Is there a way to get emoji on the HTC Hero? I have been searching on a few android forums and google without much luck.
I thought I would ask since it has become popular enough on the iPhone.
Here is an example of the emoji available on the iPhone.

As a previous iPhone owner I really miss the possibility to use emoji. That is actually the only feature I miss. Long live Android
I hate bumping threads, but I want emoji on the android so here is a silly bump.
Happy new year!
True enough, I would like to bump for this emoji thingy as well.
bump!.. no news about this?
Bump!! I am getting a Droid and would love to have emoji on it!!!!
I want emoji for my N1
I think that this would be a really useful and nice addition to Android. I read somewhere that Google and Apple were talking about standardization of emoji.
http://www.tipb.com/2009/06/29/apple-google-propose-standardized-encoding-emoji/
I wish the Unicode consortium would hurry up!
In the mean time, are there any iPhone-emoji compatible fonts available? In for example Racing Live, I mostly see Japanese characters, in place of emoticons.
Bumpity bump bump! I need me some emoji love too. No IME's have it? I saw the ttf file for it but the pic are horrible.
Any sign of getting emoji on android in the not so distant future ?
lol most people have just bumped this thread Search the market for emoji and it should show an app called IMoNi that has emoji icons for use in it (its an email app) but unfortunatley unless you can read japanese (i think it japanese) you won't e able to use it
any news there???
I think Google is working on this (you can find stub code for emoji stuff in the Android source)... what I don't get is, why Softbank hasn't developed an emoji email app for the Desire they carry.
There also is an app called emogmail, but it's only available on the Japanese android market. Haven't tried to use Market enabler yet, but you should be possible to get it through that.
If you just want Emoji icons to show up instead of being empty boxes, follow the instructions on this thread:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=690781
Any more news on this?
Cheers
Softbank is going to release their own mail app containing color emoji around october downloadable from the market
httx://mb.softbank.jp/mb/product/X/x06ht2/feature_4.html
Well, there's this app called "KeitaiText" I guess it's the closest you will get right now for Emoji in SMS... for emails the same dev made a different app.
I don't think Google will strive for compatibility with CURRENT iPhone emoji, since they use SoftBank encodings.... maybe when emoji are standardized in Unicode... but only the newer devices will be compatible, since entirely different encodings are used for the emoji chars.
Emoji's for Motorola Droid
If you want to use emoji's in your texts you now have a free app that will let you. On the Droid go to the Market place and search emojis then select emoji/goomoji and install it
++bump++
Any updates>?
as i know whatsapp for android support iphone's emoji.

OK so I've made it official and contacted the creator of the BN 3rd Place font asking for permission to modify his font. (I know this is long over due and most have the font already but now its legit)
The only modifications that were made were to make it look more like the font used in Verizon's Droid commercials.

The original font: BN 3rd Place
Created by Ben Nathan of hafontia.com

NOTE: This is a Hebrew font and will show up further down the list than English fonts in Photoshop.
Ok, donning my flame-proof suit before asking questions. (I did try putting "BN 3rd place" into the search box first...honest, this was the only hit I got) So is this a font you install to your phone for your viewing on the phone? Or can you incorporate it into texts or emails you send from the phone so others see it? Does it work in conjunction with another app? How do you go about installing it? Just trying to get edumacated. Your patience will be appreciated.

I was actually hoping for something a little more exciting 'phone-wise', but thanks for the answer just the same.
Sorry, this was not intended to be a font to change the text on your phone it was fixed up for people who want to use [insert name of word processing or photo editing software] to create content with a verizon droid like font.
You may be able to use it on a rooted phone but I have no idea how to change fonts since I haven't gotten around to trying it yet.
It's pretty easy to do.
Rename the ttf to droidsans.ttf (It will only change non-bold letters, though.) and place it under /system/fonts.
I just purchased aTAKEphONE T9 dialer and I think it is so much better than the one from SE.
It has a T9 dialer, detailed call logs, etc. Love it.

Can't find it in the market with my SE X10 mini unbrandet.
I have used aContacts which is also very good. But I found a bug which fails to invoke the call log screen occassionally. Otherwise both these apps are good and way ahead of the default dialler+phonebook combined together.
ATakephone was also not found by me in the market (People says it depends on country you stay - infact none of the buyable apps are shown in my country in India).

Couldn't find it in the Market so downloaded it straight from the site, shsh dot com (not allowed to post URLs as a "newbie" - hack, I joined this site in 2005!)
I used TAKEphONE on my Treo's and loved it, but didn't really have a need for it on my G1. As the dialer of the Mini Pro is crap (am I missing something or are the Contacts really entirely separated from it?), I figured going back to my old friend Shimon and his app would be worth a try.
So far I am very impressed. The only two complaints are that the help pop ups are too long and can't be scrolled, and that the i-bar Favorites images are displayed on top of the Last Call bar. No showstoppers but I've informed the developer of these two.

Far has I know it is still in beta over there in China.... but I can not read chinese....
Here are some pictures!
I really like this keyboard it has always been one of my favorites ever sense the first beta last year. now they have made lots of changes and it is even better.
When you install it it will be in chinese. you will need to go to settings and switch it to english.
Looks nice. Downloading now.
EDIT: Just tried it out for a while. Verdict: It's great!
Once you turn off the Chinese language, the text prediction is great, and the buttons are quick and responsive. I like the option to have different layouts for portrait vs. landscape (even though I just use QWERTY for both). The edit button is top center, and very handy, since I came from a G1 and the Vibrant has no trackball/d-pad to edit words. One note though, the delete button in Edit deletes the next character, not the previous. Not a huge deal, since the backspace on the keyboard still deletes the previous character and you could just select what you need to delete in the Edit screen, just a weird change. If you don't know what I mean, try it out yourself, it's worth a try at least
I love that style of keyboard with the two letters per key (Like on my original Blackberry Pearl).
@Phromik
Yeah it is a great little keyboard. my favorite feature is being able to swipe to change from T9 to QWERTY

I am new to the Android side of XDA just picked up my Vibrant 2 days ago and loving it.............
My favorite too......one of the first things I downloaded to my Vibrant and seems to work pretty well just missing the ability to save passwords or url or email adresses (one click entry in the username or password box for websites is really slick and I miss that the most). It is still beta so we will see if they implement it later on.
Link not working... looks fun though

Go to Market and search for Touchpal... is in Chinese but you can change setting easily
Um, why does the app need access to Contacts and Voice Recorder?
I ask, because we (in the I.T. dept) are being bombarded by Chinese malware and such.
The permissions do seem a bit excessive for a keyboard.
Requires these permissions:
Your personal information
read contact data
Network communication
full Internet access, view network state, view Wi-Fi state
Hardware controls
control vibrator, record a
Having just spent $20 on 8 different keyboards and trying various 'free' keyboards as well, Im wondering what you all find works well for the Note.
Right now, I find Better Keyboard 8.9.9 on the Amazon Market ($3) the keyboard that is working well for me, primarily because it extends the size of the 2nd and third row keys to fit the phone's width which makes the keys easier to hit. All the settings are stock except I disabled auto correct as it keeps changing my abbreviations to words I dont intend (bldg for example keeps getting changed to either bulldog or another word that is slipping my mind).
Supposedly Swiftkey has very good text prediction which might be interesting but I havent used it enough yet to know. Not yet sure the difference between the tablet version ($3) and the phone version (free) nor do I know which I should use for the Note. My assumption is the $3 version would offer more than the free version but I havent had a chance to look at it.
Of course, one of the other things about the keyboard stuff is that it requires using for a few days to determine if a keyboard is working for you.
Im also looking for a good speech to text app, it needs to be something I can select from the keyboard when it appears - ie. clicking the little microphone in the corner on whatever keyboard appears (not sure if Android lets you use a custom keyboard and change the voice recognition app from Google Voice to something else). It is important to be able to toggle the voice recognition from the keyboard as I am using some custom software on my Android phone for work that requires me to do text entry, the app does not support anything other than a keyboard meaning that I want to bring the keyboard up, tap the mic in the corner, say what I need to and have that automatically put into the field. Google Voice is ok but Im wondering if there isnt something better.
My favorite by far is the tablet Swype beta. Some people find the keys to be too small, but I find that it works great for me, and my fingers are fat. Also, using the spen makes it the fastest and most accurate text entry method I have used by far. It also includes speech to text through dragon dictate, which can be activated by the key on the keyboard and is very accurate, more accurate than the stock android voice recognition in my opinion. Here is a picture of the keyboard:

UPDATE!: Got the right font for emoji, fixed link, and everything should be working now.
They DO work in text messages, as you can see in the screenshots. I am now running Viper S 1.4.1 and i installed these and now have a working emoji keyboard, and they are all visible.
Ok so i've been trying to get this new emoji keyboard onto pretty much any stable rom i could. I first saw it on SpeedRom9.
Since then i've been searching for a way to get that on CM10.
Luckily after much surfing the web i found a flashable zip that gives us this awesome keyboard! :victory:
I was unable to find the original post where this dev uploaded the file to, but his name is klobkelosh.
I in NO WAY, am the creator of this file, or have any association with it, just wanted to share it with everyone else
Also please keep in mind that if you do not have the proper fonts, you will most likely be unable to see/use this keyboard!![/FONT]
If it still doesn't work, then you will most likely need the 4.2 Keyboard which can be found here

Cant flash fonts pack
cant flash font pack also
Can we see some screens of the actual keyboard?
Or am I missing something? Is this just a stock-looking keyboard with an emoji button?
Thanks!
Sorry guys been a bit busy with work n stuff, they got me working all holidays.
About to take a look into the font pack, and get back to you guys on that.
For some reason my screenshots broke on CM10 and wouldn't display.
EDIT: Font should be fixed, and the keyboard is fully functional on just about everything.
Had to switch roms because CM10 was no longer taking screenshots correctly.
