any way to change the soft keys to 2 keys? - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

Hi,
sorry if I'm cross-posting. i posted in the 'tael' rom thread yesterday and realized that it actually applies to lots of 6.5 roms. my question is, is there a way (sorry if it was mentioned, i searched but couldn't find anything) to change the soft keys so that it has only 2 keys (left most and right most) like the older 6.1 style (or some 6.5 has it also like Energy). i know the left 'win' key is helpful too, but it's just very convenient when you are driving or can't really look at your phone to find the middle of the bottom portion of the screen to get to the softkey, whereas if they were at the leftmost and rightmost area it is so much easier to get to. so wondering if there's a cab or something already out there?
thanks.

How to add a lock button to the Today screen on WM6.5

Before I get on to my question as the title states, I'd just like to say that I'm a long time lurker of this site, however this is my first post as you can tell. I've used a number of ROMs for my Sprint Mogul over the last year and a half or so and just want to extend my appreciation to all those that have put so much time and effort into these devices.
Now onto the question at hand,
I have downloaded and loaded up Ryan Mogul's WM6.5 sprint heavy ROM that he listed. And everything is working very smoothly so far. However, I have to say that I'd really like to add a lock button to the Windows Default Today screen. The only way I have found to lock the phone so far is to go to start and then click lock at the bottom left. I have looked through the utils and options and so far the only way to add the lock to the today screen is to get rid of the sliding menu on the today screen and go back to the old style from 6.0-6.1. Can anyone tell me how I can add a lock button to one of the panels on the windows default today screen?
Any help that can be provided is much appreciated.

i found a cab for a program called devicelock 1.2. i installed that and then mapped it to one of the buttons that i don't use (the press and hold for voice command). i find it quicker to use a hard key than to navigate to it. i also added it to the applications panel (or whatever those things are called). i am not sure where the .exe is at but you can manually map it as \windows\start menu\programs\device lock.lnk

How do you remap hardware keys?

On the Hero I feel that the volume control buttons on the left hand side of the unit are wasted. I would much rather turn them into scroll up/down buttons to give me an experience similar to the scroll wheel on my HTC TyTN 2 (Oh how I miss that scroll-wheel) - does anyone know how to do this?
Cheers,
Mike
I had a similar question about this. I have held the hero and played with it before. impatiently awaiting mine to get here on Thursday. from my short run from it, the back button annoyed the hell out of me, i think it should have swapped placed with the search key.
For those of you who have the hero, is this an annoyance to you? do you still wish it would have been closer to the trackball? or did you get used to it?
if your answers are : yes, yes, and no, anyone know how to go about getting the ball rolling on remapping these buttons? thanks alot.
You have to edit the files in /system/usr/keylayout with an Editor like Notepad++ or Textpad.
I was also interested in remapping the back key so thanks for providing an answer the the query.
I have tried to find some application to edit the files you pointed at, unfortunately, none of the notepads I tried seem to be able to open the files. Have I missed anything (apologies if I am asking a somewhat obvious question...)
Thanks for enlightening me
There should be some kind of way to access thoses files from the handset, but I guess it could be easier and more pratical to access them from your computer, by mouting /system through adb.
I have had the hero for about 3 weeks and unfortunately I find the back button still difficult to press when holding in one hand. I bet left handets have no probs tho.

custom appearance

Im pretty much a noobie to this format of phone. Im fairly good with pc's but still getting to grips with a few things.
Its my first htc and wimo phone. very impressed so far. already installed swype and torch cabs, both have been very useful already.
but there are a lot of threads with different home screens, lock screens, icon alterations, themes etc etc. I take it these are registry edits??
I plan on installing a reg editor soon but I saw something in a tutorial vid that made me post. The call buttons at the bottom of the phone i saw were green and red. a little google seach says that tmob versions came with this.
as mine is a factory standard mine are white. is this simply the colour of the actual button or does a reg edit or cab allo the colour to be altered?
cheers
They are hardware buttons with the color on the buttons.

[Q] *[q]is it possible to change the original hd2 keybored?*

Is it possible to change the original htc hd2 keybored to a new keybored like android without flashing a new rom?? I rly like the android keybored... Plz do not post the swype OR TOCUHPAL keyboARdS.. Thanks!!!
Yes. It is possible to change the keyboard without flashing. Find one you like and download it.
For example: THIS keyboard or THIS one or THIS one... well you get the idea.
There really isnt a single WinMo keyboard out there that has the same layout as Android or iPhones keyboards.
Quite a shame since if you could just remove the useless arrow keys and space the keys a little more with the space saved by getting rid of the useless arrow keys then the keyboard could be perfect =/

I use the arrow keys everyday. I don't find the useless at all...

RESCO Keyboard Pro (I had it allready from earlier PDA) Has no arrows (on the default screen)
One can swype left/right for the different screens.
Immediate access to calculator, and the arrows, copy, paste, delete and backspace are just one flick away....
Well worth the monye IMO.
Also rotates to landscape....

Yeah I tried RESCO but the landscape version of it is not really qwerty style at all
Like on any keyboard the letters should funnel diagonal like this:
------------>QWERTYUIOP
-------------->ASDFGHJK
---------------->XCVBN
RESCO doesn't seem to do this its more like:
QWERTYUIO
ASDFGHJKL;'
ZXCVBNM,./
Every letter is exactly underneath each other instead of diagonal which throws off typing since no one has ever typed on a keyboard that style.
I need a keyboard in landscape to look exactly like this:
Speaking of which does anyone know which keyboard this is??? It looks absolutely perfect!
The indented layout has been designed for 10 finger typing
I do not believe you can do it on the HD2....
The swype keyboard is probably more to your liking.....
BTW: Where did you find that screendump?
Perhaps you could ask that user....

Argh!
Found out its an old skin of the RESCO keyboard called iSkin... but its back from 2008 and I cant find anything that it would re-size correctly for the Hd2
I'll try swype again though due to the indented keys based off your suggestion and figure out what it was that I didn't like the first time or if it has been fixed (can't remember since its 4am at the moment =P)
Edit: I hate swyping since its bad for inputting url's... but I tried it anyways just as a way to type regularly since i like the layout of the keyboard BUT no sound clicks when I press keys + no key press popup showing me I pressed the right one while I am typing = No good
Need a real iPhone style keyboard with indented keys in landscape.
Android can do it, why cant WM?

LYB - OS Android / halo keyboard

Hi all,
I have an issue with the "right click" on the halo keyboard. Before I have chatted with fb support from Lenovo.
Their solutions were: 1) try with the rectangles on the side from the touch pad on halo keyboard (picture). My answer: I don't have rectangles, just 5 dots (picture)
2) You see the five dots below the space bar? the dots in the middle is for you to scroll up and down, left and right. You will start movie from the middle then move towards where you want to scroll. The two dots on the left and right are for the click. Try it. My answer: I'am trying to correct a word wich was misspelled using the option "right click" on it. But following these steps, seems like doesn't work
Now you know what I have tried. Is there an option a I didn't see or try it before? any hotkey? or crtl+? lol
Thank you!
Last update from Lenovo:
Sorry about that. Windows does have the left and the right click, however the android version does have the scroll only. You could try holding the option from the screen then see if you will get options popped up.
My answer: **** I would like to ask to someone from the IT (I don't know if this is the way to do it).
It is very important when you write or efit not to switch from one to another.
Is like having a mouse and the touch pad, to do certains things you have to switch from one to another.
It is ok, there is solution for the issue. But it is not correct, there is a correct way on windows, but need to be also on this kind of device too.
Please if its not here to elevate this complaint/ask, tell me where to.
Thank you
Sorry for your lost time reading this, but might help someone else with this issue
