Not to confuse anyone, but this tutorial will be explained for Windows 7. But can be done on XP, Vista, Mac, and Linux (or any other OS for that matter). Just use Step Two Part B instead of Step Two, unless you know what you are doing. (if you know what you are doing, why would you be reading this. ;P)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
This tutorial will explain
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Import Contacts from Facebook to Outlook Express
Import Contact pictures from Facebook to Outlook Express
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are the tools needed. (*means it is added as an attachment)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Firefox
GreaseMonkey
AddressBooker GreaseMonkey Script*
BookSync CAB*
Windows Mobile phone with ActiveSync
GMail Account
Facebook Account
Common Sense
(You can use any browser that has a GreaseMonkey add-on, but I will use Firefox for this)
So once you have collected all the needed tools. Lets get to work.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP ONE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first thing you are going to need to do is to open up FireFox and install Grease Monkey. That can be found by clicking this link.
Once that is done, install the script, either by clicking here, or installing it from the attachment.
After you have added that script, you need to get to your FaceBook phonebook by clicking here, or logging into FaceBook, and going to friends > phonebook.
Once you are on that page, this is where the magic happens. You are going to click Tools > Grease Monkey > User Script Commands > Export Facenook Phone Book.

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
That should open a new screen. When it does, click the link that says "Merge into your Google Contacts for GMail, Android, etc."
It will once again, go to a new page that gives you an overview of what your import will look like.
Click the "DO IT" button, and click the allow this script to access your Google account.
Once that is finished you are half way done. Click here to check out your imported contacts. They will be added to the Facebook group.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP TWO
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now we need to set up Active Sync to work for us. This is how to do that the easy way.
I assume you know how to open up Windows Mobile Device Center.
So open it up, and click "Set up your device".
Once that is open, uncheck every field and click next. Wait for it to finish and this screen will come up.
Hover over "Mobile Device Settings" and click "more"
Then, click on "Sync wirelessly with Exchange Server". Enter in your details just like this, and click "set up"
Once it syncs, click on "Change content sync settings"
Check contacts and hit save.
Your contacts will sync and this part is done.
Check your phone to make sure it worked. PHOTOS WILL NOT BE THERE YET!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP TWO SECTION TWO
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
PART THREE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is where are are going to import photos to all your new contacts.
Install the Booksync CAB to your phone and open it up.
Once logged in click on "match"
And then "auto"
It will match up your contacts. Then click Sync.
I have 45 contacts and the sync took about 4 minutes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
CELEBRATE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
You are now finished.
Your contacts will be synced from now on. But when a new contact is synced, make sure to run Booksync again to grab their picture.
If there is request for a video tutorial, I will be more than happy to do that.
Thanks great guide
Thanks, I just sit around a watch most topics, so I am glad I could actually help out the community every now and then.
all of their info will be sync?
why there is no body create aplication thats made this easy, like RIM did .

Create SMS and Call shortcut files with just a few steps.
Manually creating shortcut files for sms and call sending to specific contacts requires using a text editor (in PPC and PC) and then manually typing text codes and memorizing the phone number for that particular contact, then repeating the same procedure again and again for each contact.
I've created this simple application to automate all of this. I hope it will also be useful to other people.
The shortcut files created will allow you to automatically create a new sms for a particular person, or make a call to a person, depending on what lnk file you chose to create.

v1.1
- multiple contacts LNK creation
- fixed call shortcut bug

Great thanks! Testing it right now.
But i got some (crucial) questions about the "stealth" behavior of your tool.
-creating a log file is super cool! But creating a logfile with a more blurry name could be helpfull since "alarm" and "antitheft" is quite suspicious
-like mentioned above - some way to keep the tool armed and its configuration set up >>even if<< the phone gets hard reset would be absolutely awesome!

It possible if you will add this program to your firmware.
Hi bartwell what people are asking is instructions on how to add this to a ROM we would need to add phone numbers and sim details and settings/Preferences before cooking into the ROM and details of that process would be very useful ,Reg settings or ini ??
Yes, you need setup program and then take registry data from here: HKCU\Security\Software\BArtWell\AntitheftSMSAlarm

Thanks for this software going to test it out, I know a couple people asked this but is their no way to add a feature in the near future where it can't be removed by a hard reset but only by a separate uninstall cab, basically what I'm saying is there a way to hide the program somehow from a hard reset if possible?
you can rename files
then cook it in your rom with settings taken from HKCU\Security\Software\BArtWell\AntitheftSMSAlarm
add atsa.exe to boot launcher, not to autostart
and hard reset will not erase program and settings from phone, but in real life if someone know how to do a hardreset then he will also be able to flash other rom.

Please advice program is good, but I've never seen how this program to uninstall. Thank you for your advice. Nice day
I've got 'CabBatchInstall' on my device, which is useful, as it allows you to install a batch of cabs one by one to your device, after updating the ROM or doing a hard reset. You generate a list by pointing at the directory where you've stored them, and can then edit the text file down to only include the cabs you want to install, rather than the entire contents of the directory you've pointed at. See the application thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407885.
This got me thinking: Is there an app for 'interrogating' your phone to see what you have installed on it at a particular point in time? After all, what you have installed is listed at Settings > Application > Remove Programs > And if there is, or if not, but someone would produce this sort of thing, could it be made to 'talk to' or be an addition to 'CabBatchInstall', so that the list of installed apps is the one 'CabBatchInstall' uses to do the batch install after hard reset or new ROM?
Just so you're aware, I've made similar post to this on the application thread I've linked above.
you could try listing the folders in Windows\AppMgr to a text file - MortScript which should be capable of this
Thanks p107r0, but I'm a complete novice when it comes to programming, mortscript and everything like that.
Oh well, I suppose it was a nice idea...
thats an excellent idea for an app. Sometimes I'll finally have my device set up exactly the way i like but it usually takes me going through and doing alot of installing/uninstalling to figure out what i want to get to that point. Or i'll flash a nee rom and really only want the apps that i had previously. This would prove quite helpful. Before I always had to resort to going to the "remove programs" screen and from there i would just keep scrolling down the list of apps and take screenshots so atleast i would know what they were.

SK Tools is for sure a very powerful set of utilities,
however in terms of price nothing beats the free stuff.
As for keeping track of installed apps, I prefer to just keep on my Storage Card an orderly folder with cabs (moreless similar to the structure used in XDA_UC), this way I always know what is installed and where, also whether it needs installing at all.
Hi.
I did the update for CM7 unofficial.
I am loving the rom but I found a problem that I deem important.
the contacts application of the rom does not have the option to associate Contacts, which was used to join the facebook contacts.
so I tried to put the contacts application of the stock but I got the following error:
http :// img823.imageshack. us/img823/2718/screenshot1316272563808.png
it made me think of alternative ways. I downloaded the application " FB photosync " associating the phone contacts with facebook. then I saw that any application that asks for login facebook send error like that:
This page contains the following errors: error on line 8 at column 35: xmlParseEntityRef: no name
Below is rendering of the page up to the first error.

Can someone help me to keep the CM7 with the application of the contacts of the stock or fix this error?
thanks!

no way??? :crying:
for example extract that from another xperia orginal rom like XPERA MINI??
Sorry, no way. There is no possibility to run this app on higher android - as I wrote before. It is not supported.
YOU CAN EXTRACT IT, maybe installation could work too, but you cant run it and restore your old backup...
Maybe when you use some Costum ROM based on official ROM with android 2.1
EDIT: Official infos from SE -> Not supported on 2.3+

Backup and restore of userdata
I agree in the need for a newbie-friendly backup/restore of userdata.
The official SEMC-apk sadly won't work.
This could be a newbie-friendly simple solution:

Root and backup
Download and install SuperOneClick http://shortfuse.org/
Connect the X10MP to the PC with the USB cable. Celect Charge phone.
Start SuperOneClick and click on Root. Follow instructions. If asked about your Android version is above 2.x, click Yes. Also click Yes to install Busybox.
When finished, turn off the X10MP, and then turn it on again.
Tap Market and search for "My Backup", select My Backup Root and install the app.
Start the app and allow the superuser request, and agree to some license etc.
Tap BACKUP > Data > Local.
Check the data you want to backup and tap OK. Remember the contactlist if you are an off-line person that do not sync to a Google account (now is the time to reconsider to sync it to Google).
Give the backup a name and tap OK, sit back and wait.
Did you use the Notes app, and do wish to keep those notes?
Start Market and search for GTasks and install the app.
When installed, start Notes app. Tap on a note you wish to keep. Longtap on the note (put your finger on the screen and hold it), select Copy all in the popup menu.
Exit Notes and start GTasks. Tap on the plus to add a new task. Longtap in the text field and select Paste in the popup menu, and then tap on Done.
Exit GTasks and repeat for all your notes. When finished, tap Syncronize in GTasks.
All your kopied notes are now available in Google Tasks, and are accessible from any app that accesses the Google Tasks.
If you are an offline-person who don't want to sync online, I can recoment Just Notepad for Android to save all your Notes as simple txt-files. Just follow the copy-paste-instruction from above. Tap the small SD-card icon to save each note as a normal txt-file on the SD-card.
Here you install your new custom ROM
Restore data
If you have your contacts synced to a Google account, tap Settings > Accounts & sync > Add account > Google > Next > Sign in. Wait for your account to sync the contactlist and calandar.
If you are an off-line person, and backed up your contacts etc. using My Backup Root or backed up call log, SMS and MMS, tap Market (and log into your Google acount) and search for "My Backup", select My Backup Root and install the app.
Start the app and allow the superuser request, and agree to some license etc. Tap RESTORE > Data > Local.
Select the data file, and check the data to restore. Sit back and wait.
