Ticking Timer - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

I developed very simple application - stop-watch with sound. The application provides sound every second. The application is useful for creating nervous environment for some tasks with time limit
Tried on HTC Touch HD and HD2.
Attached Russian version as well (TickTimerRus).

I am going to test.
Thanks

Hi!
I like simple timer + stopwatch like this
But this type of app would be more useful if their running values are visible at the home-screen so I can easily check their values by just pressing home-key instead of taskmanager.
Another advantage of home-screen plug-in is that I will never forget them running in the background eating battery.
cheers!

New version
Ok, for you I made special one - but, since home plugins are rarely used with new devices, now the ticktimer status is displayed as taskbar icon. Works well on HTC HD2, not sure about other devices. Also changed the colors to dark.

I put some sounds in the last posted cab. The wav files are to be located in My Documents folder.

I've done a similar application for Android devices as well - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19098913

[Update 04/04/08! v1.07.02] Skinnable Analog Clock Today Plugin "Retro"

Retro PPC 1.07.02 for WM5 and WM6
~ Official Website ~I've made this little plugin that displays an analog clock, similar to those wall clocks.
It is a PPC port of my previously-released Retro plugin for the smartphone
You can make your own skin with your PC and REdit. Look below and download it. (REdit needs .NET Framework 2.0 installed on your PC).
News:
Development on Retro is stopped, for now. If you are really interested on bringing it ahead, please contact me by PM or email and maybe I'll release the source.
Main Features:
completely skinnable
skins work like photoshop files (with layers)
antialiased-grade graphics quality, better than alternatives (namely spbclock)
can be centered, left, right aligned with a margin
can create stunning effects: canvas shadows, hand shadows, transparent clocks, glass translucency, semi-transparency, etc...
real-time second hand motion (for faster PDAs)
How To Install:
Retro is compatible with WM5 and upwards!
Run the CAB file on your PDA, make sure to choose to install it into internal memory.
Put additional clock files (skins) created by others into the install dir, then you can choose them in the plugin options under Settings - Today - Items tab. The CAB file already comes with 3 basic skins.
I hope you like it.
Where to download:
Retro and REdit can be found on their official site.
Known bugs:
- does not work correctly with non-square clock sizes
- clock will not update while the screen is locked
Version history:
Retro Update 04-03-2008 v1.07.02
- Added "Alarm hand" to Retro and REdit, that shows the hour position of one of the system alarms.
- Added 24-Hour hand.
- Added the capability to short-cut to the system Clock & Alarm properties.
- Added the capability to embed Author & Name info into the clocks.
- Fixed the bug that prevented Retro from animating properly while embedded in Wisbar Advance Desktop.
- 15-20% speed improvement.
(the new setting screen is shown in the second attachment)
Retro Update 11-29-2007
- Fixed plugin didn't appear in Today settings in WM5 devices
Retro Update 11-23-2007 v1.06c3:
- Fixed slow application startup from desktop due to deadlock in slow priority code (introduced in 1.06c2)
Retro Update 11-17-2007 v1.06c2:
- Fixed CAB install package for non-english PPCs (testers needed!)
- Lower thread priority for clock drawing - should ensure that apps start as quick as possible when opened from the homescreen
REdit Update 04-03-2008 v1.07.03:
- Fixed some crashes for stupid issues.
- Fixed a duplicate preview-window bug.
- Added code to support new features in Retro 1.07.02.

Good app
It's good. You should know that rlToday does this already and more. I do like yours better though as there is less screen flicker when going back tot he Today screen. You need more examples. Also when clicking on the clock it should open the clock applet liek the standard one does. A smaller clock available would be good, with a second hand. And the date printed somewhere.
Thanks!

For the smaller clock issue, well, you can do one for yourself. Also REdit has an option to resize clocks, so you can resize the Austere clock which has the seconds hand (included with the package) to better fit your screen.
This is excellent
has kept me busy for the last hour making a rough and ready skin from the Omega Seamaster. Found an iage of one on the 'net and started Photoshopping from there...
Images are photographic so blurred slightly when resized, but generally pleased for a first attempt.
Might have another go at some point and make one from scratch.

clocks aren't resizable from Retro... you should download REdit (see 1st post), open the clock with it, and then use the "resize clock" function in the Tools menu. Be advised taht resized clocks forcedly look worse than the original ones!...

skinning...well....skins are layered files (up to 30 layers) with PNG files attached to them, so there's alpha transpparency... try downloading REdit and familiarizing with it ...

MortButtons 2.5

MortButtons is around since about 4 years, but since there's quite some hype recently about both "touch-able" menu systems like Spb Menu or TouchCube and "click-through" button enhancers like HButton, maybe MortButtons might be interesting for some people, too.
It offers all required ways to launch a menu entry (press app button multiple times and wait for timeout, direction pad, tapping the entry), allows freely configurable items for up to 5 main menus (any number of entries and sub menus; don't believe old sites telling about an entry limit, it doesn't exist since years...), includes a task list (like Alt-Tab), offers many "special" entries (system settings, new documents, calls, new messages, screen rotation, ...), is skinnable, free (though donations would be nice), ...
V2.5 compared to V2.41 mostly adds some "facelifts" (new icons and skins, alpha channel support, images as icons for entries, user defined backgrounds, ...) and better performance, but also some new features like finger gestures and access to the system settings.
More informations, download, manual, etc. is available here.
(Screenshot shows TransAqua1 (new default) skin with Spb's Snowy theme as background, icons are "GlassIcons" .png images available in Rotlaus' forum intended for rlToday).
Wow, Thank you so much for such a wonderful software. I just started using Mortbuttons just a few weeks ago and like it very much.
I have made a skin that goes well with the Touch look and would like to share it.

Thanks. Btw, it's also possible to create a skin with bigger tiles like the original TouchCube style. You can use any size for the menu entries you like, as long as MortButtons manages to fit at least one entry on the screen...
Nice Mort! I'll try it and give you some feedback
By the way, can I include this on a ROM ?

Nice one, tough the alpha layer isn't very obvious.
Little hint: Zip only the folder contents itself (i.e. no subfolder in the archive), then change the file extension from .zip to .mbz. Having to copy only a single file makes skin installation a bit more easy for beginners. And it saves some space, though usually more by better cluster usage than by compression (most images already are compressed...).

Very nice update, the launch time seems to be much less. There does seem to be a bit of a memory leak? But not sure how to pinpoint if its cuz of MortButtons or something else. Nevertheless, it is a very nice, free, and actually more powerful alternative to other touch/launcher kinda applications.
Also a fan of MortScript (for small, useful tasks) and MortPlayer (THE audio player for winmobile ). Do you have a smartphone version of MortPlayer planned?
VGA & icons pixelization
Hi,
I just tried on my VGA PDA (Dell Axim X51v), and application icons which are VGA-enabled, appear pixelized in MortButton. Any idea on what I did wrong?
Great work Mort. I've been using mort buttons since about the day after I got my vario II 16 months ago. It was the ideal solution to the missing capabilities I had always presumed a touch screen device would come with by default!
I much prefer it to all of these today screen launchers as these seem to slow down the phone and generally use smaller, less usable buttons for my sausage fingers!
One thing I've noticed though, the new built in shortcuts to the control panel options don't seem quite right. e.g. I've added a shortcut to the Memory control panel on a menu. Having launched the Memory panel, the only way to close it is by pressing the 'ok' button on the top right of the screen - neither OK button works....
Alternatively, if I add a .lnk shortcut which starts the memory panel (with the shortcut "Settings>System>Memory>Main = 20#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4") the panel launches fine and can be closed with the OK buttons no problem.
The same goes for Input, Phone, Today panel shortcuts...
I was wondering if MortButtons is not closing properly after launching these settings links?
Apart from this quibble, a great update. Keep up the good work - I'd have binned this phone long ago if it wasn't for this App!!
MortButton and FTouchFlo
Thanks Mort for a great app. I was wondering what is the command line to launch each of the buttons. I was trying to use this in conjunction with efrost's FTouchFlo app where I assigned a gesture like leftright app to launch button 1 by putting the path "\Program Files\MortButtons\Button1.mbi" but that did not launch button1 when gesturing. Would you happen to have a solution?

I experienced the same. But if you link to the 'Button.exe'. It will bring you to the main menu where you can see the 5 buttons. While this is one more step extra, better than nothing.
^ What you guys are trying to do works fine here.
For e.g. go to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\MortButtons and see how the shortcut for button 1 is created (if you have a good file explorer such as gsfinder you can see the shortcut as well as the command line parameter).
Basically the shortcut should point to \Program Files\MortButtons\MBRunner.exe and the command line parameter should be \Program Files\MortButtons\<path_to_button>.mbi. Both of these paths should be put in Ftouchflo config without quotation marks around. This makes for a much faster, customizable and full featured launcher than the cubes.
Thanks. That did the trick!

Once again for dummies. You mean:
LeftRightApp:\Program Files\MortButtons\MBRunner.exe
LeftRightAppCmdLine:\Program Files\MortButtons\Program Files\MortButtons\Button3.mbi?
I tried:
LeftRightApp:\Program Files\MortButtons\MBRunner.exe
LeftRightAppCmdLine:\Program Files\MortButtons\Button3.mbi
but it didn't work, it shows an empty "MortButton" window.
Maybe you need to use quotes around the parameter (i.e. mbi file). Otherwise it might be MortButtons tries to load "\Program" as menu informations, which doesn't quite work...
The exact method that you've listed works for me. Are you using the latest version of ftouchflo? I remember one of the versions had a bug in the leftright swipe..
Where can I find soft-reset function and it's Icon so that I can put it on the Mortbutton. Annoying each time wanna do soft reset have to tuck the stylus in the hole.

iCaller - simple CallerID app - alpha version 0.1.0.3

iCaller v0.1.0.3 alpha
Simple CallerID application which extends system default Incoming Call screen with full-sized pictures, additional contact information and fully customized interface.
Currently, it is an alpha version, which means that it may contain bugs and do not work correctly on some devices. Please give me the feedback, I'll be fixing issues.
You may get it also at my new home site
Features:
- Lightweight
- Expands default incoming call screen without affecting its behavior
- Full-sized contact picture
- Pictures can be stored on a Storage Card or in Pocket Outlook database
- Picture can vary for the same contact depending on its phone number (just name the picture with a number, e.g. 5554433.jpg)
- Customized interface based on HTML (using system HTMLView control, thanks for idea goes to mrproper)
ToDo:
- Screen lock functionality
- Speed improvements
- Bugfixing
Instructions:
- Unpack contents of the archive in a folder on your device, e.g. \Program Files\iCaller (do not forget to copy zlibce.dll too!)
- Check settings.ini - it is configured for English version of Windows Mobile OS, you may need to replace sSysCallerWndTitle option from 'Phone - Incoming...' to your localized name of system default Incoming Call window
- Launch iCaller.exe
For detailed instructions refer to readme.html
Note!
Stop and restart iCaller each time you modify the settings.ini file!

Haven't tested with Manila yet. Probably it will require modifying sSysCallerWndClass and sSysCallerWndTitle options in settings.ini to properly hide Manila CallerID. I'll investigate the delay issue too. Thanks for the feedback!
mmh, this is a feature that is build in s2u2 allready (runnes on any device, fullscreen), so where is the different if this is ready?
So this might only be usefull if there is really someone out there who does not use s2u2 , (maybe throttlelock users)

Not to forget that iCaller works usefully on Smartphones whereas I, for one, have never gotten anything working with S2U2 on a Smartphone. Plus it's lightweight and since you're using the HTMLViewer that means it's also pretty configurable.
I've got a few ideas myself on themes for it...!

I assume you can put this in the startup drawer/folder or put a .lnk to it there to start this everytime the phone starts?

You say its customizable with graphics..Is this a whole skin/theme ability or just replacing already existing files ?
And is it possible to have gfx for tapped state as well ? And transparent PNG files ?
If so, I would be really interested in skinning it (once its stable and fast ^^).
And, maybe I get this wrong but what do you mean by "screen lock functionality" ?? Sounds like S2U2
regards,
Martin
mmh, its lightwight, of course because it has not much functions, so wait two weeks and we will see because it seems that there is a lock function coming too
The other thing is that you need this and a screenlocker application and a volume control application and and and. with s2u2 you can disable parts of programm. Just my thoughts about another calleer iD.
But maybe usefull for non touch devices or other lockers, as i said.
hey Schmidler, Oesterreich gehoert wieder zu Deutschland *kleiner Spass aus Bayern
Running it on ATT Tilt, stock 6.1 rom, with HTC Home Plugin. Works great so far. I like the HTML layout, it can be customized quite easily.
I have been looking for something like this for a while now, I'll test some more and report back.
yes, S2U2 already got a lot of functionality, but its true that it´s memory intesive.

огромное спасибо!
Going to try on my wizard to see how it works. hopefuly it will rescale my outlook contact photos to something more reasonable.
edit:
Here is a smaller picture for the no caller id.
it is saved as a 2color png in 8bits
weighs less than a kb as oposed to the 7kb in the one you posted.
(This should make a lot the difference with speed as well)

I think that the big difference is that it is so lightweight.
You can have as many pictures as you want for your people on storage card without making PIMVOL as huge as mine (1.5mb) and only for few contacts!
can you immagine if I had pictures for ALL of my 200+ contacts??? that would probably add up to 5mb!

Installed on my HTC Touch on program files , but still getting the small screen with the picture on the background.
How do i get rid of the small old screen showing the number & get only the new full screen.

here is what happened on my wizard:
installed ran testcalled from a friends phone.
at the top of the screen I got 3 pictures (same ones from my outlook. under it the blue screen. under that the standard windows mobile bubble.
I think that there needs to be some kind of a scaling engine for outlook photos. at least double size. and the background needs to change from the scarry blue to a black or very dark grey.

[APP] (2009-02-05) TouchBack v1.0b4 - Haptic/Touch Feedback for DialPad/SIP

Updated to v1.0 - BETA4 (2009-02-05)
About TouchBack
TouchBack is an application for emulating haptic feedback for Windows Mobile 6.0 devices. It has been designed simply to give a configurable feedback response to your fingers within the SIP window and within the DialPad window. Settings persist between device resets and you can enable TouchBack to start-up automatically upon device bootup.
The current version of TouchBack is being released as a beta, as I'd like to get some feedback on how it works for you. Despite the beta status, I have been running the program daily since the end of November and it hasn't crashed once yet - No detectable slow-downs have been caused by running the application in the background either (and the memory footprint is very small at 4KB).
I do realise that other decent haptic feedback programs have popped up (e.g. TouchResponse), and I don't want the authors to feel like I'm trying to step on their toes. I just thought it was a waste to not release the application after pouring time into it - I may also consider releasing the source code once I get my website up and running.
Please leave feedback on whether or not TouchBack works for you and your device. Enjoy!
Features
Haptic feedback (!) within SIP, DialPad or Both.
Support for multiple dialers (stock DialPad and iDialer so far).
Activate feedback On Press, After Press or Both.
Configurable vibration length (minimum: 1ms)
Configurable ignore press period (prevent multiple vibrations).
Start-up automatically on reset.
Settings persist across resets.
Installation/Setup
Download the CAB file and copy to your device.
Run the CAB and install the program.
Run the TouchBackCfg application found within your Start menu.
Configure your desired settings - Ensure your notification (vibration) port is correct (click on test area to check).
Click on Menu -> Save Config to save your settings.
Click on the "Start" button to start TouchBack, then you can exit the program.
Version History
Version 1.0 - BETA4
Added: Support for different dialers (currently: stock DialPad + iDialer).
Fixed: Vibration does not work on stock DialPad when non-English language is set.
Version 1.0 - BETA3
Fixed: Failure to create/delete startup shortcuts on systems with non-standard startup path (e.g. Non-English).
Version 1.0 - BETA2
Added: Resolution-aware Dialogs.
Fixed: Configuration does not display correctly on VGA displays.
Version 1.0 - BETA1
Initial Beta Release.

Why is it better TouchResponse?

Just looking at it, it has the advantage of being much smaller in size, so you'd assume it uses less memory. It also supports the dial pad which I think is very good.
please, make this program to display properly on diamond, evrithng else works like a charm!
What's the problem? How does it display? I presume you're talking about the TouchBackCfg application. Are parts of it cut-off? I can work on fixing that if that is the case. Please let me know if it is similar to the attached image.
It sounds so good! Actually, I looked for a vibration feedback only for SIP and Dialpad, so it looks like just perfectly suit...
But unfortunately, on my Cruise, the vibration don't work for the dialpad (I use the Amine Opal Dialer). Only works for the SIP (TouchPal).
Do you think it is possible to fix that?
Thanks!
yes, just like that - cutted off...
Does this app still have that problem that TouchResponse has? The one where sometimes a touch stimulates a stronger vibration from time to time?
And is there anyway to have exceptions in this? Like suppose I don't want it to give me haptic feedback in a certain app.
Nice work Kay_! Works great on my Sprint Diamond. Keep up the great work.

Hey Kay,
Thats exactly how my screen looks on a Touch Pro (VGA) and i dont get feedback when dialing, just on the keyboard.
I checked the settings too, they were right...
nice app!

Looks nice and almost identical to TouchResponse.
Can we know, from your side, the differences or benefits this has over TouchResponse?
Thanks

I've added resolution-awareness to the config application, so it should now display correctly on VGA devices. There is a separate profile for those with the HTC Touch HD to take advantage of the slightly roomier window space. ;-)

You can vary the period that TouchBack prevents multiple vibrations using the "Ignore Length (ms)" setting. The default is set to 100ms, and this seems to prevent most repeats - But you may need to adjust it higher if you're a particularly fast typist (erm, "stylist" if you're an adept stylus user I suppose!)

As for exclusions, this currently isn't supported - The idea was to make TouchBack a simple program that targets the SIP window and DialPad windows only. Why do you not want haptic feedback for a specific window?

Aye - The current support for the HTC Touch HD default dialpad is a bit of a hack, so I thought this might not work across different mobiles. On the upside, if you let me know exactly what dial pad it is then I'll be able to get it onto my Touch HD and see if I can program support in for it. I'll have a look into the Amine Opal Dialer that zen_green mentioned too.
...
Thanks for the feedback folks! Don't let me stop you though, try out BETA2. I'll implement AppToDate support after we get past the initial BETA period (well, that is if people want to continue using the application, hehe).

TouchBack primarily runs as a tiny (4Kb) resident program that sits in the background, and hooks into system events - It doesn't consume any processing time apart from when you've clicked/pressed the screen. Performance is also very good with regards to feedback response and there is no appreciable slowdown from activating vibration.
This isn't a direct comparison with TouchResponse, as I'm unaware of the internals of that program; although I do know that my approach to the problem is different from that of TouchResponse (but I'm not claiming that this method is better, just different). Thus. I'm hoping to sell TouchBack on its simplicity and small memory footprint, and the fact that I'm primarily targetting SIP/DialPad as opposed to giving general haptic feedback for everything.
I'll have to let users themselves decide which they like - Please try out the program and see for yourself. All feedback and constructive criticism is entirely welcome.
Thanks very much for considering our comments and requests.
Keep this great work!
On my french HTC Touch HD, I don't get any vibration with the dialpad. I use the stock ROM, with the stock dialpad. Maybe a localisation failure ?
(I can't make TouchBack to start with Windows either : I got the error "could not create shortcut").
Aye - Likely a localisation issue. I'll have to look into programmatically looking up the name (via SHGetSpecialFolderPath) for the start menu rather than just assuming it is "Start Menu" *cough* hard-coded *cough*. I am writing a test app to help me diagnose these issues at the moment.
OK, solved the localisation issue with the startup path. I'll upload the new version whenever I make some progress on making it work with DialPads other than the stock English ROM one.

As above.
Will this work for iDialer (the keypad that accompanies iContact)? If not can you associate it iDialer?
I've made that my default dial pad on my Diamond and would like haptic response.
Thx.

Star Wars Sounds

Hi Guys, here is my first attempt at making an App for the HTC HD2.
There are 3 sounds for each character, 4 for Vader. Keep selecting the character to select the next sound.
This will only work for touch screen devices, i haven't included any code for 4 way button phones.
Hope you like it.
Bollux.
<edit>
Hi all, here's version 2.
I've listened to the requests and added some extra buttons after selecting the character, and hopefully fixed the install to Storage Card option.
Works on my HTC HD2. Should now install to %instdir%\Program Files\StarWarsSounds\ by default.
Regards
Bollux.
WOW! Thank you!
I'm so over the moon with this. I was really hoping someone would do one. Fantastic picture interface, so much fun!!
When you said it was your first app I thought it was going to be really basic - but it's absolutely great. You should post some screenshots!
There just seems to be a minor issue with the sizing of the Luke icon at the bottom that's causing scrollbars to appear on my HD2.
Cheers,
Ian
Screen Shots
Thanks, Here's a Screen Shot on the test Device.
Not sure why the sliders are there, the code to show the pictures should only fill the available screen size. I used the me.width and me.height parameters. The icons are a much better fit on the HD2 screen 480x800.
Vb code used,
PictureBox8.Image = StarWarsSounds.My.Resources.Luke_lg
PictureBox8.Height = (Me.Height)
PictureBox8.Width = (Me.Width)
All the icons are sized with similar code to fit width and height.
'Luke
PictureBox8.Image = StarWarsSounds.My.Resources.Luke_sm
PictureBox8.Height = (Me.Height / 4)
PictureBox8.Width = (Me.Width / 3)
I did take out the keyboard icon toolbar, that shouldn't be there..

Just ran it again and can't recreate the issue I was having (the Luke icon was stretched off screen). It's working fine now. I'll keep playing and see if I can work out a consistent way that recreates it (or maybe it was just my phone going a little loony!)
Minor thing, but I notice that if you tap multiple times (even when a pic is showing?) it queues up all the tap events - it would prob be nicer if it just played one sound at a time and blocked the event listener until a sounds has completed if that makes sense. (Accidental taps cause it to go on a while)
hehe - even the icon in the start menu is cool
Cheers,
Ian
Nice work keep on making more ones!
Not working...
Hi,
being a StarWars Fan for years, I just had to try your app, but doesnt work.
I see the graphics, but when I tap on a picture, I just get a short "beep" and the pic is flashing.
I can play the sounds via MSMediaPlayer w/o probs.
Using Tosh TG01, WM 6.5.5, NetCF3.7
Maybe you find a solution, would really love to use this little prog.
"May the force be with you"
Installed to device memory, still had plenty of space.
I have the latest netcf on an hd2, and I cannot really hear anything.
I see the main screen, click on any character, I see what is a brief flash of a bigger picture (with associated scrolbars around), that lasts a splitsecond, but then the program goes back to the standard view, and all in all i can hear anything.
I can open the files in resources folder ok with nmedia player tho
Hi bo11ux!
Nice Idea! Do you plan to do some Star Trek / Babylon 5 / Battlestar Galactica version of your work? Would love to see that!
Thanks,
Future
installed " STAR WARS SOUNDS " on on my
..hd with 6.1 stock rom ..(storage card )..
no problem .... working smoothly..!!
thank you ,

I have same problem.
Maybe you use reg edit for non sound notification if change volume system/call ring volume.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\volume] key mute get more than 1
After this i hear the sounds from SW
I have that same problem. Just a short flash of the picture and a little beep. Hope someone has a solution to fix this.
thanks
works great on my sprint diamond wm 6.1 stock rom
hehe, i like this - well done
Thanks, my son will love this! Installed on LG iQ (GW825) in memory, using COM2(21901) custom rom from Dark. Works great!
Works well on my HD2 with stock Telstra 1.72 Rom & Manila 2.5.2012. Worked even better once I took the phone off silent. Oops!! Nice work
Tested and works well in HTC Touch HD.

I have HTC Topaz, but i thing that on HD2 it was similar.
Great app, I like the Star Wars apps! But I have also that problem: just a short flash of the picture and a little beep.
I have a HTC Touch HD with WM6.5. I hope someone can fix this.

Just changed from 3 to 7, but I now hear a beep. But apart of the sound, it works on my diamond, so also VGA.
