Evening everyone,
For the past 7-8 days i've been having problems with my hero..it became REALLY slow all of a sudden... way more than before..apps have the usual "lag" that well you know lag once a while (only a bit more often)
I tried re-installing my Modaco 3.0, no results..Tried to install modaco 3.1 and villain 2.1 and i had the same "lag".. is it the apps that cause it? the more apps i have installed the laggier it will be? I have around 150 *maybe less maybe more, dont got the phone with me atm*
And on taskiller, advanced task killer and advanced task manager it used to show me the free memory or wtvr 100-120 after every end task..now it starts from 70 and a few seconds after i kill all apps it drops down to 35-40 :S
thx in regards
bump :/ no1?
did you check logcat when the lag occurs?

nop?;o how do i do that?
you need adb working for that, check some tutorials.
then connect the usb cable, restart the phone and execute "adb logcat" on your pc. you can redirect the output with "adb logcat > logcat.txt", so you can check it in detail or attach it here.

i never got adb to work properly ;/ any other ideas?
bump..anyone?its getting slower and slower :S i cant even listen to music now..and i even uninstalled 20+ apps..
You've already been given advice - get ADB working so you can post your logcat. Without more information, it's doubtful that anyone will be able to help you.
One question though - have you tried wiping and setting up your phone from scratch?
Regards,
Dave
yes i tried wiping my phone..even re-installed my modaco rom twice and tried a different rom aswell..and modaco rom 3.0 (prefer 2.9)
and i cant get adb working it keeps saying no access or something like that
i cant even listen to music now bcz the sound gets f***ed up..
Have a look at the services you're running.
You asked whether the more apps the slower your device is.
And the answer is yes.
So, you can always try new apps, but useless ones should leave(even with an app2sd, that'll allowed to to keep tons of apps).
I don't think it'll be very hard, Android uninstall apps fast and easily, not like WM based ones.

If you want help with this issue, you need to list out precisely what you have tried, and precisely what messages/errors are returned - "no access or something like that" is about as useful as a chocolate teapot when it comes to trying to diagnose your issue!
Regards,
Dave
thx for the answers...
i cant remember what exact error adb was giving me and i cant check it until tonight when i have some spare time...
also i keep task killing and there is no difference... nor with uninstalling :/ appmanager says i have 127 apps :/
hello again people
i currently dont have my computer (thats why i didnt try the adb)
but i have tried some things a m8 told me too and thats dalvik cache wipe and moving log(something) to SD.. i did that and i lost 80MB of INTERNAL memory and my lock screen..i cant drag it down anymore..i have to press menu twice...
but my phone is now faster although WAY slower when writing....
i'll try the adb shell as soon as i get my pc back from the technician!
thx a lot in advance!

Hey guys,
I love my 101it and can't wait for full root.
in the mean time I've been using z4oot like everybody else.
But since yesterday that stopped working for me.
I've been running z4root and it said that temp root has been granted.... but it hasn't.
I've tried rebooting. Enabling and disabling USB debugging, but nothing works.
I feel like I'm skipping some stupid step.
Anybody has any idea?
Thanks!
Check free memory using ATK or any other app killer. My Z4 was giving me the same issues till I fixed the free memory. My issues started when memory went below 49MB. So I uninstalled some apps and no issues so far.
Some said that you need more space for it (100MB free out of 300MB).
Some also said that it only works after they moved all their apps back to the 300MB storage after they used app2sd (and may or may not have uninstalled it before they rooted).
Some said clearing the data/cache of and reinstalling superuser/z4root worked for them.
Also, once you got it rooted, don't reboot, use hot reboot to keep your root while booting.
For me, I haven't tried the second solution, and I had to reinitialize the entire system... Thankfully appmonster backup, titanium backup, and appbrain sync makes it easy to reinstall all the apps I had.
Thank you guys.
I was able to release 78mb on my internal, cleared data and cache on both but its still not working.
I would consider formatting but since I have no root I can not backup using TB...
Ill try to clear more space later and retry.
Will post results here.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!
Consider backing up with appmonster, swiftp, usb, appbak (list of app, if app monster don't do that already), and appbrain (for quick reinstall).
I believe appmonster let you backup apks, and app list. And with appbrain, you can just copy your synched app list to the new install and tell it to install them.
I had the same problem before and as MoonPhantasm suggests... moving all apps back to the phone from internal storage let me root again. Give that a shot.
The problem is that I have way too many Alps to keep in the measly 256mb on this device...
I ended up formatting the device and now it works.
lets see how long I can go without a full reboot
Thanks all.

There is over 300 MB for "Alps" on the device unless you move them to SD in which case there is nearly 8 GB. There is 256 MB of RAM which only comes into play when you swap applications to background. Formatting is like swatting a fly with a grenade launcher but then if you don't know RAM from flash...
I'm finding the tablet pretty responsive without upping the CPU limit but I would prefer a more clear and workable solution than formatting every time I reboot.

I have autocorrect to thank for the "Alps"
I agree - there are 300mb for apps, but I use a lot of apps on my device, and some are rather big (it adds up) and most of these unfortunately do not allow to move to SD Card. I can force some of them to SD using Titanium Backup, but then again once I go under a certain threshold I cannot root and therefore cannot use TB.
I would love to have more than 300mb for apps. It seems kind of stupid that out of 16GB on the device they partitioned only 300mb for apps.... Unless I am missing something... in which case please feel free to correct me.
I do appreciate the opinion though.
Ohad.

You have to remember that the folks that frequent these boards are not the typical end-user. I had read that the average user installs 8 apps. I have 64, and you are probably around the same high number. The space allocated to the system apps area is not available for content storage, so to most users even the 300MB seems like too much wasted space.
I got 90 apps installed myself, and only have about 30-40MB free right now. Was full for a bit, before I uninstalled a few things... :/
It is pretty ridiculous to only have 300MB for app, when there are 8GB total space. My first time reaching that limit shocked me quite a bit.
About average users installing 8 apps, that sounds impossibly low. Over time, even average users are going to accrue quite a lot of apps. I don't think average users are good at 'uninstalling' things that they don't use til they have to.
Had the problem too and some of it was due to app2sd. Plus, apps keep disappearing when using app2sd, so this feature, one of the most important of froyo, isn't working at all.
Read in another forum that it might be a good idea to first stop all apps by using TaskControl or a similar task manager, before trying to root.
I can't seem to get Z4 to work at all now after doing the firmware update. Tablet seems a lot more stable than it was before the update but would still like to be able to use setCPU to bypass the CPU lock.

In the latest patch they fixed the options that were allowing temp root. This was mentioned in other posts. Right now there is no root for this device.
Faldiin
Instructions I use to root my A70 IT 8 GB
Hello,
I've been using z4root on my A70 IT 8 GB, since I discovered the ping command requires root access on the Archos Gen 8 line. In the meantime, I found additional reasons to use root mode, such as:
1) MyBackupPro supports root mode for full application and data backup.
2) Swap to increase the memory on these 256 MB devices. While swapping to a SD Card isn't a good idea, I'm looking to do it on the 250 MB version.
3) 1 Ghz fix, which once I can go to the 2.0.71 firmware won't be necessary.
4) Run applications that use the ping command.
I'm using these instructions for running z4root on my system. They assume you already have z4root installed on your system. As for validating rooting was successful, there are a couple of ways on the Archos Gen 8 devices:
1) Run setCPU
2) Run the Terminal Emulator and try to use the su command. If it exists you're golden, if not then it failed.
Steps I use:
1) Let the boot process complete, but don't start additional commands.
2) Make sure USB Debugging is on and (if you want) see if there is at least 100 MB of storage left.
3) Start z4root
4) Select temp root
5) Confirm the notice about USB debugging. If it doesn't appear, something isn't right.
6) z4root will take you to the settings. At this point select development from the opened settings, disable and then enable USB debugging. Confirm the message about USB debugging.
7) Return to the home page.
8) Go back into settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All Applications (tab). Go to the bottom of the list, find z4root and select it. Once there you need to:
8A) Do a Clear Data. This is important.
8B) If z4root is running do a Force Close.
8C) Return to the home screen.
9) Start z4root again.
10) Select temp root and in 5 seconds or so you should see a White flash and the text on the screen should change to say the application is finishing up.
Allow it to finish. See notes below should these steps fail to produce temporary root.
z4root will tell you it was successful whether it was or not. I don't know why. At least on the Gen 8 line checking is as simple as seeing if the "su" command exists on the system. If it does, you're golden and if not then something failed and you can't access root.
To validate success, I'll use one of the following methods:
TERMINAL EMULATOR: Start the Terminal Emulator application and issue the "su" command. If this fails, you don't have root. (Note: If this is the first time running terminal emulator in root, you'll get a message asking to give your permission for terminal emulator to have root access. If the message fails to appear, you don't have root. Again this is the first time only.)
setCPU: Start setCPU and if it is the first time ever using the command, run the Device Selection choosing "Autodect Speed Recommended." If you get a screen asking permission to add setCPU to the list of application, you're golden. If you don't get the prompt or setCPU says it failed to get root, you don't have root.
Subsequent times you use setCPU and adjust the maximum speed, you'll see a message flash on the screen about setCPU gaining superuser permission. This message is from the Superuser application. NOTE: You may see the message even before you adjust anything on subsequent uses of setCPU during the same session.
TROUBLE SHOOTING z4root:
Should z4root fail, you should try it a second time after doing a Clear Data and Force Close. If this fails, do a reboot and try again.
Should it fail all the above retries, I go back to square one. I'll uninstall it, download it again from XDA-Developers, and install it with reboots between each step. I have yet to have this last method ever fail on me.
Typically, though, I don't need to go beyond a second try with a reboot.
Should it again fail, my best success has been to uninstall z4root, reboot, reinstall, reboot, and then follow the instructions.
Good luck and hopefully your mileage will be as good as mine.
If you hear of a version working with firmware 2.0.71, please, let me know.
BGMArchos,
i'm not sure to understand you... you have root your 70it with which firmware ?
not the latest firmware. He said once he can go to the .71 firmware the 1GHz fix from rooting wont' be necessary.
But I find unrootable android device pretty ridiculous. I'll be trading this archos for another device at this rate.
I am sure perm root will come, it's just a matter of time.
Btw what alternative is there for the archos in its price range.
I use the 71 firmware and i am pretty happy with the archos at the moment.
When root comes it will just get better.
But for now I can live without root.
Biggest improvement in think is the way it handles the ram. I don't need to kill any tasks anymore like before. That was one of the most annoying things about the tablet.
Not like it was really much of an issue. You can always reboot every a while too as it reboot pretty fast.
On my Galaxy Tab 10.1 running 'In Paris V4' with preshoot's kernel I have the following problem:
Android media process hogs CPU (47%, which means 100% for one thread on this dual core device).
The device was running fine for a few months, so the problem is not the ROM/kernel but was caused by something else later on.
I would like to fix this problem (without reformatting/reflashing the whole ROM). If there is no easy solution I just want to disable it, but could not figure out how.
Killing the process helps for some time, but after some minutes/hours the process is back. I tried 'pm disable com.android.providers.media' as well as 'pm disable com.android.providers.media/com.android.media.MediaScannerReceiver' -- both with no result (it helps for a few minutes but then the process is back again!).
I don't know how/where this process is started so that I can make a modification there to disable it or which package I should delete to get rid of the process.
Any help/suggestions are appreciated.
This obviously seems to be the wrong board I am posting that supposedly simple question in -- could somebody please point me in the right direction and I will ask again in a more appropriate board.
I'd say the board is the right one ... but at least I can't help you here, as I don't know the answer .
My only advice would be to flash a newer ROM, isn't inParis kinda "outdated"? I think android.media has something to do with connecting USB devices to the tab, since it's the thing that crashes on ICS KANGs when you plug out your USB stick ... but that's all I can help you with (if it's any help)

Honestly, I was going to say that you'll spend less time doing the ICS update than looking for this; especially on that ROM (great ROM.... 6 months ago...). I'd suggest go with the last milestone from Romann.

Thanks -- tried to flash latest Milestone and b26 releases. I can understand if you'd just rather wait because of having to bother with reinstalling every thing, but it looks like you can change ROMs quickly. So why not goto Task14 while you wait for ICS?
There might be device issue I'm not aware of also, so just wondering.
If you can read this, thank the person that taught you how.
i have a dopo (double power) d7015, the about tablet says the model is d7018. i've messed it up and didn't make a backup... does anyone have ANY info on these tablets? like if it is a rebranded other model? or any roms i can flash to it? i've tried putting 2 different roms on through the built in recovery, but it fails and says no more space on device.
originally i played with the advanced install of busybox installer, and that started problems... first thing i noticed was the 0 total internal space... i restored to factory settings, but the problem persisted and it wouldn't obtain an ip address, so i input it manually and could use the browser... but it was all pretty moot because of the messed up internal storage. i tried to adb shell into it, and was told that /system/bin/sh didn't exist... i found a binary online and pushed it, then could open a shell...
then i noticed that busybox was still in xbin, and i read in a forum that busybox being in /system/xbin could cause mount issues, and recommended to copy the binary into /system/bin. after that the internal storage showed properly, but wifi wouldn't even turn on.
i've tried reversing the process but can't get wifi to turn on at all... from what i've gathered in forums, most people upon getting into this situation flashed and all was well... but i can't find a stock rom for the tablet, or any other rom that's worked in my efforts...
i guess the main things i had in mind are either a stock rom i can use with the recovery that came on it, or another rom and a little help getting it on there... last flashing experience i really had was with my neo freerunner a while back...
but ANY help would be appreciated greatly!
thank you in advance!
still nothing? gonna try digging around for something again... if i find anything i'll update. i finally got my tablet going, but with pretty regular problems. now it seems like there's bad sectors in either the cache or data partitions because after i get so far into getting all my apps on there (from store) gplay services and account management and all types of other stuff starts force closing constantly... it's pretty maddening. i've had the most luck only installing a bare minimum of apps and only using it for browsing reddit and other small stuff, but before all the trouble i could do so much more!
totally given up on the dopo tablet... if anyone find something please post here!

Wow... Still nothing. ive found a way to build the images for the tablets like these... But I don't even have an x86 arc comp to build it with! Only chrome book and raspberry pis .
my phone has been doing weird stuff lately like apps that i specificaly turned off will now turn on by themselves, my battery drains faster too, getting more calls from a "private number".
i updated my phone to the latest update and it runs android 9 pie.
all apps are up to date aswell. i check that often.
i scanned with malwarebytes but it found nothing suspicious.
bootloader is locked aswell. not rooted.
any ideas about what might be happening or how to fix this?
thanks in advance.
If you turn off an user-app it only gets stopped for the time you have Android actually running. When you restart Android then it's brought back to life again.

I have this phone for like 2 years now, those apps that i disabled have remained disabled for 2 years now even when i restart phone or shutdown and boot up again. now suddenly 3 of them enable themselves while i am not doing anything.
1: Youtube app
2: Google News app
3: Google Photo app.
These apps were disabled for at least 2 years. i have no clue how they can re-enabled themselves without me pushing the enable button.

no need, i am glad you tried to help. maybe it sounds a bit dull but it has been like this for a whole week now where i have to make sure i dont update these apps and disable them first before using google play to update all apps.
i changed launcher now to Evie launcher. maybe that work since these apps dont enable themselves for a full day now.
seems like its still going even after launcher change. its only those 3 apps that were disabled and now get enabled automatically.
Why not simply uninstall the apps in question?

You can disable them with adb commands. It effectively hides them. When done right the system no longer sees them as installed or running and they dont get updates from the play store anymore. Should sort out your problem with them re-enabling automatically. Not sure if you have done this already, but if not, give it a try.

Bloatware is stored in Android OS partitions /system and/or /system-priv. Hence one needs ROOT privileges to remove it.

Did you tried factory reset? Most malwares disappears that way, but if it elevated privilege and installed itself as system, you're screwed.
First try to reboot in safe mode, and see if the app is still here.

It must have installed some others apps in the background or something in those lines, try safe mode and see if it's still slow.
Edit#1: You also might want to see which account were connected to this device, they might have been compromised, and you should change password ASAP just to be sure
IMHO an Android phone or tablet can be classified as slow, if it's taking longer than the usual time to open apps and if you can clearly notice a delay while switching between screens. In case of installed malware, then if the malware tries to perform somewhat intensive tasks on your phone or tablet, you may find that your device begins to slow down as it takes up processing power to do its job. This results in slower loading, apps hanging, and long boot times. It may also cause interruptions and other weird occurrences while making a phone call.
BTW:
One easily can check in real-time what apps/services are running ( plus their priority ) to find any bottlenecks by means of ADB, i.e. running
Code:
adb devices
adb shell "top <options>"
