I very often become irritated over accidentally touching the Volume buttons when not using the phone, for example when writing a text message in landscape mode, as touching the Volume buttons means changing the ringer status to for example vibrating or soundless.
Is is possible to disable the Volume buttons when not the using phone for calls?
I now that this means that I need to use the settings in order to change ringer volume etc.
Thank you in advance.
I too get annoyed by the same thing,
Glad its just not me,
I would also like to know if this is possible.
I don't know if it is possible to disable the controls but an app called ringer volume control http://www.androlib.com/android.application.vol-qwmn.aspx will restore the ringer volume to the level you have choosen in the program.
Thanks
That app works great.

On the iphone if i switched the vibrate function on the side of the phone, everything was muted, I notice when i put my phone into vibrate if i go to a game its still at full volume, whats a good master volume controller or something of that sort? I see a ton of them on the market
Yeah, only Media Volume is not muted when you use the volume rocker button.
AudioManager I think is good for a free widget.
I use sound manager & the best thing is you can set schedules for the system volume or individual sounds. I have mine set to kill notifications at night so emails & texts don't wake me, but keep ring volume up for emergency calls.
Quick settings...enable notifications being the same volume as ringtone

Phoneweaver - enables you to set profiles that are manual, event, location, and timed based...

Thanks for this...just got it to try it and I love it already
Typical issue:
- about to start some app that makes noise (game, paused music player, etc)
- trying to lower volume in advance, by using the volume button: doesn't work, controls the ringer volume instead as the phone is not playing any sound yet
- start app: LOOOOUUUUDDDDDD... until i can lower volume using volume button.
Question: any way to change the behaviour of the volume button so it controls AT ALL TIMES the media volume?
Thanks!
Don't know about any app that would do that, but you can go to sound settings before opening games, media, players, etc. and lowering the media volume before starting those apps.
Stick a finger over the speaker hole until you're able to lower the volume, it effectively mutes it. (except in very, very quiet environments)
Hi, I'm a newbie,
and i feel your problem as well.
Who in the world often change the ringer volume?
Most people will want it either at maximum volume, or minimum volume (off, at silent mode)
Most people (i believe i speak for most people),
would rather have the volume rocker to control the media volume.
Is there a better fix for this? Please help.
covering the volume hole is a nice trick, but its not really an effective solution.
Man who stick hole in finger better sticking finger in settings sounds and adjusting sound levels no ???

I use a "lock the ringer" app for this purpose alone.
If I could reprogram the volume buttons to always only affect the media, I could even get rid of the above app.
Loads of custom ROMs and custom stock ROMs have the option to have the volume expandable so when you tap the rocker the dialer volume appears but then there's a little settings icon at one end and you can tap that and media, notification and alarm volume all appear
Coming from an HTC phone, I had the option to "Use incoming call volume for notifications". It was an easy way for me to turn up and down all volume using the side volume rockers. I don't see this option for the note. I was in a meeting yesterday and thought my phone volume was turned off, but the notifications kept going off. It'd be so much easier if i could use the volume rocker to turn down the sound as opposed to going into the settings and manually doing it every time I want to change the volume. Any tips?
I use widgetlocker and have a volume slider on my lock screen, I always just slide it to vibrate
Hello,
S3 is my first smartphone ever, so please be patient
Since I'm a student, I put my phone on mute during the classes (through the notification bar).
However, it happened to me twice now that accidental touch on volume up hard key took me out of mute. This is of course undesirable... Is there a way to disable this function of volume-up key?
I want to remain muted until I cancel it on notification bar.
Thanks!
bump... can anyone help?
Sad....it remains a big drawback of the android phones that we cant make different profiles for volume like Nokia phones......
I think you can only do this by finding a tone with no sound and setting it for all the alerts manally from sound setting before entering your class room
anyhow this is a good question and hope some devs can desable vol- button for enabling full vol. back
Thanks...
but modifying it manually at the beginning of each class, then again at the end, is not very comfortable.
Perhaps it can be fixed with a mod? something like that:
- clicking volume up if phone is not muted increases the volume, as usual.
- clicking volume up if phone is muted doesn't do anything.
I'm used to pixels where the volume control button will go down to silent with vibration and if you go one more down, it will disable vibration and be totally silent. Is there a way to get the samsung volume control to behave this way?
