Have just bought an Hero 3000mAh battery and larger cover for £14.99 uk (free postage too) for a test. Will report back as to performance since it has just arrived and am in process of charging.
Only downside so far is thicker cover is black, but that is puerly a cosmetic factor and doesn't bother me too much. Am hoping that this will give me better than a days charge with Android 2.1 ROMs.

I have just purchased one as well after seeing this post, Will hopefully be ok.
Initial impressions of the battery seem to be positive (pun intended). Had a slight worry when battery indicator dropped a single bar within an hour, 20 hours later and indicator is still sat at one bar from full.
Am still on my first charge and expect the battery to reach it's full potential (another pun) after a couple of charges. So far am very pleased with value of this battery and the charge it holds.

Bit difficult for me to take photos at the moment, my camera is mounted up for my work and takes ages to set back up. The battery cover adds about 6mm to the depth of the phone in an area equal to the size of the battery. I actually have big hands and find it more comfortable to hold than the standard cover.

3000mAh is the capacity of the battery it should run for longer, not the voltage supplied so no damage should occur. The problem comes with quality control on aftermarket batteries, they can be of lower capacity than a standard battery, despite claims of a higher capacity.
There have also been cases of aftermarket batteries overheating and expoding, it is rare but can happen. I bought the battery as an experiment to see if it lived up to the claims and am prepared to take the small risk of serious hazards with the battery. In the end it's down to paying for a name and strict quality control, Kellogs Cornflakes or Unbranded Breakfast Crunchies.

One thing I have noticed about charging this battery, is that the indicator will show battery as fully charged. I found that giving an extra hour after fully charged is shown will give a much better charge. So far the battery will give a good 36Hrs with Wifi continually on, haven't tried it with WiFi off for a long period, so far about 12hrs and it is still showing fully charged.

I bought one of this too, off Ebay. Although the phone is a bit uglier and slightly heavier, the battery seems to last between 2 and 3 times as long. I gotta say it's totally been worth it. The extra size isn't that noticable either...most people look at the front, right?
Well i bought one and i rly dont like it.
Its almost a half centimeter bigger and allot heavier.
So be ware the phone does get ugly but you do get more battery power.
Tbh i rather recharge my phone everyday then make it so ugly

I have this battery + cover too.
Because it's bigger, I find it easier to press the hardware buttons on the bottom of the front of the Hero. THe only drawback is the total volume in your pocket, but that's just a minor point.
Also, flashing Modaco's 3.1 Rom and the newest RADIO Rom, the phone lasts for about 6-7 days with normal use (wifi/3g on when i need it, some regular phonecalls/texts)

Although very bulky the battery life boost is amazing. My friend has this phone (I don't have one yet, i just sold my 8125) and I have indeed tested it for myself. The battery will last you 10 hours before it hits 80% battery life. With these ten hours I was able to web browse, text message, use agile messanger, playing Doom 3D, Warcraft II, Sim City, Play music at 45% volume. at 60% batterylife I it had been over 25 hours already. With you constantly using 3G, push email and such Id probably say you can get a minimum of 35 hours of battery life with this battery. If you are not so hardcore You probably will get over 50 hours of battery life with this battery. The stock battery for the 8525 is 1350 mAh, and this one is 1500 mAh, this battery won't improve your battery situations much at all but it is cheaper than the option of buying one from HTC or cingular. You can get both the stock battery and this one and have them both charged to last you however long you need. Although a tight fit it still fits in the battery comparment and works with the 8525. 8/10

Well, I got my Lion 300mAh battery and I have to say I'm pleased overall! I'm still breaking it in but so far it has lasted a complete day with Wi-Fi on and a hour worth of movie watching. It came very nicely packaged from the company - it also has a 6 month warranty according to the paperwork. The battery is approx. twice as big as the OEM battery. My biggest complaint is the battery door doesn't fit quite as snug as the original... near the camera it has a chamfered edge instead of the rounded edge on the OEM door. Also, there is slightly more clearance to the left and right than the other door. After a week when the battery is broke in, I'll give a proper update on battery life (Lion recommends 5 complete charge/discharge cycles for maximum capacity). I have several pictures of it, but I can't figure out how to post them here ><

Well after a few days following their recommendation on the complete charge/discharge cycle, I can safely say it is an excellent battery! At the end of work, I'm at 80% charge still. With the same usage before, it was always between 30 and 20 giving me low battery warnings. I DEFINITELY recommend the 3000!

I've had the 1500 battery for about a week. I cannot tell any difference between this one and the stock batter but for the fact that I have to use scotch tape to keep the back on. I used the Lion battery on my i730, but hated the size. I am ready to deal with the size due to the fact that I cannot deal with the shortness of battery life.

I Second the good rating of the 3000mAh Mugen Power Battery.
I bought it for my HTC TyTN from the Netherlands and alhough it bulges to double the size of the standard battery from the back plate - I like it though; gives me better grip on the slippery phone! - it gives me looong life compared to the standard issue (1350 mAh).
As noted earlier, along the sides the extended back plate does not fit 100% snugly, with a (very) minute gap on both sides. But not enough for the back plate to come loose though. Plus the edges (the rubber stopper at back - the antennae socket) is not smoothly cambered. Nothing a nail file couldn't fix though.

Hi,
I have about 3 months with my TyTN and I can see that battery life has been reduced. Battery duration is decreased and charge time I guess that is reduced too. Is there a known battery calibration problem or this is a normal behaviour for a 3 months old battery???

Because I am on holiday I had a chance to do a controlled test of the battery. I charged the standard battery, turned on the phone and made one call a day to just make sure its still working. I also forced the band into gsm only. My battery lasted 7 days from full to flat. I then did the same thing being only in umts and I got 3 days only. The test is controlled because I did not physically move the device at all in that time, so signal strength and tower searching would be kept constant.
I think that is pretty clear the 3g is the killer. The dopod 838 pro lasted longer than my magician would have under the same sircumstances.

I just got this battery from Lionbattery and it is emazing. I use to get about 15 hrs with standard batter. With this one I get 48 hrs, it is really worth it for me. I only had the battery for 3 days thus far.

well, as what most people said - the back cover that came with the battery doesnt fit snugly into the unit. there is a outcrop on the seams (much like a bulge if you were too tight a pants)...
question, though - it says on the label that i should initially charge and discharge it between 3 to 5 fives to maintain the noted capacity... what does it mean? that i cannot use it until ive gone through 3 cycles?
also - how does one full discharge the device? i mean, doesnt the device turn off automatically after some set of seconds? how can i keep it ON the entire time?

The whole "Lithium batteries has no memory" thing is really a myth. All batteries have a memory. The Lithiums are just way, way better at forming a false memory than Ni-Cads or even Nmh batteries. The lithiums are so good, in fact, that you can treat them as if they have no memory.
Anyway, to train the battery intially, put it through 3-5 full charge/discharge cycles. I do it with normal usage. Charge it till it is full and then use it until it shuts off. Repeat. The hard part (at least for me) is not plugging it into a USB for syncing or for modding the thing... cause that'll charge it, and you don't want to apply any charge (if possible) for those first 3-5 cycles. When I get the first battery alarm, I'll back the phone up just incase, then keep going.
Also, I've heard it was important that once you start charging it, you don't stop until it is fully charged again. ie, don't unplug it from the wall to make a call... go over to the wall and make the call while it is plugged in.

Li-Ion's do not have memory. They have a drastic drop once they go under a certain point of discharge.
I have the 2800 mAh, it works great and after a full day of use I have about 40% battery life.
-2 hrs on phone
-40 emails
-random web browsing
-Turn 3G and WiFi off when not used.
So you can see from the stock 1300 mAh which would last me about 9 hrs this is a HUGE step in the right direction.
Mine was on ebay for 30 bones with car charger, and Wall charger.

The two batteries were wrapped by a fake nokia sticker. When I removed the sticker, I found inside the REAL size of the battery. It was a small 850mAH battery inside a plastic frame with a sticker claiming it was 1350mAH
So on eBay you'll find 2800mAH or 3000!!!... for only 20$ or something... but they are totally fake.
Or at least, they'll SUCK big time
I still used those two fake batteries, and one of them randomly shuts down my phone even if it's still full. The other one will drop to 1 bar of battery, then spike back up.. then drop.

Great information and I am glad to hear that I don't need to cylce through charge and discharge in order to get good performance out of the battery. I have cycled my new battery twice but I am not going to do it anymore. According to the information from above site, the battery last longer on partial charge.

I bought a 2800 mah battery for my 8525 off ebay from a cheap vendor and i admit it did give me more power but on closer inspection when i cracked the pack open it was two 1100mah wired together. I know this because they were stamped with 1100mah lol. Im still using it until this day but you truely get what you pay for. I would take the advice and buy from a reputable vendor or.... take my knowledge if you want a 2200 mah battery for 15-20 bucks.
I got an extended battery 2850mah from ebay. Initially it is no better than the regular battery.Then after a few cycles (5X) when I check my SPB battery meter which indicates the approx run time in hours it comes to 10 hours +! with the regular battery it only goes 3-4 hours. In terms of percent it stays at 100% longer.

I bought a 2800 from 360wireless on ebay and have had it for almost a month. It certainly has doubled my usage, so with random surfing on 3G/HSDPA (roughly an hour or so of solid surfing), a keepalive connection on my IM program (on E/G for battery purposes), screen dimming after 30 seconds, and about 10 emails a day and 50-100 chat messages, I'm at about 50% at the end of my day.
I'm good with that. I don't need to open it and inspect it. If it's 2 batteries put together, as long as it does the job, I'm good.

I got this as well and it's on its way. I hope to simply rotate them well enough that I get good longevity between the three (the two from this purchase and the OEM one).
i also got them they seem to work just fine
I trust that these batteries will work just as well as the OEM one...in terms of both battery life and overall longevity. Based mostly on the fact it's a US based company.
Unlike those HK ones...that sell for cheaper...but they're lucky to even hold a normal charge for like 3 months. Basically, we get what we pay for...more often than not.
I just ordered this off of Amazon. I figured for the low price it was worth the risk.
I've had them since Note Day #1 (2/17) and they are def worth the money. I just can't say how long they hold a charge, since I haven't kept track yet. My guess is that they don't last quite as long as an oem batt. But they don't seem horrendous and 2 batts and a charger to your door for about $30 is hard to not be happy with.

I had an issue with mine today...
Left a battery on the charger overnight and got up and the light showing it was still charging the next morning....Tried another battery and over 4 hours later, the same thing happened...Put another battery in there, and within an hour (battery wasn't empty), it turned blue letting me know charge was complete (and phone showed 100%).
Got another one in there now and it's been there for about 2 hours, and the light shows it's still charging.
Is there a charger out there that has a display so you can tell what's going on??

I think the charger is the issue...not the batteries...
Take a look at this calculator:

The charger this comes with outputs DC4.2V~350mA~±50mA. Using the link to the calculator above, you should expect a 2600mAh battery to fully charge with this charger in about 9 HOURS!!

That charger charges at 550MA(MAX). That should take 5.37 hours at best. Still a far cry from the 1000mA that the stock charger uses.

I was under the impression (maybe mistakenly!!) that for the first few charge cycles of a battery, you wanted to fully discharge and charge it...then after that...you can you can go back to the 75% rule.
At least that's the way it is with Lithium Poly Batteries.

It would be nice to get an update from those who bought these batteries 8, 10 or 12 months ago... to see how they held up.
I've been researching Hyperion and I've found quite mixed reviews... Several places I found photos (obviously can't be truly verified) of Hyperion batteries with the labels peeled back to reveal the metal shells which appeared to be stamped/marked (presumably by the ORIGINAL manufacturer) with different product ID codes, serial #s, as well as significantly lower mAh ratings than Hyperion's outer sticker.
I'm curious if any of those who started this thread still have their batteries... How have they held up? Are they still good?
Does anyone still have one of these batteries that they're no longer using? Would you be willing to try stripping back the label to check to see what you find under it...
I do believe that there probably are some companies that actually do make good, less expensive alternatives. But the scammers need to be exposed...

good luck budy...i hope your phone dont die or that battery dont explode...is a well known battery and some people have a lot of problems with that...
i dont recomend that kind of battery...is way better spend more 5/10 bucks for original one and have two battery's.

My SOT is so bad. I just installed a mod to increase the battery life. Let's hope that works.

AnTuTu Battery Results....
After my second full charge, i ran the AnTuTu Battery Tester, and lets just say it didnt like this battery at all. I will continue to use it for the rest of the week, and see how it performs on a more with my normal day-to-day usage. I will also post another benchmark on the original battery after a full year of usage, and see how it compares to the new one.

Don't believe what the knock off batteries say. There's no way they can fit more battery into the same size as the original without dumping millions into R&D to create a new type of battery.
....after a week of usage, buyer beware...lol, you get what you pay for I guess. really just a sub-par battery, and I will now be using as power bank replacement...and continue using the ORIGINAL battery which came with the device...lol, $9 for a power bank ok i guess... Just Buy the Real Stuff people.

Yeeeeeep, the cheapo batteries off ebay always overstate the mah of the battery, and after a few months begin to degrade very rapidly, and your battery life will be worse.

Hi, thats not correct. First, the companys dont invest millions in this batterys. We have the same technic in the g4 as it was in the g2.
Second, sure its possible to get more mah in a pack with the same size.
To get more with the same size, the distance between the celles get smaller.
So they bring in more cells in the same size.
But the problem is that 500mah is nothing.
With standard 3000mah we take a number of 3 hours SOT.
If we count simple, we get from 500mah the power for only 30min.
To get the full power of a battery its recommend to make around 5 to 8 full loading phases. In this time the battery is the same or a little less than the original.
Is the loading phase complete, we get like count around 30min more.
If the screen is brighter or you write a sms more then normal the min go down.
So, i would say thats normaly its not measurable but its really more power inside.
I buy alwasy cheap batterys and had never problems. All manufacterer of batterys buy the cells from 3 or 4 big companies. Inside is all the same.

i have used cheape batteries from ebay amazon ect.......
after 2 batteries my motherboard died !!!! and even befor that my device have said many times battery invailed and wont power on because the contact (piece tgat contact the battery and suply the power) wasn't recaching into the cheap battery

how long is the battery lasting if you are only going down to 50 and up to 90?
Gees! Below 50% really. I would tend to agree somewhat. I never let my phone fall below 20% and usually charge until 97% more or less. But 90-50. I don't want to be walking around with a battery back. I need my phone to last all day and 40% of the battery just won't cut it.
Xuck that !! I have a 3000mah battery for a reason if it goes then it goes ill most likely have another phone by then.Not gonna sit here to nickel and dime my usage that's not why I got this phone .
GM makes the Li batteries last in the volt and bolt 10 years by not letting the car drain the batteries more than 2/3rds down, leaving the batteries at 1/3rd charge. Tesla does it too.

Nah, I don't own my phones for more than a year so this doesn't apply to me. I'd rather keep using it from 100-1 just like I've been doing for years. I wouldn't be able to stand only getting an hour of use and charging it 3 times a day.
This battery information applies to all devices that use this type of battery be they Samsung or other brands. Its not just the Note 8. It applies equally to your Oral-B tooth brush! :laugh:

this is a good habit to charge often at 50%. i usually let the battery run down to like 20% or less then charge. then when i have to go somewhere and i cant play with my phone anymore cus i worry i going to run down the battery.
Question are the "300-2500" charge cycles just as it says? I mean if I put it on the charger in the car for a 10 minute drive is that a cycle along with an overnight charge? If it is we should really only be putting it on the charger from the 50-90% with a guaranteed fast charge time of at least 30+mins to get the maximum charge cycles for the lifespan?

This was a really well written down to earth article about battery care. Thank you. I still have friends, family, and coworkers that insist on running their batteries to 0%. I can't convince them otherwise. Although my batteries degrade, it's never been anything easy shattering. Just notice an hour or two shaved of over a couple years life. As the article states, there is no way around this and I won't be a slave to my battery. In that note, I top off when I can.
My battery on my old phone tended to get to around the 40% at the end fo the work day, then I'd plug it in usually around the 20-30% and it still lasted 2+ years 'til I got a new battery. Now it's about 50% at the end of the day. But with Fast Charge, what do they expect people to do, plug it in for an hour, then unplug it, then go to sleep, wake up with 60% battery, go to work and then charge it for an hour when you get there?
The lie of requiring a non replaceable battery for water proofing is also an issue. Forced obsolescence sucks....

Too black and white.
It is possible to offer some water resistance to a mobile that has a removable battery, S5 for eg.
In general such water resistance is small and is often abused by the owner causing problems. Hardly any owner reads the instruction manual that outlines what ones device can and cannot do, what the IP rating means in REAL terms etc
"Forced obsolescence" mmmmm, a battery can be changed in the Note 8. I understand your point though.

Totaly agree......
We then have to ask 'ourselves' WHY! Who forced Mobile brands to make anorexic devices? WE DID. We wanted thin small large wide slim ...........we got it and now pay the price.
I personally don't care if the device is thicker with a larger battery, for me its not a problem. For so many size was a major issue so the manufacture's listened and came up with these ultra thin mobiles that are vulnerable to dropping and breaking etc. off topic.
I find it totally bizarre that we spend mega bucks on such devices only to find we are educated to use them on software that reduces said mobile to the performance of a phone costing 100€! I may add many posters where disappointed when the Note 8 didn't have a 4k screen! Can you imagine the battery issues then?
Now we read this Samsung article and find we would need to charge our mobile several times a day as well as run it on a vastly reduced software programme. In reality that article is saying the battery is only operating efficiently at 40% of its total capacity before we start to degrade its life! Its all so absurd. What are we doing here folks?
Only one answer to this, either drop the performance OR vastly improve battery technology and fast.

I'm not sure how usefull this is for the new samsung phones though, as the release of the S8 Samsung improved the battery.
Samsung Mobile R&D VP Bookeun Oh told me, "I focused on maintaining the durability of the battery over the long term, over hundreds of charging cycles. For example, after approximately six months of normal usage, the battery in the S8 will outperform previous batteries. While most batteries hold about 80 percent of their charge after two years in usual cases, this battery should be capable of 95 percent of its original capacity."

I am sorry but i will use my phone all day and charge overnight. If you can't use past 50% what is the point???? My pixel xl i have had since day 1 and use all day everyday and charge overnight and noticed no real decrease in battery life except a little change with oreo!
Outdated info and not necessary.
0% on your device is still considerably above what is considered the bottom line cell voltage before excessive discharge detrimental affects capacity.
A lot of engineering has gone into these devices to squeeze every possible mAh out of the packs, have a decent life expectancy AND operate safely. There is no need to strive for certain numbers and forcibly change your usage habits. There may or may not be a demonstrably better result long term but honestly is it worth worrying about?
And for removable packs...
Forget it. That's a thing of the past.
If devices had battery life like the Skyrocket, sure I see the NEED for a swappable pack.
But not now.
Having a sealed device makes it feel solid and keeps intrusion protection intact.
Holding an older device in hand, it seems almost laughable today. It creaks and groans and feels super cheap in comparison like some dollar store toy!
