Hi all i've been using this forum to solve my problems with phones for a few mounth now but there's one that i can't ( hence why i joined and the one post count , sorry)
I bought a Hero ( t-mobile ) of ebay and i receive the following message - your sim card does not allow a connection with this network.
( this is with an old T-mobile sim card i had lying around and an 02 sim card ( on contract but shouldn't make a difference if the phone is unlocked? see below ))
I then purchased a Super-xsimIV to unlock the phone to any network (Wanting it on 02) however after many attempts to get the Super-xsim to work i relised that the phone was not supported .
I then decided to buy a code via a website that presumably used a IMEI calculator for an unlock code. I bought one and received it and it allowed the 02 simcard to work(ish!)
However i still receive the error, i have a very stong signal on my present phone with 02 - nokia 5800 so it aint the coverage. I did a bit of digging up on the net and found that the phone could actually be barred via IMEI ( how could i check this ) or that the radio is not functioning properly.
* i know this is illegal, but is there a way to change the IMEI by flashing or another method? I've seen a few tools for the windows mobile OS's but none for the androids.
Sorry if it sound confusing , but any help or suggestions at all are appreciated.
Is your sim too old? Try a recent ie 3UK payg sim.
IMEI change is not encouraged.
As Lord Lucan said, its sounds like a very old sim - get a free 3g one. And I wouldn't recommend changing the IMEI either!
Hi ill try a new sim but the 02 one im trying to use is out of a contract phone ( pay monthly ) that i got in august and it works in my nokia 5800.
sean.... here we are trying to adrress your core problem of mobile data connection. It is only to verify if your data sim has developed any fault.
Sorry i didn't meant to come across ignorant or cocky. I bought a t-mobile sim for 79p and if registers correctly , i then went to the 02 shop and got a new sim. On the 02 sim im still getting the error - could this be due to the new sim needing to be registered etc ( he said 2 -24 for a number transfer )
I think so.
The reason I suggested a 3 USIM to try is because:-
With a H3G sim you can take advantage of free skype calling and WLM for chatting as both require data connection thereby easyway to test data connection without actually paying for it. And its perfectly within H3G guideline.

Hi All
Has anybody managed to get a 3 (Three network) SIM to work on an Orange SPV after SIM unlocking.
I would like to be able to use my other phone's SIM in the Hermes.
All advice appreciated.
Thanx in advance
Asif
Hermes - The Mother of All Mobiles
yes, it works fine
(uk)
Can you get full HSDPA speeds though?
My 3 SIM in my TyTn won't let me go above GPRS as its not my primary phone. So I'm paying for a service I can't use. I've spoken to their CS who basically said, no sorry, you've got to use that Nokia we sent you as your phone.
My T-Mobile SIM out of my 3G data card for my laptop works like a charm.
Guess which contract I'll be ripping up next month? Clue: its not the T-Mobile one.
I have put in a 3 PAYG SIM card and it worked, but I didn't test any calls.
What does happen though is the roaming triangle icon appears if you turn off 3G, which I guess is right because it's technically roaming on Orange (although the network name still says '3')
apparently most of the networks are distributing new sim cars for use with their 3g networks, and because of the upgrades, older sim cards wont work with newer services. my 3g service in the us wont work with an older US at&t card, and they had to give me a new one. so give 3 a call and ask them for a new sim card. say yours got broken or something, otherwise they may charge you. but ask first if they will give you one free first. good luck

I think your problem might be that the 3 hsdpa service you are on is x series. I have asked in their shops about it, because it seems to be the best 3g deal, but they said its only compatible with a few phones made specifically for x series, eg n73. And it cant be used on other phoens because it is a sort of program embedden in the phones, rather then a homepage like vodafone live, which you can just link to.
Hope i have helped, and correct me if im worng

hi guys,
I'm going to France to visit my family this Friday and so I'm thinking of using my HD2 which is a TMOUS model.
My plan is to buy a prepaid sim card with some credit so I can call friends and family while there.
so I'm guessing it's going to work because the difference between the Leo and Leo US is only the size of the RAM, right?
All providers are using GSM 900/1800 and WCDMA 2100 frequencies, is there anything I need to be wary about?
also if any of you can recommend a provider and why, I'd be grateful
thanks in advance
welcome to France
1) make sure your HD2 is SIM unlocked ... if not, no prepaid card will fit your device
2) regarding providers: "les loups ne se mangent pas entre eux" French saying = "wolves don't eat each other" - prepaid card are more expensive than monthly fee which is normal - coverage of the 3 French providers (Orange / SFR / Bouygues) is similar, others are only retailers ... SO ... choose the cheapest!
3) be careful with the data connections if there's no unlimited plan with the prepaid card
Laurent
Haha you're getting me worried about the unlocking thing now lol
I'm running a custom win rom and android all the time so how do I know if my phone is unlocked? (although I assume it is)
Anyway I'll probably just take the cheapest and pass on the 3g
Thx for the input and don't worry I understand french btw :>

CID unlock that allows you to flash any ROM is DEFINITELY NOT SIM unlock
if your phone is branded TMobile = big chances it's SIM lock and accepts ONLY TMobile SIM cards (try it with a friend's SIM card who's not registered TMobile and you'll know)
I successfully SIM unlocked an HTC HD2 via http://www.htccode.com/ for something like US $ 20
cheers
Laurent
Like Lpubv says, you need first Unlock your device to use another SIM Card!
I Know that you can unlock it free by using a goldcard method, but i can't remeber where i seen it!
Moreover it should works cause he's note like the EVO he runs "normal'' network! But i cannot be sure because i never tested it!
Yea I knew my phone was not unlocked so I requested the code directly from t-mobile which I got the day after.
What happened (or actually didn't happen) is that my phone never requested the unlock code when I rebooted with a different SIM card. And so I've never been able to unlock it. Is the unlock process only enabled with stock roms?

to nks2105:
it's NOT ONLY inserting another SIM card ...
it's inserting another SIM card from a different provider!
if you already did this and was not requested to insert a code = big chances your phone be SIM unlocked
anyway ... if you have your TMobile code with you ... no problem ... you won't get stuck!
to G-ThGraf:
unlock with GoldCard???
can you please make a small effort for me ... and remember?
I don't really need to SIM unlock my phone, BUT just for the fun I'd like to be able to do it ... and as I never saw that info ... I'm tremendously curious ...
Yea I guess you're right it has to be a SIM card from a different carrier but that's what I did, I put a SIM card from SFR but still nothing happened

1. Has this situation been occuring since the beginning? I mean , have you ever connected to the network?
2. Is your phone simlocked? If not , I'd suggest you to check if another sim card (preferably another company) works properly. If works , try changing the sim card first.
No Network
Hi,
Im also struggling with the same problem, its most frustrating being without the fundamental function of a mobile phone. Im on O2. It all started when 2.1 updated on my X10, since then my phone doesnt connect to O2 network.
Ive tried removing the sim, cleaning etc. then putting back in.
Tried swapping my sim with a friend (same network), no problem with the sim.
Just tried re-booting my phone (re-updating), no joy.
The last resort i guess before sending it in to O2 is to throw out of the window?
Any ideas?
Thanks
p.s. new HD camera does nothing but 'force close'.
thx for replay
my phone unlocked n and am try another simcard with another company its woks n am check my sim card in another phone its not work
first am got update (change region nomber method) befor 4 days ago n its work with me after update without problem but yesterday am not there is no network
i feel like my sim card banned from virign network so i don't know where is the problem in my sime card or in virgin network but am not feel i have problem in my phone coz its work with another sim card n my sim not work in another phone.

I remember somebody had problems with new iPhone and old original ATT SIM-cards. ATT just gave a new SIM-card - it was a kind of incompability. Maybe you should go to Virgin tech guys and ask them to fix the problem.
I have strange thing with my phone when it was locked - I used old proxy-SIM and it worked fine with 1.6, but after I flashed it up to 2.1 it worked around 16 hours and eventually told me that there is no service - just like yours. Nobody had similar experience, but look like strange things are possible with those really smart phones. After unlocking - no problems for now.

me too i think i have problem with my sim card, am already contacted the service clients but not solution till now !!!!!
i think after update, x10 will made variation of m-voltage which supported to sim cards, so directly burned( if the variation of voltage related with used area of sim-cards ,that's depends on our operators)

I don't think, the X10 can damage SIM-card since SE always targets world market and takes in attention any regional differences. Virgin is not a real carrier, it is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) and uses Orange network as an underlying carrier. The last resort is to claim that you lost you phone (with the SIM card, of course) and ask for replacement. They can charge you (I used to pay $25 for T-Mobile USA in the nearest dealer shop, but didn't do any research since I needed the phone badly).
There is another possibility - as I know, ATT automatically changes the plan for their subscribers to a data-plan that is obviously more expensive as they recognize the new phone as a smartphone. It is weird practice, but see - it is possible, so be sure what's going on with your carrier.
please help me with network problem
i was trying different roms to flash, it was not good enough for me after with recovery i restore my backup original rom but no network, no signal, the sam problem with other roms, i changed sim cards as well no signal, when i make phone call there is a message ( CALL NOT SENT, PLEASE DIAL AN EMERGENCY NUMBER)
PLEASE HELP ME TO BRING BACK MY PHONE
i think you restore you old rom with wrong Baseband so try to search in xda you find which is the match baseband to ur old rom thats all
Okay, so - first off, let me give a quick intro: I am really sorry if I post this in the wrong forum. I AM a noob.
I've been a long time reader (and a very happy user of the great knowlegde base and ROM development here on XDA!) and this is my first post. I'm not anywhere near to be a Linux/Android wizard but on the other hand I have gotten S-off and root on my Wildfire S, have tried different ROMS, link2sd, modified GPS files with root explorer etc. That's kind of my level.
-------
So - now to my question. Please be patient with me, it's hard for me to explain in simple terms and english is not my first language. I WILL get down to facts and numbers.
I've decided to move to a more powerful device and I have just bought a Galaxy S II, bought unlocked from my provider. So basicly all I should have had to do when I got my GS2 in the mail was to pop out the SIM card from my Wildfire S and pop it in the GS2 and it *SHOULD* have been working. Problem is - it works 'kinda'. Yes - it works in the worst way - from time to time. I am puzzled!
I get very bad reception and most times NO reception - no signal.
The SIM card does not get rejected by the phone as if the phone was locked, and if I go outside I CAN get a signal, and I CAN make calls. Sometimes I have been cut off. Now I'm not talking about me not just getting data or GPS signal - I'm talking about 2G GSM signal for just making calls and texting. But outside downtown I HAVE had the H+ sign for data appear and I HAVE downloaded from market with the troubled SIM card.
So one would think that the antenna/modem(?) in the SG2 does not work properly. Well - I got me a pre-paid SIM card from the best covered provider in Denmark. I pop the SIM card in - I get a fine signal. Data and GPS works well, calling and texting - no problem!
I have tried 2 other SIM cards from my provider from friends phones - CBB using the Telenor network - and results are the same. Very poor signal, sometimes no signal.
So here's the facts from inside my appartment in a larger city well covered from several providers in Denmark:
- SIM card from my provider in Wildfire S gives me a signal between -80 and -90 dBm and 10 - 15 asu. All functions work, GPS, 3G data, calls, MMS, texting.
- The same SIM card in the GS2 give me at best around -100 dBm and 5 - 6 asu but often drops to -111 dBm and 1 asu. I have seen -113 dBm. Useless.
- SIM card from another large network provider gives me 80 - 95 dBm and 8 - 15 asu.
- I have checked if the phone is locked - it is *NOT* SIM locked.
Remember - this is all in the same place in the same chair in front of the same table. If my provider had a poor signal Wildfire S should be affected as well.
Can my SIM card from my provider somehow be incompatible with the SG2? I have of course called my provider and explained all of this. They had NO clue why it happened but would mail me a new SIM card before doing repairs.
After a factory reset Wildfire S will pop up and ask me what provider I am using after detecting SIM card (select SIM service prompt). SG2 will do the same thing on the pre-paid SIM card - not on the SIM card from my provider. Does this mean anything to any of you?
Is there a way to determine the type of the SIM card in the phone? I would like to know if the two SIM cards are of different types using different technologies - whatever - so I could determine if the SG2 was not compatible with my providers SIM card.
Model: GT-I9100

If you are still with me this far - thank you very much!
I had a somewhat similar problem that I solved just this morning....
Here in Costa Rica there are now 3 carriers, ICE which is state owned and two private carriers, Movistar and Claro.
I bought my S2 unlocked from a fella that bought it from Claro. The chip I was using was an old GSM chip that I was using in my previous phone. I had data connectivity but it was slow and calls dropped constantly with my chip. I have another phone with a brand new chip and when I would use it all was good. The old chip also had an R on the signal for roaming most of the time, and it always thought it was roaming when I had market enabler programmed to fake at&t so I could get to certain apps.
But this morning I went to my carrier and got a new chip and all is good.
Bottom line, go to your carrier and ask for a new chip. There may be something in the programming not optiized for the phone you have or the current network
Actually, cdzo72 could be right.
Check how old are SIM cards you were using.
Prepaid one should be no older than 1 year, meaning new tech included.
Try to find someone who recently got new contract with same provider U are using (CBB) or at least new/replaced SIM from them.
Few years ago my provider forced me to change SIM card on renewing contract since SIM "is no more fully compatible with new technology in modern mobile phones", whatever that means.
Thank you for your time.
I have a new SIM card waiting for me in the snail mail tomorrow, and I hope that it will work.
My current SIM card is 3 years old, and when I got it, it was on the same occasion as Bodisson - I got a new Nokia, and my old SIM card was not compatible with the new phone.
If this is the case however, I cannot help to think about why my Wildfire S works without any problems at all with the current SIM card. One should think that the two phones use the same technologies.
Oh well - if it doesn't work with a new SIM card the GS2 is in for repairs on monday.
The worst thing is that I have had the phone for 10 days and I feel as I did when I was 8 years old and didn't get a Commodore 64 for christmas! I want to play with my new toy!
Hello everybody,
I am living in Japan and I was tired from my old Sharp smartphone with Android. I fall in love with the Lumia 920 and after many internet research and check that says there is no problem,I decided to buy one. I bought it on Amazon from a company in Hong Kong and the phone comes from Australia.
My provider is Softbank. In order to have LTE, is subscribe to a new Iphone 5 that my wife should use later. But when I put the nano SIM of the Iphone to the Lumia I could not get it working. I have at beginning no signal, when I then set the connection speed from 4G to 3G I get softbank signals but then no data connection.
I also went to (some) Softbank shops, and everytime the staffs told me it's not a Softbank device so it's not working....but I can hardly believe that they lock the SIM for Softbank's devices...in my opinion SIM doesn't recognize the device, does she?
Has anyone of you experience of Lumia in Japan? is there any specific set up to perform?
For the moment I just use the Iphone as tethering for the Lumia...but it's a quite expensive solution and my wife will not agree this as long term solution.
Thank you in advance,

HI,
Are you sure about nano sim or you use an adapter ?
Lumia cannot work with nano sim.
If sim is not recognized you will receive SIM error.
If lumia is sim-locked you will be asked for unlock code if SIM is recognized.

Hello,
Thank you.
Yes actually I use an adapter (and I broke the small pins when pulling out the SIM rack...but that's another story )
The Lumia was sold as SIM free. When I put the first time I didnt get windows to ask the unlocking code...so I guess it's really SIM free.
Then I didn't get the Softbank network...I check in the setting we 4G activated he didn't recognize the Softbank LTE network...but with 3G he could find it. So I think the SIM is recognized and that it's then just a setting issue? or also I saw that some people had issue with different roms??

what pins you broke ? SIM readers pins ?
if this is the case your phone probably don't read the SIM card I have the same issue and have to change the flex cable with the SIM reader.
can you make phone calls when you're running 3g ?
