Search... does it ever work? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Accessories

I always try to search before asking a question.
However, when ever I search on XDA I ALWAYS get irrelevant results. And sometimes, it can't find anything at all!
For instance: Right now there is a post "tv out cable" right here on the first page.. but if I do a search for "tv" it finds nothing. So I tried a search for "tv out cable".. remember there is a post right on the 1st page... it still says that there are not posts matching that criteria.
What is going on!?
I am perfectly capable, and willing to solve my own problems if I can. And I will search away until I find what I need. But how am I supposed to find what I need if the search function doesn't work worth a darn?
Thanks

try sticking AND ( in capital between your search words )
and select in thread titles only
searching " tv AND cable " in just the rhodium section brings up about 20 results including the one you mention at the top
hope that helps

It can be challenging to find what you are looking for and I applaud your efforts to solve your own issues first.
I was also frustrated when searching within XDA. Try using the search tool in my sig; click the blue letters. You can also try this one, http://www.google.com/cse/home?cx=017695416373862181485:gvgyyqz72fk&hl=en

I like to do a google search like this:
TP2 TV Cable site:forum.xda-developers.com
Click to collapse
i like using google cause i can switch between ppc geeks and other sites if xda doesn't show an answer. Not always the most up to date threads, but still very relevant information.

I find using Google the best option. Just type what you want to know with "xda" or "rhodium" added. The second works especially well since not all information on this phone is located on this web site

Use the built in forum search, not the google one. I find that it works much better.

I use google to but in the format of "site:xda-developters.com search keywords here" find it to yield somewhat better results then the built in search.

It can be found here. It's on the FTP, so no need to look too far.
I know sometimes it can be hard to find things here using the search feature, but if you search these forums using Google, it makes things a little easier.

has anybody used htcapps.com?

hi everybody has anybody used this site, ive tried to download one or two apps but they use the tag reader system and i carnt get it to work.
It's not really clear on the site, but it looks like it may be an Android site. If it is, that may explain the trouble.
While surfing the page I found these statement under "how to download Apps"
It is often hard to find apps through Android Market, which is why I have included the QR codes (the funny looking squares) on my posts so you can scan them with your HTC phone and download the Apps straight away.

Thread moved to Q&A.

[Q] How to search a thread? Search function offline.

Seems to me that "search thread" functions got lost! tried that with Firefox, Chrome and IE. Seems that search was taken offline.
Any idea how I can search a thread? Thanx
For me, certainly with the tapatalk app, search is worse than useless.
E.g. search for xxlp2 and nothing related to that, in any way, is in the results.
Best to use google and type xda in the search, works for me !

Just use a colon between your search query and the site name and you'll get search results for this site and this site only.
For example
checkrom:forum.xda-developers.com
As I said in a similar thread earlier:
Its been removed because nobody uses it. They prefer to start new threads.
And no, I don't mean that about the OP. Search is down and the fact he's asking means he does use it
EDIT: I think they are doing some maintenance.

Well, I used it.
Please tell me how to search in this thread about bluetooth: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1453287
I've tried the following searches:
google.com:
bluetooth:forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1453287
bluetooth site:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1453287
bluetooth "[ROM] [04.03]MildWild CM-3.6" site:forum.xda-developers.com
bluetooth "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1453287"
xda-search:
bluetooth "[ROM] [04.03]MildWild CM-3.6" # this works for many other threads, except this one
thx
EDIT: it's back, great

[Q] ICS and ICS + : not possible to fill "search" field

Hello to everybody,
I have a small strange thing.
When I use ICS (or ICS+) browser on the xda site and wanting to do a search, here is what happens :
- I touch the "search this forum" button
- it opens the field below
- I touch the "free text area " to start typing
- I see the keyboard sliding up, and then as quickly, it slides back down and the search box closes...
as a result, I can not perform any search on the XDa site.
It does not do that with Opera nor with dolphin.
PS :as a matter of fact, that was yesterday, because this morning, there is not even the "search" button only the "forum tools" one... but I believe it is related to a temporary site issue.
Anyway, has anyone experienced this? Where could it be coming from?
Same here, quite frustrating....
Same here with stock browser.
If you use the keyboard dock it works. But when use a onscreen keyboard you cant type in this sorts of popup text fields
WOW, thanks for bringing this up. I have had this problem for god knows how long. I first noticed it with my rooted HTCEVO. I seem to have this problem with just about all the forums. Now my prime also.
Is it an Android thing? Did it work for you guys with a different browser? Weird, I havent been able to use the function for so long I havent even looked for the search, and now I too see that it is gone. Is it a Vbulletin vs Android thing?
Would love to know the problem/solution.
thanks.....
EDIT: I have a dock, but never tried the search function with it. Now I guess we cant, I dont see the ability to "search this forum". What happened?
Anyway, there seems to be something going on with the search function on the forum now...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528883
edit 05/03/12 : search function is now back on the forum. I'll try again the ICS issue, see if it is still there...
Search function is still not working for me on browser+. However, I know it's not ideal for a quick search, but if it's any consolation the advance search field works.
Kind Regards,

[App Request] Switch To Windows Phone

Hello!
Can anyone upload Switch To Windows Phone *.apk here? I want to switch, but this app isn't available in my country and I don't know why.
There it is: here
You should try Google it yourselft first. There is no link to APK in Google yet, all pages links only to Google Play.

The irony of this ^ jerk's response is that googling it, brings you to this very forum thread.
I have very little respect for people who tell others to "Google it", on forums that are popular enough to become part of the Google results themselves. Sure, you perhaps cause that one single OP to do a bit more independent research the next time around, but you waste the time of hundreds of subsequent readers that land on your valueless comment AS THE RESULT OF DOING THEIR OWN RESEARCH.
Anyone have the APK?
I know you guys can download it from google play, but when I try it says 'This item cannot be installed in your device's country.' I get that a lot.
Usually I search APP apk and get it, but for this app everyone seems to be pointing to google play and that doesn't help me.
So If anyone knows a direct download for the APK please post it here thankyou.
Here you go
