Hi all, I am considering to buy the HTC Hero from Hong Kong but wanted to know if it has the latest version of the ROM (2.73.405.5) or the old laggy ROM.. Sorry if I asked the same question again or you could point to me the correct thread.. thanks

It has an unrootable ROM, i suggest you either buy a european one or just wait, we have been screwed with these ROMs
Thanks for the reply.. but what is actually the problem with the ROM? BTW, what is an unrootable ROM? Basically, I need Chinese input as I am working in China.. therefore, an european HTC might not work without chinese input..

I bought my HTC Hero from a German site, and apparently the default language doesn't have Chinese. I've tried both DrizzyDrake's and modaco's ROM, and have no problem inputting Chinese.
OK thanks.. this is good info.. I am very new to android.. so by loading modaco ROM will have chinese input as well as the latest patch 2.73 that solve the lagging issues right?

will flashrec work with this?
oh and mystaka, is the modaco rom ok with chinese characters and the network here in hk?

Hi , if you buy it from Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia or HK they all can't be upgraded or rooted, the SPL on the ROM has restrictions, if you plan to buy one, make sure it best not to be 2.73.xxx or if you do get a 2.73.xx atleast get a 2.73.405.5 which is european and flashrec works with it, the asian roms flashrec doesnt work with. You will be screwed and can't update to anything else.

ahh ok...damn. i guess i'll just have to wait till they make a fix for this. I'll have to go scour some chinese forums to see if they have figured this problem out yet.

i bought my Hero from Smartone-Vodafone in Hong Kong, my firmware is 2.73.721.9, no lag, very smooth
rooted 2.73.721.9, no custom ROM's
Followed the guide on http://blog.trevoreckhart.com/2009/11/10/cdma-hero-root.aspx & rooted device OK.
Used the recovery-RA-hero.1.5.2.img recovery image. DO NOT use "heroc"!
When loading/flashing the recovery image, it gave me lip about a space requirement (unable to read/write recovery partition), but worked fine after I rebooted the device & tried again, so it's probably a good idea to reboot the device before attempting.
busybox on the device helped a lot (thanks to tmzt on IRC for his great help, btw)
As of yet, I have not been able to locate a ROM that I could load on the build v 2.73.721.9.
The MoDaCo ROM (v.3.0) installs OK, but it does not boot up. Just sits there on the boot/loading screen, but I was able to access root shell via adb.
Luckily, I have thorough backups, so it's safe to try stuff & simply revert back to a earlier snapshot
When can we expect any new Rom for Mega? Maybe if we are god, Santa will give us a new one for Christmas ???

I have the same problem ... it may be because the rom is locked into orange network or we have to unlock the phone first ?

You have to SIM unlock(optional) and CID unlock. Don't ask how, search this forum (it costs you about 35 euros)
Just checked the HTC website and I've just discovered a new ROM for T-Mobile(uk?) users was uploaded yesterday
Version 1.33.110.2
Luckily for me I'm a t-mobile user, but I havnt noticed anyone talking about a 1.30+ rom yet

ALSO note that this is for T-Mobile UK branded Mega's ONLY
(you could try using it, but dont complain when your GPRS/mms/etc settings are preconfigured for T-mobile!!)
Thanks for this.. looks like the crappy T Mobile release is the best we can hope for. At least YouTube gets its own application, so I don't get the "Finding Network..." error when loading videos from IE

T Mobile must have paid millions for HTC to lock the Mega with them, this is a really nice phone, especially if you don't want to carry a laptop sized thing (HD2) with you
Why can't they make a single ROM with no branding on it (or at least don't block changing the ROM)
... If anything, seeing the bloody T Mobile thing on start up makes me less likely to switch to them, and go to Virgin or stay with O2.

Is it a T-Mobile one? Or not? The phone must be a T-Mobile UK one, you must select United Kingdom in their site and voila.

It is, but only for UK T-Mobile branded phones. Its not for every HTC Mega.
Brands?
I have no Idea about the other brands... My phone was originally in Italian then I was able to Flash it with an WWE Rom.. I don't think that I won't be able to reflash it with the latest rom version released by the other providers...

Then my friend you have not branded mobile phone. That means you must put only WWE updates, this update is only for T-Mobile Phones from UK, when you swich on/off the phone you see T-Mobile, now did you get that this is not for you, wait for the 1.33 WWE version.

Hi Guys i just updated the Rom and now the phone says no Sim even though there is a Sim in the card tried in another phone and works ok, Any ideas Please. and yes im t-mobile UK

however, based on my experiences for my two remaining devices as seen in my signature.. I used to flash stock roms from other carriers as well as their updates... so why can't i flash the mega???

I didnt say you cant, i say its not good to see T-Mobile at the beggining and everything in the ROM
Im trying to get hold of the latest release of the World Wide English, Europe Mega ROM off HTC support.
For them to release it they need me to give a serial number. I have a T-Mobile handset, so mine wont do.
(Anyone who wants to download the latest T-Mobile ROM from HTC's website, can use my serial number : HT01XP102250 )
So if anyone from the United Kingdom, with an unlocked, sim free, Touch 2, (NOT BOUGHT WITH A T-MOBILE CONTRACT!) could let me know their serial number - it would be appreciated

I am in need of your urgent attention. My EU leo's touch screen got out of function while using andriod NAND.
Now I had to send it to claim warranty and for that i need official win mo 6.5 in it. I gone through many threads and tried some official rooms too but it says 00028002 NOT ALLOWED...

I just need a working official rom(Any version) for my HD2 so that i can send it for repair.

Go to the HTC correspondent site and download software update via inserting your IMEI number.
If you are sure that you have European model than - do it with Euro web site.
First - check your IMEI here: http://www.numberingplans.com/?page=analysis&sub=imeinr to be sure about the phone origin.

I downloaded and tried to installed this rom but the same error came up. Invalid rom...
So dear, I think you realize now that this needs an expert... But no body is there to help me out.... ... I had high expectations with xda.....
