Okay, I started this project about a month ago and I never really got into it. Now that I have some spare time I decided to continue.
I'm writing a program to download the latest CyanogenMod or TheOfficial Nexus ROM. After that you will choose what you want in the ROM (eg. wifi tether, Amazon MP3, Spare Parts)
Once you decide what you want in the ROM the program will remove whatever you do not want and rebuild it for you. After you rebuild it, it will give you the option allow the program to move it to your sdcard and even reboot your phone into recovery where you can perform a Nandroid and apply the ROM yourself (I will not write the program to apply the ROM because it's not really a good idea).
The program will be free of charge and you can download it and install it directly on your computer. (Windows only, sorry)
Now this sounds a LOT easier than it really is so if anybody has any experience with C# let me know if you want to help. Send me an email at [myscreenname] gmail com. Please do not email or chat me unless you're wanting to help develop the code. When I need testers I will let you know.

Q & A
Q: How is this different than Modaco's ROM kitchen?
A: Mine is software, installs on your computer with updates, and it will be free.
It's not exactly the same thing but close.
No hard feelings Modaco, don't take it personal.
Q: When will it release?
A: I can't tell you a date or a specific time but I'm working on it and I will post it the minute I think it's stable enough to pass out.
Q: Will it work on Linux or Mac?
A: Originally no, but I've had some ideas come in about Mac so I'll let you know

Thanks for you efforts. I Don agree with modaco charging for something that has been free to access. What if xda forum started charging to access this site? It would kill the spirit of what most Tom chefs do here. Smh.
Sheesh, you guys don't read, or something.
He doesnt charge for access to his ROMs. But he offers his subscribers the benefit of being able to customize their ROMs to their liking, pre-flash. The "base" install without customizations are, and always have been, available for free.
Wow!
Any idea of a release date?
I can see a new section of the cm website coming soon ..............
Will you already need to be rooted for this program to work or will this be a graphical program that will also root the phone? Thanks
Looking forward to this, i will definitely contribute to your cause.
I will also volunteer to beta test for you, as well as donate for a copy of the final product. I think its awesome you're doing this.
And, as a guy who tri-boots Fedora, OSX and Win7, I feel you on the "I only write Windows stuff".
However, you should check into this tool, to make what you're writing at least cross-platform for Mac. And, its totally free (and no, I don't work for them).

You don't need a Mac to deploy to one. This is basically an IDE with a Cocoa compiler as well as a .NET compiler.
Kind of similar to how Visual Studio translates whatever language you're writing in to MSIL before compiling, but on a broader scale.

The first is the Home Plug-in used by the Touch. It shows the Weather etc. You
The second is a Music Plug-in
The third is a X-Button program. It's button appears at the top right of the today screen. One can close all programs or any one running program easily.
There's also a streaming video cab which lets one watch YouTube on the Titan. This website would not let me upload it. Search for it elsewhere. It's labeled as follows: RvBCrS_HTC_Streaming_Media

Does anyone know how to make the Weather in Fahrenheit and not Celcius?
What is the difference in the X-button cabs. Some are 120kb and some are 240K? I installed version 1 of x-button and had to hard reset my Mogul. I want to make sure the version and size of the Cab are correct.

I'm not sure. I've never bought anything from marketplace. Please give me the URL of the site. What file format is the music in .wma?
I downloaded a song from Sprint and was wondering how to play it on my laptop. The .koz files are supposed to be really compact. However, I'd like to play them on my laptop. Sprint's music store's offerings aren't bad. However, after logging in on my PC, I cannot get to their music store. I've talked with two techies who say they'll fix the link between my account and the music store. So far - No go. At one time, Sprint supposed let you download an mp3 or wma to play on your laptop.

This one is almost two years old, and I think there are updated versions of each of these programs.
Yea I am starting to think this person is begging for problems.. Here is a post from the Titan/Titan subforum.
He revived yet another post from the grave for no particular reason. What he doesnt realize is that people may actually use the software/information in these old threads and then have to uninstall and install again once locating the newer versions or information. Thats simply not cool.. Even though its not that big of a deal, this place isnt for fooling around.
Please appreciate that this forum has been open that long and prospering. And that XDA still keeps your threads/posts around for years to come. Dont abuse or make fun of the fact that they provide us with those resources.
Cheers XDA

No one is saying that you cannot post that; it is merely a question of advisability of reviving a 2 year old thread and bringing outdated applications back to the foreground of the forums.
New users are attracted to the smartphone/pdaphone scene every day, and this website is one of the more prevalent sources of information. Old apps that may or may not work are just going to create problems for newer users if they do not work; and add more unnecessary questions being asked in the forums. When validating a new configuration, it is best to use the latest components that are available unless there is a specific reason for using older components; weather its on a pda or otherwise. New users don't always think of that, or think to search for a newer version, but instead post complaining that X component does not work and ask how to fix it. Leaving things like this buried saves those problems.
And if you like a application or enhancement that much it is not difficult to look for the most updated version you can find, state that its a great app, state that you have posted the most updated version available to you, and state the relavant revisions of radio firmware or OS rom you have validated the component on.

Hi guys, kind of confused with the build numbers, which build is the newest build for WM 6.5 that I can use with my Titan? Any good ROM suggestions on that build? Thanks guys.
Watch this fourm...
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=54678
The moment a new build is released, they post about it there. The newest as of today (not sure if they have released a rom for the titan yet) is 21812 but, it seems to change every other day
I've been running 21806 the last few days and it has been great so far.
LOL, 21812 is already out!
Yeah I saw that less than a day after I had my phone how I wanted it. Ugh... it's like waiting for the new CPU or new car model to be released.
I have a question. How are the 6.5 ROM's obtained exactly? I'd like to start getting involved, cooking, etc. Currently running 21812, but don't care for the RAM and battery meters, or the "fave people" plugin.

I guess this sort of answers my question.

Are you asking on how to create your own rom ? I'm also looking for the way to create my own rom and figure out how to troubleshoot problems with them. A lot of rom creators use PPCkitchen to create there roms by putting in the files for the new builds then building it on there and there is other kitchens for some builds as well.
Where they are coming from ? Chinese or Japanese sites, I forget the link, they have them all listed there, it tends to pop up from those sites, then trickles down to ppcgeeks, then to xda... With some searching in that fourm I linked before, you'll see links to the builds on there.

Thanks. Will try that.
So these roms still do not work with the camera? I remember reading about it. Is it worth it? I know you have even less memory on startup. I just wish 6.1 would be able to use the marketplace.

They certainly do work with the camera. There are two modes, though:
High Memory Mode -> You cannot use the camera, but you gain an addition 5ish meg of RAM.
Low Memory Mode -> You can use your camera, but RAM is lower.
You can switch back and forth at will with a simple utility in your Settings menu and then soft resetting.
Oh wow that is cool. Hmmm. Maybe I will wait for development when fellow xda members can update an os without clearing any data. But hearing that is tempting. I would probably just leave the camera on. Maybe someone should make a new lighter camera for that mode. In the mean time I will look for some WM6.5 on Titan videos.

Hey Guys,
I'd like to get involved with making Android ROMs as well. I have a Droid and would LOVE to make my own Droid ROMs . I am already a student software developer so I don't mind getting into the nitty gritty, in fact, the deeper the better, so I can fully learn how to build and work with Android. I also hope to be able to make Android apps eventually too. I know Java and Perl fairly well and have recently started C and C++.
Any suggestions for where to start would be greatly appreciated, i.e. tutorials, videos, guides, what languages I need to know, what tools I should use (eclipse, etc., with what plugins, etc.). Thanks a bunch, and let me know if you guys have ideas for apps you'd like to see on the Market .

i am trying to compile from aosp. since i have no programming experience at all, it is a slow learning process so far. my ubuntu has redo and git running perfect now. i have eclipse working but have not used it at all yet. androidsdk 2.2 adb is fine but fastboot is a hassle.
so far, two froyo alphas both flashed but buggy. not one decent tutorial that makes the kernel compile/framework/gapps process clear
My AOSP 2.2 for passion/n1 alpha2 is pretty darn solid now. It took mushing together instructions from 5 incomplete tutorials to fill in the blanks.
What a great feeling to have a ROM not kanged. The Repo/Git tool has gotten easy to use after several long sessions using it in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
Anyone on the same OS, I suggest you research and install both Java 1.5 & 1.6 and get use to switching between the two. Also, I have not yet used Eclipse but it isinstalled and it works with SDK.
The Android Open Source site does a decent job of walking you through Repo...Git...and getting the source. After getting that far, I stumbled through setting up a "vendor tree" and looking through all the folders and files to see what it was all about. Much of it was totally over my head. But after attempting several crap builds, the "compile" process is sinking in a bit.

for getting source to compile ^^^
I compiled my first ROM from source FRF91 for N1 w/root su+busybox+de-odex+gapps. The time of my AOSP -b master sync was around 9:00a pst, 07/10/10. This is not a "kang" of Modaco or CyanogenMod but I credit both and all teamdouche since I regularly need to look into their work to teach myself. Thank you dferreira and jr33 for not flaming my many noob questions and also thanks to dsixda for his reqularly updated android kitchen.
I still can't do much customizing and adding features because I still have to get better at too many things...sorry. Feel free to report bugs and I hope some of you could tell me how to fix simple things or add features by directing me to resources.
I am using themes by micromod777 for FRF91 that do work on this ROM.
Added:
Original Boot Animation (aka Holiday)
APN list
Trackball wake/unlock (crimsondr)
NFL app (jlevy73)
AccuWeather widget (allows multiple locations)
Logger app (michael.novakjr)

How about compiling Stk.apk and extract the dictionaries from the LatinIMEGoogle.apk and putting them in the corresponding locations in your LatinIME source. That will get you more layouts than the Google keyboard and still all the features since they have now been included in the AOSP version. The Stk.apk (SIM Toolkit) is also useful for a lot of people, and only work AOSP based roms, and might possibly drive more people towards this rom if they want the stock experiance.
It should simply be a matter of running 'make -j4 LatinIME' and 'make -j4 Stk' with the -j flagset to your number of cores + 1 or 2.

I don't know how many chefs read this side of the forum, but I know I'll get my hand slapped for posting this in the development side.
But now that Swype beta is available to pretty much everyone, why are we including the stock version anymore? Everyone seems to do it, and it's difficult to remove to install the beta.
It's obvious that the old version doesn't play nice with Gingerbread's text selection process, and the new version has solved that issue.
Can anyone explain why we're still including an almost useless version?

I don't know how many chefs read this side of the forum, but I know I'll get my hand slapped for posting this in the development side.
But now that Swype beta is available to pretty much everyone, why are we including the stock version anymore? Everyone seems to do it, and it's difficult to remove to install the beta.
It's obvious that the old version doesn't play nice with Gingerbread's text selection process, and the new version has solved that issue.

I can cook you up a straight stock rom without it. It's only an apk you can uninstall with tb

Thank you, but that's not really the point. I can remove it from any ROM, just asking why we're bothering to include something that generally doesn't work with our version of the OS.

its included because its the only authorized version allowed to be distributed by the manufacturer, if the developer ( the Rom maker ) included it, swype could get pissed and ask for a take down. you need to sign up for an account and be part of the beta to get it.
so in short.. its against Swype's ToS and EULA. in order to avoid complications, rom makers dont include it

That's just it, I'm not asking to include the new version... just to NOT include the old one.
The old one doesn't really work, and prevents the easy installation of the new one.
So why include broken software?

It's not just the APK, there's a file in system/lib that needs to go too. Last paragraph:
http://forum.swype.com/showthread.p...install-Swype-Swype-PreLoad-Production-Device
Edit: Instead of requesting the devs remove, write a quick script that will remove the old. Then you just need run it once whenever you install a new rom.

Again, I know how to remove it, I know that it's possible to remove.
The question that no one is answering is WHY INCLUDE SOFTWARE THAT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH GINGERBREAD?
Sorry for yelling, but I'm trying to grasp the value of having the original package.

Am I the only one who's seeing the same trend here that happened in the movie "Anger Management"?
He's only asking "Who you are." LOL

Woops. Meant to quote aray92, not you since he/she said only the apk must be removed.

Thank you for the link. The Swype beta always crashed for me and now I know why. I removed the files and now Swype works. Thanks!
I agree, I want to be able to install the latest swype. If I recall correctly, couldn't they make it so we could uninstall? I think that's how it was with OG Evo custom roms.
It's been removed from mine from day one.
I thoroughly inspect my ROM for every instance of software that I don't want.

1) It works just fine.
2) It takes 10 seconds to uninstall with TB.
3) Did you ever consider the possibility that some people may not have another version of swype?

1. It doesn't work right.
2. Takes longer than that including removal of the lib files and a half dozen reboots to get the beta installed
3. F%#@ them. Majority wins and its a fantastic idea to remove it, let's get rid of car panel, Twitter, footprints, friendstream, stocks, htcfacebook, fm radio too
its not in my rom either
