If you can get into FASTBOOT and connect to the phone via ADB, you should be able to reflash your recovery image via ADB.

Dave

I thought you could flash the recovery image without FASTBOOT as long as you've got root... no?

My recovery image seems to be messed up since I can't boot into it. My phone will boot but everytime it does ADW crashes over and over not allowing me to do anything. What can I do to go about getting the recovery fixed again and reflashing to try to smooth everything out?
*Edit*.I think I may have thought of a work around. I emailed my self the launcherpro.apk and installed it through gmail. Now I can access my phone. Now I just need to flash a working recovery..
I do appreciate your help though Riley.
You can try downloading ADW Launcher, putting it on your SD card and boot from recovery, then flash the launcher. It is a far shot, but if launcher is the only problem, maybe reflashing it will do the trick.
** EDIT ** My apologies. I misunderstood. I thought you were referring to a corrupted recovery image that you had made of your ROM!
You say you can't boot into recovery/ what's your phone do or say when trying to boo4 in recovery? You may have to push new recovery image via fastboot.

If you have USB debugging turned on you can flash Amon_RA via an adb shell using the flash_image tool - exactly the way the original Eris rooting process worked. With your phone looping, it will run very slowly, but will still succeed.
If you have the S-OFF bootloader installed, you can flash the recovery with fastboot.
I'll have an XDA admin move this thread to the Q&A forum.
Ok guys..I got launcher pro installed so I can actually access my phone now. I attempted to Flash a recovery with Rom Manager and it says it succeeds but it will never boot into it. I do have the bootloader with the "off". Is there a market app or something that can easily flash the recovery? I only ask because I am not at my PC with the android sdk stuff.

If you can't get to a PC to use adb, you could use a root shell in a terminal emulator to flash recovery using flash_image. That's kind of painful/tedious though - almost enough so to make it worth your while to just wait until you get back to your PC.
It is technically feasible to put together a flashable ROM to re-flash the recovery, but I'm not aware of anyone having done so for the Eris.
Oh ok..well I have RA Eris 1.6.2 recovery on my sd card. So I can just flash it via the termninal emulator, right?
** I tried to install via terminal and it says "header is the same, not flashing recovery". Do you think I could install the stock Eris recovery and reflash Amon's?
UPDATE!!: I got a recovery to flash..YAY..thanks guys

are you using "flash_image"? If so, where is it from? To my knowledge (the statically linked version from Amon_RA - /sbin/flash_image) is a pretty simplistic program - it performs no checks, and will let you flash total garbage to any named partition on your phone. (Which is why you should verify the md5 of the recovery image before you flash it, BTW; you can use the AFV app for that)
Is there a newer CWM (currently using 4) for those of us stuck with HBOOT 1.5?
And if so, where can I find it? I've searched but every recovery I try won't work with this crappy HTC Method.

Have you tried TWRP? I'm htc unlocked 1.5 and it works fine for me. Try that or have a look at this.

In theory, the only issue should be HTC not unlocking the boot partition while booted in the standard recovery mode.
I'm s-off with revolutionary, but curious, what about the custom recovery's don't work for you? What error messages do the custom recovery's provide?

I can't install the latest CWM Recovery. That is the main issue. I'm stuck with an outdated version. If I try to load it via Rom Manager, after trying to boot into recovery, i get the splash screen, a black screen, then the phone reboots. I've tried to pull it from the CWM website and flash it via fastboot and the same thing happens. Is there something that has to be modified for recovery to work when unlocked via the HTC method?
Is there a version of the latest CWM 5.0.2.0 that will work with the HTC unlock method on hboot 1.5? Anyone? Anyone?
I am on hboot 1.5 and have been able to flash different recoveries fine. So far I have used TWRP 1 & 2. You should be able to flash via bootloader which includes adb commands sent from cmd on your PC.
You need:
Android SDK (Install from Android site)
HTC ADB Drivers (should install automatic..if not google and find and install)
Put your desired .img (recovery) into the folder where ADB.EXE exists (android-sdk sub-directory)
Reboot into bootloader---->fastboot
RUN THIS COMMAND FROM YOUR PC WITH THE PHONE ATTACHED VIA USB CABLE cd c:/******* fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
where ******* is the path to ADB.EXE (same folder as .img file and ADB.EXE)
for example cd c:/android fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Problem solved. Thanks to everyone that responded. I really do appreciate it!!!!
What exactly did you flash? The Mainver error only relates to the kernel IIRC.
The only thing I tried to flash was the custom recovery after I accidentally ran the ota update with the custom recovery still on my phone. When I should've flashed back to the stock recovery before accepting the update. And now I can't get into custom recovery. When I try to reflash armon ra it won't take. I've lost root access even though I have superuser still on my phone.

how are you trying to reflash Amon Ra ? , what recovery do you boot into ? As long as your still unlocked you should be able to flash Amon Ra through Hboot it has nothing to do with root access at that point. Even odder that the OTA flashed through the custom recovery, thought it would error out and not take if it wasn't the stock recovery. Unless you ran Con's Stock rooted, but then you wouldn't have an issue with superuser or root access.
Should be able to flash stock recovery through fastboot relock and RUU then if you really are stuck. Otherwise , no reason you shouldn't be able to reflash Amon Ra and reroot through recovery.
Download THIS
I take it the phone can't boot up at all? Have your tried fastboot flashing the stock kernel?

I'm trying to flash it in hboot as ph98img. And when I go to recovery it seems to go to the stock recovery with the little phone and a green circle but shortly after it turns into the red triangle and phone symbol.
Try flashing the recovery in fastboot. Download the latest version of AmonRa here and extract the recovery-ra-vigor-3.13-gnm.img. Take that file and place it in the same file directory you place the tools to unlock your bootloader (needs to be in the same directory as fastboot.exe).
Put your phone into bootloader and connect to PC and flash the recovery-ra-vigor-3.13-gnm.img in fastboot using the command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-ra-vigor-3.13-gnm.img

It will boot and everything runs fine, I just can't get into custom recovery or install custom recovery. And my apps that need superuser permissions won't be allowed even though I still have superuser installed on the phone.

Nope. It just won't take. I can try it again and tell you exactly what it says as an error if that will help.

Hi I've been doin a lot of reading of this forum. My main question is can I install a no sense hc Rom from just performing an HTC unlock or do I need to downgrade to gb anyway in which case I may aswel go s off while I'm at it.
I'm running hc official ota
There is no true no sense rom available as of yet
ok but if i just used the htc unlock could i then easily flash the new virtuous rom which has just started been developed?
Problem is i cant find the correct ruu to downgrade my device, its a uk 16gb wifi . I thought id found it but the site wont let me download.
You should be able to flash clockwork, then a custom ROM through fastboot without downgrade and root.
Haven't done it myself, but that is my understanding of how the unlocked bootloader works versus real S-Off.
I managed to do this hardware unlock and now have an unlocked bootloader. Tried. To flash cwm and corrupted the recovery. How do you install CWM through fastboot?

You have get CWM recovery, go into fastboot, connect USB, and then install via command prompt.
If you are unaware of how to do this try installing recovery via Rom Manager. Might be your easier solution.
Thanks for the reply, I actually downloaded cwm from a post in the dev section. Flashed it through command line with fastboot and now when I boot from recovery the device is stuck on a white HTC screen.
Also tried to use Rom manager but the device has to be rooted first. Can you root it through fastboot without cwm? Can I get a download link for a working cwm?

Maybe the downloaded file corrupted?
Maybe you can use this link as reference:

I installed a custom ROM (carbondev) but when my phone loads it just shows a carbondev load screen.
I have no back up in clockworkMod to revert back to the stock ROM...
Iv managed to use adb push to send ROM's to my phone.. i know its worked because in cmd it says (so many bytes in so many seconds)...
I cant manage to locate any ROM's in clockwork mod to install one through recovery.
Did you installed the boot.img for the Rom? If not try it via Fastboot.

This is a good Tutorial for installing Boot.img via Fastboot. We can't flash boot.img with the .zip in the Rom because S-ON won't allow it (If I read correclty).
If you need more help you can write me a PM
Thanks i'll try this after download the ROM again and putting it back in the folder.. think iv deleted the boot.img for it xD
done the.... fastboot boot boot.img
but the phone is just getting stuck in the HTC screen
Re: [Q] Help cynogenmod stock in boot circle.
Don't boot the image, you need to flash it. "Fastboot flash boot boot.img".
