Hi folks,
I have developed some applications for Pocket PC already, but now I have an idea, where my knowledge is not enough.
It is yet another today plugin for displaying weather data.
I have searched lots of differentprograms and plugins to display weather data and forecasts on the today screen, but none of them fits my needs.
I think of an application which can do the following:
A Today plugin that show a city, the actual temperature and a forecast of the next days in one line.
When tapping an icon left of the city you get a fullscreen applicationwith more options
When tapping the city, you get detailed information about the city (GPS-position, height, links to google-maps, links to wikipedia and so on)
When tapping the temperature you get a screen with actual weather data, temperature, wind, pressure, clouds, rain, snow. Also a history of the last 24 hours for the temperature (a small graph) to see when it was coldest and hottest the last 24 hours. I need this to see if I have to get up a bit earlier because the streets and my car may be frozen. The actual temperature right now is not enough for me.
If you tap on a forecast icon you get a detailed forecast for the selected day.
The options screen lets you select another city for the today plugin, manage your list of cities and connects withyour GPS. This way you can add the place where you actually are as a city for the today-plugin.
Furthermore you can display how far away from your location the next weather station is. I think this could be useful to know how accurate the data is. It is a difference if the next weather station is 100m away or 10 km.
You can also open another screen, where you can see your actual GPS position, heading, speed, travelled miles, average and maximum speed and the actual weather at your location. This way when driving my car, I know the temperature outside. Or when walkingin the mountains I have the forecast for the next hours.
Of course there are some settings screens and so on. Maybe I can even display actual satelite pictures.
I have found almost every of these functionalities in the programs I have tested, but not all funtions in one application. And some functions did not work in some of these applications.
However my knowledge of programming is not good enough to do this application alone.
Maybe there are some developers out there who like the idea and we can do a project together?
I have lots of more ideas what to do with such an application.
Anybody want to help?
greetings
Jürgen

I've been searching for a solution to this problem for a while, but it seems like I'm the only one who this is happening to. Since the DST change earlier this month, my Touch Pro won't stay on DST after a re-boot. After syncing it with my computer (I have all the DST updates and stuff from MS), it goes to DST. I've let it wait for the network to fix it, I have an active sync with Google's exchange server, but it only goes to DST after a physical sync with my computer.
The even weirder thing is, while both the clocks in the TouchFlo interface and the clock in the WM6.1 settings dialog display the wrong time (i.e. after a re-boot), PocketShield displays the CORRECT time on the lock screen. This is really odd, since I thought the time in PocketShield was based on the WM clock. The only other application I can think of that uses the clock is G-alarm... but other users have reported that their DST issues were not related to G-alarm.
there is an issue it has to do with your carrier not your phone I had the same issue. go into your setting for the clock and turn off the auto update on startup. That will fix your problem. it is probably just the tower near you having the issue. I had the same issue. I have found references to other types of phones having it to. Strange but true.
Are you running TF3D2? if you are, NEVER tap the clock in it - there is a DST bug in it.
ALWAYS use the "Settings / System / Clock & Alarms" program to adjust your time.
Always apply WMDST2008-1.CAB and WMDST2008-2.CAB files to your PHONE. A lot of Cooks seem to leave them out.
Always switch OFF the "Automatic change time zone and clock" option in Phone / Time Zones.
yeah, I'm having this same problem. However, mine changes to an hour forward about 30 mintues after I change it back, doesn't require a reboot of the device. I can't figure it out.
Mine is okay on the Today screen, but the clock icon is off an hour, must be a DST bug, though what is odd, my clock icon in the top bar is a old style hand clock and not actual time numbers, not sure when it changed, if it was an app I installed or some setting I screwed without realizing.
I will look into the suggestions above.
Thank you
David
If you launch the phone dialer/Dialpad, Menu/Options/Services. Scroll through the services choices, and you will find and option for time synchronization. Make sure the settings for this is set to Time synchronize with the mobile network.
As long as the network is set to DST, so should the devices clock.
At least I know that this is the case with my TP on Sprint.
Looking for a nice clock or screensaver, preferebly with information displayed like weather, news, feeds, etc... I saw the droiddock one on the market, as well as a couple others, and no disrespect to the developers at all, but I'm just looking for something a little "prettier". I have a Tasker task that dims display, sets timeout for 20min on power connection, and I'd like to launch a dock app as well. And kill it on disconnect( works really well with the Palm Pixi wireless charging mod I did last weekend )
Thanks
Hey guys,
I'm an old WM user but new to WP8. Been on an iPhone hiatus for a few years.
Happy to be back.
Picked up a Lumia 920 and enjoying the device so far.
My question is that I keep seeing the "Location" circle drop down into my status bar every 30-60 minutes. It stays there for about 3 seconds and then goes away.
Any idea what is using my location?
iOS did give a very detailed location management settings screen which showed exactly which apps had location permissions and which apps have used location recently.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I'd suggest having a look into Settings / Background Tasks (you'll have to swipe to the side to see application settings which is where this resides). Any App being able to run in the Background is listed there. I'd check for Apps that might use location frequently in that list but I can't give you a more exact answer.
Do you have the find my phone feature enabled? I'm not sure what the polling rate it, but as the battery dies, it polls more frequently.
I have a cheap 7" tablet that I'd like to setup as a kitchen display. This is how I imagine using it:
1) At 6AM, tablet wakes up display, turn off display at 9AM.
2) AM: display traffic map, similar to the Inrix app.
3) AM: display weather for today
4) At 5PM: tablet wakes up display
5) PM: display weather data for next few days
You get the idea. I want some control over when the display wakes up. I'd also like it to perhaps switch apps like a demo unit - for example, show the weather on the display for 5 seconds, then switch to the traffic map for 30 seconds, then switch back to weather.
I've consider using just the desktop, and simply squeeze a weather widget and a google maps traffic widget in the same screen. But, I'd like the solution to be more extensible. So, later if I decide to display another piece of info, I can just time share the screen.
I think I can use Tasker to turn the display on/off at set times. But, I don't know of a way to make the tablet rotate between two or three different apps.
I might also use the tablet as a recipe book. So, I'd like the weather/traffic display feature to kick in automatically when the tablet stops being used.
This is a single screen theme with several hot spots and features:
Hotspots -
Anywhere over the current conditions opens the designated Weather app.
Anywhere over the next even opens Calendar.
Below the weather conditions (right where Rocketplayer, etc... shows) opens Themer Music Source.
To the immediate right of that opens the selected player directly.
These are important to remember as when music isn't playing, these areas will be blank with the exception of the play icon.
Categories are obvious.
Anywhere on the watch dial (other than the small dials) opens the notification drawer.
The top dial is currently set to open Wifi Analyzer App.
The left dial is currently set to open Better Battery Stats App.
The bottom dial is set to open Alarm.
What the Dials tell you:
Main dial tells the time - obviously.
The bottom dial tells when the next alarm is set for. If no alarm is set, will show midnight as in the picture.
The left dial tells battery level. If plugged in, the hands turn to red.
The Top dial tells reception levels. The hour hand shows Wifi signal strength, the minute hand shows Cell signal strength.
If airplane mode or no signal, the hands will be to the right of Noon so as not to be confused with full signal strength.
