No longer able to update to custom 2.1 roms?? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I've had lot's of problems with my HTC recently, no adb access etc, device not being recognised and recovery playing up, ie not being able to wipe install roms etc... however I fixed the recovery issue and managed to do a nandroid backup, I put on I think it was 1.5 HTC sense hero rom... and recently realised that i can only flash 1.5 roms, not 2.1 anymore? would any developer know what would of caused this problem? Any 2.1 rom just locks on the Hero logo, and I've left it for over an hour in some cases and nothing happens. Again, I used to be able to put on any custom rom.... I'm all out of ideas.

wipe
did you wipe? what recovery image you using etc etc?

1. post in the correct section.
2. remove the ext4 partition from your sdcard, or change it to ext2 or ext3.
3. get adb logcat, otherwise this is like the question "my car won't run, can anybody tell me why?"

I have wiped numerous times... sorry for the "my car won't run type question etc...." just that I've done my research, gooogled, posted detailed info previously on here and another forum, I even fixed my own problem of the recovery image, without fixing that I would have nothing. But anyway the card is partitioned with swap, ext2, fat32 using the latest Amon_Ra image 1.6? something... i've spent weeks trying to resolve this and learnt a lot along the way.
Obviously not where to find the adb logcat... don't worry I'll google it.
Apologies for posting in the wrong forum, if it can be moved could a mod do so?

Thanks for your reply, I will approach this method again at some point and give it a try, but I think I read somewhere that I couldn't do it for whatever reason, but I'll look into it again seeing as you've had the same issues. Thanks.

Actually I believe I didnt attempt this because I was no longer able to get my HTC hero working with ADB, as soon as I plug the device in, it comes up as device unrecognised, so I think goldcard method it out.. :-(

on the risk of offending you again (even though i am trying to help here...): you did not provide really much valid info. for most things you just said "doesn't work". what happens if you start by pushing home+power? saying the recovery doesn't boot up tells what does NOT happen, for a diagnosis we need the info what DOES happen.
anyway, if i get you right your recovery is now working. now repartition your sdcard (ext2 and fat, NO swap), do a full wipe, then install the rom you desire to use, then move the log to sdcard ("other" in recovery). reboot your phone and execute "adb logcat > c:\logcat.txt" on your pc. if it doesn't boot up after five minutes stop logcat with ctrl-c and post the two logfiles (recovery.log and logcat.txt). you need to set up adb, if you have problems with that sort them out, there is no way to get any information about your problem without the log.
oh, and about the goldcard: i don't know too much about goldcard'ing, but i can't see how this should help here. my strongest guess is that the swap partition interferes with the boot process...

No worries no offence taken. Pushing Home+Power works and takes me to recovery. Back+Power takes me to bootloader and USB Bootloader device is recognised, so I am able to get Fastboot.
Just recently installed stock rom, to see if that solved the USB and ROM issues but no such luck, re-rooted, put anom latest recovery back on, and went on to do what you have advised to help.. i've attached only the recovery.log in zip format only, as when doing adb logcat command use mentioned(after installing new rom), all I get is "waiting for devices" whilst the phone is stuck on the Hero logo, I waited about 10 minutes, exited from the adb, and the log file was empty as I guessed. I've tried every possible way that I found on the web to try and get the ADB function working again and I realise this is important to get some info.. but I've ran out of ideas for that.
Maybe the recovery(attached) may show something, all I noticed is that the cache and something else was not wiped for some reason? If you or someone has time, have a look through maybe someone knows what is going on.
Thanks for your help and patience

[Q] Help with Eris and Evil Eris

I'm having a little trouble and I'm sincerely hoping you'll help. I've tried flashing my Eris using the file, "Evil_Tazz_3.zip" and my Eris is now bricked and stuck in a bootloop. All it will do is show an animation of the sketchy letters ANDROID falling down the screen and then a smoky light following close behind it reveling the Droid itself. And it'll repeat this animation rapidly about 100 times before freezing and then restarting the whole process all over. To be frank it pisses me off because it always seems that I'm the only one who has trouble with this stuff.
My Eris is rooted and it does allow me to access the recovery screen. What am I supposed to do?
Anyways, thanks for your time.

Whatever you do, DO NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE UNTIL BTFB0 responds to your plea for help.
Do not just start trying different solutions, DO NOT FLASH ANY RUU, if you know what that is. BTFB0 is the guy who can get your phone unbricked if anyone can. He is the expert, I won't pretend to be able to duplicate his knowledge in this area.
Be patient until he has a chance to see this. You don't have to PM him, I'm sure he'll respond when he has a chance here in public. He will ask specific questions about what version of bootloader you have, 1.47 or 1.49, and you might as well find out if it's S=OFF or S=ON.
Also, do you have Amon RA recovery on your phone and can you get to it?
Have you tried flashing anything else since your phone has gotten stuck in this boot loop? If not and you can get into recovery still, then simply wipe data, wipe dalvik, and try flashing again. Don't worry you're phone doesn't sound bricked, just like you got a bad download or an error when flashing the rom. I would probably try a different rom or at least re-download the one you want to use.
It may still be wise to wait for BTFB0 to get here and offer some more advice as I am sure he has more knowledge in this area than me. But I do feel confident that he will say the same thing as I have.
Well, the OP merely said that he is having trouble with a specific ROM; he didn't mention failures during flashing; so, his problem could be as simple as having failed to "wipe" before flashing his ROM.
jbergen:
If you can boot into a custom recovery, your phone is not "bricked". It's not even soft-bricked; it's just not booting into the main OS correctly.
Providing as much detail as you can is helpful to people that are offering help to you; in particular, the following pieces of information:
- What recovery is on your phone? (Amon_RA, Clockwork? What version #?)
- When you are flashing the ROM file with your recovery, do you notice any "E:" messages?
An "E:" at the beginning of a line on the screen means that an error occurred!
- Are you having this same trouble on more than one ROM, or is this the only ROM you have tried since you rooted?
- What method did you use to root the phone?
- Did you use the "Wipe data/factory reset" menu item before you flashed the ROM file?
- Did you make any Nandroid backups that you still have on your SD card? If yes, did you attempt to restore one? What was the result? (BTW, every rooted phone user should be making Nandroid backups before they flash ROMs - no exceptions.)
- Do you have a media card slot or USB card reader device that will allow you to copy a different ROM file onto your SD card? -OR-
- Do you know how to "mount" the SD card onto the PC when your recovery is booted? (On Amon_RA, it is called "Toggle MS-USB" or something like that; it's also in the Clockwork menu somewhere too)
Given the information you have provided, there are any number of things that could be going on. I would suggest downloading a different ROM to your PC (let's say the stock HTC Eris March 2011 ROM), and then transferring it to your SD card. Then,
- Verify the exact size of the file and/or MD5 signatures of the file (if the developer provided it).
- make sure your phone is well charged
- perform a "Wipe data/factory reset" from the recovery menu
- Flash the ROM file from the recovery menu - and pay attention to the screen to see if there are any `E:' errors
- If there are errors, there is no point in attempting to boot the phone
- If there are no errors, boot the phone.
- Report your results here - and answer the questions that I asked.

can't do commands via usb, i'm reading this to mean, you don't have adb access.
after wiping the /data partition, where system settings are stored, including the toggle for adb access via, you will probably have to re-enable.
to enable adb access via usb on sense -> settings -> applications -> development -> usb debugging. this should be toggle on.
if that doesn't work, post back and we can start digging deeper but i'm hoping that'll resolve your isse!
I apologize in advance for being lengthy, but I want to be thorough to give you a good idea of what I did. Hopefully someone will point out what I did right or wrong.
I had this same exact problem with MIUI the other day. I am not an expert on rooting/flashing, but I was able to resolve the issue with a little trial and error.
I flashed MIUI on my 3d. I wasnt too impressed with it really and flashed back to Eternity. A few days passed and I decided to give MIUI another shot and flashed back a second time. Mind you, I always do a factory reset twice, wipe cache twice, and wipe dalvik cache twice before any flash (even if it is an updated version of the ROM I am using), so I made sure to wipe everything before flashing. When I flashed I noticed the little bug on the notification bar area of MIUI and thought it was a clever way of showing debug mode was on.
After messing with it some more I realized that I just plain didnt like it and giving it any more time was not neccessary. I decided to flash back to Eternity. I booted up my phone into bootloader and tried to get into fastboot USB, but it wouldnt activate when I put my USB in. I rebooted into MIUI to make sure I didn't mistakenly turn debugging off. It was still on. I tried to get into fastboot USB a second time. Still an error. I searched XDA came across this thread. Noted that USB debug was on. Followed steps, no progress.
At this point I figured I would just try to flash eternity to see what happened without using fastboot. Froze on bootup. So I flashed MIUI back on. I then remembered hearing about Flash Image GUI on market (made by JoeyKrim who posted above me in this thread). I figured I would give it a shot.
Failed. I had Ziggy kernel from Eternity already on my SD, so I flashed that. It said it was successful. So I powered down. Then I booted into bootloader and went into recovery. I tried to flash Eternity and it froze during boot. I tried to boot up several times and always froze. I went back to MIUI figuring that perhaps the kernel really didnt flash. MIUI made it past boot, to the lockscreen, but I couldnt unlock it. Bascially I was stuck. None of the buttons worked except for power. I tried again to reboot MIUI again. Same problem.
Starting to get a bit desperate, and not being able to get into fastboot USB at all, I figured I could try to nand restore to stock rooted. Of course...still wont work since I couldnt access fastboot USB. My screen froze during boot on this as well.
So here I am stuck with no fastboot USB, a restore that wont flash, Eternity wont flash, and MIUI isnt responding. Honestly I was getting upset and had half a mind to hit the phone with a stun gun and take it to Sprint. (not my idea, but a Sprint person told me once to fry it and take it in and they would say it was a battery short which fried it). Anyhow. I then figured I would try RUU. Problem was that I heard RUU wont work unless you are locked. So I tried to re-lock, and of course couldnt do it since fastboto USB wont work.
I decided to hit the RUU anyhow and it failed saying it was Security fail. I wazs thinking of options, hit it with stun gun hopefully sprint replaced, sink it and insurance replace it, or just head to sprint to see if they could help. But much to my surprise, I tried to boot into bootloader one more time and sure enough fastboot USB was back. My recovery was gone, so I flashed CWM again and was able to put eternity back on. The only problem is that my CWM was deleted and I lost my Nand. Not too big a deal as I can always put a stock rooted rom on and use that as my Nand. Or I can always just RUU to stock, then re-root just to be certain I have a clean nand.
Alright guys. Anyone care to comment on what could have been done differently?

Well there is a lot going on in that post ... Not sure how my application Flash Image GUI failed. I would be more than happy to fix/resolve any bug or issue you've encountered!
Fastboot usb mode should always work. There is no setting in Android which will have any impact on fastboot usb mode (other than not allowing the device to boot into the bootloader). I generally find the best process to be, boot the device into the bootloader, plug in usb and then select fastboot.
Perhaps, once you're in the bootloader, you can also select fastboot and then plug in USB (this works best on my NS4G).
Either way, fastboot usb should always work. If you're using Windows, there could definitely be a drivers issue or Windows being finicky with the drivers and that might result in fastboot USB not working. A simple reboot of the Windows machine should clear any fastboot driver issues.
The best working method to correctly load a ROM is by properly loading the recovery to work with the HTC unlock method. HTC unlock method will only grant the recovery write access to the boot partition when the recovery image is temporarily fastboot boot'd. The command is: fastboot boot c:\android\cwm-recovery.img.
If you boot into the bootloader and select recovery from the menu, it will boot into the recovery, but the HTC unlock method will not grant the recovery write access to the boot partition. You can flash a ROM from here and restore a nand. Both will completely successfully and claim they flashed the kernel w/o any issues but the memory write lock will have prevented the kernel writes from being retained.
Also, regarding my application, Flash Image GUI, it should properly flash any EVO 3D kernel .zip file from normal Android mode as the HTC unlock method allows kernel write access while in normal Android mode.
Why did HTC block kernel write access from recovery mode? They haven't provided an answer .. we can only speculate ...
Hope that helps explain a few more steps to the process and provide greater clarity!
thanks Joey.
Who knows. I have no idea why your app didnt work. I would also like to point out that I am not blaming your app at all. I may have simply done it incorrectly. To be honest by the time I even used your app I was pretty frazzled, so I may have done an error.
Ok. So, yes. Everytime I flash I always use fastboot USB. The command you use is different from mine though. My command is courtesy of Zedomax (HTC Evo Hacks method). CD desktop \rootevo3dnew
fastboot boot cwm-4.0.1.4-shooter.img
So, I always use that when I flash.
I have no idea why fastboot USB dissapeared. At first I figured it was a USB port error. I have heard that many people with OG Evo and 3vo's have USB port issues. So, like a good troubleshooter, I went for the obvious and switched my USB cord. No luck. Then I figured I would plug it into the wall to charge to see if it charged. It did. So I knew it wasnt the cord and it wasnt the port.
Perhaps like you said, the driver was just wonky. I ran a check and it said driver was up to date, so I doubt it.
In the end plugging it into HTC Sync to run an RUU fixed the problem. Even though the RUU didnt go through because I was HTC unlocked, it did fix the USB error and I had USB access again. From there I was able to flash back into recovery and flash back to Eternity.
And on a side note, I also learned the importance of copying my ClockworkMod file off of my SD card and onto my desktop. Since I lost the recovery I no longer had CWM on my SD card and my nand backup was gone. So now I will always keep a copy of the folder on my desktop so that I make sure to have a working NAND.
And to be thorough I decided to re-lock, then re-unlock, re-root today as well. I figured this way I would be working with a 100% clean working ROM again to have a good NAND as a basis as opposed to downloading a stock rooted ROM. Im sure it is probably basically the same thing, but I wanted to do it this way to be sure.
thanks again. Ill let you know if I have any additional issues with your app.

I'll give you a little feedback on the process to sum up your knowledge around the edges. Everything seems correct, there are a few points.
1) CD desktop \rootevo3dnew and fastboot boot cwm-4.0.1.4-shooter.img is the same as fastboot boot desktop\cwm-4.0.1.4-shooter.img . The only difference here is where the recovery image is stored. The key part is being able to supply the fastboot binary with the correct command being "boot" instead of "flash recovery".
2)If you lose your CWM recovery, it does not always mean you have lost your nandroid images. They are stored on the sdcard card under clockworkmod directory, /sdcard/clockworkmod . Even if you switch recoveries, these files will still remain. They should never be erased unless you intentionally erase them.
3) If you really want to start with 100% clean stock ROM, running an RUU is the best way. re-lock and un-lock, all it does is toggle a setting in the bootloader and wipe your /data directory. it won't make any changes to radio, system partition, etc. an RUU will copy over most of all the partitions with stock files, completely resetting the device.
appreciate your support with my app and hope the extra details help round out the edges! good luck!
I had a similar issue when i was switching to AOSP kernels/roms. I rebooted my phones once or twice and it connected fine. Maybe it have something to do with AOSP since MIUI is aosp also.

Thanks for the comments and lesson. I apologize for not responding sooner, but a recent death in family prevented me from really being on here too much lately.
1) I pretty much figured that. Yeah. I only try to flash using this method, that is why when my fastboot USB disapeared I thought I was really in a bad spot. Luckily I got it working again, so all was not lost.
2). Yes. I know it should remain on SD card, which was strange why I couldn't find it. However, thinking back on it, I do remember deleting some files off of my SD card on the same night. I probably just mistakenly deleted my CWM Recovery with my NAND backups. Sometimes when I double click a file to look at it, when I leave the file I see that there is a checkmark on that file. I may have just not noticed the checkmark on the CWM, went to delete another file, and mistakenly deleted CWM with it.
3) An RUU will not change a RADIO? I was under the impression that they did. Sort of like applying an OTA, but manually doing it through SYNC.
well, thanks again though. I learned some new things and appreciate it.

[Q] Unable to install ROM

Not the first post a noob really wants to make...but I've been searching the forums for an answer to my problem, but can't seem to find the info on the issue I'm having. I've seen some that were close & tried what was posted there without any success. I've checked out the Don't Panic -- Please Read First, includes troubleshooting guide Thread By: om4
A few days ago, I tried to install CM10 on my 4G LTE w/S-ON / HBOOT- 1.19. I was able to unlock the bootloader & install TWRP. Everything seemed to go okay until I rebooted my phone after installing CM10. It just hung on the Cyanogenmod splash screen. I tried re-installing it & kept getting the same problem. Today, I tried to install MeanROM ICS v6.5, but it keeps saying install failed. If I let the phone boot up, it'll hang on the MeanRom splash screen. I can still get into fastboot so I know it has to be a software issue. I've been beating my head against the wall for the past few days & just don't know how to fix it. Right now I have a very expensive paperweight. I'm hoping someone can help me fix this & get my phone back up & running.
TIA

flash the boot.img seperately in hboot
Get (Flash Image GUI) off the Play Store.
If yr S-ON then u have to flash the kernel separate. That's why the ROM's keep hanging.

I've been trying this all day, but must be doing something wrong. I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29417266&postcount=1397, but was wondering if you might have more info on option 3.
TIA
if you know how to Fastboot, go for it, but use the Boot.img from the ROM you are flashing.

It's the only option I have now, so I hope I can figure it out. Wish me luck. I know it's probably something stupid that I'm missing & it's driving me crazy. lol
For meanrom make sure you have twrp 2.2.2.0 or later to be able install. The kernel installer will force the phone to reboot upon first run, this is when the kernel installs. For cm10 or other aosp based roms be sure to properly wipe phone. Cache, dalvik, factory reset, and system. Fastboot the kernel using SDK, mini SDK, uniflash, or boot image flasher. Do not use clockwork mod recovery to install roms as it is known to damage internel storage and or misc partitions.
ADB Tools Mini SDK
Thanks for all the info!!! I'm glad I found this place!!! I was able to get my phone working again. I found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1937949 from back in October and found out that I was putting the boot.img in the wrong location. Once I fixed that, I have my phone back. Now I have to get it re-activated because I had to switch back to my Hero because I wasn't sure how long this would take. I hope Sprint will activate it even though is not stock anymore.

Once I fixed that, I have my phone back. Now I have to get it re-activated because I had to switch back to my Hero because I wasn't sure how long this would take. I hope Sprint will activate it even though is not stock anymore.

have your first thanks
lol
the thanks is for using the search function lol
Well now I have another small problem. When I try to use the camera or go into gallery, it says no external storage available. Looks like I'm off to search the forums again for a fix. I'm sure it's something minor.
It looks like it's the internal SD card. Under storage in settings it shows the external card's total space & the 3 GBs used for app data, ect...
When I try and mount the SD card, it says preparing card but doesn't do anything. I think I say something about changing something in TWRP.
Forgot to mention, I can't connect the phone via USB either.
Ha, fixed my SD card/USB issues by following the directions in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812774

[Q] Stuck on Update of CM11, on Htcone .

Good afternoon, !!!
First and foremost , I want to thank you all in advance for ANY and help, time & consideration with my current issue. I will try my best to be clear, and give all relevant info here in my first post. Please bear with me, I am pretty good when it comes to following directions, but i havent been able to find a CLEAR solution to this yet, and worried about further screwing up my phone.
** I use a mac. I currently dont have access to a PC, so i am looking for a mac remedy if possible.
I have an HTCONE m7. Tmobile.
- Bootloader - Unlocked
- S- ON
- Rooted
I kept getting a OTA software update notice for 5.14xxx, i understand the install kept failing due to the bootloader being unlocked and/or root. So after being annoyed for not able to get it, i began googling ways to get the update but to no avail. So i decided to do CM11, & recovery which i installed with no problem via, Cyanogenmod Installer.
After doing so, i realized i lost my Tmobile Wifi Calling (Yes, my own fault for not further checking that scenario before doing cm11), The wifi calling is needed 10000%, due to bad service in my apartment. Prior to finding out that cm11 doesnt contain the tmobile wifi calling , I attempted another system update thru the phone, (I assume it was updating cm11).
This is where the problem began, phone rebooted to Cyanogenmod simple recovery ,
1st few times that i tried = "apply update" > choose from internal storage , i searched different folders for the "update" file, but to no avail. The phone wouldnt start up, or install anything , and will just stay on the simple recovery. I even attempted an adb sideload. But couldnt figure that out correctly either.
After a few failed attempts, I tried wiping the phone, cache, factory reset etc. now the phone still stays on simple recovery, and all folders are gone, except for an o/ folder, that contains a clockworkmod folder, which contains nothing.
So now basically,Do i have to eventually get back to STOCK on this phone, to regain tmobile wifi calling ? IF So i need the easiest, mac friendly route to go .
Again, i thank you ALLLLL in advance, & my apologies if this is in the wrong section. Please note ive done my fair share of googling , and reading up on this. But consistently run into a problem.

What's the radio version that is installed? Should be viewable on the bootloader screen at the top. That will help determine which RUU you need to get back to running again.
http://www.androidruu.com/getdownlo...50.20_10.40.1150.04_release_324846_signed.exe
If it matches the numbers/letters after the Radio_ part there, then that is the file you need. Let me know, and I can download it for you and extract the rom.zip from the exe and upload that. Then you can use fastboot commands to install it on the phone. If your radio version does not match that, please post and we'll see if there are other options.
I don't believe that flashing another rom would work right now since all the storage and such got wiped, but it might be possible to use adb while in recovery to push a rom to the internal storage and install it and then use fastboot to install the boot.img from the rom in bootloader mode since you are S-On.

Question Boot loop (at g animation), factory image does not solve the issue

Hi!
Finally I got stuck in a boot loop on my Pixel 6 running QPR2.
It's looping after the G animation (vibrates a few times at that point when attached to a PC).
Reflashing the latest QPR factory image (without -w) by using SDK 33.0.3 does not solve the issue.
The ROM was running fine before, but it rebooted due to a faulty custom kernel version and now I'm stuck.
My theory is, that the launcher (nova) can't load and therefore it reboots.
Anything I could do using fastboot?
Never flash a custom kernel on a stock ROM, If not suggested by the dev.
I understand that you flash without wipe?
Done that for years without any issue.
The last version of the custom kernel had an issue and caused reboots.
Not sure if this is the ulprit, but normally that should be solved by flashing factory image without -w.
So the question is: Is there any other option than doing a factory reset?

If the kernel broke your actually ROM, nope. You could backup the file stored locally via adb in the recovery, but not anything more.
Wipe all is the best, better than have to handle with an hard brick.

If I were you I'd maybe get some logs and go through them and see if you can find anything that way. Maybe add logs to your op here.
There aren't many ways to backup things nowadays for pixel 6 but what I have used to backup apps + app data that works well when restoring is Neo app from Fdroid store. As far as backing up goes, at this time I've used nothing that is/has been as solid as Neo. I miss the days of just being able to boot one of a few various custom recoveries, making a nandroid backup to a USB thumb drive with my OTG cable and restore it whenever it was needed but things change. Sounds like maybe something was left behind from your kernel install. If you really dislike formatting I'd stay away from whatever you installed here to get in this loop but definitely backup using Neo once you get going again and put your backups on thumb drive or you PC or somewhere other than your device so you can restore them when you need to. I don't flash nowhere near as much as I used to but I used to flash my device(s) many times a day , everyday for many years but I remember years ago on another device I looped and wiped my cache and system and reflashed rom and ended up booting up. But that was another device years ago. Maybe try adb sideloading instead of factory image flash without wiping data. Try that and after it's done installing reboot to others slot and sideload it again... These things probably won't work but you never know until you try. Did you have magisk installed before and not now? Maybe flash stock kernel patched with magisk to both slots if so. Hate to say it but you will probably end up having to format data but idk because I don't know exactly how you installed the kernel "in detail" or exactly what kernel it is or if anything else was changed from before you looped ... No logs...
I've been using Android since the beginning (G1) and I've been tinkering with my devices since back in the Nexus S days on a regular basis and I've found that the best way for to get the help I need is to try like hell to figure whatever it is out myself by searching for the problem I'm having, I mean like really searching, sometimes for hours , sometimes maybe searching for things related to the problem I'm having that show up in my searches, sometimes the answer can be in another devices forum, piecing together bits of info from various places to try and solve whatever it is... etc ... etc... But the best way to get help is do research on it, take some notes, try various things to fix it, then if I still can't figure it out make a post about it here and in op attach every log I can possibly gather from said device, include all the things I tried to fix it with myself "in detail..." My exact installation process, you know like: reboot bootloader, was on slot A, executed ./flash-all.sh for factory image xxxxx, rebooted system ... The more details you provide the more accurate people will be when answering and the more people you will get to reply.. I'm not trying to sound like some asshole or anything at all. Im just speaking what works best here to get answers. Sometimes you just don't get any answers even if you post 18 paragraphs with a chart and a line graph, things you tried, what all you tried it with and links to it all. But anyone here who does this will most definitely stand a much better chance at getting some replies on whatever it is. I sometimes read over on Reddit and Tele groups , sometimes answers can be found that way. Sometimes people just give you the silent treatment.. Even if you do your homework. That's just a thing with anything related to development that happens. I always used to think when I would get no replies that the other guys and gals who know the answer are thinking to themselves, "oh look at this idiot here!" "He clearly didn't graduate from Harvard top of his class with a PhD like we did. " " Such an imbecile!!! " But what could have been going on and more than likely was/is is life , kids, bills, sleep, relationships, covid19, and tons of other things..
Some of this development stuff is a real beech to get and everyone works hard to get it and many aren't too fond of just giving random people answers that took them many sleepless nights to get. But if and when a dev sees someone with a detailed post , things tried.... etc ... etc .. Theyre much more likely to throw some knowledge your way. That's been my experience anyway.
@flash713
Wow, thx for thw write up, appreciate!
I was on latest QPR2.1 with Radioctive Kernel, Magisk installed.
Since the device got stuck in the boot animation, I tried a lot and flashed different factory images using the flash-all method. w/o success.
Also tried the Flash tool in the google website, also w/o success.
When the device boots while it's connected to the PC, it beeps/vibrates 3 times and the reboots.
My guess is that it has problems to load the launcher, Nova was set as standart.
I'm using android since years, tinkering a lot, but I'm not a pro in doing so.
Meanwhile i set up my new Pixel 7 and restored it via Google backup and a few apps by using a SWIFT backup.
Fotos were restored by Google, but all whatsapp pictures are messed up ow, cause the date of restore.
How do I gather proper logs?
Did a last attempt and sideloaded the OTA to both slots...same outcome...
Doesn't magisk have a remove all modules.zip? I mean oriole doesn't have TWRP available yet.
I presume that when it's bootlooping you don't have any ADB?
You did have ADB enabled, right?
Depending on system and setup you may have ADB started by init or started by Android.
Your problem could be as simple as a bad Launcher.
I don't know if the P6 has a UART console. Does it?
Hi Renate,
thx for your reply.
Yes, that is what i thought. The Pixel boots up into the G-animation and then loops 3 times (beeping/vibrating if connected to PC) and than reboots in total.
I think I had something like that in the past when I accidently deleted the launcher apk (don't ask )
Anyway, Nova launcher was set as standart, so the only idea could be to set the genui Pixel launcher as default, but I don't know how to do that in fastboot or adb mode.

I'm still not clear if you have ADB ever available.
If you do you could:
Code:
adb uninstall com.nova.whatever.launcher
If the /data/data that Nova is using is corrupt or missing it could cause failure.
Android will switch to whatever else belongs to android.intent.category.HOME automatically.
If there is nothing there you can install another launcher.
Have adb (after booting into recovery mode), will report back asap
I habe adbd device connected via recovery/rescue mode, but that's not working.
In bootloader, I can't use adb, no device connected.
Hw can I use adb while the device is not booted up?
Can you mount data in recovery (and it's unecrypted)?
Feeling a bit dumb, but I can only boot into fastboot or into the boot loop, don't know how to mount data in recovery mode (the one with the andoird robot)
When you're in the boot loop you don't get adb even for a few seconds?
This are the last lines of the recovery.log

photos.app.goo.gl
Checked that by opening a cmd and using "adb devices", but nothing showed up
When you're viewing that log, don't you have ADB working then? It says that it is.
I had this weird issue on Raven, first try using android flash tool through a chrome based browser. If that still loops then wipe, and flash an older image. For some reason I had to flash an image from the previous month and that would boot.
