Speaker needed - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Accessories

Hi all
I need an internal (ringtone) speaker for my JASJAM. The ones on eBay (ships from HK) don't do the trick as they all fall short (the wires) by about 5mm. (I purchased 2 of them, at different times.)
I made a mess of them trying to chop and extend the wires... they're really delicate and break easily (when twisted). With the second one, I tried to solder directly without twisting the tips, but the solder wouldn't stick.
I can still try and salvage the second one, but it's beyond my patience, so I was just wondering if anyone has a spare speaker (or can salvage one), or know of any reliable seller that stocks proper speakers (not the ones that fall short)?
Thanks!

How to replace the usb port on T-Mobile Vario

HI,
It appears that the usb port on my t-mobile vario is loose and so it does not charge on the mains charger or via the usb cable on a pc.
So the question is:- How do you open it up to replace / repair the usb port?
I had a look through all the threads I could find dealing with usb port, but none dealt with this particular problem.
A "how to" with pictures would be great, but even a step by step would be useful.
many thanks to all who use and help on this site, without it we would all be worse off!!

Replace USB port
Ok, It appears that no one has had to do this yet, or the ones who have are not online at present.
I have managed to work it out.
There are four torx screws holding the back cover on.
Two are easy to get at, they are the ones near the usb port. The only problem is that they are smaller than a size 4 torx driver!! I managed to get them undone using an ordinary flat blade screwdriver of the right size from a kit of mini flat and cross blade screwdrivers.
When you undo one of them it also holds in place the little metal bit which you use to put a necklace strap thorough - don't lose any bits!!
The next bit was a bit tricky but only because I did not know how it came apart!
There is a cover which goes over the section which has the camera in it. This needs to be "uncliped", you need to start the unclipping from the open end section near the battery, as there are two "prongs" which go in under the end near the sd slot.
There are two more torx screws at this end that need undoing as well.
The next bit is not really difficult but it is if you don't want to mark your case!
You have to "unclip" the back from the middle bit of the phone, it is held in place by clips that go from the back section into the middle section. I started at the bottom end near the usb port and just used the small flat bladed screwdrivers I had to ease the two sections apart.
At this point you will probably find a couple of bit are now loose inside between the two sections. One is a long black piece of plastic which is held in place by the one of the torx screws you removed earlier. Try and remember where it came from as it is easier when you put the case back together to know where it goes, than to try and work it out.
The second bit floating around will be the USB port! (If it has totaly come off like mine had).
Now you will probably see that the soldered joints are white and furry, this is because they are what is called "dry joints".
Now if you have a reasonably steady hand, good eyesight (or a good pair of magnifying glasses or something similar), you can see that there are four "legs" made from the metal cover of the usb port which no doubt will have come loose. These will need to be soldered back on to the circuit board again along with the 5 "TINY" usb wire connections. I had to modify my soldering iron tip with a file to make it small enough not to solder them all together!! Once they are securley soldered back in place, you can put your phone back together again!
I was told by two mobile phone shops I went into here in the UK that the phone would have to be sent back to HTC to be fixed. I fixed mine in a couple of hours......
I also noticed that it is possible to buy a replacement USB port on E-Bay for this phone if yours is to badly damaged or you just want to use a new one.
Well, I hope this is of help to someone.

John

[Q] Revived water-damaged SGS2 (almost - advice needed)

Hi everyone.
<SKIP> (if you don't like reading a lot)
So, I managed to do a very silly thing *slaps own wrist*. After spilling some food on my brand new pair of shorts, I chucked them straight in the washing machine without thinking. After about 5 minutes, I noticed a slight knocking noise coming from the washing machine, and alas, when I dug my hand in the water to try find the culprit item, I pulled out my drenched SGS2.
Now, as any technically-minded person does after such an incident, I immediately pulled out the battery, SIM card and memory card, and went sifting through my kitchen for rice. It was in the sealed bag of rice for about 1.5 weeks, after which I tried to turn it on. It worked! However, the touch screen wasn't responding, so bag into the bag.
Closer to two weeks, I took it out again. This time, everything seemingly worked fine! I did however notice while using the back camera that some residue from the water has stuck onto the rear camera lens. It also took me a while to notice that the bottom microphone isn't working, which defeats the point of having a phone.
Everything else works fine. I took it to a local repair shop (which I'm a bit doubtful of) and they came back to me saying they couldn't do anything.
</SKIP>
So, in conclusion, the bottom microphone isn't working (people can't hear me during calls), and the rear camera lens has residue on it (which can be seen when using the camera):
1) Assuming the warranty is now void due to water damage, do you think I should try my hand at replacing the microphone/USB board on my own? Has anybody done it, and has some pointers? Anyone know a good place to get these?
2) Is anyone aware if the camera area can be broken down to such a point that I can wipe the residue off the lens?
I'm tempted to just take it to another repair shop for them to try - really don't want to go to Samsung though, as they'll likely charge a small fortune.
Thanks for the help in advance,
MrP.

I replaced the earpiece (speaker) in my HTC HD2. It was a pain in the ass to tear down. I imagine that my SG2 would be even harder.
I found the earpiece on ebay for only about $10, and it even came with a few tools needed for the tear down (plastic pry tools). It was not for the faint of heart...meaning that I was stressed to the balls, and wasn't sure until it was over if I had destroyed my phone. So the microphone should be possible to replace, if you're careful and technically inclined.
The camera will also probably need to be replaced (although, you might find otherwise when you take it apart). The good news is that it shouldn't cost more than $20, but I have no idea really...just estimating. Here's a link to a guy's G+ post who did it click me.
If you look on google, you'll find youtube videos about the tear down and how to do it.
I'd watch those first to check the difficulty. I think I've also seen instructions somewhere, but don't remember exactly where.
Good luck. Stay calm and be careful.

Dropped phone many times, now having mic issues

So I dropped my phone on hard concrete a few times without a case a while ago. For the past few months the vibrator has started to die (in and out intermittent issues, weak vibrations) and people can barely hear me in regular phone calls, while speaker phone seems to work fine. My question is, which parts do I replace? I see the flex piece containing the rumbler is available on ebay, but I assume it does not include the bottom mic? Does the bottom mic come with the USB flex (and if so, does the one from the international Galaxy S II work)? Thanks for helping me out, if I truly broke parts on two different flexes from a couple of drops I must be a complete retard.

Not sure about the parts question. Before ordering anything, I'd take it apart and re-seat the connectors. It's possible they are loose from the drop.
There are lots of videos on YouTube showing how do take the phone apart.
Don't buy anything, the problem is, if you take the phone apart by unscrewing the back (7 small screws) There is a little plastic mic cover rubber piece at the bottom. It needs to be seated around the mic and placed in its slot.

[Q] Umeo/ Truesmart Spares

I backed the Truesmart the day after it went live on Kickstarter and now after almost 3/4 of a year later I recieved the two devices i backed.
One was fine but the other had an assambly damage. The antenna cables for GPS and WIFI were broken.
To find the source of the connection problems I had to take of the back of the device and now I was told that I have voided the warranty because of that and will not get an exchange!
So I asked if I could buy the wrist band seperately as a spare part and was given a MAYBE in a few months when there is a service center near where I live.
I doubt that.
Repairing a broken micro coax cable is nearly impossible ( at least for me) so...
Now to my question:
Could anyone of you advise me where I could buy/get such a spare wrist band with the GPS and Wifi antenna inside?
Have already asked the seller of the Z8 device on aliexpress but he said thei are out of stock....
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Holy crap that was most definitely broken at the factory.
posted using my towelrooted Galaxy S5.
Yikes.... not good. Do you have any more pictures of this zoomed out a little? It would be interesting to see how the cables fit into the strap. Are you able to slide them in and out of the strap? I wonder how far they go into the strap? I wonder what shape they are as well (straight? curved? coil?), and what's hidden in the strap (components or antenna plates?)... if it's a simple length of straight wire, and it likely could be, then it would theoretically be possible to yank out and replace with something else.
Also what were the GPS/wifi issues exactly? Were both completely dead or was it an intermittent connection? Did it work better off your wrist rather than on?
I reckon this information will be helpful to other users in case they are suspicious of problems in their own units. For instance, my wifi seems a bit weak and I need to be relatively close to the router for it to work reliably (within 25 feet, I'd say), but I'm not sure if that's because the antenna is pressed against my arm and it's wirelessly noisy around here (it is) or because there is a possible fault.
On mine the antenna leads were glued in after insertion through the case and I am pretty sure the connectors were added, crimped on the ends, after insertion too.
Would be hard to remove and replace without destroying the ends.
I've already swapped bands three times so far. The ends are crimped before attaching the bands then soft sealant is injected into the case holes.
I was contacted about parting out the immersion test unit and found out that it would not have worked properly even if it had survived. Just like the OP the leads were damaged.
They drilled big enough holes in the case to push through the antenna leads with the connectors already on them, then sealed the holes around the wires with that white too ?
OK. I was wrong. Sounds like it would be easier to refit a replacement band than I had imagined. If you could get the band halves...
it's easy
It is quiet easy to change the band. The big holes and the sealant injected there after assembly is also the main cause for water getting into the device.
So that's the thing I would love to get my hands on a wrist band to be able to use the truesmart as intended.
Right now it is just sitting around because the companion app on the ostore really sucks and I still don't get the use of a smartwatch as companion to a phone.
Maybe this changes when I get to use a device with Google wear on it.
This would be good for the truesmart as well but needs an upgrade to at least 4.4 I think.
Until then its waiting again for me and asking around for spare parts at resellers or find someone with a broken truesmart who wants to make at least some money.

LG V30+ audio jack repair/replacement and other

Hey everyone,
I bought a Frankenstein phone, but the audio jack plays only on the left side. There is no way to stick something in there to move the jack to the right a tiny bit. Also the blacked out frame has the paint wore out around the USB and audio jack. Is there a good paint to put on it to cover it up? I use black permanent marker ,but it wears out. I've been looking for a place to repair it locally here in Washington state, but I have not received any emails back. Thanks for your time...
lol what are the chances! I am in WA too lol and had same issue with one of my V30 i bought last week, mine also only played from one side. If i pushed the plug to one side or pulled the plug out very slightly it would play both sides neither was an ideal solution for me. I used a can of air to clean jack opening first, then i removed most cotton from a Q-tip and used the Q-tip to try clean the jack from inside, neither worked at first but then i pushed in the plug fast by placing the plug in jack (without pushing it all the way in) and hitting it with hand to fast-push it in couple of times, it probably dislodged the dirt or lint stuck in there and it started working. Sometimes a piece of lint or other stuff can get stuck in there or cover the connections and plug doesn't make full connection anymore. Just make sure that you don't use a pin or needle to try clean inside the jack as you will probably break or damage the connections inside.
In your case it could be same or something else entirely but I suggest you try fixing yourself first because getting it repaired will cost you $50-100 or even more. These phones are not easy to open or attempt DIY repairs on.
As far as the paint chipping off, you could buy paint from a hobby shop like one in Redmond (HobbyTown USA), they sell small spray paint cans, you could use tape or stickers to cover the rest of phone and spray the worn out area with matching paint. Or just use a nice case that covers most of the affected area.
Lol that is a coincidence.. I'll try cleaning it out and see. Did you happen to buy yours off of eBay from a seller in Texas? Thanks for the reply
