Good luck as whn replacing the digitizer you will most likley break the LCD.

Where I work we have recently begun replacing digitisers on a number of HTC models, the Blackstone has a good success rate on average, we break the lcd in a few cases, the blackstone and diamond are the most difficult to replace sucessfully, we have found that carefully heating the digitiser helps to soften the double-sided adhesive tape used to stick the digitiser to the frame, and carefully using a thin blade, such as a scalpel or razor blade to separate them.
However it is a difficult process, and the risk of damage is quite high without specialist jigs and tools.
Good luck, and take it slowly and carefully.

...I insist
My opinion (i have replaced the screen successfully and I am familiar with transfer adhesives): if you are not a professional, don't replace the digitzer only but get a pre-assembled LCD+digitizer. it looks more expensive at the beginning, but at the end you'll save money AND time...

Hi. i just make this mistake, first i buy only digitaizer, i start change i broke the lcd, after i order the lcd only. i start fix together, everything ok, buth the digitaizer dont working. i conect everythink, 4 times i check and nothing, wath is the problem. i read manuals wath movies, and i dint find answer for my problem.
Please help.

yeh after getting the lcd and digi away from frame i made the mistake of peeling the digi off and finding out its got double sided sticky tape which will never look the same unless new sticky is aplied which i dont think we can do, so i bit the bullet and ordereed a pre asemmbled lcd and digi for £54

Any ideas how to glue preassembled lcd+digi to new housing? No sticky tape there.. maybe a link where can i buy such a thin tape.. cant find it in local stores

Advice needed - Dismantling the Blackstone

Hello guys,
I need advice on whether I should dismantle my Blackstone, or should I just leave it to the pro? I want to change the housing as the current one's badly damaged but I dont want to pay big bucks for that.
As for myself, I have fair knowledge on these stuffs, as I have dismantled my previous HTC phones, ipods etc etc. However, the last time I tried to change the antenna cover of my Blackstone, I felt that it was rather difficult compared to the previous phones/devices I did. I ended up breaking the connecting latches on the old antenna cover. And I did follow the HTC Service Guide, which I think is not sufficient.
I couldn't find any video tutorials on dismantling the Blackstone. Could someone point me in the right direction please? Thanks a million
I just had to replace a damaged digitizer. i downloaded the service manual and it did help......a little! Basically, the main dissasembly was pretty straight forward, but the digitizer replacement was a nightmare!!! The LCD, Digitizer and front housing are basically fused together with an adhesive tape. Trying to remove the LCD from the digitizer was futile (broke the LCD). I had to basically replace the LCD and the Digitizer to make it all work again. The main problem with the new hardware is that you cannot get the stock replacement adhesive/tape so i had to use stuff from around the house.....i hope the diplay doesn't fall out of my phone. Anyway, got it eventualy working. Definately doable....but be careful not to touch the digitizer or LCD with your fingers.....whooops! Anyway, good luck.

Hmm. Or maybe the problem was only me. I find it pretty hard to dig out the antenna cover from its latches. Maybe I was digging on the wrong spot. And thats why I was reluctant to continue further. Mind sharing how you "digged" the antenna cover?
Yeah, be careful with separating the LCD from the digitizer. I recently replaced the digitizer on mine. I agree with the antenna cover, I had some troubles with mine.
I used a old sim card to help pry the antennae cover off. Because my digitizer was cracked i was able to peel it off the lcd without the the lcd. Managed to use the old adhesive tape aswell.
Check out this thread - it might help you! There you will also find a link to a video some other user made, showing how the HD can be disassembled! But - as others already have said: I wouldnt recommend disassembling the screen unit! I too managed to destroy my LCD doing so! forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462102
Thanks alot guys. Appreciate it.

Replacing front display (digitizer?)

Hi there!
I didn't put a screen protector on my TD2 -and over time it has become more scratched than expected. I'd like to replace the front display -I guess that is the one called the digitizer, or?
http://cgi.ebay.com/Touch-Screen-Di...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item4837633bd0
What are the chances for getting an original HTC at ebay?
Did anybody do this replacement with success?
Cheers
No one?
check this out too!!!
more expensive and not a word about oem product!!!
So... oem digitizer with just 19$ .... hmmmm! don't know!!!!
Perhaps this guide can help you.
Hopefully it's not permanently attached to the LCD like the ATT Fuze is. I took my Fuze apart and destroyed the LCD while trying to install a new digitizer. Apparently they use some sort of extremely strong glue between the digitizer and LCD...
Hopefully not.. But I think it's only glued to the frame.. I don't really know what kind of glue to use for the new one though...

Sorry to tell you all that the Digitizer is permanently attached with LCD. I know this because I was drop my D2 and went to service center. They change to front cover (case) which was broken when droped. when I get it back they give me back my old front cover and I notice that the digitizer is stick with over part.....
When I ask the service's counter. They told me that they have to change the new digitizer because it come with whole part.. not saparated.
Sorry for my english....
Hi Guide144, you say that when you got the digitizer back it sticked with the 'over part'. To my ears that sounds like the FRAME and not the LCD? Are you sure that it's also attached to the LCD?

Sorry for lag of my understanding, Yes the digitizer is stick with front frame, not a LCD. In my case, I ask the service to change my front cover because it broke and they change the front cover + digitizer.... because it stick together.
Hope this would clear all out.
Hi guys,
i replaced today the broken digitizer of my topaz.
Got one for $60 from ebay, with a screen (i wasn't sure if it was a screen problem or digitizer so i got both.)
you need to unstick the old one from the housing and attach the new one. i didn't use extra glue/stick , since the old one was left on the casing.
cheers
Thanks mistral82cy! Thanks for sharing -now I feel a little more up to going ahead with the operation
Hi! Could you please tell me how much the service center charged you to get the new cover and digitizer installed?
I've to change mine, as well!
Thanks a lot
I would suggest finding the parts list for the phone and finding out exactly what digitizer is needed then buy one online from somewhere such as e-bay. I did this with my G1 replaced it myself and it worked wonderfully. Research before you buy otherwise you might end up buying the wrong one or a clone which doesnt work as well
I dun it myself, buying one digitizer from ebay, getting the old one out was a little tricky , but appart from that it was easy(and i had to do it again, as i dit not secure it properly and there was dust comming underneath the screen from the sides. Any questions you could ask, but it is pretty straight forward.
pistonripper changed his housing, so he would have also replaced his digitizer, so you might want to check with him

replace digitizer on your own!
Hello everyone!
My digitizer broke last week, because i droped my Diamond!
But don't worry I am a rookie in technical things and I managed it to replace my digitizer on my own.
Don't waste money on repair charge from repairshops! Ok... you loose your garantie but the Cellphone is allready old. The new HD2 is already available!
Just buy the digitizerscreen at ebay... i've paid 60 € and then use this manual:

Now it works like before.

It's a bit hard to see on the photos but if its new can you not return it? if not then you need to look closely between the digitizer and the screen and see if the damage is just the top layer or the screen, if it is the top layer then just replace your digitizer!

[Problem] Screen and Digitalizer

Hello Guys,
i have a problem, i had already replaced the LCD-Screen because the old was broken.
But now i got a new problem... if i place the new screen on the digitalizer i got a glimer on the display. I don't now why. But i already discoverd that this effect only appearce if the LCD-Screen is on the digitalizer..
So what is the exactly reason and how can i fix this problem? Is the digitalizer cracked?
Here are 3 Pictures, one is without the digitalizer.
Thank You,
PS: Sorry for my bad english
did you try to fit digitizer in or just holding it upon the lcd?
what would happen if you rotate it 90degs?
are you sure there is no protection foil still on the lcd???
-
behind and on the lcd, there are reflection foils, bluring, light redirecting, polarizating. maybe 6 of them together. some are glued on screen, some are just below it. obviously there is something in digitizer as well, and those in your replaced lcd are not compatible with digitizer.
can you ask for return of the lcd and get another one?
the other option would be getting replacement of digitizer from the same shop.
or third, this effect doesn't look like it's from polarizator. polarizator is glued but those others are not. if it will not change if you rotate it, like with polarizator effect, means it's not polarizator and you can replace those other foils from below lcd. putting ones from your broken screen to the new one. It's quite difficult, but could be done.
okay.. if i rotate the digitalizer the effect changes..
in nearly 90 degree the effect is better than normal.. but not really good..
so is there a magnetism issue??
or whats the reason for this effect?..
could the digitalizer broken? but it's still working..
the display brokes because of violence..
could the digitalizer although broken??
no the digitizer is fine.
the replacement you get was not oem. means was not from the same factory.
someone working in there made some pictures or paintings of the lcd and showed it to his friend who owns a similar factory. He then made this lcd and sold it to you. As he didn't know what sort of, let's call them optic foils, have been used in the original he just put the ones he new were working fine with another mobile. But he didn't expect, as i am surprised too, that the digitizer have an optic foil inside as well. But before realizing, I suppose they already gave bonus to all those little workers and started overnight secret manufacture.
Before realizing the mistake, they already produced a lot of it. To cut the loses, I suppose they created a set of digitizers with a similar practice, which they would sell together with lcd and would be working good.
Now someone, your seller probably thought selling separate lcd would be ok too, so he did. That's why i was suggesting you have right to have an replacement, refund or an new digitizer from him at a fair price.
Of course don't take me too serious on the picture/painting matter, but otherwise I wouldn't be surprised if I came to true quite close
anyway those fake parts are a good quality and in most cases you wouldn't say difference. But shyt happens
as the rotating didn't solve issue completely problem would be those foils below lcd. if your seller would not be cooperative, you've got nothing to loose. open both lcds and change foils over.
Or get a fake digitizer which you would be sure is compatible with that screen.
If not successful, get a combo, lcd + digitizer.
hmm okay..
in the description is written original htc ware..
i had send my seller that problem and now we will see..
thanks a lot for those information..
I would be very interested in knowing how you got the digitizer and screen seperated? Arent they glued and most likely going to break easy?
did you mean the digitalizer and the lcd display or the front screen?
I opened one up once and the LCD appeared to be glued on to the back of the front screen (which I assume is the digitizer?)
ah okay.. eeerm.. i don't know that the lcd was glued on the digitalizer.. because my display has broken and the liquid was out of the display.. so the LCD was easy to take off..
But I've read some guys has warmed it firstly with a hair dryer and then they could take the display off..

you make me want to open ma rhodium.
if it's glued use a razor, or heat gun & blade like on apples.
then clean it and put new tape.

yeah dryer is maybe more safe just keep it below 100 cels. but it's not so vulnerable on bending too.
fake3: you sure you don't have protector foil on that lcd you bought?
i been playing around and get similar efect with a protection foil below polaroid.
there was still one protection foil on the front of the lcd.. but i already removed this foil..
but can you make a picture where the foil the polaroid is??

I was playing with just a generic foils. not rhodium.
They can put filters inside plastic nowadays. and mix even more of them and it's all still tiny.
If there is one in digitizer, it would cut sun reflections of lcd and would make good sense.
Glass could be tented, too. digitizer is usually one glass and one foil.
even if you would find something glued on lcd or digitizer, it's not possible to take it of without damage. I talked to people producing foils and applying them they can't take that off too.
There have you be one polarizer glued on front of lcd, otherwise you would see nothing. And they usually gluing one on back. That make the light more efficient. redirect light in useful directions, but is not necessary, that is another possible difference in your case. And probable, because it spares $ and space. But it's glued - no help there if that's the case.
but then there are all those which are dispersing light evenly, those you can try to change. They all have to be used in a set working together they create
something called Brewster condition, if that's not met, you see something like you see on your screen. every active foil is a part of it, and obviously there is something in your digitizer.
Just had another though, there is a small chance that htc decided to change factory or producing process themselves. and both are original. But I wouldn't say that's very probable.
So guys,
i solved the problem..
I bought an new Digitalizer from the same seller and now it works fine..
Thanks a lot for the hint with the different manufractures..
Greetz
happy to hear that
no worries
guys.. i wan to ask something..
my LCD is glued to my digitizer. since both of it is broken.. i juz throw the whole part away.
but then, i diden really glue my new / replacement LCD to my digitizer.
so i assume they did have some space in between.
although my rhodium works well now, but my digitizer only able to sense fingernail o stylus only. anything a tad bigger than fingernail, it wont pick up. neither my thumb nor my finger.
is this possible due to the space in between the screen made it so? or my digitizer was some lousy quality stuff?

The digitizer is a seperate part from the screen. It sends X - Y coords to the device letting it know where you pressed and the device coorelates that to what was on the screen where you pressed.
What I am saying is that you could have the two pieces seperated the screen in one place on the digitizer in another and you should still be able to press on the digitizer and have the device react appropriately.
The digitizer works independantly from the screen.
haha.. so in short.. it means by digitizer is lousy rite?
I Have de same problem, I need a new lcd screen but i dont know where buy

[Q] Guide on Replacing the Digitizer

Hi there,
I searched before posting this, but couldn't find anything for the Atrix...
Just wondering if anyone has seen/made a guide to replace the Glass/digitizer for the Motorola Atrix?
As to why I'm asking:
(If the image links don't work, you can find them as attachments to this post)
I've damaged the plastic around the glass (basically the housing, near the usb port) but I need to remove it from the digitizer...
I bought this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=572442&stc=1&d=1303199913
But as the ifixit teardown guide shows...
...When you take the phone apart, the glass is one with the housing.. Has anyone done this replacement of the digitizer or housing, if so, can you offer any suggestions, and what you used as adhesive to reattach the digitizer?
I've repaired the iPhone 3Gs and iPhone 4 before, both ranking higher in difficulty on ifixit's site, so I'm guessing the ATRIX should be a lot easier...
Anyways, any helpful tips or any guides would be greatly appreciated. I've already checked Google but no luck...

Or, this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbR56jSplRs
Broke my digitizer and did the job myself using the youtube guide above. Just used straight up superglue to glue digitizer to frame. I put a bunch on the top and bottom and very little on the sides.
Amazingly the phone worked when i put it back together... for a while until I screwed up one of the ribbons by opening it a bunch more times. Be extra careful with these, especially the volume/camera ribbon. You can bend it pretty easily trying to slide it back into its slot.
Good luck.
NB: Theres places that will do it for as little as $90 in case you don't want to take the risk.

Get a new digitizer, but get it from someone else.
That's what i feared, did you changed it back again afther that, and did it worked? and thanks.

No. I sold it and let someone else deal with it. Didn't have the time to replace the digitizer again. Too much of a hassle.
I just replaced a digitizer on an atrix... i didnt put any adhesive on it because there was what i thought was adhesive strips on the digitizer... but there's strips on the screen that doesnt respond, i heated it n tried reattaching the digitizer a few times n sometimes the home and back button will work, sometimes they wont... any suggestions? could the lack of adhesive cause this?

Go the ifixit route!
Just went through 3 digitizers in my repair, and wanted to share my experience/caveats
I bought one digitizer from All4Cellular for $25, and the others with a 20% discount a few days later, for $20.
I installed
the first using the RepairUniverse Youtube 'how-to' method, and had a heck of a time threading the flex cables through the slot. Bent/twisted it too much, and nothing responded on the touchscreen, so I read some forum posts on how fragile they were, and regarded that as user error.
Got the idea to move the LCD screen from another RepairUniverse YouTube video and a previous post here, and tried installing the digitizer from the front face of the phone. It was still a delicate matter to bend the flex cable so that it fit through the slot, and then re-position the LCD and align the sticky strips of the digitizer on the LCD and casing. Part of the digitizer worked this time - a 1cm vertical strip on the left fowled any attempt to touch icons or use a keyboard, so I thought I had damaged things again (doh!).
Hoping third time was the charm, I completely disassembled the phone using the guide in the 'ifixit' link, since a digitizer/case assembly was suggested in another thread. The rear camera just needs to be raised above the casing so the thin plate can move upward, and the LCD pops out easily if the sides of the casing are delicately pulled. The digitizer can be positioned easily and with minimal bending/twisting of the flex cables.
When reconnecting everything the third time, I noticed that pressing down on the front camera / digitizer connection *with the rubber boot in place* didn't pass when pulling the connected assembly upward. So I pulled the rubber boot out of the way and snapped the camera / digitizer connection firmly, then re-inserted the boot. A loose connection might have been the culprit for the nonfunctioning part of the digitizer in the second test.
@MrSaba - I had the same issue with capacitive buttons - perhaps because the screen senses touch and disables those buttons. Replacing the digitizer solved the issue
trouble
Hello friends,
Here's my story - broke a screen, as usual slipped from my pocket. though broken, digitizer worked fine. after replacement with new one (digitizer only) - no luck it didn't work. bought a new one, this time with a plastic part around it to avoid damage to it's cable. after careful repair no luck once again - does not work at all. downloaded a testing app (i was able to remote control the phone with a piece of soft called androidscreencast), everything is ok, except digitizer. checked and rechecked all ribbons and connectors 10 times, nothing seems to be broken or twisted.
what's your opinion, is it worth buying third one ? what part of my repair went wrong ?
thanks

Not all digitizers are created equal. The ones that ship with the red stripe on the backing are junk. Spend more money and yes buying with a frame is key. Did you try reinstalling the original screen or did that ship sail already?

The first one was with the red stripe indeed, from china. The one with a frame came from UK, "used but tested OK". original screen is gone - tore off flex cable while removing.
Well, update...
2 screens bought on eBay were BAD. Had to wait full month for authorised motorola service to change the digitizer. Must say though that both merchants on ebay refunded, no questions asked. Lessons learned - pay more, wait longer, never give up

What I noticed on their video was that their folded digitizer connector magically unseats itself during the disassembly transition. I had to pry mine off based purely on guesswork and think I might have broken the flip-chip that is stuck onto the frame with double-sided tape. Like yours, my touchscreen doesn't respond at all, despite there being no cable tears. I'm going to try and re-heat that flip chip and maybe get the connections to work again (doubtful).
To anyone else out there attempting this... when you go to remove the touchscreen, HEAT THE CONNECTOR so that you can gently pry it out!
Bad screen I got 3 before it worked its fine now if old one partially works new one doesn't screen is junk took mine apart several times to figure out screens were junk...guess they felt sorry for me give me my money back plus free working screen.from amazon
Also that lock clamp u mentioned first video I watched didn't show unlocking that I just pulled it out and pushed back in it was the 2 screen that I figured out it needed to be pryed loose by the white clamp but guess I didn't damage it..
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda premium
I have just put in my second digitiser. The first was one had a red stripe, which was junk, the second on I bought had the plastic round the edge and the digitiser.
I put it in and it worked fine no dead spots at all. Then 12 hours in it started to stop working intermittently. Then 24 hours after that while on charge its dead again. I reflashed notattrix and still nothing. I've confirmed all the ribbon connectors are firmly in place and everything looks right.
Any ideas whats wrong?
thanks
Jonnym

[Q] Drove over my Z ultra! :'( new screen?

It has a crack on the screen that made the touch screen stop working the other parts of the phone seem to be working. Is this just a replacement digitizer or a full LCD? The picture looks fine. I am hearing that it's hard to get the digitizer separated from the LCD screen? Aliexpress or ebay a good place to buy a replacement screen?
dafuk did u just do?? jesus ....
Uhm ..if you are not able to use warranty to sent it to repair. Make up a good story etc etc etc
Then start with taking it apart. Use a hairdryer or a hot air gun and circle around the back and then open the device.
There are official guides out there. Use them.

replaced my screen (with digitizer) a few months ago. i would strongly recommend buying screen with digitizer!
first had a sharp display now have a aou.
no problems. its actually quit easy to do. you just need some patience. dont forget to buy the adhesive. you may want to buy a opening tool (some vendors on ebay sell them with the display).
i didnt and used a box cutter but as a result i had a lot of tiny nasty glass pieces flying around (already removed the original foil on the display).
otherwise watch the guides on youtube. most of them are missing a step or two for disassembling so you may want to watch more then one guide.
