usc rom voip not possible - Touch Pro CDMA

Hello All,
HTC Touch Pro
---------------------------
U S Cellular
ROM - 1.08.573.1
Radio - 1.07.06F
Very new to smartphoning. Have spent the last few days trying to get VOIP enabled on this HTC Touch Pro phone. At this point I am guessing some how U S Cellular has disabled the ability to do 'Internet Calling' with the stock ROM. I have downloaded every voip related .cab ,reading through each tutorial and just never end up with the 'Internet Calling' tab showing under the >settings> Phone category.
I have searched here but simply can not find a definative answer for this.
Could someone that possibly has an usc Touch pro give me a link or a walk through on how to enable voip on this phone. I would guess I am going to have to drop a new ROM on to it,at this point?
BTW: I have installed both fring and agephone( with no luck there),but would like to get back to the native WinMo 6.1 voip setup if possible.
Thanks in advance
Barry

Smartphoning? First time I have ever heard that one... ahhh kids these days
All joking aside, you may want to try to get rid of your stock rom. There are a few threads in this site about VOiP and how some users have managed to get it working. Having said that, more than likely you will have to get rid of your current stock rom.

egzthunder,
Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping someone might post up what ROM they used,,IF in fact voip is actually possible on the uscc cdma phone? I see so many voip *almost* works posts ,but have never really read A post were someone is actually using voip on TP,on a daily basis?,,,.

Couple questions for Telus P4000?

So everything I'm seeing on enabling GPS on the Titan includes these massive ROM updates that change all sorts of things I don't really feel like changing... I'd like to just enable the GPS. Is there a simple way to do this?
I also have the PPCGeekSprintMMS installed and it seems to all be functional, except of course, it won't actually send/receive. I've found only one post between here and PPCGeeks that even hints at Telus server settings, and that poster was asking if that was the appropriate entry... no response either way. Anyone have any suggests, anyone got MMS working with Telus?

7th post...
GPS is only enabled with the rom/radio update.
I have the P4000 as well !
You must upgrade the radio and use one of the custom roms for the GPS to work correctly. Make sure the phone is unlocked with the new unlocker.
DCD's custom telus rom is very nice ! no filler no killer !
in regards to the MMS... not sure about that one to be honest.

Thanks... was looking at DCD's ROM but it appears to remove a few things that I like, such as the Live stuff, and some that I need, like the Acrobat reader.
Edit: Oops, I see he's got links to re-add some of those... unfortunately they're all on that @$*^#$ RapidShare site and I've reached my download limit... unless I want to pay for the privilege. Grrrrr...
All these threads reference this unlocker and so forth - are there some step-by-step n00b instructions on the site on installing these ROMs? Are these steps performed via ActiveSync, put the files on the phone and run them, or do they need to be run from a card? Stuff like that... I'm not technically inept, but this Windows Mobile stuff is completely new to me, so I'm just trying to catch up

That's the one I'm talking about - tried those settings, they don't work. jobine's post is asking if those are the correct settings but nobody ever replies, that I could see.

please explain touch pro & Fuze

Hi,
I'm in Aus and has touch pro (Three Australia) upgraded to Cooked ROM (DNS v15 or something like that) a couple months back and since i haven't visited this site... and now i'm thinking of upgrading (just checking if it's worth doing it) and all i see is FUZE FuZE fUzE everywhere....
I have been researching and it seem they're the same but ATT in USA called it Fuze... am i correct? what is the different? If i upgrade the ROM to fuze will my network still working oketc? what is the benefit and disadvantage of upgrading?
Much appreciated guys!
The Fuze doesn't have the front camera and it works with the US 3G bands.
"The invention of the flame-thrower suggest that someone thought, "you know, I'd really like to set that stuff on fire over there, but I just can't be bothered to walk.""
Hahahahaha So true...

This has been covered many times before and a simple search would have answered your question. The fuze is the alias given by AT&T for the 3G (GSM) touch pro. You CAN flash a fuze rom on a TP as long as it is GSM not CDMA and all you will need is a keyboard fix to revert the keyboard to the TP keyboard. The benefits of upgrading differ from rom to rom. I personally use the PROven ROM which is unprotected so you can recook the rom but have used the NATF ROM and they both work great. The Da_G ROM is great if you are looking for a clean rom.

Just as a caution I suggest you read the rom specs prior to loading. Some of the US "Fuze" Roms do not do Video calling. Not really a big thing in the USA. So strongly suggest you do some research and ensure what you download has the functionality that you require. Da_G's Roms seem to have video dialing if you require it and I'm sure some of the others do too. If you like what you get a donation to the chef always goes a long way.
Hi,
I did a 15 minutes searched based on google and xda forum and only 'some' of the post that make sense. anyhow thank you for explaining. I hardly ever use the video call. Normal phone call and VOIP and GPS is probably the most thing i use in the phone
thanks again everyone for the replied, have a great x'mas and new year

Best Custom ROM for (att) HTC Fuse for GPS & WiFi

I want to set up my new (att) HTC Fuse to run satellite based GPS with internal maps and WiFi Internet connections. I do not want to pay for the att GPS or data plans. I want to use the internet through WiFi at home or at hotspots without using att by mistake and receiving data charges accordingly. In addition, what is the best GPS software: Tom Tom, Garmin or some other? It is fine with me to load all the maps on the SD card and run independent of Google Maps. A large 'Points of Interest' database is also desirable.
First of all, your questions have been answered numerous times and this is not the thread for these questions. In fact your subject does not match with the contents. However, below are my suggestions:
It's better to call ATT customer service to cancel your data plan so that you dont accidentally use the data plan. There are also cabs that
can be used to disable the data plan.
TomTom or Garmin . it's upto you. However, beware of the fact that there is very noticable lag in fuze-gps.
I myself do not use data plan and have been using FuzeGPS as far as I can.
Regarding the custom ROM - you can use any of the custom ROM as each has been catered to serve different taste.
I am in the exact same situation as you... the first thing I have to say to you is READ... Read & Do NOT post (and especially do not start a new thread for something like this)!
That being said, the NRG ROM Series by NRGZ28 (MAKE SURE YOU HARDSPL!) is what I personally use on my fuze, and Tom Tom 7 would be my recommended Nav software. That being said, with both of us being in the US, it might be a bit hard to get your hands on. Even more so with the proper maps. If you need help getting your hands on Tom Tom, let me know.... ALSO-- FIND, Download, & Install Modaco's NoData.... the stock ATT Rom WILL CONNECT to the internet even if you don't want it to. ATT's explanation is that "it is a primary data, secondary voice device." Don't end up like me with $50 in data charges at the end of the month just because of the stock ROM. You can also remove the password under connections and manually key it in when you are sending / recieving a MMS (the password is cingular).
What does the poll have to do with your questions?
For the data usage, I agree about downloading the NoData cab, it works great.
For the ROM, there's lots out there and all of them will work. Its best to look at what's included and figure out what has the stuff you'll use.
WiFi works fine in all of the ROMs.
GPS is where it could get a little tricky. Since you don't want to use data, then you'll have to disable aGPS (since March 1st, most ROMs have it enabled I think because of the AT&T fix). This will cause your cold fix time to take longer.
As far as GPS software, I like Garmin the best. Its just like a Nuvi unit and the maps are the most up-to-date for my area, especially compared to TomTom.

Thanks for your quick reply.
Obviously I am new to this forum (I registered last month), but I have spent MANY hours searching and reading many threads on this very interesting site. My questions have not yet been answered well enough to make a decision. I have read good things and bad things about almost every issue. Some guys say the stock ROM is horrible, some say it is great and every thing works wonderful after simply eliminating the att bloatware. Some say stay away from cooked ROMs and some say it is the only way to go. Obviously your research has answered these simple questions for you which others also may find helpful. If you can, please post some of the thread links that answer these questions in a more definitive fashion than my research has found. By the time I read four or five pages of most of the threads I found in my search there were so many contradictions and varied results that it became a little confusing, hence I was hoping for some simple answers that I hoped would be of interest to me and others with similar questions. I assumed there was more than Garmin and Tom Tom out there, but if not, I agree they are both probably good choices.
Thanks again for your comment – David.

Dude,
If you have an ATT Fuze, Why are you polling about the iphone, win-mo, and palm OS's? I'd Semi-understand the poll if you were undecided about which phone to go buy but you just picked up an ATT Fuze. The Fuze runs on WinMo and you're on a Forum that mostly works with phones that run Windows Mobile yet you're going to poll and ask about which smartphone OS is better?
If this poll has anything to do with a purchase of a phone, go to something like CNET.com or another electronic review site to find your answers.
I'm not trying to flame you but i'm struggling to understand how your poll and HOW that has anything to do with your question that you're posting?
Anyways, its a preference. I know it gets confusing to read all the pages about all the ROM's that are posted but i'm going to tell you, its all about what YOU want and it has nothing to do with anyone elses opinions. If i were you, i'd go flash every ROM and see which one works out for me. There are compromises but you really need to go through it yourself and see which one works out best for you. There is NO PERFECT ROM for this phone as the phone itself isn't perfect. As for your navigation needs, go find "iGo" for windows mobile. I'm not sure why people get business oriented phones if they don't want to spend money on a data package because the data capabilities and business oriented software is what makes these phones different than a regular cell phone. I still don't see a point in the poll but good luck.

I accidently hit the 'Poll' button and couldn't back out of it. I should have started over with a new post, but I made up the poll to fill the blanks instead. My vote is for WinMo. Thanks for asking - David.

Yahoo messenger?

Hi guys, first off I want to thank all of you who put out this wealth of knowledge about these devices, I honestly know I would be lost without this site!! I aplogize if this is in the wrong spot but I have a good friend who just bought a TP though US Cellular and he wants to put Yahoo messenger on it, I was confused when he asked me because my TP came with it installed alredy but I'm on Sprint. He told me Sprint is the only one who offers the app and I was wanting to know if there was any way around this? Thanks in advance guys!
i would suggest using Nimbuzz.. its free & works pretty good. it supports a nice range of instant messenging protocols.

Fring is another one

well at last its good to know im not the only one! IT just pretty much sucks knowing that there is no one to help you out!
Im still under 15 days Return Policy so its actually in mind sending the phone back and maybe waiting for the US Version! But 2 months without a phone is nuts....
May not be many because its not released in the US yet - You MIGHT get some luck by asking on the Sapphire Forum. The board and hardware of the Hero is VERY similar to the Higher Ram Sapphire (Magic) usually referred to as 32A device or Rogers Magic.
They are officially released on TMO US so a US poster might be able to share their exact APN settings with you to try. Just a thought...might be worth a try

@ Dayzee.
Well as stated previously the apn settings are the correct ones so thats not the Issue. I also comfirmed this with T-mobile!
Im very Familiar with android as i had the g1 since it came out then i got myself a magic 32A. and now i have a Hero. So i have a good understanding of all this.
I will however try the Sapphire forums as the Hero forums are very small due to the fact that the phone just came out and considering that most users on here are rather new to android and will not be of much help to me.!
Thanks Anyway.
Just trying to help. Not sure it needed a "lol at dayzee" but good luck with it.
yeah, i just read my post and didn't sound too good. Ive gone ahead and edited the "lol'..........
I don't know if the MMS.apk might have anything to do with it so i will go ahead and port the MMS.apk from Cyanogens build and try that!
Forget it I'm an idiot and didn't read.
