How do you switch to previously Open programs! - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is really annoying when am in the middle of a movie and i pause and press the home screen or do some other stuf on the phone but when i go back to the album to continue I ll have to start al over again.
Isnt there something like a taskbar where programs not terminated are minimized until they are reopened or terminated.?
Please advise
Cheers

The only Taskmanager like app is press and hold the Home key, you will get up a list of the previous 6 running programs. Whether or not they will put you back in the same place as you were before is dependant on Android.

the only thing i know of, is to hold the home button, and the 6 most recent apps pop up, and you just click on the app you want and it goes right to how it was b4 you were interrupted.

use meridian evolve from the market, it automatically resumes video.
i know its not exactly what your asking for but it is a solution.

Meridian work great. There is also an app called motion launcher which allow you to quickly switch among previous running apps by shaking the phone twice. It's on the market as well

Multi-Tasking

Is android as bad as apple? Iv come from a N900 and it was simple. You pressed a button and the app was sent to the background (still running) and then you press a different button to see all the apps running in little windows..
I dont even know how to close a app for good or keep it running in background and how to see whats open and whats not without a app killer app?
Am I missing something?
As bad as apple? Nope...but i am also waitin' for this "button". =)
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
there's no taskswitcher built in, there's obviously lots out there, but that doesnt mean it has no multi-tasking as you can press the switch apps by going to home screen and trigger the app again which has been running in the back ground.

How do I do this dont get what I press? It seems to have a mind of its own and I never know how to close the app for good or keep it running..
sorry new to android..
to close most well behaving apps you use the back button, holding down back button will close whatever app you are using with just one press.
some apps will stay resident (but not active) in the background if you press the home key once which should drop you back to the homepage.
on the streak if you hold the home key down then you get the switcher screen and across the bottom there's a list of recently used apps, so you can switch between apps that way..
I'm also new to android and learning quickly
tbh I've tried a few taskswitchers etc and have jkAppswitch at the mo because it works well, but that method above works ok as well.
I wish Dell had given us a basic drop down taskswitcher..

[Q] Wierd thing when pressing the home button

Last night I gave my gf my s2 to play a game with. When she was playing the voice command thing kept coming on, she probably at some point double pressed the home button and that happened. I did notice it though that it came up some times when she was just touching the screen.
Anyhow, when she gave it back to me whenever I was pressing the home button instead of going to the regular homescreen it would show me something completely different I never saw before. After rebooting the home button worked like before. Anyone recognize the "different" home screen?
Looks like the desk clock found in the clock app (to the right of the stopwatch, you need to scroll right to see it).
You are right, just checked and it's that. I don't know how it got activated though.
Wait, I think I do. The phone was being charged with one of those portable battery changer things (Veho Pebble) and the phone was probably tricked or something thinking it was docked or whatever.
I have the exact same issue. When I press the Home button, this app comes up instead of the launcher. I tried setting the launcher using "Home Switcher" app, but it does not stick, I mean, when I start "Home Switcher" again it says "Your default Home app is (not determined yet)".
Anyone has any idea how to solve this?

From Android to Mango. Am I missing something?

I've been using Android for 2 years and just bought my Mango Titan past week. Having read many positive reviews, I had high hopes.
There are things that I had expected a normal user would expect to have. Things that really disappoints (or is there any app to solve these?):
1.No smart dialing. I found apps on Market to complement that but then those apps does smart dialing and nothing more. To see phone history, missed calls etc, I have to go back to the original phone app. Kind of strange to put two phone app tiles on main screen.
2. How to turn off notification sound at night automatically? My phone charges on my night desk and keeps beeping when emails come in in the the middle of the night. In Android we have the SoundManager app that can set daily time zones to turn on/off various rings/notifications.
3. Pressing on the live tiles will launch a program (say Facebook app). That's fine, but having pressed the Win button to go back to main screen and launch the same app again seems to launch the program from scratch (i.e. slow). It's very often that we hop among a few apps to do things. Long press on the "back" button could bring things back much more quickly.
4. Calendar. The calendar is the weakest thing I've used in the past few years (WM6, Android 1.5-2.3, iOS) It's basically useless in the month-view as I cannot read anything on it and there is no week-week. Calens\dar tile seems to only show tomorrow's events and nothing beyond een when the tile has lots of space left to show more stuff.
5. On-line status. Is there any way I don't sync status with all accounts? Right now when I say I'm on-line for MSN chat, it'll also show me on-line in Facebook...
6. No folder to aggregate various tiles/apps. My tile and app list is already growing so long that I find it cumbersome to scroll through it.
7. Hand writing Chinese recognition is so slow. Basically the stroke lags.
8. WhatsApp problem. Very often it says I have received new msg and the tile says so too. Yet when I go inside, nothing. May be this is WhatsApp only?
Am I the only one that is disappointed? Sadly the list seems to be growing...

Ok there is multitasking in WP 7.5 instead pressing back button each time U leave a app press the home button the middle one and then if you have more then one app that U opened up U can press and hold the back button the left one and it brings up all current running apps and it will instanly pick up where U left of.
---------- Post added at 04:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:43 AM ----------
Also when U have enoug apps on ur phone in the scrol menu will apear letters a b c on so forth where all Apps are listed when U press on the letter a for exsample a checker board comes up where U select letters a to z for fast app access also U can just do voice search. Also folders are available when you root your phone. It is a homebrew app.

task manager/dialer bug in shoshock 1.1

So when I enter task manager by pressing and holding home key for a couple seconds from the home page, and clicking task manager, and then clear memory, and exit via the back key, I get the dialer to pop up? Anyone else getting this?
hm
doesn't seem like much of a bug to me but I'll let you know. I was having some issues last night with shostock 1.0 where my phone was stuck in a bootloop so I'm updating to 1.1 as I type this.
EDIT:when I enter task manager by pressing and holding home key for a couple seconds from the home page, then clear memory, and exit through the back button it brings me to stumbleupon. However, if you notice when you push clear memory it says "x applications exited" where x is a number of applications. In my case it was 27 but I'm pretty sure what happens is Apex launcher gets closed. After some evaluation I don't think this is a bug at all, just what happens when you close apex launcher. I had a similar experience using cm7 when I help my back button on the homescreen because it would close adw launcher.
Hmm. Odd. So why would the dialer/other apps open?
For me, Apex doesn't even show up as an active application. So when I go through the process that you mentioned, I get the home screen every time. Not sure why your phone would be doing that.

[Q] Switching between 4 apps in the car and other environments

What is the fastest and easiest way way to switch between four apps in the car. For example Google Nav, Poweramp, Trapster, and a speedometer app. A wave of the hand would be nice. I have looked at several and used a few. Smart Task Switcher, a reviewer said “Was warned about this app due to access to contacts permissions which dev says is used in China for advertising”. AppSwipe only does two ( the last opened). The “car apps” say nothing about task switching or is it shown in the Youtube videos. It would be nicer if an app would isolate and load these four programs from one key push then allow fast switching. A snap of the fingers would be another way to switch between these four apps. Also, a slideshow type thing of these four apps with the option to stay on the current one showing might be an idea. Or, one app that puts to the front the needed app, like the media player about the first and last 5 seconds of a song, trapster like app that would popup during notifications, navigation about 10 seconds before and after turns, and the speedometer the rest of the time. I'm just thinking out loud. Holding down the home key is not a good fit. Bottom line is I need a better task switcher (not killer) for the auto. An app that would allow me to map a steering wheel button in my 2011 Ford Fusion SEL for task switching would be golden! A friend's suggestion was to get four phones, so that one is already out there.
I tried Car Dock Home v3. It works by using a launcher that uses the back key to return to it's home screen, then another task can be selected via a shortcut. Unfortunately it cancels Google Navigation when the back key is hit to go to CDHv3 home screen. This would have been a better solution as it takes two key presses. It would be the best solution to perform one action to cycle through the desired programs. I installed Smart Task Switcher and that was good in theory but I could not find how to configure correctly and the floating button is far too small and often requires several taps, and that is sitting at the desk. There is a paid version where some of this is supposedly settable but from my experience with this app I don't think this is a solution.
The car was the first place that came to mind. But the need to quickly and efficiently switch task is useful in several environments.
I have hit a dead end and any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hey man,Im surprised you expect a phone to act as a tomtom,mp3 player and christ knows what else simultaneously.

The S2 runs everything just fine, there is just not an efficient way to switch between them.
