First of all my respect to all the cooks and tweakers out there who brought us these fine ROMS for our Raph's with the latest and greatest manila stuff on it.
Second, if this is posted in the wrong thread, or if we want to widen the audience, (@mod's) please feel free to move this thread.
However, I feel like this is the right place to start this little thread.
I have been tampering with my device for days now, trying to get the My Location to work as it is supposed to.
With no joy however....I just about tried everything I could find here and on other forums.
It seems like I am not the only one with this problem, I see a lot of posts popping up in different ROM sections (even different devices) with people sharing my frustration.
It seems like it is not ROM relates, as I am on TAEL now, tried Energy and before that SHEP's...all with no go on my location, but all ROMS with lot's of people reporting that it is working fine for them on same ROMS.
After fresh flash, different Radio's and Rilphones...no go...
I am trying to figure out a pattern, but because reports of My Location not working are so dispersed over the forums, it is hard to get a good view.
That's why I want to start this troubleshooting guide here.
Maybe it is an idea for everyone who has troubles to post their provider, their ROM (even though it is not related I think) and their tweaks.
Also radio and Rilphone, as well as info about your gps usage or agps settings.
ALso please post your actual failure (is it the connection error or is it that you get the message No weather data available)
Is it working through wifi or not.... stuff like that.
Any additions or thoughts to this is welcome.
I will reserve a second post for possible fixes and a third post with a possible template for reporting your issues.
I am really impressed by the way XDA members are pulling together at the moment to fix issues, let's keep up the good work
Thanks guys and galls, let's solve this once and for all

On my phone it is not always working , it is the location where I am.
in my home city it is working but a city 20Km (12.43 mile) away it isn't working and the network is the same .
maybe you can test that.
Edit: when I am driving (fast) (180 Km/h and faster) it won't work to.
ps: in Germany you may drive as fast as the car can go
I seem to recall a thread posted a few months back in the Raphael Software and/or Raphael ROM Development by some seasoned chefs (including Da_G).
Essentially, the thread highlighted the fact that some carriers changed the AGPS entry to reference an internal network server. This would cause AGPS to only function if you are a subscriber of the carrier network (ex: AT&T).
Believe this may be the thread:

Tnx..
However, I don't think this is down to AGPS, as I have AGPS working as should..
If I use HTCGPSTool I can see that data is being injected from AGPS into my gps chip...
Do you have any indication wether my location works purely on AGPS info?

Good question; I'm not sure as to how much My Location depends on AGPS data. If you have it working, I would guess likely not as much as originally suspected.

As a respected member, it's good to have your input....
Alas,,,,,, the quest continues....
My actual error is: My Fuze is not shaped like Megan Fox
I own a FUZE
I am using this ROM: TAEL 28002 Manila 2.1
My current Radio version is: 1.14.25.35
My current Rilphone version is: 1.14.25.35
My provider is: AT&T USA
It is working: The phone is, Megan Fox Mod, not so much.
I use AGPS: yes
I use GPS often: yes
I have tweaked my device: tweaked to disable vibration, increase GPS log size. still no luck on Megan Fox
I have been tampering with AGPS registry: not as far as i know.
Using Goolgemaps I get my position from the cell towers without problems: All the time. it pisses me off though, till the GPS kicks in a few seconds later and it shows me what street im on. The weather service also is reliable in fetching weather for my present location.
If anyone figures out the Megan Fox Mod, please let me know.
i suggest not using the 1.17 radio and sticking with the 1.14.25.35. definitely superior imo, and im in MA where ATT blows donkey kong, and i still get fixes really fast. atleast cell tower fixes are instantaneous.
With some of the first NRG roms i tried that had mylocation. My fuze would only pick up on the actual location if i was using wifi or if i turned my 3G off. For some reason, while on EDGE, location worked. Now though, my sim card was screwing up and dropping calls and when I swapped it out for a new one at an ATT store my location works almost 100% of the time on 3G, EDGE, or wifi.
My actual error is: No weather data available (with 3G\HSDPA and 2G\WIFI)
I own a Touch HD (Blackstone)
I am using this ROM: Miri WM 6.5 21885 :: MANILA 2.5 :: REV 15.0
My current Radio version is: 1.10.25.25
My current Rilphone version is: 1.14.25.24 BS Rilphone
My provider is: Zain KSA
It is working: sometime only when connected with GPS
I use AGPS: yes
I use GPS often: no
I have tweaked my device: no initially
I have been tampering with AGPS registry: no
Using Goolgemaps I get my position from the cell towers without problems: Yes, but I don't get it so accurate (within 1300m)
I am thinking it is related to......1) Accuracy of Google location service itself as long as it's still a beta service and it's sometimes inaccurate as in my case for example Google maps would show my location within 1300m from a center point in my city if my phone radio is on, while it would show it within 16100 m from a center point in another city if I turn off my radio and use wifi of my DSL router (my DSL ISP server is in another city which is about 600 km from my actual location). BUT, if I use GPS, my Google maps would show my actual location and HTC weather will get my location and update weather for it.
2) The way HTC manila integrates with google location service
N.B: it would be nice for us to test my theory if everyone writes what my location gives on google maps (acurte point vs. within xxxxxx meters from point)
issue solved

anybody from the philippines who's using gps on their athena?
may i ask what your gps settings are?
i'm using x7501.
ciao!
Your location is irrelevant as far as picking up GPS signals is concerned. You just need to ensure any GPS aware program is pointed at the correct COM port.
The hardware COM port is COM5, so pointing a program to COM5 @ 4800 Baud ought to work OK.
By default, the WM GPS Driver is active- Start/Settings/System/External GPS, and this may have the port settings changed, typically to COM4. This is only useful if you plan to use more than one GPS program concurrently. Personally I don't, so I have the Access tab's Manage Automatically unchecked.
Pinoy X7500 Toronto Based
Yes just use COM 5, 4800 Baud and you're all set to go. This is also the settings Im using on mine with iGuidance v4.
Im just curious, what GPS software & Maps are you using there? So that just incase I'll go "balik bayan" next year, I'll know what to use.
Here is a Philippine based Windows Mobile Forum:

While com 5 does work, it is not the fastest that will get the GPS lock.
For the absolutely fastest way to get GPS fix, see this thread (see post #51)

Thanks for that link Steve- the whole concept is fascinating I've seen similar problems using different Radio ROMs and I suspect some of these lock differences may be Radio related to an extent.
To put my logical hat on, I can't see how you can ever get a lock with any software port faster than using the hardware port, which on the Ameo/7500 is COM5. Maybe using the WMGPSID and a software port activates the GPS in the background (at intervals?) to get a quicker fix?
In like manner, I also find that using QGPS actually takes longer to get a fix than just opening the port directly- this may be a function of the Orange SIM I use, or the ORange service itself, as of course QGPS is carrier dependent on getting a good SIM location.
But the most confusing thing in my Ameo is that Radio 1.50 simply never gets a satellite lock (at least it takes 25-40 minutes) where 1.47 gives me a lock in 1-3 minutes regardless of whether I use COM5 or software COM4 or 8. I've tested, upgraded, downgraded and reupgraded to no avail. 1.47 works and 1.50 doesn't This is the same whether using TTN6,m iGO2006 or iGO2008 (which I suppose would be expected)
Hey all. Here's my config:
DCD 3.2.6
Radio 3.42.50
PRL 51056
PRI 1.35_002
I've also applied all of the QPST changes per gc14 with the PDE IPs, settings, etc. I've also verified that my default reg values are correct.
So I can now lock GPS outside within 2 minutes or so after applying all the patches. I do use GPS Viewer to prime, but am seeing a strange thing in all GPS progs now. GPS Viewer as well as iGO8 will flash 10 gps signals for 1 second every 5 seconds, then the signals will disappear, repeating this forever. I assume these are aGPS signals but i'm never getting a "lock" inside, only outside, even though my cell signal is fine inside. Anyone seen this problem, or have any idea what i should check next?
Thanks,
F

Does the "GPS" section of FieldTest.exe show pilot phase/strength/time offsets? These refer to pilot PN offsets (i.e. tower sectors), as far as my understanding goes. If you are using standalone GPS, my suspicion is that you won't see any data here, however, not having the capability to do standalone GPS on my device just yet, I can't be entirely certain.
Worth a look, though.
Me too

Yup, I have noticed this as well. Happens to me regardless of Radio, PRI, or ROM. I see it a lot with HTC GPS tool. Dont know what it means but I eventually get a lock. I think VZW still sucks and the PDE servers are not as good as Sprint maybe? Im not seeing the "5 seconds locks" everyone else is. I am however getting very fast locks, maybe 20 to 30 seconds. Nothing more than that though. On occasion I still fail to lock but far far less than I used to without the PDE infomration. I dont know what it is but I can confirm what you are seeing.

My Fieldtest doesn't have a GPS Group, so no info there. Any other ideas?
Sorry, it's FieldTrial.exe and not FieldTest.exe.
At least with the MR1 ROM, there's a Debug Info menu where you can select GPS to dump GPS debugging information.
When using AGPS on my device with VZ Navigator, this is updated with tower information. I don't have a device that uses standalone GPS, nor a device with a different ROM other than the MR1 ROM, so I can't really speak for that unfortunately.
I'm not completely certain that you won't see the PN-related fields filled in using standalone GPS mode. However, from my work at hacking on the V740 some time ago, I suspect that pilot phase values are going to be related to cell triangulation (time offset of the signal from the cell towers being used for triangulation against the current CDMA time when the signal was received by your device, i.e. propagation delay).

Hmm, maybe we are getting somewhere, but I dunno since I have never used FieldTrial.exe before. I just fired it up and the entire GPS tab shows N/A for EVERY field. Does anyone else see that with a working GPS?

Okay, I think that you're operating in standalone GPS mode.
Rationale:
With my device (on MR1), when I access the GPS through the custom interface that LBSDriver.dll uses (i.e. via VZ Navigator), I'll start to get data in FieldTrial.exe (on a fresh boot, all the fields are N/A). Of course, the latitude/longitude are garbage (having not been through the decryption logic) as shown in FieldTrial.exe for me, but the rest of the fields (e.g. altitude and GPS time, as well as cell tower triangulation data) show valid data.
To me, this indicates that FieldTrial.exe is just pulling AGPS-related data and not standalone data.
Can you try disabling the phone radio entirely (via Connection Manager or whatever the app is in your firmware) and see if that changes the lock speed at all? If not, that's further credence that you're not using assisted GPS. (Caveat emptor: I don't know if disabling the radio will also turn off standalone GPS, as I don't have any way to check that. It should be pretty immediately obvious to you if it does, though.)
Hi Mods!
I really sorry that I have to open new thread, because I and some others also posted here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405016&page=4
but it seems that no one can solve that problem correctly. And MODs seems that don't know about that problem.
So, could MODs give us some ideas and solutions.
For example: I used Original ROM, GPS with TT7 was OK.
But when I change to another ROM (any other ROM), it was so good that everything works well but not GPS.
Hope to hear from u soon.
Thank you.

You do know about the problem with validating maps for a new installation of TT7 ?
Do a google for this in xda -devs.
i used this TT7 on Kaiser and it worked like a champ.
and from your instruction, I also sink to another sea that the need information is somewhere but could not find out.
could u pls give me a better ideas. pls don't tell me that: google something in somewhere.
I spent so much time to discuss and post somewhere else.
thanks
Clarify.
Please explain the type of gps problems your having, Problems with getting fixes? Problems with tomtom?
I need yr help
thanks friend
My problem is here.
When I bought x7501, I installed TT7.45 with Map of North America. It work fast and better than Kaiser I had.
Then I tried to Up ROM to SPL 3.5 (every ROM for 3.5) and I could not use GPS. TT7 work but it only show the working screen with: Waiting for valid GPS signal... forever. And when I find the GPS position, it says: Poor signal.
I tried to change Radio version but failed.
I also tried to convert back to SPL 1.2 now and working with Official ROM 6.0 (but with SPL 1.2 Oliprof). I tried to change Radio version, from 1.47 to 1.57 to 1.58 but failed. So strange (because I had to format the drive when I convert back from SPL 3.5 to SPL 1.2 so I lost my backup file for SPL 1.2 for original ROM).
Now I can not receive GPS signal.
I also try to install GPS Proxy, but this program doesnt run in my Athena, it says: Negative exception and quit.
I aslo try to change th port for GPS to another COM port, but it will not turn on GPS device.
In my Athena, the default COM port for GPS is COM4.
So, that's my problem.
Could you help me with detail instruction.
So thanks and wait for your help
try
you can try going to
settings/system/external gps/
*
software port com 4,hardware leave it at none, set baud 9600,manage gps automatically checked
*
import attached reg file on device
*
install attached visual gps
*
run quickgps ,download updated empheris file
*
soft reset device
*
load visualgps, click agree, click edit, settings, set port to com4,baud 9600,click ok
*
hold device by window or go outside
*
Wait for grey signal bars to go blue then your set
*
load up ttn, click where u see signal bars in lower right, then agn on right above version number, configure gps to use other nmea, set com port 4,baud 9600
*
it should instantly have fix!
thanks friend
i hope it will work
i try it now then tell u later
but do u mean that it works for AP 4 only? or another rom?
What Radio do you have installed
i am confused because your sig says you have radio 1.57 but you say in your post above that you couldn't upgrade from radio 1.47.
AP4 needs at least radio 1.50 according to here http://www.htc-hackers.com/uploads/AP4_How_To_1.8.pdf

Steps are optimal for michy roms,ap4 gps should be blistering fast "out the box"! When I used ap4 I was using radio 1.57,and even indoors I had gps fixes in 30 secs after soft resetting.
As of now I use radio 1.58 for hsupa on michy 6.1 rom and have fairly good gps.The steps above emulate my settings with exception of rom.
GOOD NEWS - GPS is working like a rabbit
Hi friends
Firstly, so thanks to all of my new friends, who were trying to reply and show me the way to solve the problems.
Secondly, I want to give u the good news. Now GPS is working as a champ.
But it is a little bit difference with some guides from u.
- I follow the steps above and change the baudrate to 9600, but after reset, it comes back to 4800 as default.
- The COMPORT for program is COM 4. For the hardware, I set default is NONE.
- Then, I install VisualGPS.BeeLineGPS.v1.83.Build.125 and reset. After that I run Visual GPS Beeline first, it works after 20 seconds and lock my location when I stay in my car (The weather now is -1 celcius degree outside - very cold).
- Then I run TOMTOM, I choose BUILT IN GPS (but not other NMEA). And TOMTOM works perfectly after 10 seconds - I did that because I remember that I always chose BUILT IN GPS when I used TT7 with this one two weeks ago.
And here are some tests after that:
- I turn on Wifi, open DATA connection (that is a issue when I use Kaiser, if Data connection is opening, TT7 can not receive the signal), then open TT7 (without openning the VISUAL GPS), it works after 12 seconds.
- I come into my room (the second floor in a three floors house) and turn on TT7 without using any other software, it lock after 10 seconds with average 5-8 sats.
WOW. It can't be better.
But I still don't know which one help which one. Because, when I installed TT7, then I run it for the first time yesterday, it said: could not run because of the memory available.
Then I try to run GoogleMap (even if I did not connect to Wifi - so ofcourse GoogleMap only turned on but did not run with data), then I tried to open TT7 again and it run (confuse here, who can explain to me)
The problem only now is.... WIFI. I hope can fix it soon as the instructions from CMONEX.
Thanks friends.
slight correction
just a minor correction to guide after you stating baud rate returning to 4800, in external gps settings on hardware tab to change baud I notice you need to set hardware com port to com 5 first then setting baud to 9600 ,then click ok to save.Go back in external gps settings and back to hardware tab ,as you will notice settings saved but now this time select none in hardware port and leave baud at 9600 then hit ok.
As I remember in ap4 4800 baud was default and worked best with that rom anyway, and so far it works for you.I do recommend setting use other nmea in tomtom input your baud and software com port settings from external gps control panel because you used visualgps to boot up your gps to get sat fixes for tomtom, with these settings you dont have to use visualgps to warm it up.Make sure you update your quickgps evrey 2 days then soft reset and hold phone by window or go outside when you use gps with new emphemeris file from quickgps as it can take a lil bit longer to regain track ironically ,but once you get fix itll be super quick no matter where you are, even if you soft reset. The only time you need to have clear view of sky again to get sat fix is if you turn off device completely for an hour or 2, or update quickgps data agn in 2 days (up to full 3 sometimes) or flash a new rom :>.
For wifi,I dont kno how to fix, cmonex prob has to send you a special file to regain mac address so wifi can work even after spl changes.
I think this is important enough to warrant it's own thread - a heads up to anyone cooking ROM's!
Firstly, in the changelog, there's a fix for P4600 fails NI-SUPL (!!!)
NI is Network Initiated, this fix is probably related to E-911, SUPL-NI is typically triggered via SMS. Apparently a side effect of this is that MS-BASED and MS-ASSISTED SUPL modes both now work too (GPSMode registry key, 1=MS-ASSISTED, 2=MS-BASED, 3=MS-STANDALONE)
3 significant changes that I note are a new radio ROM version, and agpsnvsetting (registry key) is set to 1 instead of 5.. quickgps is updated also.
Anywho, somewhere inbetween these changes, QuickGPS now successfully transfers the A-GPS TLS Certificate to the chipset (i don't recall seeing this happen successfully before, certificate name is suplrootcert and can be found in \OEM\OperatorPkg)
Code:
18:24:35 [D:GPS] GPS: [SetupGPSConfigForGetPosition] Using AGPS settings from registry.
18:24:35 [D:GPS] [SetupGPSConfigForGetPosition] MCC = 310, MNC = 410
18:24:35 [D:GPS] [SetupGPSConfigForGetPosition] wGPSDynamicURL = h-slp.mnc410.mcc310.pub.3gppnetwork.org
18:24:35 [D:GPS] GPS: [SetupGPSConfigForGetPosition] Transferred from [h-slp.mnc410.mcc310.pub.3gppnetwork.org] to [209.183.32.112]
18:24:35 [D:GPS] GPS: [SetupGPSConfigForGetPosition] NEW ServerIP = 209.183.32.112
Anywho, I haven't tested beyond this configuration, but for anyone not on AT&T's network, you should be able to cook a ROM with these drivers from 5.08, the quickgps package, the suplrootcert, use the accompanying radio rom, and change the SUPL servers to something public (supl.nokia.com maybe)
It certainly warrants further scrutiny, but i'm almost positive A-GPS is functioning as it should have since day one now
I might suggest grabbing the AT&T ROM or my modified one here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/205473951/ATT-5.08-nocert-24mbPP-lite-new.ddi-v2.rar
and changing the values in the registry here to match your APN/Connection Name/SUPL Server (try supl.nokia.com/66.35.236.25/port 7275):
edit: supl.sonyericsson.com/212.209.45.84/port 7275 is also public
note all SUPL servers should utilize port 7275 - it is the IANA registered port (reference here: http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers) - also all SUPL servers should support the 1.0 standard which appears to be what's in use.
EDIT: It appears the domain name registration on 3gppnetwork.org, supl.nokia.com, supl.sonyericsson.com has expired and these URL's are no longer valid; the ONLY remaining functional public SUPL server i'm aware of is IP 209.183.32.112 - remove all hostnames from your /SUPL AGPS key.
Code:

anyone up for cabbing this properly?

Yes, you are correct. AGPS is working for me using a custom rom built off the leaked rom. I've been playing around with it for a couple of days now trying to figure out if I'm crazy or not. So, if I am crazy, that makes two of us now. previously I could not turn on AGPS without crashing my iGO and now this is working as well. They, being AT&T have finally resolved the issue or I have completely lost my mind. Both options are not entirely unlikely.

but have you noticed any changes regarding fix speed or whatever?
I've only had the patience to hard reset 3 times, but i've gotten a sub 15 second fix each time This is indoors where it has taken over 15 minutes to get a fix before. And 2-5 minute fixes are common. I made sure to clear all epheremis data etc. as i've done in previous gps tests.
I doubt the fix was on AT&T's side, they don't do much if actual programming, largely just submit requests to HTC.. the fix on their end would be to get the SUPL server working where it wasn't before, but then the older AT&T ROM would now be working too..

Yes. I am seeing locks in less than 15 secs after updating QuickGPS. However, I must note that I am using GPSOneAPP to test with custom settings. I am also not seeing any lag at all. I am using the new 1.12.25.19 radio along with the corresponding rilphone.dll as well.

For me, this latest radio is by far the best. 2nd best is any Blackstone radio. I am going a solid 3 days and no ATW, I'm not switching off 3G. This is everday use mind you. I don't do a lot of surfing, but I have 3 email accounts checking every hour, a lot of mms/sms messages and maybe 5-10 calls a day. This usage is typical for me.
Regardless of that though, the point is that AGPS is working correctly or at the very least, it seems to work. That to me is the major deal.
Edit:
I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you my location. Middle to lower East Coast, USA.
Good stuff, I'll have to try it out later.
I'm using your clean ROM Da_G and I will try GPS on my way home.
I still had speed lag when I used the leaked ROM though, but my fixes did seem faster.

Which ROM are you using. I would like to give a shot, I'm currently on Arup's v5, but I'm having a few issues with it. Thanks.

Over the .32 radio I am having excellent luck with battery. Instead of ending the day at about 8pm (from 5am) with about 20-30% battery life, I'm ending in the 40% now. I do a lot of bluetooth calls, heavy SMS, and constant activesync push email with about 50 emails a day. Needless to say, the radio and the Energy ROMs have turned my fuze from not making it till 8pm, to making me not even worry about playing a bit of youtube on the train on the way home.

I am using Arup's v5 and I am seeing these great results as well. I am on the latest BS radio .16 with RIL to match. Checkout my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3418334&postcount=147
I'm running the 1.12.25.19 Radio and RRE v5. I can confirm that AGPS is working with this combo. Typical indoor lock of < 10 seconds, outdoor lock < 5 seconds.
I still have lag though. Driving at 30 MPH, I measure the lag to be in the range of 2-3 seconds in Google Maps, OCN8, and Garmin Mobile XT. That translates to a range of about 90-140 ft. (25-40 meters). Lag has been a constant for me. All of the combinations of Raphael radios, ROMs, and registry tweaks that I've tried have still resulted in the same lag.
Just using the new stock leaked rom, I can also confirm that I'm getting under 10 second locks consistently, and I haven't ran into 1 instance where I haven't been able to get a lock. Prior to this I haven't been able to get locks at all without running GPSTest for around a minute or so and then starting up my GPS software. It's absolutely amazing!
Da_g anyyway you can do this:
"Anywho, I haven't tested beyond this configuration, but for anyone not on AT&T's network, you should be able to cook a ROM with these drivers from 5.08, the quickgps package, the suplrootcert, use the accompanying radio rom, and change the SUPL servers to something public (supl.nokia.com maybe)"
Without doing any kitchen work? There a way you can just insert the drivers using a patched NK.exe and then put this in w/e it is lol "suplrootcert"

Thanks for the info! I am on the latest RAPH radio .19. I read that Arup is using the latest .19 rilphone.dll so I performed a hard reset and enabled AGPS and now all is great! Indoor gps lock in 15-20 seconds! I guess I didn't need to do the whole rename rilphone2.dll and registry changes, maybe that is what messed me up in the first place.

Are you using the rilphone2.dll file and registry tweak? I and others seem to have had great improvements in lag when applying this
I had the feature in other roms that would give me an approximate location on Google Maps almost instantly when it was opened. Within 2400 meters or so. With the new NFSFAN rom this is not the case. It finds GPS lock, but until then it has no idea where I am. The weather location thing works so aGPS should be working, just not working in Google Maps.
Not sure if it will work in your rom, or even be the problem. I assume you are talking about tower based location.
The rom I was using it worked then suddenly stopped after upgrading. I compared the registries and found that for some reason some keys in the registry werent being created. I added these and it started working again.
HKLM>software>google>googlemaps
supports_extended_ril value=1
(this will enable location based off of cell phone tower)
supports_extended_wifi value=1
(this will enable location based off of your wifi access point)
You will need to restart google maps for it to take effect.
hope it helps.

what is your distribution_channel value set to? I have it at gmm-htc trying to see if that is preventing me from connecting to the gps towers.
i don't have HKLM>software>google>googlemaps
I have: HKLM>software>google>cll>permission list>services.exe
I put those values in cll since there was nothing in the other two and it did not work.
I'm also trying to get GPS to work on NFSFAN's 1.05 ROM (either aGPS or GPS). I don't have the registry keys mentioned above either.
I'm on the latest USCC radio.

Do you have the right COM port and baud rate set up? If your GPS isn't working right, you may have to manually set up the hardware parameters. Try to use QuickGPS/HTC GPSTool/VisualGPS or whatever GPS tool NFS cooked in his rom and see if it can connect and get a few locks.

??? is that a key also for google maps, I dont have one like that. I just have the two mentioned keys (after I added them) along with one other key.
Have you tried adding the above keys and see if it helps?
Keep in mind, I am not currently using the same rom as you, its just a problem I noticed with my rom and the keys fixed it.

I could be wrong, but I believe you only need to setup the com and baud rate when using an external gps or using your phone as a gps for something else (ie computer)
Good luck!

Not necessarily. If the software that you are using doesn't detect the hardware right away, you have to manually set it up. I happened to my Fuze when I had it. I had iGo8 and had to input the settings by hand. Same thing with my Vogue.
waiting for this one
I have been waiting for this to be discussed. I am on NFSFAN's ROM on verizon and google maps is not working. I will try the above reg hacks and report back
Adding those two reg keys did not work for me. Deepsix who is your carrier?
Just on a note. I have the latest NFS and this feature works for me in Google maps, even though I have the phone disabled and the Data connection turned off as well. I use my Touch as a WiFi VoIP device only.
When I start I get an approximate location, and when I click on the little blue dot it gives me my locale within 100 Meters.
I also did not install any of the providor specific cabs that are in the first post on the NFSFAN thread.
It does work with wifi but not over the towers which is what is really useful. Good to know that it does at least work with wifi though.
Try the provisioning.cab file for your carrier?
At the risk of offending and stating the obvious did you guys with the GPS problems install the carrier specific provissioning .cab in order to get GPS working?
If not, try it:
the attached files on the first post of the thread titled " *Updated March 5th* NFSFAN's Custom WM6.5.5 ROMs "
I'm not allowed to post links yet.

That wont help you, its a very small regional carrier. "inland cellular" I have never been able to get google maps to work even on a stock phone from them. Adding those two reg entries was the only way I could get it to work for me.
Sorry it didnt work for you. I know how frustrating it can be.
Just to make sure everyone understands, the GPS would always for with the location, but when gps is off its supposed to get its location based off of the cell tower id/wifi router id's Thats what the reg edits did for me. You can tell what your getting your location from becuase of the accuracy. GPS said it was within a couple yard where as tower based it was within a couple miles.
Ok I took my touch pro and flashed the most recent nfsfan rom and tried google maps location. With GPS on, I could get a location, with gps off and wifi on, I could get a location, with gps off and wifi off, using only cellular data I COULDNT get a location.
I closed google maps.
went to regedit and scrolled to
hklm--software--google
for some reason there is not a key titled googlemaps, I am not sure if thats because its baked in the rom or what.
So...
I created a new string under google titled -- googlemaps
under google maps I created a new string value titled supports_extended_ril with a value of 1
I restarted google maps location and with only the cellular data enabled, it gave me a location instantly.
On a side note, there is another key under google titled cll, dont quote me, but I believe thats created for when you enable 'my location' in the sense theme so that your location shows up on the weather tab. I am not sure if you need to enable that also, I did enable it first so if you are still having troubles, try enable that also.
Hope that helps. It seems to work on any rom I have tried it on. Like I said in previous posts, even the stock rom wouldnt give me that location. I dont think it is carrier specific, as if I understand it correctly, google is sent what tower you are using via tower id code, then google compares that to their list of tower locations. Google then send back your approximate location. They also do that with wifi routers.
Let me know if it works for you.

Thanks for the very detailed scientific post. I have not been able to get GPS working on USCC, there is no carrier cab for it.
I didn't realize after setting the registry entry's that you had to turn off the GPS option in google maps. After turning that off it found my "approximate" location very quickly within half a mile or so of where I was (after also editing the registry).
Thanks everybody! It works well enough for me not to care
That worked for me as well. Thanks! I must have been doing it wrong before because that is a more detailed explanation of what was suggested earlier if I am not mistaken. I cannot believe google would screw something so simple up.
