It's my understanding that there are currently two updated ROMS to download - the Modaco one and the generic HTC update found on the Modaco thread.
My question is, having rooted the phone, why would the Modaco one be a better bet? I feel like I may as well go for the generic one. I am a bit of a noob when it comes to things liked this, so a summary of pros and cons to each would be extremely helpful. For instance, does the generic ROM allow root access?
Also, for anyone in the same position as me, check out the unlockr guide videos on rooting and upgrading the ROM on your phone - http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/27/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-your-htc-hero/
So handy!
Thanks.
This is just from what (i think) I know...
1/ Has additional apps that are useful e.g. CustomLocale, Spare Parts, Anycut, Wifi teethering, A2SD etc. You can get these yourself but obviously you would have to do the leg work.
2/ and you get all the stuff listed on the first page of the Modaco ROM thread.
3/ If you use the generic HTC ROM it won't be rooted.
4/ Most of the folders you would want write access to are already mounted by default. If you are a noob this will save you working out how to do this.
For me it was a no brainer to use the MCR.
Thank you for the response! What do you mean by 'write access' ?

"Write Access" means you can copy files on to the drive/folder. Android is based on unix so by default you don't have write or even read access to quite a few of the folders you would normally need access to for modding, copying files, deleting files, putting files on your phone etc.
You have to do this via a command prompt either from your computer when the phone is connected or using an emulator on the phone. You may or may not want to do any of these things but it would generally make life easier for you if you wanted to.
Ok. Thanks for breaking that down for me Isim.
All that remains for me to do now is partition my SD card. I have looked at some of the guides and they scare the ****e out of me. What's the simplest way of partitioning? Do I have to enter the world of command-line prompts? Any programs with a GUI?
Hi Isim , just another quick question does this rom support portuguese language, thanks

If you flash to the generic ROM, you'll have to root your device again since the generic ROM won't be rooted (assuming it is the unadulterated WWE release).

We've updated a bit....
Download Link: [Here]
We now have a complimentary app on the app store for this A4D App.
What is A4D?
The goal of A4D is for us to move beyond just N1 make it an all in one flashing/upgrading/android utility. We just added a ROM library with MD5s. We are not going to be hosting the actual ROMs by themselves so if you report a dead link, they will be taken down (after a number of reports). You can also add your own ROMs as well into the library.
The ROM library will be supported by both Android and Desktop App. We are rewriting the Desktop apps so that we can do all 3 platforms in one, Linux, Windows, and Mac. You'll love the layout of the app. That's all we can say for now.
Oh one more thing. The android app won the best android app award at the Mobile in the Middle Hack-a-thon over the weekend in Chicago (on 3/6/2010).
I would like you guys to try out the app and tell us feedbacks. Also feel free to add your own ROMs to the Database and tell us how we can make the DB better. There a number of features we are trying to add as well. But with our full time jobs... things are going a little slower than we wanted. Sorry.
Requirements to run the app on Android: Amon_RA's recovery. That's what we tested it with.
Reserved
Reserved for Future Updates / Changelog
Can't wait to see if this is fool proof.
Add md5 check. Make it in this way: user have to enter/copy-past md5 hashsum from forum/site. Program calculates md5 of image and says image is good or bad. Also you can disable flashing with out this check. ;-)
good idea. Will do that. That will help with flashing screwed up downloads.
Hi
Thank you for sharing the application.
Does it flash the radio too? I mean CyanogenMod has two files a radio ROM and a CyanogenMod ROM. Does it flash both of them to the phone?
Thanks.
Radio flash is in there we took it out. May do so in the next release but radio flashing is dangerous (can brick phones) so...
Hey Lwin,
Nice concept man, this is gonna prove very handy for many peeps.
You've come up trumps again
So, this is a desktop application?
Does it flash ROM's from your desktop or copy them over and just run the commands on the phone for you?
I ask, as I'm having some problems flashing now, based round a slightly faulty Micro SD card. Does it store backups on the phone or on your desktop PC?
This program is written so you don't have to do command line commands. Everything else remains the same. If you are doing a Nand backup, it goes where it used to go.
I would recommend fixing your "slightly faulty Micro SD card" by getting a new card.
nice app for those that aren't familiar with cmd or jus pure...lazy lol
maybe the screens should be bigger as quite hard to see clearly whats available.
Pure Genius...

Here is the GUI tool for unlocking, updating, restoring, flashing of the N1 (and in theory should work on all HTC androids).
Try it out and see if it is useful. The tool is made to help for people with very basic skills since the tool at this stage is a wrapper for the shell commands at this point.
Again, as usual, we take no responsibility for loss of sleep, loss of phone or screw ups on our side (due to app) or on your side (due to lack of ability to follow instructions).
I wish to make it more simple. We welcome feed backs.

There will be a mac port sometime this week. I can most likely port to linux too but if you know linux and if you have to use wrapper, you have an issue
install issues
I tried to install it but got a system update required....
extracted the sdk to the folder C:\android-sdk-windows
extracted android4dummies and clicked setup
I get a pop up with the following:
unable to install or run the application. the application requires that system assembly system.data, entry version 3.5.0.0 be installed in the global system cache.....???
What do I do now?
Sounds like the app uses .NET framework 3.5.
So goto microsoft website an get 3.5 .Net Framework.

You do need .Net 3.5. It should have asked you, if not installed that as a prerequisite.
I went to MS and downloaded the .net 3.5 installed it (apparently it was already on my pc, so instead of installing I tried to repair it. no success....

Can you send us a screenshot.
Do not unzip into C:\android-sdk-windows. App will install SDK or search for the SDK there.
Unzip on your desktop or temp and install from there.
just to be clear, I unzipped adroid sdk and placed in the mentioned location. the android4dummies is extracted on the desktop and executed from there..
so should I remove the SDK and retry?
I have a massive headache trying to figure all this stuff out.
I have a t-mobile hd2
RAM of 576 and Speed of 1024MHz and Flash of 1024MB
when hold the volume and power button, it reads the following:
PB81120 SS-B3
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x40
I downloaded the andriod installer on my computer, along with HSPL, HSPL2, and HSPL3.
My objective is to hopefully get android on my Leo.
Ive read all the threads and im just really confused...I ran HSPL2 and i get an error screen that says i have a bad Model ID.
PLEASE HELP ME...IM SO LOST!!
You have some options:
1. Use search function of the board. (recommended)
2. Try to get the answer is the Android porting thread. I suggest to search the thread first (recommended, too)
3. this one

i tried all of that and i get so confused...can someone actually help me?
I'm going to help so many next time you will help yourself and look a little more.
First of all you dont need to flash and thing to run android. It is in beta currently and is ran buy haret which is kinda like a emulator. When you read the link below you will realize that it has all kinds of problems. Those problems are known. There is also a Faq about those problems and what you can do to help solve them.
there are not instructions on how to operate android. By trying this we assume you know a little bit about android.
It looks like you already have the hslp but I am also going to provide a link on how to flash rom's and radio's.

No disrespect ment to you as I do know you have been around for a while. But it seems as though he doesnt have much experience in doing this.
That would seem like its just gunna cause more problems. there is still problems with power management. So its gunna eat away at his battery. This I know because I run android almost full time and thats a risk i'm just willing to deal with.
Secondly it boots right into android no stopping at windows. So if something goes wrong he is stuck. And will have to reflash.
I tried it and couldnt tether and had to go right back. Maybe he doesnt need to tether so it could be fine but I really think he should start off slow.

Android is a completely different operating system than windows mobile. The android app store and the apps will not work in windows mobile!
If you try to install a windows application on linux OS you will fail too.

the problem is i have no idea what's best to use and what kind of things i have to download to get it work properly.
hopefully someone can help me with this, it will be very appreciated
thanks alot.

Firstly make sure you have a winmo rom the is android friendly, then download an android build that you like the look of, place it on the root of your mem card /android , then run clrcad followed by haret in the android dir (get one of the many launchers to automate that though), first boot of android will take a fair while though, finally enjoy.

ok thanks,
htcpedia.com/kwbr_HD2_com3_Android/soft/htc-leo-rom.html is this any good ? or is there anything where i can download an entire package ?
thanks
I personally use the Artemis rom as I like a rom that is as clean and default as a stock rom as possible but with the latest updates and have FroyoStone_Sense_V2 running along side it with no problems (well other than the ones known to the dev ) launched by Android_Loader_V4.1 (sorry no links, all easy found with the search on here).
It all seems confusing at first but becomes second nature soon enough, don't forget you will need to HARDSPL your device first, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433 for all the info.
okay, is that the most common one used by others ? i have no idea what i should choose lol thanks for the info so far
I would like to know what will happend if i will flash the rainbowmod 2.1 rom on my Lumia 800 with the One key flashing tool.
Does it work ? or it is necessary to flash the partition 3 files under linux.
It would be easyer for me to do it under windows; not having eny experience with ubuntu.
As it says on the rainbowmod instructions;
Before flashing this custom ROM you must flash this file to sdb3 partition (thx biktor_gj)
Thank you,
Hi there,
as far as i know, RainboMod 2.1 will only work with updated files on partition 3.
The actual files for partition 3 (in the first post) are not up-to-date and will only work for RainbowMod 2.0.1.
We still have to wait until lucifer puts his 2.1 version back online, with the updated files for partition 3 i posted on page 12 of the thread.
For now, you can only use 2.0.1 version.
You can try if the rom works, if you only flash partition 9 using nokia lumia downloader in windows.
If it does not work, you have to flash the files of partition 3, which can only be done in linux.
It's very simple, i can help you when you need help.
cheers
help needed
Hello,
So i would gladly use your help,
I just finished installing ubuntu.
As i understand the procedure should be the same for my lumia800 as in these instructions for the lumia 700.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626317 (100%noob instructions). Am i right?
only thing missing there is the 3rd partition instructions, but if im not wrong the commands should be the same, only have to flash the 3rd partition.Yes?
(6.4: Now using the partition we obtained in step 4 (In my case: sdc9) use this command to flash your phone with the unlocked firmware:
Code:
dd if=os-new.nb of=/dev/sdX9
Replace X with your partition letter (In my case it's c)
so in my case I would enter:
Code:
dd if=os-new.nb of=/dev/sdc9)
Thanks in advance Lordmaxey
hi there,
yes, first, check your drive letter using
sudo fdisk -l
this will show you if your phone is sda, sdb, sdc etc...
for flashing partition 3 it's the same as flashing partition 9 ( dd if=os-new.nb of=/dev/sdc9 )
of course you have to replace 9 with 3 and the input file (if), so it will be: dd if=partition_3_file of=/dev/sdc3
cheers
CAUTION:
Before flashing anything i strongly recommend you backing up every single partition.
eg. sudo dd if=/etc/sdX1 of=backup_partition_1
sudo dd if=/etc/sdX2 of=backup_partition_2
...
repeat for every drive letter
...
sudo dd if=/etc/sdX9 of=backup_partition_9
Thank you lordmaxey,,
i will try..
Done,,
Feeling good.
Thank you again lordmaxey.
So now i checked around a little bit, and i like it allot, especially file explorer, what i was missing . Only one app what i miss is the nokia drive,
i used it allot. Is it possible to deploy this or is this complicated.

Ok tried that, but incountered a small problemo, live id key.
searched the forum for eny useful information, . Found some, but aint very shore, how to obtain the live id key asked by microsoft.
so if you have some useful informatipn, i would appreciate it,
hope i wont bother you after this, at least for a while,
Tnx Lmaxey,
did you make a backup of all partitions as i recommended?
if yes, you can use DPPImplant to "extract" your activation code from your backup file.
you'll find dppimplant here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25126572&postcount=642
no worries, that's what we're here for: helping
So i have to tell you the whole story. (you can laugh on my stupidity, no harm don )
Wanted to unlock my lumia by TP. So i ordered the atf box, cables and everything. Not beeing the best solderer in the world i managed to destroy a resistor, but fortunatly the phone still works(only not giving the tp connection). Im no quitter , so i bought a used phone with a brocken LCD.
So now;
1. i have my old phone with DLOAD where should be my Live ID. (is it possible to exctract the key under linux from dload?)
2. And the TP unlocked used phone what i flashed with some old rom, dowloaded when i was searching information about the TP unlock .
After that i managed to flash the rainbowmod by your help.
And yes , i didnt make partition backups,
because I THOUGHT :good: that if i allready flashed it with the older rom , this live id info would be owerwritten.
so it wouldn be eny use for me to backup a custom rom partitions.
And maybe this used phone had somebody elses ID, what i couldnt have used enyway.
This all has to happend to me.
what are my chances?
Wow... holy sh**

Yes, the live ID was overwritten anyway, so you're right
Of course i didn't know this situation, that's why i told you to make a backup.
What you can do now:
- TP unlock your resistor-broken DLOAD Lumia, backup and do the DppImplant thing i posted above
- use the avtivation code posted in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32700983&postcount=7
but note: this is not your activation code, so i don't know what happens if you're using it.

Yeah, sure
you have to install Wmdc on your pc, and you have to install the wmdc launcher on your phone.
- then open the application on your phone, select "launch" (click launch to run windows mobile device center phone client)
- then swipe right and selcet all 3 boxes (start wmdc automatically, start debugger automatically, use vs debugger from pc)
- connect your phone to your pc
if wmdc is not starting automatically on your pc, open it.
you should now see your phone.
strange, its not connecting.
I have tried with the zune running in the background, and viceversa.
Allso in the device manager it shows prtable devices-lumia 800 ---This device is working properly.
Eny ideas,
All the best,
