Help needed with Audio Hack for the Nexus! - Nexus One Android Development

I guess this is development, so here goes:
Ok, some people have repoted success with my Audio Hack on the Nexus whilst some people have reported no change at all.
If my app or the manual hack works for you can you please let me know what ROM you're running, and which version of my hack you used, it would be very helpful
Cheers!

I'll help ...
I'll give her a test whirl in a little bit and report back some solid testing results for you as soon as I can.

i tried every possible combo with the options this morning and i still have nothing. oddly, i get a double screen option on the headphone boost screen. 2 yes and 2 no's. one pair is white the other yes is green and the other no is red.

my results and some information
Meltus,
Do you have a N1 to play with? or are you shooting in the dark (and thus need help)?
Anyhow ...
Some details ...
I implemented via manually pushing the AudioPara4.csv, AudioFilter.csv, & AudioPreProcess.csv files to /system/etc and then rebooting.
I tried both G7_v3r2 and G7_v2r2. Both resulted in (from what I can tell) no change. I did not witness any volume gain or decrease. No distortion. No nothin'. Literally everything appeared unchanged.
Some interesting things I found for you ...
The stock (or shipping) AudioPara4.csv in the Nexus1 (ERD79) is the exact match for all Stock-sapphire-32B(MT3G) ROM's/devices.
Also, AudioPreProcess.csv and AudioFilter.csv are not present on the Nexus1.
Also, the Nexus1 is shipping with a couple new .csv files in the /system/etc directory ... AdieHWCodecSetting.csv & AudioBTID.csv.
That's the results I obtained and the relevant detail I observed. If you need anything else from me in way of producing an audio mod. I'd be happy to assist.

Hmm that's odd, not sure why that happens. could be something to do with the screen resolution.
i'll look into it

Yeah, i'm pretty much guessing at the moment, with help from simms22, but we've still not been able to get the volume hack to work.
It's strange though, some people have reported success whilst most others haven't. And, from checking the logcat when the mediaserver restarts, it loads the AudioPara4.csv fine, so my files should make a difference and the headset boost option should work fine, but it doesn't ><
So far, we've established that the AudioFilter.csv and AudioPreProcess.csv aren't used by the Nexus, but the strange thing is, some of the Nexus firmware dumps which people provided for me include these files and some don't. It seems as if there's 2 versions of the nexus, either that or people added the files in when they sent me the dump.
So, it seems that the nexus loads the AudioPara file, but i'm not sure why as it doesn't do anything. The other 2 files seem to be bluetooth related, so i'm not sure they'll make a difference.
God, this phone's more trouble than it's worth

could it be that the nexus for google employees and the nexus for the public are that different. ive asked around also, no one has that app working on their nexus that i know of. could it be that some people are lying and just saying that it works(to be cool).

Good point, and them lying is a possibility (albeit a strange one ).
This doesn't make much sense to me, i'm gonna speak to some ROM devs and see if they have an answer
Cheers for your help guys!

yea I dunno ... it would certainly be hard to believe that this type of issue would be "intermittent".
This seems to me like an all or nothing affair, in which it really should either work or not. I could be wrong, I've seen stranger things happen, but I really don't see how this would be working for a "select few".

Very true, unless there are 2 different versions (like simms said, maybe one for google employee's), but even if there was, i don't see why they would make it different. (unless they made it different for the public, specifically to stop me doing this, which i highly doubt lol)

My money's on a placebo effect. They get the new file on there, so they're under the impression it sounds better/louder.

Probably. I remember a while ago, quite a few people (myself included) thought that the EQ was affecting the headset but it turned out to be making no difference at all. I would have put money on it too ><

lol..I wanted an EQ so bad I think I convinced myself something was actually happening.

I am not getting the double screen at all. I saw no difference in the volume either with the external speaker or the headphones after installation and setting up V2r2.

Volume Hack
I have the double icons on the headset screen. I haven't had a change in the volume.

Now I could have sworn when I tried it that the volume got worse and then I tried the files on your site the stock ones and it got better but after playing with it continuously for about 3 days I have come to the conclusion it is a placebo effect and nothing more.

For people with mic issue in-call.

I am using StreakDroid 1.6.1 and people were complaining I am whispering into the phone when I am in a call with them. The mic was too soft. So did a little digging around and found some files over at the Hero forums here on xda. Basically, you just gotta copy the 3 files over to /system/etc/.
By default, only one of those files is present in /system/etc/. I opened the files and
saw HTC everywhere. I did a backup of the original file and copied these 3 files anyway and rebooted. Made a test call and my mic is working perfectly now. No issues whatsoever. You can try it if you have similar issues like me. Just make a backup first. Although it works, I'd appreciate if anyone takes a look and clean it up for the Streak. And oh, the usual disclaimer... I am not responsible if this screws up your phone, bankrupts you and/or causes Global Thermonuclear War. Also, mods, I believe this applies to all roms and not just StreakDroid.

Placebo effect, i'm afraid. Those are HTC files and are not used by the streak.
Look at the logcat as you reboot your phone, those files will never be read.

Trust me, they don't do anything.
I worked with these files all last year (Check the "louder volume hack" thread in my sig), they don't work on the Streak. They are for the old HTC audio driver (which has been phased out now, these .csv don't work on ANY phone released after, and including, the Nexus) which the Streak doesn't use. (Even if they did work, audiopreprocess.csv and audiofilter.csv wouldn't do anything to the microphone anyway)
Try doing "killall mediaserver" in adb and watch the logcat. The files aren't read.

I think it was rebooting your phone that sorted your mic out rather than the files
I agree it must have been a reboot, i have the same problem and i have to reboot the entire phone. VERY annoying. Would the louder-volume kernel fix this?
same here
Any help? lets try to ask out master "DJ_STEVE" if he cant help us...nobody can!

He isnt moaning, he was just convincing me they dont work.
What I discovered was that if my Streak was in vibrate mode, then the mic volume was very low.
Hang up, and set the phone to normal and and voila, the caller can actually hear me again.
Not sure if it's related to the widget I use to set to vibrate mode or whether it's the phone. Perhaps I oughta investigate more.
Currently beta testing 1.7.0. It seems to be fixed.

[REF][MOD] Volume Boost

jovy23 over on the T-mobile side of the S4 forums came up with this volume hack.. well maybe hack is a bad word. Its a mod
Anyways, I threw it on mine (manually adb pushed /system/etc/snd_soc_msm/) and its a noticeable difference. (yes it also works btw). I haven't been brave enough to go higher than the moderate, but I figured I'd give it to anyone who wants to go give it a shot.

I don't have bluetooth headphones to test it with sorry. It mentioned in the file that it was updating various speakers and mics alike (not just one) so I could assume that it also boosted the bluetooth volume. Don't hold me to it though.

Hey, not a stupid question. The only stupid question is the one not asked ( regardless of some of the members here... eh hem)
You'll need ADB if you plan on doing it from your computer or you'll need root browser depending on how you want to do it.
Root is required, as you have to modify system folders.
If you don't know what you're doing, I'd recommend getting root browser.
1) Place the two files (snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3, and snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3_auxpcm) on your SD card.
2) Navigate to System/etc/snd_soc_msm and delete the files (snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3...and it's brother) there.
3) Copy and paste the files from your SD card to replace them.
4) Reboot your phone.

Does this work for AOSP as well?
Thanks for the post. Once i finally get around to rooting my S4 Ill have to give this a try. Iv never been great doing mods and stuff. SO hopefully this is pretty easy. Just about the only thing Iv disliked about my S4 is the volume output. Can hardly hear my notifications if im in a place thats not pretty quite.

I haven't seen an AOSP rom for the S4 yet, but I would assume no. The file does not exist at the same location on stock 4.2 ( checked on my GNex prior to typing this). I would venture to say that this is a TW exclusive mod.

Accident Detection App Suggestions

I am currently researching on the Accident Detection and Alert app. The basic purpose of this application would be that if a person gets into an accident then the android smartphone should automatically detect the accident and send a message to the hospital, insurance company and even alert the family/relatives.
Now, I came across several sensors which can be used in the making of the application but I am not sure about them yet. If I get some idea from you people that would be of great help.
Maybe ask OnStar how they did it?
...sorry, I'll leave now. :sly:
Its possible but look at it this way. What if you drop your phone? Or throw it on the bed, the sensors will detect a big amount of movement and therefore it may trigger the app and making it think there is an accident.
But then again it could be adjusted to a higher tolerance so this may not happen, but I don't see how it will go about.
Seems like a good idea though. Notifying to the relatives and or friends. Hopefully someone can get you started. I'm not as good with these kinds of apps.
All I have to say is. Do a bit of research and ask for assistance like right now. Good luck

Thank you so kuch for the support, i seriously need it all i get is crticism
Actually, i was thinking that I would work on the app keeping a couple of sensors in use, such as, the motion and the temperature sensor
I would put a condition of values on both of them sensors and the system would activate only if both the sensors reach that value.

Volume booster

Now we have root, I followed the guide for the G3 for the volume boost mod, and it seems to have worked. I am on the VS986 variant. Follow the link to the OP and thank @spiderio!.....FYI, I changed my values to 90

I believe there was an app that simply did this for the G3 as well. I'd try it if I had a custom recovery, but I'm gonna give this a shot. Thanks!

I felt like the G4 was plenty loud as is, but I still modified a few things to get it slightly louder. Using solid explorer:
Root storage -> system -> etc -> mixer_paths.xml
You'll see: <ctl name="RX1 Digital Volume" value = xx>
Please note that certain variants may have different files. I distinctly remember Verizon G3 users had a different file to modify in order to get the sound louder. This may be the case for specific variants of the G4 as well.
I replaced all the digital volumes, from RX1 to RX8 to 90 and noticed a bit of a difference in everything. I'm not quite sure what each one does specifically, as the G3 had a bit this written out a bit cleaner, but 90 seems like the sweet spot for me in the G4. I scrolled down the entire xml file and couldn't really find anything else helpful (more like skimmed it, others may be able to find something).
Now if only I could get rid of the annoying feature that constantly puts the volume down whenever I put headphones in! Ugh.

Yeah, I'm actually getting annoyed by the G4 and how quiet it is. I've even started considering headphone app options or even a separate MP3 player!
I have Viper installed and it doesn't help enough...
Now, with the 'RX*' lines, I see the large list near the top of the file, but did you also change the ones that are listed throughout under the separate headings/subsections?

I actually did not. Maybe set those values to 95 and give it a whirl. I'd try myself but I'm preoccupied at the moment.

Okay cool, I'll take a poke in a bit. Just researching a bit more as I'm not really interested in getting stuck in boot-loop. lol

I'm quite familiar with modding the mixer_paths.xml (did it on every rom on my LG G2), so I'd be happy to mod one for you. PM me if you need help.
VS986 LG G4
So, as an update... With a shotgun approach to changing values, we have a beautiful volume increase. It's stellar. Both @jesssiii are going to be digging into the file a bit more when we have time and will sort it out better.. It's a bit of trial and error, but with a good idea now.
It seems unlike the G2, jesssiii was able to use my mixer_paths.xml file without problem despite different variants. If anyone would like my terribly messy trial one to test or mess around with you can send me a PM and I'll explain what I've done a bit. Otherwise, as I said, once we have a better idea we'll share a cleaner solution!!
BTW: THIS IS ****ING AWESOME. The problems I have with this phone are slowly melting away with root.

I'm glad someone else found this to be of use other than me. I'll be watching to see what you come up with. Incall volume is the one I'm after.

You may need to poke around a bit then, I don't really speak on the phone often so I'm not testing anything lol.
This file is a lot more complicated than the G2 one. Judging from the other thread I'd start modifying the 'RX* Digital Volume' settings for things with the 'handset' header.
And for everyone else, so people can get a jump on, as who knows when I'm going to have time in next couple weeks...
Here you go!

This is a very scattershot approach, and it may have some unexpected results due to that, because we haven't quite refined it.
I went through and searched 'headphones' and changed many of the 'RX* Digital Volume' up to the number 94 (to make sure it was obvious which I changed). I also changed one 'SPK Amp Volume' from 5 to 8, under a 'speaker-and-headphones' heading. Also near the very top of the file I changed a whole list of 'RX* Digital Volume' values that were in a row.
What I didn't change was anything very clearly referring to something, such as TTY, USB, anything mentioning a KHz, VOIP, etc... But it is easy to find what I did.
The goal was to sit down when I have more time and figured out exactly which of the many are the ones that matter for this case of actually increasing headphones, as we had two more conservative attempts that did nothing at all.
I am using FX File Explorer (with root plugin), and it doesn't seem to have the problem of truncating files or modifying permissions, but it's good to always double check.
Good luck, and feel free to take a shot and share your results.
(I'm not responsible for any problems, don't forget to backup your file and check permissions!)

In-call volume path in the G2 was found here:
Code:
Dont set it too loud as echo will happen. Credit to dr87 for that info.
I haven't had time yet to look for this in my G4 as yet.
Also, I found the changed file linked by usreak above to give distortion at high volume. On the G2 it was said for headphones to only adjust:
Code:
<ctl name="HPHL Volume" value="32" />
<ctl name="HPHR Volume" value="32" />
And for speaker RX7 Digital.
Obviously this all needs more research/experimentation. Thanks @Usraek for your help and work!

Force 18:5 aspect ratio for unoptimized games

As the title says: Is there a way to force games into a 18:5 ratio? Most games don't work properly yet and have visual issues or are simply unplayable. I added 2 less extreme example.
PS: I'm talking about something like Samsungs app scaling settings. This phone is missing this option which is one of the biggest problems right now. Apps are obviously not always optimized for 21:9 yet so this is a neccesity. I hope Sony reacts to it as fast as possible.
Got a typo in the title. Can some moderator change this? That's a thing xda-developers needs to improve.
did you enable developer options and see if you can make any changes in there?

Yeah, couldn't find anything there. Can't check it again right now though, had to send my device in. Can check it again once it's back which will probably take 4-5 days. My speaker crackled a lot, probably a hardware issue.
so, it was defective right out of the box?

Yeah. They got it today so i guess i should have a new (hopefully) working one in 2-3 days max. It's really weird to not have a phone :')
actually, its a good feeling to not be annoyed for a few days with endless meaningless texts/spam phone calls..

Yeah, it just sucks that i'm unable to make some important calls/ hear music/ keep contact with a friend of mine. Makes everyday things much harder. Definitly happy once it's back

There's a software update coming 3/15 that could fix that.

I hope so. Currently waiting for them to either send it back (or to send me a new device). It only occurs in third party apps after all. Maybe my device helped them to find the problem?
didnt get anything on 3-15..anyone else?
