need help copying files via wifi - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, i used ssh in my iphone to copy big files to and from my iphone and PC through my wifi router. Is that possible in my hero, given that its a much more open platform. connecting the usb cable every time is a big hassle.

I just use Estrongs File Explorer which lets you map network drives (Windows).

I use ftpserver on the phone so I can use an ftp client on the PC.

Add my Titan to home network via Wifi?

Is there a way to add my TItan to my home network via Wifi (not 3g) so I can access shared files on my PC? And vice-versa?
Turn on wifi and connect to your home network...
Not sure if there is software that supports Windows' file sharing though. You might have to use something like FTP instead.
The titan has built in wi-fi... you can connect it to your network that way.
If you wish to access files on your PC, you'll need an application capable of doing that. I dont think the built in file explorer does it. I use resco file explorer. There is an option to map network drives. I find that once you enable wi-fi and try to connect to your PC it takes 60 seconds, and is pretty fast after that.
I know you can also use activesync to connect to your device over the wireless. this should get you the functionality fo connecting to your device from the PC.
Edit::
I had to use pocket hosts to make my device talk to my PC.. and it was tricky to setup. This was another device with Windows mobile 2003 on it though... havent tried with WM6.1.. Maybe it got easier.
Install the attached cab file. Add any shared folders from your home computers onto your Titan. Add network shared folders from Start | Settings | Connections | Network Plugin.
This will let you access your network files on your phone. Not sure about the other way around. You can try \\your.wifi.phone.ip\program files\ to see if you access your phone's folders through your home computers.
Not at home right now, so can't test the home computer to phone mapping - let me know if this does work for you.

I keep getting a "Map Drive failed" error.
Here's my settings:
Remote Path: \\ASUS-F3JM\Public
Local Name: Public
When I click "Map Drive" I get the error. Any ideas?
I was thinking it had to do with Domain/Workgroup settings on the phone. How do you specify those? However, when in the settings of HTC Network Plugin, I can browse to Network Neighborhood--> ASUS-F3JM, but there's no folders showing up under my computer. I already checked and made sure sharing is on on the laptop (it shares just fine with the other pc's on the network).
ps - i'm using Vista Business 64bit on the laptop
Some more history - this used to work pretty well under WinMo6.0, but was causing the below error on occasion in 6.1, and also on the TouchPro. I always have a FTP server (http://filezilla-project.org/) running on all my machines at home, and end up using a browser (opera mini) to connect to my home drives via the ftp method. Works well if you are downloading off the home machines.
I haven't found a decent ftp client for winmo that allows true add/delete files across both connecting systems.

Yeah, I have the latest version of dcd's ROM, obviously using WinMo6.1, so maybe I'll have to try the ftp thing when I get a free minute.
As far as I know Resco File Explorer will allow you to browse FTPs as if they are local files and Mocha FTP is freeeware now (it is an FTP server for Windows Mobile) so you can use that to copy files to you phone from other computers.

I use Resco File Explorer to access Shares on my Home PC's via my WiFi Lan. It works very well. It can save links with user names and passwords so I can just turn on the WiFi and make a quick connection.
A follow-up: I had the fortunate experience of having to hard reset my Sprint TP, and went through the process of installing the HTC Network cab listed above. Mapping a shared drive directly, without going through the browse feature failed.
However, it did work, when I browsed to the machine, selected the shared folder, and provided the correct login credentials (domain information not required - at least in my case, as all machines are in the default: Workgroup).

[Q] Anyone got a WiFi file explorer to work?

I am trying to get Dooblou WiFi File Explorer Pro to work but when I type the address into my PC it can't find it.
My phone has the IP 192.168.1.110, and when I ping this from my PC (192.168.1.100) i get
'Reply from 192.168.1.100, destination host unreachable'
My gateway is 192.168.1.1.
I can browse the net on my phone just fine.EDIT: sometimes i cant browse the internet, its a bit hit and miss actually.
(on a side note: just tried WiFi Analyzer and it picks up about 7 other networks around me, my DHD only picked up one other apart from mine. The antenna must be powerful on the SGS2!)
I've been using SharesFinder, sounds like what you want.
I guess I could use this.
But really I want to get Dooblou WiFi File Explorer Pro. Its so simple to use. You start if on your phone then navigate to the address it gives on your PC... simples!
I know about Kies Air, I haven't looked into that yet. It's just annoying me that Dooblou WiFi File Explorer Pro isn't working!
no problems with SwiFTP
sent from my SGSII via Tapatalk
Estrongs works ok for me, used it on my last 3 handsets and on my Transformer.
MyPhoneExplorer works great for me. No IP addresses needed. Just install on your PC and the app on the phone. Run them both and hey presto!

[Q] push files to my phone

Unfortunately I left my cable and charger at home but I need to push some files to my evo. The only problem is, is that I don't have internet access right now on my laptop. Is there a way I can host an adhoc wifi on my laptop and have my phone connect and I would be able to access some files and put files on it that way? Thanks for any help and suggestions in advance.

Not sure if you can do it wirelessly. It would require that your PC was able to host a wireless network, and not many can do that. Wireless file sharing programs require your modem to host a network and act as a go between. Your phone can host a network, but without root, you'd have to pay Sprint for their wireless tether, and still, IDK if that would give you access to wherever you need to push those files. You also can't connect your phone to your laptop in order to run temproot, and set up a wireless tether solution... since you don't have a cable...
In short, I think you're SOL. I can't think of a non root method that allows you to connect your phone to your PC as if it was plugged in.
If you can get to somewhere that has wifi, you can download wifi file explorer from the market. I think it costs a couple of dollars, but it is worth it. Once you have it installed on your phone, connect your phone to the wifi network and then run the program. It will give you the ip address of your phone. Then, just type that address into your internet explorer or whatever browser you have on your laptop and it will connect to your phone. After that, it gives you the option to pick a file to upload to your phone. It takes less time to do all this than it took me to type it. Super Easy and it works great!

[Q] How to explore laptop with es file manager via wifi

I am new to android world.Plz help me with this problem. I am using connectify to make my laptop as a wifi hotspot. And using my laptop's internet connection into my Htc DHD without any problem. Now the problem is,today i am trying to access my DHD files via wifi using SwiFTP,it's OK but i cant access my laptop's files from my DHD using es file manager. It shows nothing on scan.I am going to LAN option then menu->new->scan it shows nothing.Plz help me brother. And forgive me for my bad English.
I'm assuming that you are using connectify as you don't have a wireless router.
SwiFTP FTP only sets up a FTP server on your phone so other machines can connect to it to access files. It doesn't work the other way around.
To see files on your laptop from your phone you need to set up a windows/samba share on the laptop. Then scan should pick that up.
Hope that helps, if you have any more questions just ask.
