterBL.exe and was asking me if I should run it Y/N. Then I replied with yes --> afterwards it appeared the bootloader
IPL-SSPL by Desc
SPL-1.09ds
but then there is no reaction for about half a minute. Afterwards it appears on the PC "error 260" (I should check if the cable is connected via USB)
However I see that USB appears on the bootloader screen. In my opinion it should work, but didn't !
if I go into bootloader I read following :
IPL --> 1.01
SPL --> 1.04
IMG 1.23.707.4
My desktop OS --> vista 64
windows mobile center --> V6.1.6965
Can it be that I need a special USB cable for my HTC ?
Or ????
Thanks in advance for your help.
I know that there is a problem with using 64bit OS versions, so if you have another computer you can use that isn't 64bit to check whether it is that or not.
Good luck
Thanks for your fast reply.
I tried on my other computer (laptop installed windows XP SP3). However I failed with the same problem.
When i first tried to flash my device i had a problem of it not connecting to the boot loader, it seemed that every time the phone changed to boot loader the computer would no longer recognize it and it wouldn't be synced with the computer. i think i managed to get around this problem by putting my phone into boot loader (ok button + power + reset button) and then connecting it for some reason the computer would then recognize it and it would work. I cant remember what it was i was flashing it may have been hard-spl
Hope this helps, Good luck
Edit: I found this information on completely different forum that came from HTC about what to do
HTC's Answer: I was instructed to disconnect and soft-reset. Then I was instructed to go to Settings>System>Memory>Running programs and Stop All. Including Active Sync. We then reconnected the phone. Established a sync and ran the utility. Active Sync still goes away and you get the falling tone of a Disconnect. Ignore it and proceed as if everything is connected. Bang Zoom. 10 minutes later I'm loading software. *dance*

this is what is meant to happen as i flashed a new rom the other day on vista and windows had to find the device again and reconnect i think after this small pause it worked again.
Ok, I tried. Following result :
I see that Serial goes to USB but then no reaction. I can see on the WMDC 6.1 --> it shows still "not connected".
I found one article below and tried as well but it starts not automatecly from the bootloader too :
HERMIMG.nbh on a FAT32 filesystem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/files/hermes_sd_flashing.jpg
1. If you want to install any ROM (NBH) which is not supplied by your operator or the CID does not match then you will need to SuperCID your device. This can be easily done by installing HardSPL and should be the first thing done if doing any upgrading.
2. Empty (erase the contents) of your 2 gig or smaller non-SHDC MicroSD card (the Hermes bootloader does not support SDHC) from the Windows Mobile file explorer or format it from your computer using a card reader (in some cases format doesn't work) make sure it's formated in FAT32 format. As a precaution you might want to check the MicroSD card for file errors. i.e (Properties->Tools->Error Checking)
3. Extract the .NBH file from your preferred ROM upgrade: In windows use winrar (right click) to extract the contents of the exe file. In Linux / MacOS use cabextract.
4. Rename the .NBH file to HERMIMG.nbh and copy it to the root folder of your microSD card.
5. With microSD card inserted on the phone, start the bootloader (hold Ok button on left side and POWER button at same time and stick with stylus in RESET on bottom).
6. You should see a screen similar to the one pictured on the left (What lines appear depends on what is included in the nbh. If the file doesn't include bootloader code, that line will not appear, and so on.) Confirm flashing on screen by pressing the power button.
7. Flashing might hang after some time but this is normal. Just wait. Complete flash takes about 30 minutes, so check your battery or connect to charger before the flashing process starts.
8. After you get the confirmation that the upgrade is complete, softreset your device.
So you tried flashing using the sd card method and still no result?
yes
and now I tried your suggestion with stop running programs activsync and calender.
Also the same --> error 260
I would've hoped that one of the methods would work, i take it the device syncs up fine normally to device center and you can access all your files etc?
This is the thread i quoted from there is some more information about the problem i don't know whether it will help though.
http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&thread.id=42389&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
yes I can synchronize and I can see all the file via vista explorer.
I take it your planning to flash a newer rom onto your hermes, are you running the stock rom that came with it at the moment?
I just ran the hard-spl ruuwrapper.exe on my computer with out my phone connected this gave me the 260 error so it is most probably something to do with the phone connecting whilst in boot loader mode, did you click yes to run any program that it asked you to on the phone?
I did read some where that resetting the pc might work but i dont know whether it will make a difference considering you've already tried it on another computer.
Good luck

Actually I bought the HTC in Taiwan (CHT is the brand on the front) in a shop. At the beginning there was a chinese OS and the seller in the shop changed it to the english version.

yes, it appered enterBL.exe on my mobile. Then I answered with Y.

yes, on my laptop (windows xp). The same problem -->error 260. There is only one difference between my desktop and my laptop. activsync (with windows xp) drops during using the program RUUWraper which WMDC 6.1 (with vista) does not.
Good luck

i dont really know what to suggest, what happened when you tried flashing it using the sd card method?
Tried already. Not working too.
program starts not automatically with .nbh file from the SD card when I went into bootloader.
you could try the sd card method again, following the instructions Here to the letter and see how it goes because that should bypass the problem of it not connecting and should work.

I tried again to flash via SD card but my mobile does not recognize the .nbh file. The mobile stays in bootloader mode and does nothing.
Edit :
maybe I made something wrong ? I used the .nbh file from the Hard-SPL. Is this ok ?
i have attached the .nbh file from hard-spl. renamed to what it is needed to be to work. reformat the memory card so that it is blank and in fat32 format, put this file on it and follow the rest of the steps.

Thanks. My SD card is already formatted with FAT32. Is it really necessary to format it again ? I deleted only the files on the SD card and tried it already but it did not work.
If yes to format FAT32 again, do you have also a program for FAT32 formating which is running on vista ?
I downloaded fat32format already but I have to find an adapter to put it into the PC to format. Or is there another possibility to format ?
From the PC I did not find a possibility to access to format directly on my mobile.
there is a formatter on vista but the memory card would have to be connected to the pc, when i brought my micro sd card it came with an adapter to an sd card so i can use it in a usb card reader or the one on the front of my tower.
other wise i dont know if you can format it this way whilst it is connected to the phone.

[Q] noob wondering how to mount sd card. please help have searched for hours

hey guys, I just got the hd2 yesterday, and it alread was loaded android miui onto it. I was just wondering, how do I mount a sd card from windows mobile so i can see the contents of the card on a computer? What I'm trying to do is, use a sd card that doesn't have android on it in windows mobile, but i don't have a card reader. I know thres a way to put my micro sd into my hd2 and connect it to my macbook ( i dont have any virtual machines for windows so the sync software won't work ) so I can view all the files and put the necessary files for android on it. I have the clarity rom 6.5 and in the settings in connections/usb it just says allow usb connection or something like that. everytime I connect to my mac it doesn't recognize an external device, but my hd2 charges. When i boot it into android i can mount my sd card, but the problem is i dont have android on the other sd card that i want to modify, so I can't go into android and mount my sd card to modify files. So to make a long question short, HOW DO I VIEW/MODIFY THE CONTENTS OF MY SD CARD ON MY MAC WITH ONLY MY HD2 AND USB CABLE? This is my first post, so please go easy on me.
if you set the hd2 to disk drive mode the mac should see it as a usb hard disk. shouldnt it? (in windows mobile, not android, dunno nuffink about android)
how do i do this? I have never used windows mobile. ever. thanks for the help!
well when you plug in the usb cable, normally you get a popup (on the hd2) asking what you want, actyive sync, disk drive or (sometimes) internet sharing.
if it doesnt, you can go
settings tab menu all settings connections usb to PC
or settings tab other usb to PC
select disk drive, connect (or reconnect) USB cable.
you sometimes have better luck with switching usb mode if you havent already connected the device that session. try it from a fresh phone and pc reboot, put the phone in disk mode then connect usb.
(just as an added point of interest, you can use the hd2 in usb disk mode to boot a PC from a suitably formatted bootlable sd card, so it is using real usb hard disk mode. I use it to boot to ubuntu when im testing faulty machines.)
I only have one usb to pc, and it says when i tap it,
enable advanced network functionality.
no other settings. is something wrong? I am on clarity rom.
oh and im on clarity rom, but for some reason its not doing anything when i plug it into the mac
dunno what to say then, you are looking for the screen as my image.
G'nite, good luck.
you might claim to be a noob, but you certainly know what you're doing and you're on the right track!
here are the facts:
1. the HD2 is TOTALLY capable of what you require, i.e. usb disk mode
2. point 1 is true in both WM6.5(.x) and android (and you have already used the feature first-hand in android!)
3. point 2 is true only for WM ROMs and android builds in which the chef has chosen to provide the ability to toggle the usb disk mode option (this feature is present and fully usable in 90+% of the available ROMs/builds and in 100% of the ROMs/builds i've tried personally!)
4. given point 3, i find it hard to believe or understand why the chef of this "clarity" ROM you speak about left out the option! maybe it is there but moved to a different section of settings as samsamuel has suggested. maybe it WAS there but somehow something got corrupted/screwed and now the option has been wiped out? maybe try hard resetting your WM.
my honest and humble suggestion to you is to post in the thread of the "clarity" ROM and ask the chef/users of the ROM.
you seem very comfortable with the tweaking and ROM scene, so why not try a different WM ROM (i suggest NRGZ's "energy" ROM series)? you are already using android, and changing the WM ROM is a whole lot easier and straight forward if your primary OS is android (like yours truly!); nothing to backup/restore, no apps to install/configure, no contacts/messages backup/restore, etc.
i am happily using an old NRGZ ROM from june 2010, i keep WM in flight mode and simply use WM as a "bootstrap" into android. my WM is properly tweaked and configured to my liking just in case android ever screws up and i end up having to rely on WM until i get android sorted. hasn't happened yet, but fingers crossed!

Windows and Multiple SD Partitions

The only way that I've found to allow Windows to recognize more than just the first listed SD partition is to install drivers to make the card a Local Disk instead of a Removable Disk.
This would be extremely useful for users who run the SD version of CM7, where the image creates a four partitions with the 4th being all of your user data.
Here is the tutorial on how to modify and install the Local Disk drivers:
http://www.getusb.info/usb-hack-turn-a-usb-stick-into-a-hard-drive-or-local-disk/
In theory, if you use a USB to SD adapter, this should work, but it's not working for me. I thought all XP drivers were compatible with Windows 7, but maybe that isn't correct.
Anyone else want to give it a shot?
Ahh, the old hitachi drivers. I posted a guide about them some weeks ago. They will work on Windows 7, just not the 64bit version of it. Where exactly are you having problems with it?
Sent from my 8086 using xda retrograde.
I have problems exactly where you say. It seems that the drivers aren't compatible with my 64bit operating system.
Any chance I could modify the driver to make it work?

What happens if you install a 32-bit Windows XP virtual machine on you 64-bit system. Would that allow you to use XP the drivers?
I don't have an XP .iso handy at the moment to run in VirtualBox, but I'm going to test this on an XP OS and a Windows 7 x86 OS within a day or two.

Except I didn't pay Micro$oft the big bucks for Professional or Ultimate. I'm running Home Premium on my desktop which doesn't allow XP Mode. Stupid Windows...
I will check it using another OS shortly.
If you're going to use a virtual machine, then why don't you just use Ubuntu? It will mount everything just fine.

Because they want a solution which doesn't require dual booting and is immediately available. Unfortunately the crap support for other file systems will continue to be a big problem for them. (EDIT: Or did you mean to run Ubuntu in a virtual machine?)
Running Ubuntu or PC-BSD or any other more FS robust OS in Oracle's VirtualBox (which is free and relatively easy to use) is probably the best solution for many here.
I know all partitions and all file systems mount in Ubuntu, but the point of this is to get multiple partitions to be readable/writable in Windows, since the majority of users run this as their main OS. The idea of running XP in a virtual machine was simply to check and see if the drivers were compatible; the idea was not meant to be a permanent solution.
As for Windows mounting Linux file systems (Ext2 and Ext3 specifically), this would be my next step. I believe the solution does exist. Check out the freeware Ext2IFS and ExtFsd if you're interested. I haven't gotten the chance to try them because I'd like to get multiple Microsoft partitions readable first.
Anyway, after trying a USB drive and a SD card in an MMC reader on both a 32bit Windows 7 Home and XP Home this morning, I have not been successful.
I can confirm that the USB Local Disk drivers are in fact compatible with both of these operating systems, but Windows is still recognizing the drives at Removable Disks instead of Local Disks. I will try to work on it a bit more in a little while.
Total Commander has support for ext bases file systems.
So, can cm7 use an ext sd file system just like fat 32?

I believe so. In fact, the SD card version of CM7 final uses two ext4 file systems, one of them being the partition used for the "internal storage."

I'm able to manually mount the sdcard as ext4, however CM7 doesn't recognize the sdcard, and won't mount it for me.
Does anyone know what we need to change to get CM7 to recognize an ext4 sdcard?
Thanks!
Little bit of a thread hijack going on, but that's okay.
Is your vold.fstab mounting the correct partition?
Okay, so I got all the different partitions of my SD card to mount this morning, even an Ext3 file system. I might do my own How-To later for the CM7 users on here and so that it appears using more tags in someone's Google search.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I need to know: Did you ever document somewhere how you got this working under Windows 7 64-bit?
I'm in the same boat as you, needing to be able to mount and read an ext2 partition on my Windows 7 64-bit. I've got the necessary drivers that'll let me read ext2 and above but having access to that 2nd partition while the card is in my Windows laptop is where I'm stumbling.
Any pointers would be much appreciated.
In fact, I actually did manage to find the drivers for x64 Win7. Check out post #7 of this thread right here to see the details.
