[Q] Does amaze not show "sync" with Google through service and/or Wi-Fi bars?
So I don't consider myself a true noob but I can't figure this out and nobody at t mobile could answer this...
On my N1 (both when rooted and stock) the service bars and wi-fi indicator in the status bar would change colors based on whether or not the phone was able to sync with Google.
Does the Amaze not do this?
I really don't care much if not but it's just strange to see my bars and wi-fi in white and not green (or some other color once this bad boy is running a custom rom)

It doesn't show as it has custom firmware from HTC.
It will show when you install vanilla gingerbread or custom roms.

Great to know man...thank you! I'm relieved that it's not defective or anything.

I noticed that too.
I don't really understand why HTC removed it. It doesn't improve performance and it actually looks better. But for some reason, they consciously decided to go in and remove it.
One of life's great mysteries...

A couple of days ago, I realized that my 3G wasn't working. What's odd is that the 3G symbol is still there next to my bars, and I can see the up and down arrows turning off and on like it's working. I've tried updating my radio, and even reputed a tried flashing my ROM again, to no avail. Any suggestions?

How???Where cna i find ?...but i dont have root,recovery.
It's an ICS thing. The new update messed with our signal. The only way to fix it is to S-Off and go back to Gingerbread.

THere is no other way???(((
Sorry for the late reply, you can search for modems I can provide a link if necessary but a Google search should be fine and you will need to root and have cwm installed to do this or use a flash tool or Odin if you have a galaxy,

I use to get full five bars at home using GB, after updated to ICS (SuperSayain rom) I pretty much only getting 3 bars. What I did was in the mobile network setting, changed mode from auto to WCDMA only and so far i've been getting pretty much 5 bar most of the time with occasionally dropped down to 4. hope this works for you too.
I am also having this strange issue. So is reverting to GB the only way or can you just flash the gb radio? Anybody know anymore about this??
Same issue here. At home used to get full 5 bars, now 3 sometimes 4, which is fine as I am usually on WiFi anyway. Problem is I had great signal all throughout my daily commute to work to where there is sections of my drive that I have no signal. Before in that area it would revert to EDGE from 4G and mine is set to auto.
Just believe like everyone else mentioned that it is the ICS radio. Hopefully an update will fix it

If it's just a radio can we just flash an older one??

No. And to the people talking about modems and odin and.. yea, no. We don't have modems to flash, and odin is just for samsung devices. Until now we couldn't flash a radio if we WANTED to.
You know the iPhone's fix when people were talking about how bad the signal was for the iPhone4? They had been boosting the REPORTED signal strength. So did HTC, so did Samsung, so did.. all of them. You'd drop a call when it showed you had GOOD signal.
Not a single person has posted about having ACTUAL worse issues. The OP said he can make calls and talks about how many bars.
Apple's opinion:
We have discovered the cause of this dramatic drop in bars, and it is both simple and surprising.
Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong. Our formula, in many instances, mistakenly displays 2 more bars than it should for a given signal strength. For example, we sometimes display 4 bars when we should be displaying as few as 2 bars.

People here are having the OPPOSITE problem, it LOOKS like you should have an issue, and you don't.. but people keep posting about it even tho there hasn't been any issues.
This is the ONLY person who had actual signal issues(Weird Interference/Reception Call Issues on my Amaze) I have seen since ICS dropped, and it turned out to be a hair on the contact for the antennae. Read his thread, he methodically checked quality and could answer basic questions - and then he fixed the actual problem.
Edit: I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if someone is ACTUALLY having problems, they actually can't make calls, drop calls where they didn't before, etc.. then there is probably a problem that can be fixed. But unless you are having those issues it is likely that the signal strength you're seeing is more accurate(EXACTLY like the apple quote I put above), they are just doing a better job of SHOWING the actual signal. Which is good, no unexpected dropped calls or BS.

Don't know if that's the case because when I so connect its fast. Just as fast as the first day of the month. I do have the 5gb plan and have never hit it. Been close but never hit it. I'm going to call just in case. You do have a good point.
Do a speedtest. If its 60 kb/s and steady, or something similar, that's your issue

I know this has been asked plenty of times, but I have not seen a clear answer. Which is better - WiFi or a solid 3G connection? (I have heard LTE kills the battery when used extensively, and where I use most of my data, I only get 3G.) Would staying connected to WiFi if browsing the web for awhile be better? Is it best to leave WiFi off when not browsing, even if you have a solid connection? Would jumping from access point to access point when moving around the office drain the battery much?
Opinions and/or expertise would be greatly appreciated!

It really depends what type of data plan you have, if you have a unlimited one use 3g all the way

Unless you have **** internet provider wifi will always be faster surfing the web, etc. I only use 4g when I'm not able to connect to Wi-Fi

Oh crap sorry guys, forgot to mention I'm looking for which would maximize battery life lol....my apologies. I've read that the WiFi radio in general will eat more battery when surfing than the 3G radio. Is that true to some extent? I also have 2GB/mo, which hasn't been a problem just yet (never even reached a gig ever since I started using a smartphone a couple of years ago).

3g radio will eat more battery than WiFi that's why in everything related to battery saving they say to use WiFi.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
I think using wifi whenever possible when actually using data makes sense, regarding battery life. The wifi radio only needs to broadcast the signal 30-50 feet, the 3g radio nerds to communicate with a tower.5-2 or more miles away, thus taking much more power than the wifi radio. When the phone is in standby, or the radio is inactive, there might be other considerations, but for actual use, wifi should be better for the battery. Leaving wifi on when not near a hotspot would be detrimental to battery life, however

Thanks for the input guys. I have my phone set up to stay connected to WiFi only when awake on battery, so I should be saving some battery.

Thing about that is, you'll have to wait until the radio starts, connects, and establishes an IP address.
I realize this has been discussed somewhere, but I cant use any data but LTE and wifi while on a phone call...need help there...I do not understand the tech talk i read here, I don't know all the tech terms, I need simple plain ordinary old man language that doesnt include hightech youngspeak...dumb it down for me please...thanks anybody who wishes to help.
There is no way to use 3g while on a call ....no phones since s3 have had this .... The new tri band you can't even use lte or wifi while on a call ....

Radiation levels are to high if this feature is on while calling with phone directly near your head. I'm assuming that's why it is this way.
