Class 4 vs Class 6? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Accessories

So I'm looking for a cheap microsd card to get. I got my 8gb Class 6 microsd for the g1 for 20 bucks but it's no longer in stock, so i'm looking for others.
So now my question is, what do you guys think is good for the Rhodium? I know the classes pretty much differ in speed
Class 2: 2 MByte/s - 13x
Class 4: 4 MByte/s - 26x
Class 6: 6 MByte/s - 40x
Class 4 doesnt seem as much of downgrade and i could have that 8gb for 20 bucks.
What do you guys think?

i have a class 6 microsd now...
i still am using a class 4 in my g1, and it runs smooth. The nice thing about the winmo and Manilla interface, is that it installs fine on the internal memory of the device. No need for swap, ext2/3/4/ or apps2sd. it all runs really well, if you can just get a class 4, get that one. but if you want/need a new class 6, may as well get that. The way i weighed it out was that if i ever needed to switch my G1 to a class 6, i had it, if not, my class 6 stays with my TP2.
btw, i picked up my microsd 8gig at a local frys for 22 bucks.

Picked up a PNY 8gb micro for 21 and some change after tax at J&R

Best Deal
I saw a 16 gig for a nice price. Class 2. Here===>http://www.jr.com/daneelec/pe/DNL_DA2IN116GR/
I had a class 4 8 gig and dont notice much difference.
Bestt is it can be picked up in store!

In my opinion the difference isn't that noticeable between class 4 and class 6, but you should search deeper because in Romania I bought an 8gb class 6 Kingmax microsd for about 26$, so if the difference is just few bucjs you could buy class 6..
Here an example http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-Cla...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1261596150&sr=1-1

The class number only refers to WRITE speed, ie it transfers faster from your computer to mobile. The read speed is the same for all classes.

Yea, you don't really need to worry about the class unless you want a really fast transfer from your computer to store stuff on your card... Your phone won't notice different classes. I would get a class 2, but get a larger card for the smartest deal.
Oh, and I would avoid Transcend branded microsd cards. Just get a different brand.

I mean...are there any "class 6" card?
It's better a Sandisk or a Kingston?

Running fine with sandisk 16gb class 2.
Class 2 is enough for usb and internal memory from tpII
don't waste money in this case. You don't notice any difference at all.
I have a SanDisk 16gb class 4. This one is good enough. The compromise between speed and money

That appears to be a class 2 not a class 6, may be acceptable to many, but in the context of this thread it's not comparing "apples with apples". Having said that it's still a good price for a 16GB card.
Gordon
Class 2 is okay - The price is perfect
Class 4 is good - The price is good
Class 6 is perfect! - The price is horrible
--> Class 4 is the best tradeoff!
Just got a transcend class 6 16gb microsd for rp 640,000... thats approx equivalent to USD60. I can get a cheaper brand VGen for approx USD 50.. but then, for an extra USD10, you get a more reliable storage card with lifetime warranty....
at the end of the day, the reliability of the data being stored is the most important thing to consider... if the price doesnt differ much, then ALWAYS go for better quality one... this would be my rule of thumb when purchasing things usually... things have different prices for a reason, and usually its the quality...
as with speed, i dont think it matters a lot... a good indication is if you can watch movie with a class 2, then data transfer rate is good enough...
I went to a well known IT mall in Singapore today to get a micro SD card for my Rhodium.
Class 4 16 gb micro SD retails for 73 Singapore Dollars versus 26 singapore dollars for a 8gb micro SD Class 4. (Kingston)
I opted for a simple 8gb and wait for the prices to come down slowly. I don't think I will be using lots of space for making videos and photos. And if you want to view any videos, convert them to the screen resolution helps.
Just got a Transcend 16gb Micro SDHC Class 6 off a local store here.. to me the price at $123 is still ok.. oh well.. the price I pay for an early adopter... I can very much remember the time I pay $100+ for a 512mb full sized SD.. haha..

To some like me, I just want a bigger capacity and speed.. I already had the 8gb Micro SDHC class 6 like a year a ago. May be cheap now but I never regret get it then.. besides, I fill up these card pretty quick and they are not about Videos nor Audio files. Audio/Video I do it on a dedicated player.
I already fill up till I left 4gb on my Transcend 16gb Micros SDHC I got yesterday.

Where I bought my 8Gb Class 6 for £9.89
Hi for info I recently bought my TP2 memory card for £9.89 at
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/8GB-CLASS-6-M...AsAccessoriesQ5fMemoryCardsQQsalenotsupported
Works a treat and noticably faster than my 4Gb class 4! It works perfectly with my TP2.
As a note my 4Gb class 4 drops off from the device occasionally, the 8Gb never!
Using the Class 4 card the TP2 struggles to play a 640 x 272 131kbps Video and 131kbps Audio 25fps 700Mb DIVX AVI movie, No problem with class 6 using TCPMP on the device.

hi!
is there any difference between 16GB class 2 Sandisk and 16GB class 2 Kingston?
I own a class 4 Sandisk 8GB and a class 4 Kingston 4GB and I don't notice much difference!
but I can buy a class 2 Kingston 16GB for about $52 and I was considering it (but it's a class 2...) or I can buy a class 4 Sandisk 16GB for about $75...
will I notice the difference (all I do is sometimes transfer mp3 or a movie to the card through Active Sync)... I don't use it as a Pen Drive or so...
I really need a new card since my 8GB is almost full!!! and I have to carry more than one!
BE AWARE
Don't buy transcend 16GB: they don't suppor power resume after sleep mode.
Example:
Create a windows media player music catalog placed on storage card
and activate random player.
Connect your htc headset and start listening music.
As soon as your device will go into standy/sleep mode with player running
on the next song the music will stop as your sdCard will disappear from system.
Modifying PnpUnloadDelay (and similar) doesnt help nor disabling sd-power-safe.
Tried 4 trasdendend with 3 different pro2: the same problem.
Bought a sandisk and resolved
So be aware!
Does the same count for Transcend 8GB Class 6 MicroSD's?
I can get one for 23 euros. The SanDisk costs 2 euros more for 8GB but Class 4.
Is 8GB enough for me anyways: navigation program, some photos, programs and videos. Because the SD's are getting bigger and bigger; I imagine that programs are too? Maybe 16GB would be a better investment then, or should I not seeing the use I make of it?
Got my TPII today so I am figuring it all out Thanks.
i want to buy a class 6 card in the uk, sems theres no 16gig here would settle for 2 X 8 gigs to hot swap one with movies on one with the rest of my stuff
any suggestions for good quality class 6 8 gigs in the uk

What is the best micro Sd for X10?

I want to know what class of micro Sd I will buy for my X10mini.
There are may advantages using a class 6 or class 10 micro sd for video?
Can anyone tell me what is the transfer rate supported by this smartphone?
I bought a cheap class 2 16gb card, and haven't had any problems with it - music and video plays fine.
Remember the class rating of a card is the minimum data rate, rather than the maximum - mine manages 6mb/s transfer rates.
X10 mini from Rogers
a 16gb micro sd card came with my X10, i'll receive my x10 mini from Rogers in few days, i wonder there's any micro sd card come with it?
Unless you're doing HD video, a class 2 card is fine. I bought an 8gb class 4 card for around $29 from a computer store. Don't go to somewhere like officeworks as you'll pay $35 for a class 2 card.

Ok, so if I find a class 4 at a good price well, otherwise a class 2 works well.
But what is the max. speed of data transfer (to SD supported) by the X10?
i got a 16gb on ebay class 3 or 4 for about £15 ( Around double in dollers) works just FINE
Finally I have the solution to the problem
Many thanks to everyone for the answers, and I can also give a contribution (to me and others ) because today a technical staff of Sonyericsson wrote me that the X10 supports a micro sd maximum class 4, every other class does not produce benefits in terms of speed, are supported but will not be used at their maximum speed.

Be careful with e-bay as chinese sellers sell hacked 8 and 16GB cards, which in reality are 1 gb card which report themselves as 8 or 16 (and are marked 8 or 16).
I have bought a Kingmax 8GB class10 on ebay and it's very very good !
My x10 mini pro came with a 2gb card, doesnt say wich class I assume its class 1 or 2 as most stock ones are, from what Ive heard android phones dont take advantage of anything above class 4 from the OS at least, but you can speed up music and file transfer by getting a class 10 and using ur pc card reader to fill it up faster =) wont give you any better performance for phone tho..
I have a extra Sandisk MicroSDHC (8 GB) card. Works fine.
Sold my standard 2gb one.
i have kingston sd class 4gb and i buy it for 9 EUR from store and is working normal
I've bought Kingston 4GB MicroSD and it wasn't working. Maybe it should be useful to make a thread of compatible SD's.

Be interesting to learn the maximum throughput. Meaning sequential may be capped at 4 MB/s, wonder how fast it performs doing random R/W.
Mike
Anyone tried PATRIOT 16GB Micro SDHC 2v1 Class 4?
i heared that there are some problems with sd cards class 4 on mini pro, but class 4 and 6 works perfect
Im using Kingmax 8GB class 4 card. working just fine..
I just bought a 16GB PNY Class 10 card from here: PNY 16GB
Cheap at £17.99 and seems to work really well. SD Tools says it is writing at 9.3MB/s. My previous Transend 8GB Class 6 wrote at 6.5MB/s. Seems quicker when using camera: ready to take next shot sooner
My new card!
I just got a Transcend 16GB Class 2 for around $25! Class 2 doesnt make that a difference. I have set 3072 kb as the card buffer in MIniCM6
I had problems with a Kingston 16gb sd. Replaced it with a Sandisk 16gb, works fine now.

[Q] New MicroSd HC Card

Hello,
I want a new MicroSd HC Card for my Hero.
After doing some research on the internet, I am confused...
Some people say, that it is senseless to buy an expensive class 6 or 8 card for the phone, because it can not handle the extra speed a card with a higher class has.
Currently I own a Toshiba Class 6 8gb Card,
but this one has not enough space.
I thought about buying 16 or 32gb.
Do you have any recommends for me?
I have a class 4 16GB SDHC card for my Hero (it's a sandisk one for a reputable retailer, NOT eBay). when I perform speed tests on it, it says it is a class 2, which is the exact same class as the 8GB SD card it replaced.
Some class 4's can perform better than a class 6, it seems to be luck of the draw. Apparently the CLASS refers to the read speed I believe, Class 2 minimum 2MB/s. I've probably got that totally a*se about face...
I am told the hero can handle 32gb cards, only reason I bought a 16GB was because the Hero was replacing a 16GB iPhone 3GS. I've had no problems whatsoever with it. Another user (on the forum) has loads of issues with lag from his 16GB SDHC card. No reason whatsoever. Just seems to be hit and miss.
I WOULDN'T BUY A SD CARD FROM eBAY THOUGH!!!
I got a 16gb sdhc class 6 from adata - have been using it nearly from day one, can't say I noticed a change in performance from the 2gb card that came with the Hero.

[Q] Question about Wintec Class 10 MicroSD card

Hi. I read that a few of you have bought wintec micro sd cards from newegg.com. I was wondering if you had any problems with this card. The reviews on newegg seem mixed. I particularly want to buy the 16 gb class 10 microsdhc. Does this card work in the transformer? Any help would be great. I want to spend my money right the first time and not waste any on unreliable cards. Thanks

Not sure about the Transformer (yet... still waiting for mine. Hopefully tomorrow), but I bought one for my Motorola Atrix. After formatting it in the Atrix, it worked for a little while, then my Atrix said the card was unrecognizable. I had similar issues when I put it in my Nexus One as well. Using it in the SD adapter with my PC or camera doesn't seem to have the same problems.
I find that a class 4 card is good enough for most things. Heck, I use a class 2 card on my Archos 5 Internet Tablet to hold movies, and I have never seen it stutter. I just bought a class 4 card in anticipation of my Transformer.
If you want a faster card, get one from a reliable manufacturer. But I really don't think you'll need it.
I've been using the 32GB Wintec class 10 in my EVO for months with zero issues. It's fast too...makes a very noticeable difference when viewing pictures in the gallery. I was a little nervous after hearing other people's reviews, but it's been great for me. I make sure to backup fairly regularly though, just in case.
My 1st wintec 16gb class 10 would constantly get corupted in my epic and wouldn't be recognized in my laptop at that point. I formatted it numerous asy and the results were always the same. Rma'd it and just got the replacement today. Will load some things on and give it a shot with files I won't care about losing if it goes down.

I couldn't wait for a decent 16GB Class 10 microSDHC card to get back in stock, so I ordered two of these Wintec cards from Newegg yesterday. I know there's a chance they will crap out soon, but I thought I'd take the chance since I'm impatient. I wish the A-Data ones would come in stock sooner.
Sad part about the Adata ones is they're usually a class or two slower than their rating. So their class 10 is probably about a class 6 where Sandisk ones usually outperform their class. I have a class 2 32gb Sandisk in my Samsung Epic and have had no complaints about speed or reliability.
Im using one right now in a stock unrooted TF. But when I tried to root it , it always corrupts that card!
I bought two Wintec 16GB Class 10 MicroSDHC cards and they BOTH didn't work. I couldn't format them and I had problems recognizing them on the TF and computer. I'd stay away from them.
Wintec class 10 16gb microsd works fine with my TF.
Faster than my other class 4.

Buying a MicroSDHC card
Class has to do with the speed of data transfer to your “microsdhc card”.
You may want to be careful of that particular memory card (Wintec Class 10 MicroSDHC) on Newegg, Located at ...... Alot of very bad reviews for this item. It has a very high failure rate. 1/3 of the cards fail, become nonfunctional after a very short time, loose data, lock up, etc.
For a couple dollars more you may want to get SanDisk or Kingston memory. I have been using their memory products for many years. Both have an excellent rating and warranty. I also find it hard to believe that you can get a real, reliable and functional Class 10 memory at that price. Usually a Class 10 memory retail about $175.00 $190.00 but can be bought for $ 75.00 to $90.00 dollars.
People who usually use Class 10 are photographers, for speed of image transfer to memory and less time waiting between shots, and heavy duty graphic users that have a lot of transfers to do with large files.
For example for a real Class 10 memory:
NewEgg:..... $89.00
Amazon:..... Kingston-MicroSD-Adapter-SDC10-16GB $82.00
Example for Class 2 memory:
SanDisk 16 GB microSDHC Flash Memory Card $23.85
Example for Class 4 memory:
Kingston 16 GB Class 4 MicroSD Flash Card with SD Adapter $32.84
Class 2 or 4 will do just fine for your Asus Transformer.
Just go with Sandisk. Even Class 2/4 Sandisk cards will be fast enough. Cheaper brands just stick a class 6/10 on their cards and buyers will eat them up. But real-world performances will show you that they're definitely not in the same class as Sandisk cards.

[Q] Micro SD Card Size or Speed?

Hey what do you guys think? I can get a either a 16GB Class 10, or a 32GB class 4 for the same price. Does a class 10 really make much difference on a phone? If this was for my DSLR Camera it'd be different. So just curious what everyone's thoughts are. Thanks In Advance!
P.S. The Price is $60. However I work at Best Buy and know i get a discount im just not sure what it is yet...
I was wondering the same thing?
I would think the class 4 32gb would be fine with the Evo 3D, but i could be wrong
What brands? Not all brands are the same.
I just purchased a Sandisk 32GB class 4. I mainly use my storage for music/pics.
I use a Sandisk 32gb class 2 I believe, it may be a class 4. Used it in my Evo4G and now my 3D. I run most of my apps and games off of it, never had an issue. Never any lag, just as fast as a class 6 I used by some off brand. Sandisk is known for having speeds faster then what they are rated, alot of no-name brands are just the opposite though.

I just went through this same thing.... The card that came with the phone was class 4. I downloaded SD Tools from the market and did a speed test. My goal was to ensure that whatever card I got had at least the same read/write speeds as the stock card.
Out of 3 tests on the stock class 4 card the highest results were 7.0MB/s write and 16.9MB/s read.
I went to Frys and bought a 16GB class 4 card (I think it is WINTEC, but will double check) for $19.99. Figured I could return it if the speeds weren't up to par.
Out of 3 tests with this class 4 card, all came back with 11.0MB/s write and 19.2MB/s read.
I decided to go with 16GB first to see if I would really fill it up. Sure, I would love 32GB of storage but when do I really need ALL my music on my phone at one time and how many movies do I really need on hand? I figure I will still use my PC as the ultimate storage device and then sync down about 4GB of music and maybe 3-4 movies at a time... still leaving room for some camera pics. If I find I am running out of space I will then upgrade to a 32GB card.
Hope this helps!
I ordered the Lexar 32GB class 10 microSDHC from tigerdirect today - $55 (approx $6 for shipping *and* tax) today. It retails around $90 at amazon
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=186367&CatId=7071
Only problem is that it is expected to ship in late August... hope they don't cancel it by then
I'm using sandisk 16g class 2 card that come with my Droid X. I do get lag sometimes playing 1080p vids, although rare.. If I don't skip around a lot then no problems at all. I don't consider it a nuisance enough to throw away any class 2 cards but enough to make class 4 my new min requirement.
