System Apps cant read SDCARD!? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
i rolled back via nandroid backup, now my Music, Gallery, .. apps cant find the concerning files on my sdcard.
I can view/play the files via IO Filemanager.
What can i do?
Thank you!
//m0jo.

all i can think of is trying the nandbackup again, making sure the files are actually on the sd card, and just pulling the sd card out and then putting it back in, and maybe soft reset... like turn off, pull battery for about 10 sec, then try again

there is an app called "sdrescan" on the market, might be worth a try.

[Help] Eris no longer able to install apps

I droped my phone (I know :/ ) and my phone was no longer able to open apps on the sd card so I wiped and reflashed Tazz v.22 but it can't install any apps from the market or sd, just hangs on install. File manager and music along with recovery can read the SD card but the OS can't dismount it, it only force closes. This is not the first time this has happened but the only time it has had a negative effect. The back cover and battery flew across the room any ideas on what has happened or how to fix this? Everything (processor, touch screen, WiFi/3G, ect) all work :3
Try reformatting the SD card from Amon RA recovery and see if that helps. You have to use the Partition option to do so, just choose 0MB for everything unless you know you want additional partions (for Apps2SD and/or Swap). Make sure and copy anything you want to save from the SD card (if it's recoverable) first, and put it back on after reformatting if you need it back on there.
After putting whatever ROM(s) you want to reflash on your SD card, make sure and check the MD5 hash to see if it matches the MD5 hash reported by the ROM dev (ask them in their thread what it should be if they don't post it in the first post).
Thanks, I'm partitioning now and ill post how it goes
if that process doesnt work, you might try another sd card if you have one handy, just to see if its the reader or what.... you can alway take advatage of your warranty and tell em your sd wont mount, if nothing else works....
Unfortunately it didn't work. I am not sure why my SD would work for everything (Apps, and Recovery) but not the main OS and what that has to do with my phones ability to install apps to any location. I have tested: GPS, WiFi, 3G, Touch Screen, SD mounting to comp., and LEDs and they all work; This is strange. I am not sure what is "wrong", is there a way to check to see if the internal memory, or a special important place that I don't know of, is damaged or corrupted?

That's a good idea; my only problem is that the water sticker just under the cover has been activated by my hand sweat back in days when I tried for hours on end to use Captainkrtek's root method. But the sticker on the battery is not activated so hmmm
Edit: I am googling my problem and will try some of the ideas out there and let everyone know how it goes
i think youd be okay... mine fell in a pool and they still accepted it for a broken sd reader over 8 months ago ...
Super woot: I fixed it; I had to delete my .android-secure folder. I still need to test other stuff but I can now istall apps for the SD card

hello, i am really really scared about what happened to my phone, i dont know when it happened or how it happened.... i just restarted it, and the apps on my desktop, go green, and i cant click on them, i knew they were on sd card, but the dont', then show any more, i tried to put my backup rom in again after wiping everything, but same problem, i cant even install apps from market, when i click on "free" then the "ok" button doesnt press, and i cant install apps from sd card either. i tried to take out the sd card and putting it back in but nothing. i can go to my sd card thru astro, etc, and browse and everything, just cant install apps. i cant even use the UPDATE SERVICE on the computer, and my computer doesnt detect usb, same with my phone. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME, IM SOO SCARED. i am using 2.2.1, the gingerbread theme.
thanks.
Use titanium backup, and go to backup/restore look for the market and try to wipe its data.
If the problem persists, I'd suggest reflashing with seus.

Got this problem before, try moving an application from SDCard back to Phone Memory, it works for me
i cant move apps, they keep saying "moving": forever, but never move,
and i dont have titanium back up, therefore i cant install it, the only way that might work, is the custom.zip, with apps in it.
thats what ive been thinking of so far, but how can i make that .zip folder?
nvm, i got the titaniumbackup, using xrecovery, there was a .zip, thank god, but now what...
and when i go in "partition tools", my cashe is always mounted, even if i unmount, it gets mounted.

[Q] Help Please!!!

I posted this question in the general forum but now I am posting it here because I think this is probably the more appropriate forum. So I am a noob and I may not know enough to be rooted, but I love the custom ROM's they work so much better than stock. Anyway, I started using the new Theory of Ginger Candy ROM and all was going well, until I downloaded the power options download that lets you restart into recovery from the power options. I downloaded it and then rebooted into recovery using ROM manager then I installed the .zip file for the advanced power options. Then, I rebooted and it freezes up at the lightning bolt. I let it sit on there for 20 min thinking maybe it was just going to take a long time then I did a battery pull and rebooted and got stuck again at the lightning bolt. Next I tried to pull the battery and then reboot into recovery by holding the volume down key and power key at the same time. This reboots into bootloader and automatically runs bootloader and then it asks if I want to update. How can I stop it from running bootloader automatically and then be able to scroll down into recovery? Or do I just flash the Radio again and will that take me back to a stock ROM that is with the radio, and then I can restore my backup I made before installing this advance power option .zip. Thanks for your help guys!

Uh... Yep! I think that we've found the problem! Ha!
If you don't have a SD card reader there is a trick over in the General forum for how to get around that!
Thanks for you help everyone. I now know to delete the PGOIMG file from my sd card promptly after flashing a radio. I couldn't find the way around not having an sd card reader but I did find a way around it. I did make a back-up but I couldn't log into CWM recovery with the PGOIMG file on my SD card, and I didn't have a microsd card reader or anyway to plug the sd card into my computer to get the file off, so I found a tricky little way to do it. I pulled the SD card just barley out and held the battery in at an angle so that it didn't push the sd card back in. Then with the sd card out I was able to get into recovery. Then came the tricky part of getting the sd card back in without loosing a conection with the battery. I ended up using a bent paper clip to push the sd card into place. After a few attempts I was able to get the sd card in place and the battery back in place while staying in cwm. The next problem was that it sitll wouldn't recognize my sd card. I went into mounts and tried to unmount and remount the sd card with no luck, but then I noticed in the advanced options there is the option to reboot recovery. This allowed me to reboot back into recovery and then it saw my sd card. So after all that I was able to restore my back-up version of B1.7. I now promptly remove the PGOIMG file after flashing a radio.

Nandroid backup

Hy guys, there is something I dont understand about nandroid. I flashed my rom, kernel, downloaded apps, change setting, homescreen etc. and now i would like to back it up exactly as it is. I read that nandroid is best for that but it doesnt backup sd card? whats up with that. I look at my sd card with root explorer and there are many folder and files that were made by apps when they were insteled on the phone.Does it backup that also? Also i have many apps, apps2sd, will it make backup of them also?
It won't back up your entire phone onto your phone. It would get really big with all the music, videos, etc, that a person might have. If you have your external card mounted then you can attach via a USB cable to your computer then either with adb or with a file manager copy all of /mnt/sdcard youlle get the important things that nandroid does not. The exception I can think of is that it doesn't seem to back up your modem firmware, so if your partial to a particular one then just have it as a flashable file.
Ok, thanks, so it doesnt backup internal sd card because someone told me yesterday that it does? If i copy the entire sd card to PC and latter copy it back to mobile like that will it work. First i recover nandroid backup, than i format internal sd card and than copy all the files back to sd card.
A Nandroid backup will copy a lot, but it can't copy everything or there wouldn't be room on the device for it to be practical. It is quite supprising how much it will keep; it just isn't a complete backup solution is all.
Addressing your question though, as for copying the entire sd card, you really only need to copy the folder /mnt/sdcard or /sdcard ; the latter is a symlink to /mnt/sdcard
If you try to copy your entire sdcard then it is possible to end up with data from partitions that will take forever to copy and that you really don't want, for example /proc on the phone is just kernel information that doesn't even exist when the phone is turned off. To keep things simple, everything is part of the ROM and kernel except for /mnt/sdcard and in the case of and external sd card, /mnt/sdcard/external_sd but the latter (/mnt/sdcard/external_sd) will be copied along with the first one provided it is mounted when you do it.
The only other exception to what needs to be backed up is a partition called /efs and there are various tutorials with various methods about how to do that. I would follow one of them rather than just copying the data out as its a partition that holds unique information about the phone that it can't function with if it gets messed up. This is more immediately important and I think there's quite simply some apps that will do it for you if you look at the sticky threads here. The files will be on your phone though so you'lle want to pull them off on to your computer for sure.
As for your friend's advice, though, you won't typically ever need more than a Nandroid backup unless something happens to that other data, for example if there's filesystem corruption. If you do a restore of your ROM then it still retains all your music and photo goodies or whatever, app settings get wiped though where they are retained with Nandroid. The only thing that I'd worry about is if the impending update to Ice Cream Sandwhich somehow wipes suff, or if you play around at the command line a lot make a mistake unintentionally. If it weren't for the updates and beta ICS releases we're seeing then I'd simply be telling you not to worry about it, but to back things up and be done with it.
By the way, doesn't Kies back things up? I don't have it so I don't remember but it seems like that's how I initially got things onto it and that it has a sync option. Perhaps this is enough?....

Man just do the backup and don't worry about the sd card files/folders. The reason it doesn't back them up is because they stay there anyway. Eg, if you uninstall an app, a folder that was created by it on your sd card is still there. Flashing firmware, including wipe versions doesn't touch the 11.5gb internal storage or external storage.
BTW, most of my internal sd card is used up and 25gb is used up on my external card. If the backup was to include those a 64gb memory card wouldn't be enough.
Between the S1 and S2 I've backed up and restored over 100 times, including after fully wiping the phone (but not formatting sd cards) and the phone always looks and functions exactly as before, including apps.
So, only copy memory card files to PC if you intend to format the internal / external cards or if you are worried you might lose stuff if the memories become corrupted.

Thanks guys for you help. I dont use Kies also so i dont know and, yes, i format sd card before flashing every rom so i would probably format it also before making restore of nandroid backup. Also when i delete some app a delete a folder created by it on sd card. OK, than i will make a nandroid backup and copy mnt/sdcard on PC so if it ever gets corupted i can restore everything. As for efs folder, Neak kerenl made a backup of that automatic so i just made a copy of that on PC.
Every so often I go though the folders on the sd cards and clean them up a little but I have never formatted the sd cards. I don't really think you should do it with every flash.

Going from CM9 to General channel easy?

So my spring board doesnt like CM9, it constantly reboots, and the no camera preview combined with no usb makes so it cant be a daily driver. To put it back to a stockish rom, can i just do the standard pop the update in the dload folder on the sd card? I couldnt use recovery to flash kernels on general roms...
You need to just to restore backup if you have made it before flashing.
Or you need to flash stock recovery back, then put dload folder with official rom and turn on device.
About cm9: when you have reboots? Because i have no reboots now
The unit get hung alot, then reboots. If i push menu keys too fast is reboots. If i switch apps too fast it reboots. If i surf the gallery too fast it reboots.
One thing i noticed is some programs dont like the 3 stage sd card mount. internal storage is considered sd, sd card is considered sd2, and external storage is considered sd3. I lost my titanium backup because the factory reset wiped sd, which is where titanium decided to put the backup. Im glade that the data in the apps way being correctly stored on sd2, or i would have lost alot of data.
