I bought a SIM Free white Hero from Simply Electronics - all great, except it has SEA firmware - my language options were English (Malaysia), English (Taiwan) etc (You get the idea)
Symbols on keyboards also get the option for Chinese (?) characters, no Market (to my horror) and a few other niggly things.
So, I would rather not root due to that voiding the warranty, but does anybody have any suggestions of what to do?
Surely it's a simply software change?
I tried downloading HTC's latest ROM, said it wasn't suitable for my device?
Or, do I just send it back and go elsewhere? Seems a little drastic.
Thanks for your help
If you want to get it working, you will have to use a Goldcard to bypass the CID check and then you should be able to install a generic WWE ROM.
Regards,
Dave
Apologies for sounding stupid, but is there a tutorial which I could follow to go about this goldcard technique?
Thanks for your time
Yes - there's a sticky in the Android development subforum entitled "[HOWTO] Create a GoldCard".
Regards,
Dave
Found it, thanks http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683
Do I presume from this that a normal rooting process would not work due to the fact it's a SEA ROM?
I've no idea if your ROM has the "perfect" SPL, but since you said you wanted to avoid a rooted ROM, this is your best bet to get to a different "official" HTC ROM.
Regards,
Dave
Oh that's great. Ok, final question I promise (for now at least!)
Seeing as this would still be an official ROM, would it void the HTC warranty still?
Quite probably.
To be honest, if you do practically anything that you see here, it would probably void the warranty
If you can get a backup of your phone before doing anything, you could always restore the phone to the backup image and send it back (presuming you don't do something that wrecks it)
I can't be certain, as I've got the UK model, but I'm pretty sure that doing anything other than putting on the official HTC RUU that they recommend is not 'allowed'. Equally, I'm sure that the warranty is also void if you sneeze near the phone
Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

I'm new to the TYTN and I have a few questions.
Just to note, my device is by Orange-Israel. It has the QTEK_001 CID.
1. If I want only to sim-unlock the device (without installing HardSPL on it or changing anything that will void the warranty, how do I do that?
2. Where can I find the exact change log for any ROM version? I mean, I'd like to know what each version gives my BEFORE I upgrade to it.
3. As my CID is QTEK_001, I understand that I can install all of the HTC WWE versions. why can I find any upgrades on HTC website?
4. If all I want is to install the official HTC versions, why do I need to install the SSPL/HARDSPL (I dont want to install, yet, any cooked/baked ROMs)?
Thanks
Please people, help me out:
How do I unlock the phone without installaing any hacked SPLs?
and where do I get the OFFICIAL HTC updates?

Call your service provider and tell them you need to unlock your phone. Then you won't effect your warranty.
You can't be serious about where to d/l official updates. :-/
From the Official Website!
Also the link below helps me to find answers to a lot lf my questions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298893
Maybe there isn't any official updates yet for Orange-Israel.
I can't help you look right now because I only have my 8525 right now. Maybe tomorrow, when I'm in front of a desktop, I'll see if I can find something.
Heya
Please understand this forum is NOT official support
(however the quality here is probably better )
http://www.orange.co.il/ (your provider)
and
http://www.mea.htc.com/
are probably the best places to ask for rom upgrades.
Good luck

Thanks for your answer.
First, Orange Israel WONT unlock my phone till I finish paying for it (which is 3 more years to go).
Also, they DONT have any updates availble at the moment. But their version is VERY old....
On the HTC website I cant find the ROM updates anywhere.... please send me a link to the ROM updates on HTC website.
Also, do you know where can I get more details about what changed in each version?
Please, if you could please be so kind to read:

Nope, you need to flash the uspl first. Check the sspl/uspl/hardspl thread. It's quite easy, first you put sspl on the phone and run it, then when the phone is in bootloader you flash the uspl. After flashing you can check if it went ok by going into bootloader (check wiki how to do it). If you can confirm that you have uspl, then just flash the new 6.1 original.
There's nothing else to it (it works also on vista). I did it with my t-mobile branded phone.

Thanks for that...I believed that was the case but there is sooo much info on here it was difficult to get to the bottom of it.
I'm not sure I want to do all that...if i brick it I can't afford a new phone so I might just leave it be.
Also, has anyone actually done this with an Touch Dual on Orange UK? does it work? The only confirmed upgrades i've found are on T-Mobile.
It would be a lot easier if Orange just supplied it wouldn't it????

Ok i have a UK version Toch Dual wich i bought here in belgium so it was already unlocked since i could use it on belgium networks. Also it is an unbranded one.
I flashed yesterday the new Official HTC Rom Windows Mobile 6.1 wich went all well no problems with flashing. It is a good rom, faster than the previous one. My question is since it is already unlocked can i flash any custom rom i can find here in the touch dual forum ???
Or do i have to do something witch the Uspl or hardspl ??? what is the different and what are the steps to use it with custom roms???
thanks alot
Hi to everyone,
Which are real advantages to upgrade to WM6.1 ?
Thanks a lot
Hello, I just flashed my Fuze with natf rom (which worked excellent), and now I need to return the phone back to att by mail (touch wheel doesn't work, keyboard freezes). I understand I first flash stock att rom to the phone and then put the stock spl back on it, is this correct? These are the roms I found: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_WM6.1_ROMs
My questions are: The stock att roms on wiki all look like they are for the UK, and I purchased mine in the United States, are these the correct versions I should load? Also, which one do I need to load onto my phone (there's four). And where do i find the spl I need?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
(I scoured the forums, though I'm not all that sure I knew exactly what I was looking for... I'm certain this has been asked before, though I could not find a step by step guide with my specific questions answered, I sincerely apologize for asking again, but I'm at a loss...)

Visit blownfuze.org and scroll down to reverting back to AT&T for warranty. He has everything you need to download and instructions right there. Make sure to say thanks
I've never returned a phone to stock OS before returning. Do you think AT&T has the time or the know-how to actually check each phone for custom builds?
I just tell them the phone's display freaks out like there is a cable loose inside or something... or a key on the keyboard doesn't work.
As long as you tell them there is a hardware error, they have no choice but to return it.
Hello. I have just received a new G2 (aka Hero) on T-mobile UK.
I am planning on doing this, please can you tell me if this would work:
1.Installing a recovery image
2.Booting into recovery and making a Nandroid backup
3.Installing a generic HTC Rom which has been packed into update.zip NB.Rom is a stock rom and therefore not rooted
As I understand after flashing I would lose rooting and would need to root again if I need to. However, I don't need to so am not too bothered.
I am hoping that this would remove T-Mobile branding, but mainly make the phone quicker as it is running the latest ROM. Would this technique work?
I would also like to know wether my sim-lock status would be affected?
Also if Donut/Android 1.6 is released OTA by HTC would my phone update OTA?
Finally, does that mean once I have flashed it, I will not be able to access the recovery partition thing which includes Nandroid etc.?
Please answer my questions and comment if you have any reservations/concerns about this. All comments are much appreciated.
bump-please help
Bit previous with the bump after such a sort time??
To answer your questions:
First of all, as long as your G2 still has the original Hero firmware, you are probably ok with your plan. If you've got the latest firmware, you'll probably have to use the gold card technique.
If you install a generic ROM, you'll lose most the T-Mobile branding, but to be honest there was very little anyway. The T-Mobile splash screen when you switch on will remain though.
SIM-lock has nothing to do with your ROM - it was locked before it will still be locked after you update the ROM, and vice versa.
Finally, on the subject of an OTA, who knows???!!! I really wouldn't worry about it.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks Dave. Does anyone else have anything to say?
new user, similar question.
got myself a T-mobile G2 yesterday, thinking that it's the same thing as HTC Hero. ok, it's only a software difference but now i'm unable to flash it.
software version is 2.73.116.61 which is T-mobile version of course, and comparing version numbers to recent ones it looks really outdated. is it? on T-mobile UK support pages it's even older one. tried to download official version but HTC says there is no support for my device, based on serial number. also tried to flash with newest downloaded from here but no luck, got error 131
so, what can I do? root or goldcard?
thanx
You will need to goldcard to downgrade your ROM, before you'll be able to "upgrade" it to a custom ROM.

Dave

Debranding Optimus Hero (ORANGE)
Hi everyone.
I am an Android rookie, but i am trying to learn more and more each day.
I bought recently a HTC Hero from optimus operator (Portugal) - Orange - and it came with 1.5 version of the OS. There is original 2.1 version but not for my operator.
I already made an goldcard for it, removed simlock, and rooted but now i would like to know step by step what to do?
what rom (original and generic) should i install to have 2.1?
How to do it, with goldcard inside cellphone?
It is possible to go back?
I have read in Q&A that some orange phones, whem the debranding is done, loose the network due to some radio network imcompabilities... how can i know if that is or is not my case?
I would be greatful for all the help someone could give me.
Many thanks
D_Saint
Look at the guides in the android development section of how to root. If the phone is running a very old firmware the likelyhood is that you won't need to downgrade and therefore may not need a goldcard. But basically, you need to root and install a recovery image then you can flash a rom from the hero development section.
EDIT: See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
sorry if this is not the correct place, but I think it is, and sorry for my bad english...
Can I ask you how to make a RUU??
Cause I've got an HTC Sensation, brand vodafone Spain, need the official ruu but can't find it...
Thank you in advance
Unfortunately, one cannot create a RUU, as they are developed by the phone's manufacturer and service provider. They are meant to install stock updates for the phone. Also, depending on the manufacturer, they are hard to find (like HTC's). PM me about the problem and I will see what I can do.
