where can I get a proper working USB / Power cable? - Hero, G2 Touch Accessories

Hi
I'm in London. My original cable is getting a bit worn, and I'm looking to get another one. I got a couple from Ebay - but although they are fine for data they don't charge properly ( same for car chargers ) -
Anyone know where I can get a working one to use with my wall plug in charger?
cheers

I almost never use the original cable, and just end up using standard USB cables and have no problems whatsoever.
Vis-a-vis car chargers, there does seem to be a difference between car charges. I used to find that I had problems charging Blackberry's with cheapo car chargers, but all my current car chargers can charge the Hero just fine.

Dave

Some won't work. Cheap ones won't, generally.
Blackberry ones do though!
Odd but true

universal USB car (or wall) charger with a standard USB to mini-USB cable works just fine

http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-Dual-USB-Car-Charger/dp/B000RYSU7O/ref=pd_cp_cps_1
also, bought el-cheapo charging set for various phones, covers almost every brand and type you can have (had few different ones in family so it's practical) and mini-USB is present. it works

International USB Charger Recommendations?

I have been searching high and low for a good international USB charger for my TP2 (and other devices). I've found several, but reviews tend to be either mixed or non-existent.
My dream gizmo is something very compact and lightweight that can be jammed into almost any wall outlet in the world, which I can then plug a USB cable into and charge my TP2 (and ideally other stuff which can be charged with a standard USB cable).
Do any of you fine forum folks have suggestions? Or at least warnings for which products to avoid?
Well, when I travel I have a universal travel adaptor (ie it can fit into any power plug), and I plug into that the USB charger that came from HTC. Or I charge from my laptop.
HTC itself sells an international charger kit, but if you're going to multiple countries, it just means extra weight.

Just about any USB charger that has a 5.0V output should do fine. I use the same one that charges my iPod to charge various gadgets.
I picked up a nice one on one of Cathy Pacific's flights. They also sell them on their site.

Oh! I also have iGO laptop charger and various adapters. iGo works great.

Wall-outlet charger

Hey all, the Sprint Hero comes with a charger that uses the usb cable to plug in to the phone. My problem is two-fold:
First, I like having a usb cord on me to charge where ever I go, and I don't like/am bad at remembering to take the usb cord out of the wall unit and pack with me in the morning.
Second, The usb cord isn't very long for a device that's plugged into an outlet near the ground (read: nearly every outlet in existence) and the usb cable barely reaches my desk for the phone to rest on.
Is there a decent charger that doesn't need our usb cable and has a couple extra feet in length? I don't want to get a universal charger because I don't want to fry the phone's charging system, which happened to my old Vogue. Everything I have found online is a universal type charger.
Has anyone had any experience with a good wall charger for the hero?
Thanks,
- JustPyro
You are aware that a standard USB cable works with the Hero? No need to use the one that came with the phone.
Regards,
Dave
Buy a longer USB-miniUSB lead, plug that into your home charger, and then carry the shorter one that HTC supplies around with you.
I've also found the stock one too short so I got a longer one, I also got a 3 inch long one to keep with me for tethering at work.... fits in my pocket nicely and it doesn't need to be any longer when the phone is sat next to my laptop.
These days I rarely find anywhere where I can't quickly borrow a miniUSB lead to charge my phone, they're used on so many different devices. Oh, and don't be afraid of 'universal' chargers - the Hero works with these fine, since USB is a 'universal' standard and 5v is 5v no matter where it comes from.

Cant get car charger to work... any ideas?

hi,
I've got a couple of micro usb car chargers I bought to charge my old samsungs.... but they dont charge my X10.
I've shorted pins 2 and 3 on one of them( d+ and d-) as per this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696760&page=2
but it's still not charging my x10, if anything the battery is being drained quicker when plugged in to the car charger
the label states the output on the charger i have shorted is 4.2- 10v @ 600mA, 750mA max
is there something I am missing?
edit: I've read some of the charging threads and discovered the li-poly battery protection circuit is stopping my cheap chargers from working, so it looks like I need to buy genuine sony (Sony an300), I wonder if this is deliberate on sony's part? I thought the whole point of standardising phone chargers to micro usb - is so that they don't go to waste every time you buy a new phone?
I found that using the original micro USB cable (Or a good quality one) and one of these -> Car USB Outlet works better than buying an adapter with the cable already attached.
Such was the case with my X1 and X2 as well.
These newer gen ones are around 700mA instead of 500mA.

Hi
I have one of these from Blue unplugged. go to blueunplugged dot com. in the quickcode type 139166. It is a 'Santok STK Car Charger With 1A USB Port'
I worked on my old X1 and with a micro usb cable it works on my X10 too.
I previously had a different device. It got very hot when I was on the phone and using satnav. This one is great. Its not missed a beat.
I think this is the cable, Quickcode 138344. Please check before purchasing though!
sorry can't post URLs.

I use my Motorola car charger and it works fine when my phone has some juice left in the battery. the first time I tried to use it the battery was completely flat and the charger would not work well, though

I bought that one, and it doesn't work with my X10. I have tried other USB devices, and the charger works.
After contacting the vendor (e-cell) they are going to send me another unit, free of charges. But I am not sure if it will work, either.

I bought one the other week to try, it doesn't work with the standard SE cable.
The light on the actual plug comes on but nothing indicates it being plugged in on the phone itself.
I've found no 3rd party in-car chargers work with the X10 and after reading all the problems people had here, I just went and bought an official Sony Ericsson one of eBay for £15. Works perfectly
I think you have to have one that has an output of exactly 700 mAp.
I've tested with higher and lower amperage and nothing worked.
I grabbed an SE AN300 off Play.com and it works with no issue. Looks like I made a trouble-free choice.

[Q] In car charger

HI,
I'm hoping I can get some help. I have purchased a USB in can charger with two out puts. Now when I plug my ipod in through the USB charger it charges fine. When I plug in the X10 charger it will not charge, I've tried 2 separate USB chargers and 3 different charger cables with no success.
Am I missing somthing here? my ipod works fine which ever fag lighter charger I use but the X10 refuses to charge.
Can anybody help!!
Same here. End of the day i get sonyericsson original car charger instead.
Most devices made now, that are of quality, will not allow you to use third party power adapters. Not exactly how but its something to do with the exact current flowing to the device and/or using resistors in the adapter itself. I'm sure you could duplicate it and modify a cheap one for a dollar or two in parts instead of buying an SE brand

Allow me to Explain
USB charging from computers will work on all devices, this is "as intended". USB charging from a car socket or any other means is "not as intended" and so companies like Sony, Creative, Apple have got wise to the idea and started "blocking" it, they want more revenue from thier own charging devices so have over-ruled the basics of USB and made the device need a sort of "trigger" which is usually a wire that is different in a standard car changing USB dock.
The only way around this is to find a branded car usb charger or a company who knows the method and has added it to their type of USB socket.
So remember it's not mainly to do with amps or the voltage, but the companies themselves that stop you using a standard USB power adapter
Damn Dudes...
This has been discussed a zillion times in this forum..
Simply shorten the middle USB-PINs and everything will be fine...

micro USB cables and slow charging

None of my micro USB cables will charge my E970 without a "slow charging" notification except for the cable that came with the phone. Even the venerable 6' monoprice cable isn't up to the task. HTC cords aren't cutting it, either. Does anybody have any 6'+ (ideally a 10') micro B cables that will charge the phone without slow charging? My monoprice 6' cables (i have a bunch) barely keep the phone from losing charge when serving up LTE hotspot, where as the LG cable charges it whilst doing whatever I can to suck down as much current as possible.
Also, I really don't want to short data cables. Somehow the stock LG cable does full current while maintaining data capability, and that's what I'm looking for.

OEM LG cables can be found almost anywhere used so that shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise, you may be looking at the wrong end of the cable. I have a spare tablet plug charger that puts out up to 2 amps and that seems to be what works best for me no matter what the cable. You might want to look for one of those instead of just buying more cables.
FWIW....I had the opposite result. The cable and adapter which has been near my bedside for the last year (for my HTC EVO 4G) kept giving me the slow charging notification on my me LGOG. If I used the LG adapter and cable all was well, but it was shorter than I wanted. I changed out the adapter and kept the older long cable and still got the slow charging notification. It seems most of my existing cables have this issue...even when using the new LG adapter.
I have not looked into power capacities on the usb cables since I charge each night and don't need to recharge during the day. Didn't expect there to be a throughput difference, but the new LG cable does seem to be different.

What is the part number for the oem charger and USB cable?
I use a Samsung charging cable with my LG plug and it charges regularly. I love the Samsung cable because the mirco-usb plug is asymmetric so I always plug it in correctly the first time, every time. Even in the dark. The cable is pretty long too. I don't use the Samsung plug because it only outputs 0.7A though.

I also use a cheapo USB male to female extender that I got off eBay at my gf's place and it charges just fine too.
I'm having the opposite problem, I have had my phone for a month, out of no where the original charger is throwing up slow charging icon. Wierd

Same problem here, just started about a week ago. It doesn't matter what cable I use it keeps switching between slow charge and regular charge. It charges without problems when the phone is off though. Also when I plug my phone into my pc it keeps disconnecting every few minutes. I'm starting to think its a problem with the phone itself and not the charger or cord as they work fine with all my other devices just not the Optimus G

I use all sorts of cables and so far the only time I see "Slow charging" is when it's plugged into my laptop or one of my USB hub. Those are the only times I could narrow mine down to.
In the car I use cheapo monoprice cable and charger, in the bedroom it's using the charger and cable from my HTC inspire. By my PC I have a Belkin 6 plug 2 usb wall charger installed with the stock cable, and at the office an iPhone 1G wall plug. I don't think I have even plugged in the oem charger that came with it.
